As usual, the phone is ugly, and considering the fact it's here to battle the iPhone 6, that's understandable.
The interesting part is that it has LTE Advanced baked in, but the SoC is Exynos. Could it be finally the 5433?
Share your outrage/admiration here (unless I just did something stupid and broke forum rules and the mods intend to blast the thread into oblivion ).
It's like a "iSamsung".. I really don't like when they get to battle the phone of another brand and they get used to "copy" the design for it's own device. It has more the look of an iPhone than a Samsung.. I'm not sure if I like it..
The metal construction might emulate iPhones, but the thin, flimsy plastic back cover is all Samsung. At least the (dinky) battery is replaceable though.
Obviously this phone is meant to compete with the iPhone 6. I have no idea if it'll actually sway iPhone owners into the Android world. But it's clearly a vanity device, and should succeed in at least some small way with people who like Android but wish their phone could look more like an iPhone. Somehow I doubt the Alpha will get much love in the way of development and modding. High price, moderate specs, small battery..."power" users such as us won't bother much with this phone.
I think this phone is designed as a midranged one and for people who like the compact iPhone style. Sadly the form factor would be perfect for one handed use but the screen is really underwhelming and not allowing mdcards is a huge mistake. I like the octacore cup bit Samsung is really starting to behave like Apple and that's not a good thing. Removing features and then releasing overpriced underwhelming products
The alpha with full HD, mdcards support and without Knox would have been awesome, disappointed. Instead of targeting iPhone users they should have targeted the Android crowd looking for high powered compact phones!
If benchmarks are to be believed, the thing smashed the Note 3... the octa-core version Note 3. If the Alpha has the Exynos 5433 and they finally went "true" octa-core, it might be worth a look.
But, having a big ol' ugly Nope 3, I'm more hyped for the ugly Note 4, which is bound to be a monster we might like.
I wonder if it's gonna have any IP certification. Probably not though as I didn't see any gaskets.

I was really tempted for this device unless i found out the battery was jz 1800mah..
Only if had 2500 or 3000mah i would have readily exchanged my nexus 5 which also has a pathetic battery life
The thing looks like an updated S2, actually. I have one at work which is with a Chinese copy battery and CM11 on it. 2 days on standby so far, battery is at 80%-ish.
The Nexus carries a 5 inch full HD screen and has no battery saving modes at all.
I won't be surprised if the Alpha thing manages to last longer.

I shouldn't be too bad... should good battery life... considering it's like 25% more efficient than a 801-805 snapdragon chip (20nm) Should be interesting to see it's performance though. the chips built for 1440p so with that being said the chip is made to be energy efficient at 1440p. 720p is going to have good battery life considering the chip is pushing exactly 4x times less pixels than it was made to.
Doesn't look as good as the S5? No SD card slot, no USB 3, still only 2Gb of Ram? No real reason to upgrade IMO
the things why i didnt buy samsung is... because its sparepart is quite expensive
and (the center shop) quite far from my house

It's frustrating because as I keep complaining if it was 3 mm thicker it could have the Isocell Camera from Note 4, a 2500 Mah Battery,
and an SD Card, and a more powerful speaker or TWO - in this pocket sized phone !
So I am hoping and lobbying Samsung for Alpha Pro with above features
and some Note 4 Specs - but NOT more Pixels in Screen because that will slow the phone down.
Alpha Pro would be priced like Note 4 people will cry about price - but I would pay $700-750. for Pro version.
Would you ?
Hello,
the firmwares of the Alpha are out.
Now I wanted to take a look into the firmware, but somehow I can't unpack it. Tried the method with sgs2toext4 and ext4_unpacker but always failed. The system.img seems to be ok, it's 1.908.047 KB big.
Someone knows a way to unpack this KitKat Firmware of the Alpha?

Can you post a link? I'm more interested in the Kernel sources ...
@modpunk
Sure. Here you go.
wth does . this. always. happen. I wanted a smaller phone , I was waiting. I kinda of enjoyed the blackberry z10 I had at work but had to give it up. I was hoping the z10 got a refresh, at anyrate I ordered one thursday. I go to the at&t store to pick out a phone for my wife..and I see the alpha..!!!!!!!! damn it.
It seems like news surrounding this device is really, really slow. What's going on?
I've been a long-time Note user and have recently become disenchanted with the Note line. Although I am an S-Pen addict, I've always been more attracted to phones that have something really unique about them ... hence, my interest in the Phab 2 Pro. I had the LG Optimus 3D and loved the 3D features and screen, and the raw power of the phone, but the trend died out and LG stopped updating it.
Anyway, I'm not just interested in the Phab 2 Pro, I'm totally obsessed with it. Are there any other people out there who are as excited about this phone as I am?
I'm not a developer, so I'm going at this phone from a pure consumer vantage point. But I want to drum up some excitement or something ...
So what is your level of interest? Curious? Planning on developing for it? Planning on waiting in line on Day One?
I plan to be FIRST in line on Day One.
You aren't the only one. I check Google everyday...like everyday twice a day..I can't wait I've already set the money aside for it lol I want it so bad I wanted to pre-order it on August 1 just so as soon as bestbuy opens I can just walk in and grab it. Like best buy opens at 10 I'm trying to have it and be in my car by 10:10 lol

I'm going to get one Launch day! I am amazed, very little news on this device! I too have been trawling for updates, and not much to be found!
Definitely can't wait been interested in this phone since I heard the announcement, will be putting down my nexus 6 but will still be used for VR fun. I'm also interested in Project Ara from Google but not sure if AR will be part of modular phones. My main reason for getting this phone is a bigger screen than my nexus 6 (I'm a gamer) and AR obviously. On a side note Intel is coming out with a VR & AR combo headset next year no smartphone or PC required. You can also use your naked hands to interact in the VR world.
I will am also be coming from a Nexus 6 once the Phab 2 Pro comes out. Sure would be nice for a definitive release date to be set though.
Announcement will be very soon I'm assuming, here's a video posted today, it's from a Greek website I had to use Google Translate

Note 4, here. I'm anxiously awaiting this, LG V20, and to see any other announcements. I WANT this size with the high resolution. Every other huge phone has been low end garbage. I'm a huge guy, I like the size. The camera/Tango setup looks nice, too. I can actually use it
I am also checking everyday. Do you have any idea if it will be released in UK or Ireland ?
Bad news - Delays!
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Leno...cial-Project-Tango-phone-gets-delayed_id85312
I would be SUPER excited if I had even a bit of hope that Verizon will carry this phone. I doubt it, and I'm stuck in a rural area with only VZW or USCellular as my options. I had a Nexus 6, bought a used 6P (love it!) on Swappa, and I'm extremely disappointed that the next "large" Nexus or Pixel is only 5.5"! Ugh. Maybe the V20 once it's rooted...
I'm definitely getting this phone when it eventually goes on sale. The best source of information I've been able to find for updates about the phone is twitter. From everything I've read so far, it may be out by late October or sometime in November. #Phab2Pro #WaitingNeverStops
This official looking marketing video would seem to confirm a November 2016 release.
Which marketing video would that be? I have seen quite a few, though none that hint at a date.

I'll be honest, it's pretty disappointing to see that so many corners were cut on the supposed flagship Google "Tango" device.
Snapdragon 652 - This processor is on par with last gen technology. It's not bad, but it's not exactly great either. That being said, don't expect it to match the iPhone 7, LG V20, or Note 7 in terms of performance.
Micro USB - Not sure what they were thinking here either. Most if not all new devices are now USB-C, yet here is a device that's implementing a last gen hardware feature. They really couldn't afford to increase the price by a couple dollars to implement a USB-C port?
LCD Screen - And the biggest disappointment of all is the lack of an AMOLED display. Nothing says "cheap Chinese phone" more than the lack of an AMOLED, which is extremely sad given that even the low end Galaxy and LG devices now sport AMOLED screens. (Hell, even Pixel has an AMOLED.)
I don't mind compromising on the first two points, but the LCD screen was a terrible decision, especially for a device labeled as "professional".
As much as I'd love to support Tango, I'm afraid this device simply cannot compete with the current flagship offerings. The gimmick is also doesn't carry enough weight to buy into this brand only to suffer with a sub-par display and Lenovo's questionable update practice.
I really hope Tango succeeds so that something more premium is made, but thus far it's looking pretty bleak.

I agree that the micro-usb is outdated. But, at least i'm still able to use all my old charging cables.
Anyhow, I just received the Phab2 (base), and while this model has a different screen supposedly, it is very clear and bright. moreso than i was expecting. if the low end version is this good, the pro must be pretty swell.

So where are you using this phone and on what service? I'm interested in the phab 2 pro but have never used a phone not supported by any carriers and they will never support a larger than 6 inch phone. It seems that this should work for at&t but I'm a little surprised people don't talk about the lack of carrier support a little more. I wonder if that is why it got delayed. Lowes and Best Buy have to figure out how to sell unsupported phones to people who have never bought one.

as of now, i switched from a t-mobile(metro pcs) phone to this and am on 4g only in the US, Florida specifically. I will hopefully be going to at&t next week, assuming i have time. regardless, 4g has been enough for the time being, but i don't like paying for LTE and not getting it.
my guess would be that upon release, all models will become either an AT&T exclusive or at least be advertised by AT&T, but i still can't even confirm the LTE bands this phone uses. Lenovo tech support says 1900, 1700 and 700, but he had googled it, as they don't have spec data yet, apparently.
Samsung is recommended to drop the Note brand here is why.
What do you folks suggest is this a good decisions or bad ?
Well...since they wanted to unify the family, maybe Samsung could consider rebranding the Note to maybe S8 Pro. Or S8 Plus.

From that report it says..."According to the source inside Samsung, a poll revealed that more than 50% of consumers polled now have a negative feeling about the brand." I wonder where that 50% came from.
I returned my Note7 to T-Mobile, and got v2 of eBay, Works Flawlessly, and NO, I'm not Returning this one ever, heck even if they blocked the IMEI, will still keep it, and would change Carriers if I have too.
Did anyone notice that there are no fire-cases any more? about 800,000 is being used so far and .... nada ! Go Figure
It's like nothing out there would ever please me except for this little Sucker.
BTW, I'm investing in it too, I Purchased the Official Wireless Battery Cover for $15, and the Official LED Flip case for $6, got 2x of each for these silly prices, stocking up on premium Type-C Cables and OTGs, NFC Tags for car/home/office and Rocking my 256GB MicroSD card inside of it, Damn, I'm loving it!
My Top features are:
- IRIS is Crazy
- Amoled SCREEN - Priceless
- Memory Expansion, What can I say
- Water-Proofing
- USB Type-C
- Always On Display
- Secure Folder
- Samsung Pay
- Blue light filter
- Wireless Charging and QC 2.0
- HW Specs and LCD size
- Heck, even the looks of the phone is phenomenal
Try to have all of these in (1) Device, and if you find it let me know !
Choose your Poll up above, and state your reasons and LOGIC for either choice, its about time to have a real-world numbers about people keeping their Note7

media are bored of it now. They ruined it through quite frankly appalling reporting! Now they've lost interest.
about a million note 7 around, and surprisingly, not a burning event any more, curious, dont you think?
once the damage was done, no more failures happening, I just knew it from the beginning of this staged campaign against the note 7, by far, the best phone of 2016, I got my first on 29 Aug, worked flawlessly, as the recall began, I reluctantly turned it in on 29th sept, got my v2 on 10th Oct, and, it works fine, in any case, I think that less than 100 devices out of 2 500 000, really doesnt look like a total failure, there are many, many other devices of every type, with higher failure ratios, cars included, and in cars, it is inmensely more dangerous, there are several ongoing recalls, laptops, and nobody makes any fuss about them, there are litterally thousands of very deadly things, that nobody gives a s**t about, that REALLY get people injured or killed, so, I think that a cellphone would be the least of anybody`s concerns, so,YES, I am keeping mine
I too, believe that it's a staged conspiracy against the Note7 and/or Samsung.
Other manufacturers are hopeless, Apple included, plus the liability in the stupid American market is just so lame that I find it so challenging to actually DO BUSINESS in here, the economy is down likenever before and people are hungry for any lawsuits to hit tge jackpot with and ..... you get the point.
Guys, make sure to Purchase Package Disabler Pro from PlayStore and disable all updates for the phone. No root required and completely safe to do. All of us Note7 keepers are doing it.

You aren't going to be able to get on a plane with this phone. Ever. Think about it.
Package Disabler has removed the ability to block updates. I assume they got pressure from Google and/or Samsung.

It is not true they are not failing anymore, it is just not getting served to us by the media anymore. You have to search if you want to find it.
I have not kept it because economically it is not worth it. For all the trouble, the phone is not worth the price tag anymore.
Also keep in mind that most people who did return it aren't sticking around to vote on this poll .
I am keeping mine 100% I've had it since 5 Aug, in all that time I have never had any issues with it at all. I've used it like I used any of my previous device - on the second day of owning the phone while visiting Abu Dhabi, I spent a whole day taking photos and videos in 50 degrees heat, the phone did heat up but did not catch fire, let alone explode.
I have the Note 4, Note Edge and Note 5 gathering dust in my house. I can't even contemplate going back to any of them. Note 7 is just way superior, it is in a different league to the above phones and the rest. It is the best phone of 2016 and other than a Note 8, I can't imagine anything even in 2017 matching it.
In order for the other brands to be able to complete in the market or even get a look in 2016/17, Note 7 had to be removed and that is exactly what happened.

I've returned it. The hassle to circumvent all the obstacles put in place is too inconvenient.
The 60% Charge. The bans on flights. The constant notices to return my phone. Besides, the discontinued updates, zero warranty and support if something else malfunctions, is probably not worth it.
Until the investigations are completed and the fault has been identified, we won't know if the phone really is safe or not.
And I'm not about to keep my phone to prove a point. Samsung did offer a full refund for my purchase anyway. So I just took it and now I've moved on to the LG V20. After experiencing Nougat on this thing, I lament the missed opportunities for Samsung to push Nougat for N7. Multitasking on this thing is brilliant. :/
Evem if the problem will be identified nobody is gonna say nothing about that. Neighter Samsung or anybody else. Everybody knows something stinks in this story.

I'm keeping my Note7:
I have 2 Note 4's and I'm keeping my Note 7. I purchased the 7 because it was shock-resistant and waterproof with built-in QI. My 4's are retrofitted with QI but only one charges through the Otterbox Defender case. With the 7 I don't need the big case or the 3rd party QI receiver. Also the case doesn't add waterproofing to the 4's. I'll get another note if it has these qualities.
I've had mixed results upgrading my iPhone 6s+ to this level, it has a QI case which gives it some protection but, while it has some shock resistance and waterproofing, these are not on par with the Note 7. The big problem here is there is no good place to put the 3rd party external stylus I got for the 6s+.
I have software updates turned off on the Note 7 and I'm preparing to root it if they decide to brick it. Right now I'm investigating backing up the firmware and device image.
btw. Now is a great time to stock up on accessories as they are going for a little over half price ... extra stylus anyone ?
Keeping mine. It shows no sign of over heating. In fact it seems to have more intelligent power management than my Note 4's or iphones. I did also put it on mid-level power management and I've disabled fast cord charging. I charge it exclusively with QI wireless charging which is very slow compared to the fast charge. I expect this to increase the life of my battery because I don't expect to be able to replace the Note7 with a phone that has similar features for at long time.

I'm keeping mine. I love it. I think this whole thing was a deal with the Apple Inc. So they would go away.
returned my Note7, still looking for a comparable replacement, nothing matches the feature of the Note7, probably will wait until Note8

I'm keeping mine too. I'm not seeing a poll to vote but maybe it's because I'm using tapatalk...

still keeping my first note 7.
The second one I will probably return as I cannot get it Sim unlocked. Need a second working phone now, cannot just have it sitting. Wish it was unlocked, would have kept it.
Just called Samsung, was told to send an email to another dep. they will give me s7 edge+100$. The usual old deal.
Looking at the speculation about the upcoming Galaxy S11, I'm wondering whether to cancel my preorder, hold on to Note 8, and wait for the Note 11.
For me, coming from the Note 8 to the Note 10 is quite an upgrade, but it's been spoiled by the negativity surrounding it.
It's possible that next years Note 11 will have a higher screen refresh, a new camera with 10x zoom, 5G on the SOC and hopefully no punch hole.
I know that the next big thing is always around the corner, but has the furore surrounding this years Note left a slightly bitter taste for you, as it has me?
Anyone else facing this dilemma,
I have a Note 8 and I'm getting the Note 10. Plus. It's a big upgrade from the 8. I don't care what others think. I like the phone and I'm getting it and can't wait.

Agree with you. I too have an N8 and N10 plus is a pretty decent upgrade.
Upgrading or not is an individual's choice and one may or may not have many reasons to upgrade or leave N10. I had decided not to upgrade from N8 and was waiting from Mate 3 Pro, but then i was in a Mall shopping & i crossed a Samsung Cafe and thought of checking the demo unit of N10 & i fell in love with its overall beauty and pre-booked it.

I tend to agree with you, for me, these controversies started with the pre release leaks that over hyped what to expect.
People were talking about 90hz screens, 10x zoom on 48 megapixel sensors, sound on display and free wireless buds.
It's then becomes a bit galling when none of it materialises on the Note, but yet competitors and even some Samsung non flagships are touted as getting these features.
What makes it worse is that Samsung developed these technologies and then produces them for it's competitors, but omits them on what's meant to be it's marquee device.
I have cancelled mine as it is not good enough to justify an upgrade from Note 9. I will have a look at what Huawei and Google have to say and decide thereon... In the meanwhile I do respect everyone' s opinion and decision...

My daughter has a Note 9, which I was in two minds of getting for her at the time, since I didn't consider it much of an upgrade from the 8.
I totally understand your stance, and in this period that we've entered of only incremental upgrades, the 'Note' upgrade cycle will for most people be biannual.
Duh.................................................nah. Not cancelling my preorder, there will always be a bigger and better phone right around the corner. I did get free wireless buds and a 10,000 mAh Portable Battery. Not as much as in the past but if you don't want it.....................................just wait.
I won't cancel mine now cause for a decent amount off when ordering from Very. I did expect possibly to get wireless earbuds but I think that was just cause I was hoping. Going from the note 8 also I very happy with my choice so far. Yeah I used my headphone jack before but I'll adapt as we all will have too soon
Don't base your decision on Note 11 rumours. Any Note 11 spec is just speculation and fantasy. How many years did people speculate things like a foldable, or in screen thumbprint reader before anything was released with those?
Will the Note 11 be better than the Note 10? Hopefully they get better with each version. The real question is are you ready to upgrade your Note 8? If so get the 10, if not, see what comes out next year.
Upgrading from the S9+. I figure it'll be a great update since it's a generation back. Plus, I like larger phones and the pen will come in handy. Also, I already use wireless buds at the gym, so the lack of a headphone jack is not a deal-breaker for me.
this 10x optical zoom?
what's the zoom on the note 10+ ?
I have the note 9 and I plan to upgrade. Reason is the trade in each year makes it worth it. I only spent 300 on my note 9 when I traded in my note 8 and the 10+ will only cost me 500 (300 when you factor in the accessories they give you). By the time the note 11 comes out I'm sure Samsung will give you a trade in allowance just like they did for the 10.
Hellz no.
I'm going from an S10 plus and Note 9 to a Note 10 plus.
I will so get the S11 and the Note 11 lol.
I've been doing this pretty much since the S3 with few exceptions along the way.
I also get a new google device yearly as well since the galaxy nexus other than the 1st gen pixel and pixel 3 xl (because they both were terrible).
No sense waiting...get what you want now then just do it again once the next device drops that you like.

Exactly. Doesn't make sense to wait. There's a huge difference between the 9 and the 10+, let alone the 8! I'm paying 340 for mine with the trade-in, barring they don't deny the hairline cracks in the back (not effecting the camera or screen).

I think it's 2x?
I once was that guy. Upgraded my phone every year.. until the Note 7 incident. Which to me was over blown also.. That's when we were downgraded to the S7. Hated that phone and thought I will be a note user for life. After I got the Note 8 and saw the note 9. I felt it wasn't worth the upgrade. So yes now I will be upgrading on even numbers. Odd numbers will get the best new features. And even numbers we get a little extra icing on our cake. I still don't see what all this disappointment is about this phone. I'm sorry but we have gotten spoiled about having all these great innovations every 6 months. I will say this. Hell you could have an Iphone.

I think most of the noise and disappointment could have been avoided if Samsung named the models differently. The Note10+ is really what Note users expect in a Note phone. If they would have called it the Note 10 and the smaller one the Note 10e I don't think there would be as many negative comments about this release.

Agree. My daughter got the S10 and the wife got the S10e, which is actually the S10 with a flat screen and slightly lower specs which is essentially what the Note 10 is except for the flat screen.

That's exactly what happened to me and where I stand. I also didn't get the Note 9 as I didn't see it as much of a worth while upgrade from the Note 8. But the Note 10+ is a different story and is why I'm getting it. I honestly don't care about the headphone jack as I rarely use it. My only thing is the notification light, but even then I am normally paired to my S3 Frontier so I also don't see that as much of an issue either. It wasn't even until I went into a T-Mobile store and saw and interacted with the demo unit that I was sold on getting the phone and also what sold me on not getting it in the aura glow color.
I have been having this disease of buying every new Samsung flagship since S- I9000. I said YES to my regular retailer who called me up for a preorder.
I got the chance to use the the non-retail N10+ for a day recently. Completely based on my own tastes, I'm finding this Note 10+, for the first time ever on a Galaxy Note , not adequately upgraded enough from its immediate "S" predecessor that I own, even though it's been upgraded in few other ways.
In short, I might end up cancelling it.Even if I buy after all, I will not be using it more than 3 months from now, as I am pretty sure I will be buying what Google has for us anyways on 1st release to replace daily driver - thriving to use ideas based on innovation that should actually work, that I'm not seeing in a long time.
