Hi.
I'm not sure what phone to get. This or the note 3 instead.
What do you think?

If talking about the Redmi Note 3 without "pro" (so the Mediatek variant), the answer clearly is: Buy the Redmi Note 4
If you think about the Snapdragon variant, the Redmi Note 3 Pro, the answer is more difficult. If you can live with MIUI, I would buy the Note 4. The Note 4 built quality is even better than the Note 3. In my personal opionion the Note 4 looks better, more valuable. In matter of performance they are nearly equal. Only if you want to install CM ROM, you should get the Note 3 Pro.
I'd get the note 4 over the note 3 pro anytime. The design on this is much nicer. And I'm sure people will find a way to get CM on this device
Is the camera on the Note 3 Pro a lot better than the Note 4? I use the camera a lot so this is a big thing for me.

If the camera is the only thing important to you, than stay with Note 3 Pro. It's not so big difference, but the note 3 pro camera is a little bit better.

It's not the only thing, no. But it is important. Think I'm going to wait and hope a SD Note 4 emerges, just like I imagine a of people are doing.

The newly announced redmi 4 might be worth a look, it's like a note 4 with a snapdragon 625 and a 5" screen.

This, the Redmi 4 Prime has an amazing battery life with the SD625 and 4000mAh battery. It's also very cheap, I don't see how the Note 4 Pro will be able to compete unless they decide not to release one.

It DOES look interesting. I would like the 5.5 inch screen but 5 is still good.
Not sure which Xiaomi phone to get? Don't worry, there'll be another one released in a few weeks which seems better
If you live in Indonesia, then the Redmi Note 4.
The Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon) variant has the 4G LTE disabled by Xiaomi if it detects an Indonesian SIM card inserted, to comply with Indonesian's tech regulation. The Non-Pro (MTK) variant has no such problem, but then it performs on the level of Redmi Note 2.
Hi there,
I have done lots of research and have come to the conclusion that my phone is a hybrid of both the note 4 and the note 4x. The box the phone came in clearly states that I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x with 4gb Ram and 64gb Rom. In the MIUI (Global Rom) About Phone details it says that it is a Redmi Note 4! No 4x.
The confusing thing is that I am led to believe the 4x has a Snapdragon processor , but I have the MTK Helios X20!
Have I been cheated? The box was sealed when it arrived so tampering looks unlikely.
I really want to clear this up before I start to get into the flashing of Roms and customisation. Mind you the custom Roms for the MTK chipset are few and far between compared to the Snapdragon Roms.
Any Ideas Guys?

Edit:
The case for the phone is the same as the Note 4x, with the IR port moved to the side on the top of the phone and also the screws at the bottom, that should be either side of the USB charge port, are gone.
Yes, it is confusing. ?
Redmi Note 4X is chinese Version. Non chinese are called Note 4.
Important is the Name: nikel or mido. MTK is nikel iirc.

I take it you've just received it? It seems you have the Note 4 pro prime MTK version, which has just been released. Confusingly there is a Note 4 pro Snapdragon version also. Where did you order from?

Yep, look at the Note 3 as well. There was an MTK version originally, then a Snapdragon version as there were pro/prime variants.

Strange, I thought the 4X model was Snapdragon only. What Soc does it specify on the box?

The redmi note 4x Pro in china is the MTK SoC version.
You did not get cheated.

I think that Xiaomi are blurring the lines a little here, although this is not anything new to the brand.
I could previously assume '4X' denotes a Snapdragon SOC but the OP/buyer should always confirm required & detailed specs upon purchase...we all know about assumptions.

ok, I'll tell you the history of RedmiNote4 .
RedmiNote4(nikel) first appeared in August 2016, which was powered by Mediatek HelioX20.
This model was officially sold in many asian countries, except India.
It is because of the raw ; we must not sell mtk-powered device in india.
And 6 months later, Xiaomi released RedmiNote4X(mido) which is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon625.
And Xiaomi decided to sell this model in India too, because this time, the device was powered by qualcomm.
But a problem happened. Xiaomi said to themselves "It will be strange for indian people to call this device 'RedmiNote4X' because there was no 'RedmiNote4' in India"
And they finally decided to call this device RedmiNote4 in India.
So, the model "mido" is called RedmiNote4 in India and RedmiNote4X in other countries.
Given the answer of gsmyth , I searched about "Redmi Note 4 pro prime" but it seems just some resellers and youtube-reviewers called so and it's not an official name at all.
I also glanced at the link where you buy.
I'm sure this seller is also confusing, there is no mtk-powered device called RedmiNote4X as you already know. And I don't think this seller wanted to cheat because RedmiNote4(nikel) has almost the same value and price as RedmiNote4X(mido) although its nature is different.
nikel has a much more powerful CPU, but mido is better on power consumption. If the device you have now(nikel) is not what you wanted, you can tell aliexpress and ask them to refund.
But in my sence of taste, nikel is better
glad if it helps you.

Because each variant of the device is sold by resellers and available globally. However Xiaomi calls certain variants by particular names depending on the region it is officially selling in e.g. mido which is just called the Note 4 in India, it is a Snapdragon powered version. But it's called the Note 4X outside of India and as per the explanation above Xiaomi didn't call it the 4X in India as India didn't have another note 4 variant to confuse it with. Confusingly there are Note 4 models (4GB/64GB) that are being marketed by resellers as the Note 4X pro and there is a both a Snapdragon and mediatek version.

I live in Europe. My RN4 has SD and the box has a sticker stating : "Global Version". This Version has LTE Band 20.
I own another RN4 SD ordered at another reseller. It has the same sticker on the box so I assume it isn't put there by the reseller but by Xiaomi.
At gearbest, honorbuy, ... they also sell an 'International Version' which has same specs but lacks LTE Band 20.

I wonder if there is any difference in the frequency band's between your model and the 3GB/64GB model. Xiaomi is certainly a bit crazy went it comes to different variants, as this is identical to the existing note 4 (MTK) except for the extra gig of ram.

So can I shoot another question? Where do I go now for all my custom Rom / Customisation goodness?
I have unlocked my bootloader and am about to install TWRP (cofface) and then root the device. I have noticed that since updating the MIUI Global rom (VIA OTA) to 8.1.6.0 that I have a massive battery leak somewhere. It feels like it's because of the Wifi being left on but I don't think its that. There is a fix I have noticed for the standard note 4 mtk that requires flashing 2 zips and that should help deep sleep problems.
I think that I should have preferred a snapdragon version as there are more Custom Roms , but due to hassle, I will keep the phone anyway. I just want the battery drain fixed!
Let me thank all that have helped with my initial dilemma and thank anyone who will help me in the future.
Hey, I'm going to buy a xiaomi redmi note 4 to replace my LG L Fino, and I want to know what is the name of Redmi note 4 with snapdragon 625 (not Helio x20. Example: Moto g2 - Titan, Moto G3 - Osprey)
