Custom Roms

Hey Guys,
Just got my new Galaxy S2 Yay, Can I jump straight into installing custom roms with Odin or do I need to do something first?
Regards,
Fenlig
Normaly custom ROMS come in .zip formats and if I'm not wrong you have to flash them via CWM recovery. For this you have to first root your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Then flash a kernel that installs CWM recovery, I use CF root.

Then you put the ROM in internal sd card, reboot in CWM recovery and flash the custom ROM.

Recovery problem..

when i install CWM in whichever color i like, the install is successful. when i boot into recovery for the first time, yes, the cwm recovery comes up. howver, any time after that when i boot into recovery i get the stock android recovery? Why? it is worthy to note that i am not rooted and im running 2.3.6 bell UNLOCKED bootloader.
Are you trying to use romracer's recovery? Or are you just installing CWM from the market? You might try flashing update.zip from stock recovery.
it happened to me when i tried flashing cwm for the first time !!
Then i tried flashing it with fastboot and it worked !!
try using fastboot commands with the recovery.img !!
rom racer's recovery is good but i myself use touch recovery !!

Hello, if you have problem with start recovery mod, i think, you can only use Odin and your phone in Download mode ..
Try flashing the official stock rom or the firmware

Is it ok to flash twrp over cwm or do i need to remove cwm first

Is it ok to flash twrp over cwm or do i need to remove cwm first. Hi i have been searching for this particular topic and found no definite answer. I am currently trying to flash blisspop rom on my phone and it says to use the latest twrp recovery. The problem is I have cwm installed on my phone. So my question is ok to flash twrp over cwm or set my default recovery to twrp
@onedaynerd: simply replace CWM with TWRP 2.8.6.1 by Odin. Ashame TWRP can't read/restore CWM-backups.

As far as I know, there will/can be only one recovery. Any recovery can be overwritten by the other. Just flash the new recovery and it automatically replaces the old one.
Example, If you are currently having CWM then boot into CWM recovery and flash the TWRP recovery zip file and reboot the device. Check the recovery by booting into recovery again. Now you will find TWRP as your recovery. CWM will be gone.
