use pdanet. it doesnt require root. but be warned you cannot use the hotspot on game systems or smart tvs. it uses wifi direct to bypass carrier data monitoring.

[Q] Wireless Tethering

Is there a way to get wireless tethering working on VS985 without having to add tethering to your plan (FoxFi or other)? I used it all the time on my Note 2 and have come to depend on it. Unlimited data plan. Thanks.
This link should do it for you.

you need to be rooted though.
Not working

It works. You need to change the name of the network each time. Also make sure to enable proper permissions I can confirm it is working.

I was under the impression that FoxFi works on the LG G3 and you don't need root.
Foxfi does not work! The http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/g3-hotspot-hack-t2812305 does. But you need to be rooted which is a easy as a breeze.
I got a "404" error on the prior link. This one works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2812305
I've got a question out on how to use Tasker to automate having to refill password and/or link name each time you use the apk included with the thread.

Yeah as mentioned by others it does not work. Unfortunately I need my work email on my phone and can't root it so for now I am use USB tethering via PDANet. Hopefully the developer finds a way around it. On the bright side, my laptop keeps the phone charged while I tether to it.

What you could also do is just change the channel. So pretty much just change something about the network everytime. i'd just go with the channel so the ssid just stays the same everytime

unlocked ATT phone use hotspot

I have an NEC Terrain that is carrier unlocked, I would like to use the hotspot/tethering features of this device but whenever I do it tells me it cannot check entitlement, which is the stupid restriction ATT networks place on it. However I'm using it on T-mobile.
From what I can tell It cannot be rooted, is there any way to use the tether or hotspot without rooting it?
It would seem almost illegal to restrict access to certain services once it's unlocked and you own the phone.... This has to be an issue for other ATT phones right?

You could try PdaNet. There's a good chance though that the wifi hotspot function will simply trigger AT&T's provision app though - it does that on my Galaxy Light from T-Mobile. There's a free/trial version, so it won't hurt to give it a try. PdaNet does have a bluetooth tether and USB tether too. USB or bluetooth tether to your computer, or bluetooth to a tablet with PdaNet Tablet running on the tablet.
Without root, that's probably about all you can do. I can pretty much guarantee you that nothing else on the Play Store will work.

VPN Disconnecting

I have tried few different 3rd party vpn programs and they all yields the same result, always disconnects after 30 seconds or so, especially when data is being used.
I read that could be Verizon, phone specifics, openvpn, vpn program, and or android kitkat.
I had the issue on stock root rom and Jasmine rom.
Is there any way to fix this?
I'm using the non LG vpn. pptp. my vpn works fine on jasmine 3.0. I know it's not secure but I'm not doing any banking transactions or anything.
perhaps you could give more info as what your connecting with and connecting to, and what protocol.

I just use the default protocols and settings that comes with the app. Lets say Cyberghost vpn app. It would say connected, I open Firefox, go (any websites), in less then 30 secs it would disconnect and would try to reconnect.
Bump
Anybody know anything about vpn over 4g?

Been an issue for years. It happens on almost every phone with every VPN app when using Verizon 4g. It has something to do with the way data is passed through Verizon 4g. There is some kind of firewall causing it used by Verizon. I read you can fix it by paying Verizon a buttload of cash for a static IP. Other than that, there is no fix.
And it's not like they want you using one anyway since they track what you visit on their network and sell that information.
I'm on the Jasmine ROM and even stock I used the LG VPN to connect and it works.
I can stay connected all day with no issues.

I had a s3 with Verizon and never had an issue with VPN disconnecting like with the g3. I do not know being on 4.3 on the s3 and 4.4.2 on the g3 has anything to do with it.

Any simple ways to bypass the security lock screen requirement?
I decided to try it and could not get it to connect with the VPN service I am using on my desktop.
VPN worked perfectly find for me on my note 2 that was on 4.3.
I know there is an issue with 4.4.2 because my note 2 on 4.4.2 didn't work either.
Anybody have anymore leads? I am aware that the stock VPN may work, but it does not have the options of the VPN apps (I need to configure each individual profile/site).

Yes, look up hotspot 4G for. If your rooted you can replace the hot spot APK under system apps.

POCO - hotspot without network aware flag

Hi
Can someone describe please what is required to do on this phone to disable 'network aware' flag when phone is used as hotspot? As I understand the phone needs to be rooted first. It should be possible then to change a config file somewhere so that if anything is rooted via phone's hotspot it make is invisible to network. Is there an app available which can do it.
Thanks
Sister has 4Gig data but network does not allow it to be used as hotspot. Hence the question

I am able to use the mobile data enabled hotspot without any issues
Hi
Thanks for reply. That is probably because your network provider is allowing you to use your data as hotspot. Hence not blocking traffic from other users via your phone. However, there is a way to remove a flag on other users traffic so it cannot be identified as comming from another device. It is part of OS config
That is what I am after
I know it is an old message but still not able to resolve this. Does the phone need to be rooted? Did not want to loose auto updates but if that is what it take I will have no options. I was hopping there are programs outthere which can do it without a root.
anyone?
change ttl to 65.
there are apps to do it easily.
??
