Hello together,
due to the fact that samsung is ennoying us with low memory on their galaxy devices and the new political decision to remove the adoptable storage function from android, I wanted to fix this.
I have tried different ways like using XPOSED FRAMEWORK including the OBB2SD or the XINTERNAL SD modul. All this ways work, but all of that need many manually doings (copy files ...) at the end of installations.
Because I am a lazy person, I searched for a configuration that makes it easy and more automatical and I found it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/patch-adoptable-storage-enabler-t3460478
How to / my installation process:
- Install TWRP like refered in a other thread
- Root your device if wanted with SuperSU 2.82 (stable) ---> Directdownload
- Install adoptable_storage_enabler_ashyx
- Install no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx (think not needed, but I try to stay save)
- Reboot device and have a look at the notification bar, a popup "new sd card detected"

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
- Follow the introductions after clicking on the notification and format your "new" sd card as internal storage.
- After formating you are done and your sd card will be used as internal storage --> application will be installed automatically on the sd card decided by the system algorithm
- Optional: Move/Migrate existing data via "Settings ---> Device maintenance ---> Storage ---> Storage Settings (three dots) ---> SD card ---> Migrate Data (three dots)"

I have several quick questions:
1. Do you have a rooted SM-T820?
2. Did you format a your SD Card as portable, then removed it from your SM-T820 prior to installing the patch?
3. Have you noticed any performance, reliability, or lock ups?
4. Did you install TWRP from the Play store?
Thanks in advance!

1. No, SM-T825 but the binaries are quite the same and different user in web say it is working on SM-T820.
2. I applied patch (think you mean the samsung -ota- update) before I formated SD Card as internal. Portable is the card at factory "design" and with portable you do not really share the space with the tablet storage and you are not able to install on SD card at adaptoble storage way.
3. The performance in games and apps is the same like from the internal tablet storage loading. Import thing is you will use fast cards (class10, u1, u3, a1). No reliability or lock up issues (from KNOX, ...)
4. I did not install TWRP from Playstore, I used TWRP from asyhx.
Well, my SM-T820 is now stuck at the flashing white Samsung logo. I've tried flashing TWRP using Odin again, then installing the adoptable_storage_enabler_ashyx, but no go. My SM-T820 is bricked now.
Do you have any ideas on resurrecting it?
Thanks,
Borsheck
Sounds not like a "softbrick" coming from adoptable storage script. Sounds like the brick I got with flashing magisk for root and xposed for magisk.
Did you root your device and with which root kit?
Did you installed the no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx script?
Just to say, on me it works only SuperSU 2.82 (stable) ---> Directdownload
How did you flash with ODIN? Only AP or all files (exclude HOME_CSC)?
If nothing works, you can unbrick your tablet with Samsung "Smart Switch" or "KIES". Both worked on my device.
Get the stock firmware and flash it with odin.

Thanks a ton for this. It worked great! Only thing I noticed is that after flashing the mod and then DMverity, I didn't get a prompt about a new SD. So just went to Settings --> Storage and formatted and then it asked me if I wanted to format as Internal and it worked perfect. Just for a heads up if any don't get the prompt.
Thanks, worked great for me. The reported storage is off, though, is that normal?
Will this storage become unusable when the device software is updated?

No.
So the adoptable storage won't be made inaccessible by a software update from Samsung?
If a system update turns off adoptable storage will the data be accessible in other ways?

Once your data partition and sdcard are formatted as adoptable it stays that way until you reformat the sdcard.
Wonderful. Thank you for your help and all the work you did finding and developing the workaround.
So I installed TWRP and followed the instructions in this thread which let me make the sd card adoptable storage. I then checked to see if normal software updates would be allowed "OTA". It refused to check for software updates and prompted me to reinstall the operating system with Smart Switch. I refreshed the device with smart switch and the previously working adoptable storage sd card became unavailable without a format as portable storage. So the format of the SD card did stay the same but the device refuses to read it on stock software.

Probably something to do with switching back to stock recovery. Afaik, you need stock system+recovery and I think one other to do OTA on any Android version or device. So when you tried to OTA and it didn't work it's because you had a modified recovery. SD being treated as internal and switching from stock recovery to custom probably broke something the system needed.

Did it wipe your data partition (internal storage)?
You should have simply updated with ODIN. That should maintain the adoptable storage.
The adoptable storage patch modifies system files which means OTA's won't work.
It didn't work for me after flashing, but the adb method used for s7 edge worked perfect

I got to twrp hit keep and adjust files at first boot up prior to install, installed adoptable storage and got some red errors. Do I need to click the 2 boxes about signature and reboot prior to install? After that got the softbrick. Then I tried to add the dm verity....no change, then restored in Odin. Then did same thing but did dm verity first......softbrick. I did not root it. Can adoptable file be corrupt?

No, pilot error.
After flashing the dmverity patch FORMAT, I'll say that again just for clarity, FORMAT the data partition.
And just one more time in case it isn't clear enough for anyone else....FORMAT the DATA partition.
Format, OK so where in steps does this take place. As after I installed it was the bootloop. 1st time twrp user
Hello,
I have tried to use this method on my Galaxy Tab S3 (SM-T820) using the latest Update (Security Patch 01/01/18) and it dosen't work. Maybe I did something wrong.
I tried with and without rooting using SuperSU as well as using TWRP with Read Only and Read rights. I only managed to wreck my Tablet three times in a row
If anyone can help me I would be glad.

Since i am on 1.4.1 , i couldnt able to root via .apk installation method , which is blocked on 1.4.1
Today i am going to purchase a microSD card to root and install CM7 or CM9 (anything other than stock ROM). Many tutorials i read says that i have to format the SD card to make it as bootable Rooter or something. My question is
- Do i need 2 SD cards , one to root and another as external storage ?
- Or 1 is enough to root and install , then later reformat it to use it as external storage for nook ?
- Which method / tutorial should i follow ? CM7 threads says to look at rooting and CMW installation threads . But these thread are little confusing me on SD card part.
Can anyone give an idea on how to proceed ? Again i am on 1.4.1 , unrooted , STOCK ROM and dont have a microSD card yet , going to buy today , so how much should i buy or 1 is enough to get me on CM7
Need urgent reply , as i am leaving to buy stuffs
I think there's only one micro sd port, so you'll only want to get one micro sd. There's no reason to get two. Just get the largest one you can buy. That's what I did. 32GB micro sd with CM7 installed. Afterward you'll need to run a partition program to resize the last partition to use up the entire space of the card. I ran into a little issue with that with windows partition program and have to boot ubuntu and run gparted.
I've rooted, booted in recovery, stored apps and media, flashed different mods and roms, and booted another NT into recovery all from the same 32gb card. Hope that answers your question. i personally wouldn't go with anything less than 16gb of space just due to the fact that anything else seems a bit of a waste of the sd card slot. IMO not the law
One sd card is sufficient for rooting the device. It really depends on how you want to root it now, internally (so you can use the internal memory but lose stock os) or bootable sd card (easier to revert but everything will be stored on the sd card)
Thanks for all the reply. Had some work come up , so didnt find time.
anyway got a 8GB card, is that enough ? i am not planning to watch movies on it.
I am planning to give this nook to my brother later , so i dont want to mess up with the stock OS. Can i root/install cm7 right from the SD card itself ? and if i remove , will the stock OS be intact ?
Also please let me know how to revert (once rooted/installed and if it did change the internal stock OS) back to stock OS.
With SD card , can i skip the registration process of stock OS ? recently i restored to factory setting , and i dont want it to update OTA to 1.4.1 and above if i am again going to go through the process . the device has not been turned on for a while.
help me here guys

You should make a CM7 SD card, directions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826
This way, when you put the SD card in and boot up, you will boot into CM7.
When you take the SD card out and boot up, you will boot into the untouched Barnes and Noble stock ROM.

After you write the .img to your card and after you extend the last partition of your SD card, you should have about 5.5GB for user data storage.
I don't believe you have to register your NT.
To be on the safe side, I would definitely recommend that you use an SD adapter when writing the image, but you should be able to do it when the card is inside of your NT, but mounted on your computer.

Alright, come back if you run into any problems.
I am just downloading the image file.
Planning to skip the registration process with that trick and load the sd card > connect it to system and burn the image on the SD card.
Hope it works
I skipped the registration process and inserted the SD card and currently running the disk imager to write that image file to h: (SD CARD)
hope i am doing it right.
It worked !!!!!
here is the storage details :
SD CARD
total : 1.3GB
Avail :1.3GB
Internal :
Total : 1.3
Avail : 1.17
Additional storage : /system
unvailable
Additional Storage : mnt/storage
Unvailable
Additional storage : /mnt/media
T : 1GB
A : 1GB
ok how to extend the partition now ? Also is there anything i should remember regarding these mnt/storage and /media ? I mean moving apps , stuffs like that ?
Okay, so the 4th partition is the only partition you want to change. If running Windows, download and install either:
Minitool Partition Wizard: http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html
OR
EASEUS Partition Master: http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm
Doesn't matter which, they're basically the same software.
Mount the SD card and remember the letter drive for your SD card (very important!)
You should see 4 partitions on your SD card drive, followed by unallocated space. Select the 4th partition and choose Move/Resize. From here you should be able to extend that partition to consume the rest of the unallocated space.
Now, double check to make sure the changes you made to your SD card are correct. When you are satisfied, hit Apply, and wait for the changes to take place.
When it's finished close to software and mount the SD card on your NT and check the storage settings again to make sure you are able to use the rest of your space.
As you know , i have been using nook to mount the SD card. Will this work with my setting ?
also when i try to mount this is what it shows

Open up one of the partitioning softwares and make sure your J: Drive has 4 partitions on it. If not, then you'll need to mount your SD card on the PC with an adapter or card reader.

i cant figure it out. I mounted and it is showing this . And J: is shown as BAD DISK
may be i should use an adapter.. or am i doing something wrong ?
sorry for the delay in replying , i am on a slow speed net and taking screenshot , editing takes some time.
Try using an SD reader or adapter. It should solve this problem.

meanwhile , is there any way i can install B&N reader ? i am outside of U.S .
The Nook app is available in the Play Store.
If you mean the Barnes and Noble stock reading app, I believe you can extract the app from the stock ROM. The app is simply called Reader, and should be listed in /system/app.
Not sure what's causing the trouble as the instructions seem pretty straightforward - but that may be my problem, assuming this is easier than it is.
So, what I have:
- 16gb Nook Tablet, just deregistered and restored to 1.4.0
- Macbook Pro to do the actual rooting
- 2gb MicroSD that I had AdamOutler's stock firmware restore (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190) - it actually didn't work - granted I put it on there quite some time ago and it's probably been revised - so I just did a deregister, no worries ...
- 32gb MicroSD which I'd been using for extra content.
I want to go to CM7; I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826 by CelticWebSolutions (as I'm sure everyone else has!); in it he states that you need CWM installed and running to do an internal version.
So, I found this thread, by Indirect (mad props to all of the above, by the way): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583
At the bottom of page 2, VanillaIcee wrote:
MAC INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Insert the SD card into your Mac
2. Open "Disk Utility" and click on the SD card on the right
3. Click "Info" and note the disk identifier (in my case disk3)
4. Unmount partitions of sd card by clicking unmount
5. open Terminal.app
6. Navigate to folder containing cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img (requires knowledge of basic unix commands)
7. Type "sudo dd if=cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img of=/dev/[disk indentifier] bs=1m" which in my case read "sudo dd if=cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img of=/dev/disk3 bs=1m"
8. Wait as this process takes a while to complete (sometimes 10 minutes to write 2GB). You can type ctrl-t to get a status update, the number before records out represents MBs transfered (should end at 2048)
9. Eject the SD card and follow the instructions in other posts

OK, so, to start, I'm not sure if I should be trying to run CM7 internally or if I should do a disk image off the SD card (the larger one I'm sure), with what I have.

I am assuming I want 'NONAME' - that's the SD card; I think 'MYNOOK' is just the tablet's onboard memory.
I've got 'NONAME' 's disk identifier (disk1s1) ... I am unsure what to do next.
Is it Gapps_and_root.zip that needs to be on the SD card? I'm not sure how, as #6 in VanillaIcee's instructions states, to "Navigate to folder containing cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img" (on account of lacking that knowledge of basic UNIX commands he mentions, obviously! )
Can someone who's been down this road tell me the best way to proceed? Again, I'm not even sure if internal or SD card image is the way to go for me.
Thanks very much for your help!
This is what you need to do if you want CM7 to run internally.
1. Store the CM7 zip file and CM7 gapps on the internal storage of your nook (it will mount as "MYNOOK."
2. Create a cwm bootable sd card, as seen here. Stop after you have completed step 4 or 5 (booted into cwm successfully).
3. Make a backup of your current OS, then install from zip, find the cm7 zip file and install. Make sure to do a data wipe/factory reset after. Install gapps after the wipe.
4. Boot into CM7. If you want internal recovery, use indirect's app to flash it. You could then reformat the sdcard you used for cwm recovery and use it for other stuff.
---------- Post added at 04:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:51 PM ----------
I just realized you oare doing this on a Mac. Basically, you need to "burn" the cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img to an sdcard. Not just transfer, burn. Then you will be able to boot into cwm and flash the cm7 rom, provided you transferred the cm7 zip to your internal storage.
The gapps and root zip file is a zip file that is flashed after you are booted into cwm, however this will only root the stock OS and add google apps. It will not put you on CM7.

Thanks for the response!
So a couple questions - first, what *is* CWM? I cannot find exactly what it's an acronym for, anywhere. Dumb question, I'm sure, but I'm curious.
Next, If I have an SD image on the 32gb card, I can still use the remainder of the card for storage, correct? I will travel with the device and want to have some movies loaded onto it, as well as the usual gamut of books and games.
I'm sure that's an equally dumb question.
So I must burn the CWM zip to the smaller MicroSD, boot the NT using that card, then flash it with CM7 which I have installed on the NT's internal memory, correct?
I'll figure this out. Thanks for the help so far!
CWM is Clockworkmod Recovery. It is a custom recovery for backing up/restoring roms and for flashing roms/mods to a device. It does other things as well, but these are the primary uses.
Now, you are not burning the zip file to the sdcard. You are extracted the zip file and burning the clockworkdmod .img file to the sdcard. Upon doing so, the card will be sized down to the size of the img file. You could either expand it to make use of the rest of the space (a bit complicated and more work) or simply reformat after you are done. I recommend the latter.
You just about have the steps down. Store the cm7 zip file on the internal memory of the nook. Just transfer it over like you would any other file. Then burn the clockworkmod .img file to the sdcard, thus creating a bootable sdcard, that will boot into clockworkmod recovery. Then, boot into said card, create a backup of your current OS (just in case, always do this before flashing a rom) and then flash the zip file you stored on the internal memory of the nook. You will also need to wipe data (option located in the main menu in clockworkmod) and then flash cm7 gapps if you want the play store and the other google apps (roms do not come with this).
Once you are booted into the rom, you can then format the sdcard (there's an option somewhere to do it). This will get rid of the .img file you burned to the card and restore it to its full capacity. You can then download indirect's app that I linked, install it and flash clockworkmod and you will now have recovery on the internal system, rather than via an external card.
Lots of info, I know. I suggest reading my thread here for a bit more explanation on all these terms and such.
That helps immensely. I'll give it a whirl, thanks very much.
This is a flashable zip for cm10 that will:
mount external storage to /storage/sdcard0 and internal storage to /storage/sdcard1
remove all links to /storage/sdcard1 (internal storage)
link /storage/sdcard1 (internal storage) to /internal_sd and /mnt/internal_sd
survive a cm rom flash (as long as /system isn't formatted beforehand)
md5: 838eb8b6e9fb2246efdc0f39d6c21c10
Sweet! Gonna try.
Works well.
EDIT: You can ignore this post. V2 now saves camera pics/vids to the external storage.
I know some people wanted this so their pics could be saved to the external storage but it doesn't work. The camera/gallery must be hard coded to save to /storage/sdcard0.
The only option I can think of to change this is to mount bind /storage/sdcard1 to /storage/sdcard0/DCIM. But this will save all of the camera folders to the root of the external storage. If people are interested in this I can look more into and see if it is actually possible without bad side effects.
Hey I was going to reply to your PM but I figured posting here would bump it up and let other people see it.
Anyway I finally got a chance to try out the zip (on vacation) and I don't see a difference. The mount points remain the same if I go to storage under settings it still shows the internal as internal and sdcard as external.
If I try to move an app over it still moves it to the internal space.

No. But in twrp you can choose to backup to the external storage.
Does this script works on all devices? I have galaxy tab 10.1 on CM10 and wondering if I can flash this script.

When you say "survive CM ROM flash as long as system isn't formatted...", do you mean that a complete wipe can't be done? And if a complete wipe IS done, assuming it erases this mod, can the mod be immediately flashed after flashing the ROM, or do we need to boot the system once for some setup actions before the mod will work?

Depends on what you mean by complete wipe. If you wipe/factory restore the mod will stick. If you flash a cm ROM the mod will stick. The only time the mod will be gone is if you format /system or use one of those super wipe things.
Edit: The mod will also be gone if you flash any other ROM other than cm.
If you do format system and want the mod back you can flash it after the ROM in the same recovery session.

Let me NAND backup, and I'll flash stock CM10, make some notes, then flash this and compare. Thanks for the responses!

Okay, after quite a bit of flashing/rebooting, and various tests, I can confirm that this DOES INDEED fix the CM USB desktop mount issue. Instead of USB mounting making the internal storage available to the OS of the host computer, it instead makes the external SD card available. AWESOME SAUCE!!!
So, just for those that may be curious (and to show the lengths I went to to see how this mod changes the filesystem), I've listed below all of the conditions I looked at before and after flashing this mod.
I used two OSs on the phone (Stock with Goodies v2.03, just as something to compare CM to, knowing that it isn't affected by this mod; and CM10 nightly from 9/06). Also, on the host side, I used all three major OSs (Mac, Lin, Win), just to verify that the USB storage mounts I experienced weren't flukes.
I know that a lot of this is really redundant, as most of these locations are linked and such, but I included everything just for completeness.
And here it is…

EDIT: And of course, all of my spacing is removed... This really should be WYSIWYG.
Just so you know that ext_sd folder on your internal storage can be deleted if you like. Sense creates it to link to the external card. So on cm10 its useless.
FYI this was taken from the cm10 thread:

After I flashed this mod I found that I was no longer able to take pics in rapid succession as it took several seconds to save each pic to the external card. Thought I would throw it out there in case it is important for others thinking about using this mod. I've got a 10 month old and taking quick pics kinda matters to me.
FWIW, I have a class 10 card.

Hmm... I'll have to look into that. Honestly though, the camera on cmx is ****e, relative to sense. If I end up loading cmx into the phone permanently, it's with the understanding that I'll be bringing a point and shoot with me, for pictures that matter (or the crappy camera/slowness would be fine for things that are out of the norm/unusual occurrences). In my use, mounting the external to the desktop is a much higher priority than quicker pictures. Just my usage, of course; everyone has their own priority
Not to mention, is someone has a highly rated class 10 SD card (versus a cheapie), there shouldn't be much lag unless the system is a bottleneck.
Hi,
beacuase I had no other problems, I thought it would be a good Idea to encrypt my Android device. I did this first for the device through the settings menue and everything went as expected and my device was encrypted after a few minutes.
After that I wanted to encrypt the external SDcard aswell. But unfortunately when I select Encrypt SDcard in the settings menue, and the current password is requested, after entering the password, I get the error message: Error encrypting the sd card. Unable to mount the SD card.Tap mount to mount the sd card, after which the password prompt comes again.
WHen I look in the files directory, the external sdcard does not showup at all.
Anyone knows what the problem is?
I'm using the current STock Rom for Open German devices that was installed OTA a few weeks back. I have only rooted the device and done nothing else to it.
WHat went wrong? How can I get access to my external sd card back?
WHy does google offer such a option if at the end you end up loosing access to your sd crad?

Can you open de SD card on a PC? What do you see?
I don't think that Google intentionally implemented a "destroy SD Card" function. But it could be that something is flawed. It happens.
I can access the sd card on my pc without any error via the mini to maxi SD card adapter that came with the SGS2. I backed up all my files and everything looks normal on the sd card. So i could now format the entire sd card if that is necessary.
Thats the error message i receive:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After clicking continue and entering the password, it keeps coming back to this error message.
I also realized that there is a message showing "preparing sd card checking for errors"
But that never ends.
I formatted the sd card on my pc with different file sizes and with the sdformat tool from sdcard.org, as instructed in many posts that deal with this issue. But nothing helped.
The sd card is however accessible from the recovery menue.
I now removed the encryption from the device via the option in the settings menue. The encryption from the device is now apparently gone, but the message "preparing sd card checking for errors" is still there and I cstill can't access my sdcard.
Furthermore this sdcard has never been used in any other device. The problems started, when I encrypted the device. The sdcard was inside the device when I encrypted it.
I don't know what else I can do. I wish I never had tested the encryption feature.
A solution that worked for me
So this happened with me too.
It went away after I took these steps, in sequence:
1. Turned off the device (full power off)
2. Turned it back on
3. At this stage, the problem persisted
4. Removed the SD Card out
5. I saw the message "It is now safe to remove the SDcard". After I removed it. Oh well.
6. Re-inserted the SD card.
7. The same message came back - but this time it was gone after a few seconds, and got replaced with "the device has been encrypted".
I do not know if it was the entire set, or if it was only steps 4-7 that made it work - I'm just happy it worked

That didn't help for me.
I finally had to factory reset my device and then I first encrypted the SD card and then the device and that worked. Now both my SD card and device are encrypted.
BTW: I restored most of my apps and settings with the app "App Extractor" from my Clockworkmod backups. And that really works.
Only thing that didn't work was restoring all known W-Lan networks from App Extractor.
Things you might have to consider and I only found out later is:
1. You can not update over the air to a newer Firmware version if the device is encrypted. You have to decrypt it first, which takes some time to do.
2. YOu can not make Clockworkmod backups, once your device is encrypted. SO you have to decrypt the device first before you can update to the new firmware or if you want to make clockwork mod backups.
Once you are happy with your system settings, then It is ok to encrypt I think.
I have to add other disadvantages of the ENcryption Option which I just discovered.
1. The external SD card appears not to be encrypted at all. At least it is possible to access the files without any password prompt from the recovery menue. I was under the impression that that would not be possible.
2. If there is not enough space left on the encrypted SD card, a mounting and decryption is not possible anymore!!!!! You need to have at least 14 MB space left for the device to mount a encrypted sd card. If not, then you will not be able to mount it. Also If you want to decrypt the sd card once you have encrypted it, you need at least 400 to 500 MB of free storage on the device.
If you don't know this and have less than this amount of space left, then you will be in trouble and should have a copy of your files from the SD cards available couse formating will be the easiest Option everything else is a Pain in the ass.
I was only able to successfully decrypt and mount my formerly encrypted sd card when I discovered the point under 1.
So please be aware that the Android device encryption schould be considered highly experimental.
I have the same problem

I'm happy I didn't try it now. btw, once card is encrypted, can it b read in a computer ?
The external card never gets encrypted as far as I see it.
I can't remember whether i used the sd card in an adapter on my pc, I assumed that it was encrypted so I didn't try accessing the supposedly encrypted sd card on my pc via an adapter.
but you can access the files from the encrypted device by mounting it via USB cable.
Is google aware of these shortcomings of the device encryption?
They sell it as device encryption and you assume that you are save in case the phone is lost. But that is not the case.
Anyone knows whether these issues have been resolved in Jelly Bean?
Hey,
anyone has tried the device encryption on Jell bean yet?
Are the issues that we have talked about in this post resolved?
Is the external SD now also encrypted or still not?
And is the recovery possible with an encrypted device?
I'm too scared to get in the same problems again and therefore would like to know if someone was already brave enough to try encrypting under Jelly Bean.
OK. I tried encryption on Jelly Bean myself. And the status is unchanged to the prior version. External Card is still not encrypted, despite it beeing show as encrypted in the device settings.
So be aware about that.
Same here
Couple of weeks back, joined the phone to the mail server at work. Was on pattern unlock. SD card said was encrypted and required PIN. What pin? Fortunately, set to PIN unlock and could see SD card contents again. Dumbass that I am, did not immediately back up contents.
Today, went to play some music. No music. No pictures. No video. Tried rebooting phone. No go. Changed PIN. Still no. Reinserted SIM. Nope. Not sure what else can be tried. OI file manager just shows "Scanning" when I try and access the device.
Encryption (this implementation anyway) is buggy and should not be trusted.

Managed to get access again by unmounting the SD card and ejecting and reinserting. It then asked for the PIN (which was the original one, not the new one). Hope this might help someone in the same situation. I'm hoping removing the phone from the mail server and using Divide will work (I'm mostly after calendaring anyway)
Now I'm stuck with the ugly problem that I decrypted the SD card and it is *still* asking me for the password. It's like it is not a full decrypt. I guess the answer is to copy everything off and reformat.
same problem with kitkat
even i have encrypted the device., now i cant use external sd , no option to decrypt. ANDROID sucks :crying:
Any update on encryption for I9100?
Is this a I9100 specific problem or is the encryption buggy for other Android devices as well?
There are several sites promoting the use of Android's encryption feature. Are these guys just not aware that encryption doesn't work? Or does it work for them properly?
I only have a I9100 and can't test it on other devices.
Encrypt SD Note N-7105
I had exactly the same problem and I did many things before to finally solve. I made a soft and hard reset, erase cache-dalvik cache and factory reset annnndddd, NOTHING. Finally I reset it to factory, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, format system all what de recovery said that can be resetted except, the modem. I flashed my amazing DN4 v2.2 again anddddd Voilà the "Preparing SD Card for errors" and "Blank SD Card" disappeared. My sd was ok ever. I hope this can help you.

Hi,
I tried to format the sd card as an internal storage, though I'm willing to sacrifice this sd card as permanently internal storage. 32gb is kinda not enough since I'm intended to use onedrive as offline usage (onedrive only save in internal storage in android).
I tried the ADB style, it is not working either. Do you guys have other method or proven ways to format sd card as internal., for this tab s3 especially.

For some inexplicable reason, Samsung disables "Adoptable Storage" on their devices; a system file (sm.jar, i believe) must be patched to enable it. This thread may help, but I would proceed extreme caution as it appears this patch is specific to Marshmallow:

This most definitely does work with this device. I literally just installed it and it is working on a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Plux. It did boot loop once but afterwards recovered stock ROM due to encryption issues, tried another method (because the patch modifies the system and therefore triggers Samsung to say NOPE).
Do these Steps:
0) Download the patch off this thread.
1) Download ODIN from here.
2) Download TWRP from the TWRP Guide.
~~~Refer to the TWRP Guide. Again. Note you do NOT need root. Read the following but ignore the "root" parts.
To disable forced encryption, mount internal storage(DATA) and disable dm-verity:
(Note this MUST be flashed after SuperSU if you intend to root)
1. Boot to Twrp
2. Format Data partition using FORMAT DATA button under Wipe options.
(Note: This will wipe the internal storage)
3. Check DATA is mountable.
4. Install SuperSU (if root is required)
5. Install boot image patch below.
Originally I was going make a video of this to show, so folks here know how to do it, but forgot
I don't think I can bear spending another hour flashing stock to root again though (the first time I bricked it accidentally). But perhaps I will eventually, there at least two people here with this mod working so surely it can't just 3 of us with working shared storage. As always, you do this at your own risk.
Edit to add: Latest update is 09/28/17 and I'm using a firmware that's already 3 months behind.
2) I don't know if this is compatible with *your* model and I don't know anything about the variations of ROMS thereof, I'm just explaining how I did it, don't shoot the messenger.
Is there any easy option here then that won't brick my device? I've just purchased an S3 and I'm annoyied you can't use the SD card for internal storage. 32gb isn't a vast amount of space nowdays, why would Samsung turn off this option??
Wow, this is news to me and SO DUMB of Samsung to do this! What the hell would be the reason for this? If they're going to remove this feature, then this tablet should've came with at least 64gb. 32gb is weak for a $600 tablet!
No need for that. Don't download Lotta apps. Play one or two games at a time finish them. Use your phone for other stuff. I use tab mostly for HDR video Netflix Amazon and download on SD card 64 GB so no issues. 32 is actually good will save a ton of battery tab easily lasts 2 days with binge watching on speakers and 67 percentage or full brightness last about one and a half day
There is a developer option to force apps to move to SD card
how do u enable microsd card as internal storage on android 8.0 oreo? samsung t820
It is simple. Just flash the ZIP file which I attached here in Recovery and then you will be able to format SD card as Internal Storage.
*** If it is not working, you must need to FORMAT DATA to delete the encryption, so before of that - make a backup of all your files ***
I tested it on Android 13 and it is working perfectly.
Then you can use for example an app: APP2SD (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd) from Google Play to move apps to adopted storage (SD CARD)
