Hi there guys..
I just saw an offer on GB for the Honor 9 at € 281, which is indeed a great price. It's the International version, they say but there's something weird.. I read here on xda a few people that ordered the International version (don't know where) that should be AL00 but received Asian version, L29.. He had to flash the international rom. It's not that I fear flashing something but I wouldn't like to buy a thing and receive another one..
Anyway, just in case, flashing the International firmware does stop receiving updates, somehow? Until the firmware is stock, unrooted and bootloader untouched it shouldn't be an issue, I guess..
More important: I read that both versions have the same identical hardware so it's natural to think that the LTE 800 MHz is missing from International version, isn't it? Otherwise what's the difference about? Just a firmware? Still it would be weird because if I recall correctly Honor 8 eu version had it (but I maybe be wrong).
Last but not least, from your personal experience, is it a good device to buy for that price? I' not so sure and I would like to wait for something new but the offer is really good considering the original price..
Mmmm it's weird btw.. I just checked on AliExpress for prices comparison and I found a device with Internetional Honor 9 but the codes to pick from are AL00, AL10 or TL01.. so neither one is Internetional version (yeah I could flash as we said)
EDIT: this is the link https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_649021.html at normal price, there's a code for discount (if you need tell me via PM I could share, even if there are only 30 so don't know how much they'll be available). From the latter screenshots in the page it seems it should be STF something, could it be? What's that?
The only color available is the pure black, maybe gray is better as overall looking, isn't it?
EDIT2: I see you have it, STF from your signature

sorry mate I edit my post.. so basically from the link I posted above, the screenshot says STF-L09C432B100 so it should be basically as the one you have.. was your device International when you bought it?

I fear this is the International version signature, the European one (where LTE B20 is used if poor 4G signal) is FRD-L09 or L16 (32GB and 64GB).. I'm really tempted but I'm not sure now
EDIT info here (post 4 and so on) https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/how-to/model-stf-l09-t3636884/page3 and here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/frd-l19-europe-version-64gb-buy-t3458943
This i my case. I live in France, last month I ordered a Honor 9 black on the website priceminister with good offert, saved around 130€ vs buying here. The seller is from China, so I thought this phone is Chinese version, I prepared myself that I will do "rebrand". I received the phone yesterday. It is written AL00 version on the box, but when I started, surprisingly there is already all Google services, and in the settings, it is L09...version, and it received an update to ...130 immediately after. So, I thought the seller did "rebrand" the phone before. I'm happy with it. Only one minus thing, the charger plug is asian type, not european type, I need an adapter

That's the same case with me. Though I don't live in Europe and honor 9 is not officially available but there are grey importers that bring in the phone from China and rebrand it. Luckily the seller did provide an adapter.
Problem is not the model strictly but the fact that only European models have band 20 (800 MHz) for LTE.. (so FRD-etc) ?

So a seller is selling a Chinese Mate 10 but he will install an international ROM on it. The question is, is it the IMEI number that tells you the origination of the phone or the software version?
When I bought my Mate 9, it was the C636 Asia version and had no idea at the time it is not covered by Huawei UK support. So is it ok to buy a Chinese Mate 10 with an international ROM, or should I buy it somewhere in Europe where it is released like Spain or Mexico? I would like the phone to be covered by Huawei Support but not sure if they check the IMEI or Firmware version to determine if it is eligible for support/warranty.
Am in the UK.
Thank you!
It will not be covered.

Hmmm I am tempted to get one from China as it would be the 6gb, 128gb version for the same price as the 4gb, 64gb version in Europe. I works just lose the official support. Hmmm!

You will also notice some other minor issues as there is a reason the Chinese devices are separate from others. Things like GPS and the way cell signal are done are very different then in the rest of the world. I would do some research first as there are thousands of horror stories of people buying the China version of devices and things just not being dependable.
Hi all,
I'm keen to get the Mate 10 (non Pro) 6GB/128GB now - and I see some of you have it! (I have the Mate 9 Pro)
I'm in the UK - where's a good place to buy it? I see Wondamobile and TradingShenzhen and some of you give good reviews.
A few places like Banggood have it but not available for weeks.
Can this version be rebranded? FunkyHuawei seem to do it?
I have purchased from Wonda before with good service. Took a while to arrive though! Thinking of the Mate 10 at moment!
I've been in touch - FH say that the Chinese version of the 6GB/128GB can be rebranded to Asia. They're saying not to rebrand to Europe as this is a single sim ROM and they don't know how the second sim slot will behave.
So where can I buy it? Somewhere preferably that can avoid import customs and tax to the UK?

According to Wonda Mobile website, they have arrangements with shipping courier to pay all VAT and import fees. The price at checkout is FINAL. No need to risk being charged a VAT up to 20%
This explains why they're about £50 more than anyone else.
Giztop now appear to have stock and cheaper than Wonda(£699) or Shenzhen(£649) at £615

But Wonda will rebrand the phone for you and have excellent ratings.

I have ordered it from Wonda and asked them to rebrand it to L29C636. I know it's more but I hear it's very difficult to rebrand so I will let them do it.
I'm quite curious as to how well this particular model would work on AT&T in the US? I'd love to grab it but $900 is very pricey if I cannot take full advantage of its connectivity.
Guy's I would recommend Wonda Mobile, I have bought a total of 22 phones from them in 12 months and never had a single issue

This is getting exciting! I'm still a little confused about versions. Is the L29C636 the Asian version? Is this version devoid of all the Chinese features, but allows two LTE sims? Whereas the "European" version only allows one sim? Are there other differences. Anyways, please keep folks posted on how it works out. Thanks!

Yes - that's the sum of it.
You may find that you can't do OTA if you're outside Asia. I have a Mate 9 Pro - L29C636 and until very recently, I had to install updates via Funky Huawei. Huawei seem a little odd in their approach to updating - your device needs to be authorized to receive it, but if you were in the wrong region for your phone, it wouldn't update without a sim from that region.
Saying all that, my Mate 9 Pro received, for the very first time, an OTA update this week.

Ok. Hopefully the OTA situation changes with Mate 10. One more question. Do voice commands for default apps work in English using Asian version? For example, I have a Chinese version of the Mate 9. The default phone app allows voice commands to answer phone but you had to say "answer" in Chinese. It could not be made so that you could say "answer" in English. Thanks!

My understanding is that Asian version ties up to Singapore, where the default language in English. I've never encountered anything remotely Chinese on my 'Asian' version. I use Google Now, but not used voice commands per se!
My kate has been with me faithfully more or less since day one, have replaced the screen twice, replaced the charging port once and still she is rocking

China version was only release today.
Your link is a place holder listing, that has been up for about 2 weeks.
No global rom available yet and link say supports Band 20 etc, that particular device has not been announced yet.
If you order from there you will probably get the china/Indian version with a vendor rom.
See https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/ for latest on that particular device!

You won't know what version it is till you get it.
Check the specs against this spec list.
Already point out one error in the listing that makes it sound like it is the Indian version.
And back camera specs is for Indian version: - Back camera 12.0MP f/2.2 + 5.0MP f/2.0
As your using a Kate, I assume you would need the global version for EU bands (3,7 and 20). Wait till the global version is release.
Its definitely the Chinese version look at the delivery time the phone is not due out for another month or so
Also it is the global version
BUYER BEWARE!
Another error in the link provided, states android 7!
Chinese version comes with Oreo 8.1!
Also the linked store is not an official xiaomi store.
They also updated the listing with: -

Look I know you mean well
See this article to clear up the confusion: https://www.review-hub.co.uk/redmi-note-5-review/
Trust me its the chinese version, its the global version, it will come shipped with Oreo
Anyway back on topic what do you think?
@gap30 Your article has not told me anything new.
They may well ship the global version.
I intend to purchase it from a more reliable store, probably from one that provided VAT Free DHL Shipping to EU!
For example Hong Kong Goldway or Mi Global Store.
Both stores also have pre-orders up, with limited listings, or inaccurate for global device.
Or a retailer with EU Warehouses.
Your particular store, i have a bad taste from, they use to label themselves as Xiaomi Authorized Store before.
My Kenzo is still performing well, so I will wait until July/August to purchase. By then the prices should have stabilized.
Also we will have a better picture of Custom Rom Support. But for a device that has Oreo and Treble support, i don't see a problem in that matter.
Well initial reports seem fairly positive on the CPU: https://www.androidcentral.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-5-pro-benchmarks-snapdragon-636a
Edit
@gap30 Did you manage to pre-order one at the sale price? Within an hour the price return to the full amount. So I say they didn't offer many at the sale price.
It is also available pre-order from Mi Global Store for a similar price with VAT free shipping.
^^^^ Pre-order at your own risk, does not list full specs or Bands supported.
I've just ordered the 256Gb Reno 10X from Amazon Spain which they are shipping internationally to me. The website does not make it clear, and they do not seem to be sure, whether the one they have is the Chinese or International variant. Will it be obvious when I get it which it is - the model number on the box or anything else? How can I tell?
Amazon Spain will ship the international version usually, of course you will see what version is inside the box once you got it.
Chinese version is PCCMOO, international should be something with CHP1919 or something like this...

Thanks. I'm sure you're right. I just wanted to be sure whether it is obvious which it is when it arrives. Amazon confirmed that they would pay for my returning it if it is the wrong one.
So here's the thing I want the pro version of this phone... But I have no idea where to buy from.
There's so much conflicting reports about global versions... And local versions...
Firstly I feel the posted price for the European phone is insane... A massive markup from the Indian and Chinese version. But truth be told I've yet to actually find a reputable EU /UK based seller...
So far I've only found the dodgy shops that import from China. So I have no idea if I'm really getting a 9t pro with b20 and widevine/windvine? Support and a locked bootloader... Yes I bank on my phone... Or a hacked global rom k20 that doesn't have these things.
I've also heard that the Indian k20 pro does have all this support but there's no hard facts in it...
I live out in the country so I can't live without b20. And I bank on it so I can't use a hacked rom.
So where am I meant to buy this phone from at a reasonable price?
Amazon Spain or Germany
Have a look at this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/help/9t-pro-8-256-varient-t3964710
It looks like there are some sellers now selling the official global version, as opposed to the European version. The global version comes with the 2 higher 8GB RAM variants that are missing from Europe. They also seem better priced than the European phones.
It might be worth waiting a while to see the feedback from people buying from the sites mentioned. The OP in that thread has a site that certainly looks like it's the genuine article that is listed.
As for the Indian model, it is physically missing the NFC hardware, so probably won't be a viable option for you

The store in first post in that thread appears to be selling a legitimate global Mi 9T Pro. It claims it has B20 and comes with official global MIUI factory installed. They say it is sent factory sealed, they haven't opened it to install anything. If you go to the global MIUI site you'll see the Mi 9T Pro advertised with up to 8/256GB, so that is a genuine option of the global Mi 9T Pro. I've not followed the thread fully since, so some of the later stores mentioned could well be selling K20 Pros.

That eGlobal listing has changed slightly since I first looked. They've removed the text I saw that explicitly stated it had band 20, now it only lists it in the specs, though there they only list frequencies, not band numbers. So I'm more dubious than when I first saw it.
The Wanda mobile ad seems genuine too and they do seem to have a better reputation, but again I wouldn't want to be the first to try it. I'd wait until others have confirmed. Most of the big Ali sellers are OK, you just have to pay attention to what you're looking at. They may lists both names in the title, to make sure you hit the listing no matter what you search, but they are normally up front in the description as to what they are selling. You just need to remember the distinction between Global Version and Global ROM in the listings.
It's interesting that none of the Ali sellers are selling the 8/256GB global version of the Mi 9T Pro, it looks like they all have the EU versions, from what I can see from a quick search. So this does cast more doubt on what eGlobal and Wanda are actually selling.
Indeed this is why its been so confusing... Didnt help at all how Xiaomi fractured the distrobution and models... They really fooked this one up i think both in marketing and in handling and distribution.

Yes because sellers never lie do they... ive already seen tons of K20 pros with "global rom hacked flashes" being sold as Mi9t pros...
And to be honest paypals guarantee are never perfect... Ive had cases before when ive been missold things. And paypal sided with the seller. Even when I had unsumountable proof... Paypal could easily see it as "well you got a phone didnt you?"
Im sorry no random sellers on ebay particularly Chinese based ones are a safe bet.
But if there is a list of trusted sellers... or sellers who have been proven to send the correct phone... Why dont we make a list?
Sam why not list the sellers name here as well as the others who have found trust worthy sellers...?

A k20 pro with dodgy software would read as a mi9 t pro that is correct but it would definitely not have band 20 and a couple of other bands because in the china k20 models those bands are permanently locked and cant be unlocked through software. Plus the IMEI database would see the correct model as a k20 instead of a MI9t Pro. Just check the sellers reputation feedback etc and save a bit of money its not that big a deal not all chinese sellers are unscrupulous.
