Custom Rom firmware - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hey there,
I am a kate user and I wanna get into custom roms on this device. I ve found out that I have to flash the MIUI firmware made for this device specifically once I flash a custom rom. Does extracting the firmware out of MIUI and using it for the custom rom come with any legal problems. If so, are there ROMs for which I dont need to that?

You will need to research the rom you want to install and instructions of what firmware to use is usually given in threads.
As for extracting firmware, others have already done it without legal issues.

^^^ Get the latest firmware (or version required) in flashable zip format from above thread.

Which is the best TWRP for Xiaomi roms n how to go about it.

So i just unlocked my bootloader officially, i had a question on TWRP and root. im on the SD version RN3
Which is the best TWRP to flash ? The official 3.0.2 or the modified Cofface 3.0.0
If i use the Cofface one , the latest do i still need to use the universal boot patcher ? ( i only intend to stick to xiaomi roms, mostly china or global dev or the xiaomi.eu roms)
I will then flash supersu to root
To update each rom OTA , i will need to unroot , flash OTA via updater app or via normal update received from OS , then flash supersu again?
Many guides state that if u use the latest Cofface one nothing else is needed when flashing miui based roms, some say the universal flasher is needed, hence was confused n thought id ask here.

I think best choice is cofface twrp in your situation
Nothing is needed when you flash miui based roms because you unlocked officially. Universal boot patcher is for people who unlocked unofficially

Firmware is the operating system and underlying software on your device. You can use official firmware, modded or custom stock firmware, custom ROMs, etc. If your on official global firmware it should receive over the air updates, with custom or modded firmwares you usually have to download them and flash (install) them using a custom recovery called TWRP.
For xiaomi devices there is the Chinese (stock) firmware/ROM which is specifically for the Chinese market. There is global (stock) firmware which is made for markets or regions outside of China and has Google play services installed.
People like to use custom ROMs like lineage OS that is more like stock/vanilla android that you would find on a nexus/pixel device. It has less apps/bloat installed and is usually considered faster/ more lightweight and more easily customisable.
Any more questions just ask.

Redmi note 4x (SD) Help Guide for flashing from stock MIUI to custom pie rom?

Hi everyone, I want to use a Pie based ROM. Now I am using stock MIUI 9.6 Global bootloader unlocked. What would be the best procedure to flash a pie based ROM? And can I come back to MIUI if I want? What am I going to sacrifice if I flash treble ROM? I know It's a lot of questions but please try to answer it. Thanks in advance ?

If you have an unlocked bootloader, it's going to be easy. Install TWRP or OrangeFox Recovery. You will get the instructions in the respective pages of XDA. Then, take a complete backup of all partitions using TWRP/OrangeFox, back up the apps using Titanium Backup, and then get a ROM of your liking, and install it.
You are not going to sacrifice anything if you flash a treble ROM. You can revert to MIUI 10 at any point.
But do keep in mind that Android Pie ROMs are quite new and might have a bug or two.
Unlock Bootloader first
Flash twrp
Flash cusrom
Flash GApps
Flash Magisk (if you want to root)
Reboot

The posts above me has mentioned the method to flash custom treble ROM. In case you find any difficulty in flashing it, you can PM me. The procedure they mentioned are simple enough and the steps are user friendly. Take a recovery backup once you flash your custom ROM. You can come back to MIUI anytime you want.
I had flashed ROMs for various versions including Treble ROMs. In regards to selection of treble roms, you find whichever customisation features and options you like and select them.
I find MIUI to be stable enough for daily use. In case you are a flashaholic like me then you can try all the custom ROMs and check which is stable enough for your use.
I faced a major difficulty of signal instability with custom ROMs. Fyi I am in India and the network is JIO. I found too many blank spots and lesser signal quality. Apart from that the ROMs are fluid and fast enough.

Firmware before ROM?

Hi there! I'm not very fond of MiUi ROMs so I didn't even touch my device for three days so that I could instantly unlock bootloader and flash Lineage OS. The thing is I'm curious whether or not should I flash MiUi Firmware. There is a script which gets the latest firmware package (50 mb) as a flashable zip. A few weeks ago I flashed in this order:
1) Latest mido firmware
2) Latest Lineage OS rom
3) Latest Magisk zip
4) Custom kernel
My device is as good as always but flashing miui firmware is necessary? Will it give better stability or could I just ignore it if I want to update my os? Does Aosp based rom flash it's own firmware so it makes virtually pointless to flash miui firmware before the whole process?

Global to Indian Rom

Hey guys.
I have unlocked my phone and rooted it with orangefox and magisk.
Now I want miui dialer and messages app.I have heard that indian rom have those apps.
I want to ask if I can flash Indian rom (recovery rom) on my device using orangefox recovery?
Or i have to use fastboot rom only?
Thanks
now you can install almost any ROM on your phone as long as it is in zip format. Indian is for recovery there is . unfortunately you did not write what kind of phone you have (since the theme is combined for several devices).
pay attention also to xiaomi.eu.
