Disconnect Pro now working on Note 8 - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Just a heads up that Disconnect and Disconnect Pro have been updated and now work on the Note 8. I've been using it for a few hours and had no problems. More info can be found in the Reddit thread from earlier today here.

Yes, there's a free version on the Galaxy Apps Store, posting the apk to the paid version is illegal.

Just got it, any battery drain?

The free version is only an ad blocker for the "Samsung Internet Browser" only. The Pro version blocks ads system wide. No issues with battery here.

This app is amazing blocks apps system wide. Best £20 I have spent well worth it

I had the pro version for free as a special offer on galacy apps for my s7 edge but when I moved to the note 8 it didnt work and i uninstalled the app. I wanted to install agaim bit haf to pay the 22 eur to have it back. As i restored the note to factory settings and restired all my apps from samsung cloud, i managed to restore disconnect pro as well and just updated from Galaxy apps. No charge!
Hope this helps some of you.

I do have PIA vpn and someone mentioned Disconnect Pro is based on Knox. Is it ok to run both? Or Disconnect suffice? Reason I asked after I head over to their website and it says VPN so yeah I am confused here lol.

Is it like Adaway? And no problem using my own VPN and Disconnect althogether? Perhaps maybe Data consuming wise(random question popping on head)

Yes it is working. Thanks bud. Worth the money

It's not like adaway. It would be better if you get info from there website. It blocks ad trackers. In my opinion it does a great job of stopping ads coming through and no permanent notification showing all the time. Also disconnect pro uses Knox not vpn

I wanted to wait before responding to make sure there weren't any issues that popped up later. I'm happy to say that Disconnect Pro is working well. No battery drain (Knox based), you should be able to use a VPN with it.
If you bought it or got it for free with the S7Edge, just make sure you're signed into the Galaxy Apps Store with the same account and you won't have to pay. The button will have a price, but it won't ask for any verification and will skip directly to installing.

Obvious question from somebody not well-versed with Knox yet:
If I root my Exynos Note8 variant, which trips Knox, does this still work?
Will the Samsung App store still work?
Can I sideload?
Thanks for any tips!

I tried side loading it on my N950F which has Knox tripped and is running the Renovate ROM. It installed. There was a three step process to initialize it. On the second step, it hung. I'm going to contact the developer and see what they recommend.

it works

No, you will require the pre-compiled ad-free YouTube app for that or YouTube Vanced, all available via XDA.

Rooted, any suggestions?

It's been 2 years since I've rooted my last device. I'm a bit out of the loop with rooting. So what's your guys opinions on some good rooted apps?
Maybe there's some good apps for cosmetic changes? I've tried a few launchers, but they all feel very fake and tacky.
Of course I should learn how to use Titanium backup, I'd say that is a pretty common apps that rooted users use, eh?
Thanks ahead of time!

My favorite is blackmart. Tons of paid apps for free. Just google it and you can find their homepage to download it from. Other than that I usually only root to get free tethering but I found a way to get that without rooting this time so looks like I'll be holding off until we have some stable ROM's.
Thread moved to proper forum.

Yup. Not sure about YouTube (I think you need Xposed for that) but definitely Ads that appear all around some apps. In certain apps, the Ads totally disappear cleanly but in others they leave a black bar behind. That's depending on how the apps are designed.

Last time I checked out Cydia, it was for downloading paid apps for free. Correct me if I'm wrong.
However, Xposed is not for that. It's for making specific customizations to your ROM, as if it were cooked right into it. You need Xposed framework and specific modules for it to work.
Also, you're right about Samsung devices not being supported yet (work in progress).

i was searching around xda and found this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/general/lollipop-hotspot-root-flashing-t3048163 ... follow the steps and you can unlock the native tethering app that comes in the settings of android. i have the unlimited everything plan with sprint so i have unlimited, never metered data. and with this workaround, i dont even have to root my phone to get free tethering, which i sorely need. i use on average 75gb of data a month so there is no way im ever leaving this plan lol

Aw man that sucks. I had to leave ATT because even though i was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, they would start metering me after 3gbs and i just couldnt stand it.
Ya they are being sued by FCC, lets see what happens, they start throttling at 5gig these days, but would surprise me if they did it at 3gig, they are not transparent at all

Pop up ads

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question already (unfortunately) but here goes:
Is there any way to prevent the constant pop-up ads? Any software that doesn't require root or any program that I *might* be able to disable (using Package Disabler)
to prevent these damn things from showing up? Almost makes it worthwhile to buy an unlocked phone....
Mods, sorry if this isn't the correct forum for this question.

The ones that appear with almost every app that you use on the phone. I've tried AD Blocker and it works for very few apps.
I miss the days of a rooted phone and Ad-away. Never had these pop-ups back then...oh, well...next time I WILL buy an unlocked
phone!!
I use Ad-Guard.. It works on rooted and non rooted. I used to use it on my last two rooted phones but it works good for this phone that not rooted. It doesn't block app ads so much as it blocks browser webpage ads BIG time.

BK Disabler bloatware safe way (Discussion)

I have not seen any discussion or guide on which bloatware must be safely to disabled in this aplicación .
the idea is to make a list on which you can disable without damaging the system.
leave your comment if you have already used this application or another one that can help make a guide for all
T-mobile
Verizon
AT&T
Sprint
Yes this would be helpful surely.
Attached is the exported list of BK Disabler. Notice that it may contain apps that other people may want like chrome (I use firefox), email (I use nine mail), edge widget, fingerprint/iris services etc.
I disabled these yesterday and have no issues so far (SM-N950U)

Just one advice, if you do not use NFC and think in disabling it, DO NOT DO IT! if you disable NFC, wireless charge will stop working
If you want to use another contacts app... Google's, for example... do not disable the Samsung contacts app. It'll take the phone dialer with it.

Don't know about blocking specifically for YouTube, but Disconnect Pro ($25 paid app on Galaxy Apps Store), is a rootless ad-blocker. Don't think it blocked ads in YouTube, but it does everywhere else.
I use an app called blokada

and DisconnetPro
Works great and no adds with the exception of youtube which only show minimal ads for me

I am quite surprised that no one has mentioned adguard. It is a VPN based ad blocking app that works extremely well. Yes, root is not required but to get the best features you need to subscribe to their premium service.
There is a XDA thread on the product.

I dunno about the basic version of Adguard, but I always found the premium version to be a large battery drain.
I'm going to try Blokada or SABS for the S9+, SABS sounds like the preferred solution except you have to renew the Samsung key every 90 days.
Is there a trick to getting disconnect pro to work with the s9+? I just upgraded from the s7edge. DP worked amazingly well on that device and I'd like to get it setup on my new phone.
I was able to download it but am not sure 9 of howto setup knox..
DNS66 is pretty good, and open source. It uses a loopback VPN and the usual filter lists.
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.jak_linux.dns66/
It's bascially fire-and-forget, which is nice.
Complete it with the CLoudFlare DNS (1.1.1.1) and you're set.
I'm using sabs to block general ads, whereas for YouTube, I'd recommend that you use YouTube Vanced, it's basically a modified YouTube app without any ads on it and provides some customizations for your YouTube app. The good thing is it's usable for non rooted devices

Tab S3 emtremely lag issue

I got tab s3 days ago. It ran android 9 but since it was so laggy I decided to go back to Oreo but it does not seem to help. It is even laggy when I pull down the status bar, like a phone with 2gb of ram in 2019. I tried a hard reset, revert back to Oreo and wipe /cache in default recovery but nothing helps. Any suggestions for me guys I don't know what's happening with my tablet. Plus that Knox counter has not been tripped yet, Antutu score is 136594 (I find it normal) and it's still water-resistant. Thank you
Yes, this tablet lags as hell. I sold it due to this problem
It's like that since the Pie update. I'm considering a rollback or perhaps a custom ROM if available. Some research must be done. Very disappointing. :/

Interesting, my tab s3 lags a lot too. I originally got this for study (Paramedic school) and for jogging with. Hasn't quite worked out for me yet, but I'm hoping sai444's input will help here. Maybe a rollback too? Still have to research what Galaxy labs an d app booster are lol.
hmmmm, are you sure (as of Nov 2019) that this isn't just the built in device care? My device care says 100% optimised but I know that to be a bit false. Sure the device is relatively healthy but like this title suggests it behaves more like a device with 2GB. I guess a factory reset (again) and just limit the apps I use.
I installed Galaxy Labs from APK Mirror to my Tab S3 and then tried clicking on App Booster. It says the content is not compatible with my tablet. The same message is displayed when I tried the other options.
Anyone else encounter this?

Please could you detail the process using titaniumB? My Tab S3 constantly freezes/lags and returns "System UI is not responding-Close or wait (as options)". It's so frustrating.
What apps are considered bloatware??
Well, in TB you have the option to froze any app, if something is broken you can unfroze.
There are others apps that can do this too.
You can search for lists in the internet of bloatware in samsung devices, but you can start searching in the TB for samsung, then all the samsung stuff will be shown, then you can start freezing.
Freeze a few things(try to search what that package is) then restart. If something is wrong unfroze some, reboot and check.
It takes time.
