Apologies if this has been posted somewhere else. I've tried searching the forum but it's so vast I've not been able to find an answer.
I have an un-rooted Galaxy S3 which I've just upgraded to Android 4.3. I was hoping to be able to use Dashclock to have lockscreen widgets enabled along with the pattern protection I use. However, it seems that Samsung have disabled the ability to have multiple lockscreens and add other widgets to it.
Is there any way around this without rooting my device, which I really don't want to do?
Thanks in advance.

Hi! I found that in order to get lock screen widgets to work on a Galaxy S3 you need to unprotect your lock screen by selecting SWIPE as the security screen lock (pattern, password, or PIN protection will disable third party lock screens.) Once you have set the security screen lock to SWIPE you will see the options for third party lock screen widgets.
It is a real shame that Samsung is restricting us from using third party lock screen widgets while using a true security screen lock option.
I hope that this helps.

Well, can you then tell me how to do it? Because as soon as I use any security screen lock other than swipe, all lock screen widgets options disappear and swiping from the left on the lock screen stops working too, so no widgets can be added. Just in case, I am using the TMO flavor of the Galaxy S3.
Hello,
I had tried a password, then I switched it to PIN. I realize I don't really want a lock at all but the top option to disable it is greyed out - my only three choices seem to be to switch between PIN, password and patten. I'm guessing there is another place to disable it but I can't find it.
Thanks

Yes - that is the problem the top selection - NONE is greyed out. I can only select between pattern, pin and password.
ALL items but the bottom 3 choices on that screen are greyed out.

You have an application installed that requires a password.
Maybe you have an exchange account and the policies are set, something.
I can disable the password on my phone with no issues.

Thanks - it was foxfi that made me enable the screen lock so I uninstalled foxfi but I still can't disable it.

Go into "Settings"
Then "Security"
Then "Phone Administrators"
Then you will need to deactivate "Foxfi" as a device admin, by selecting it then deactivating it.
If that doesn't work, I'm at a losss.

Thanks - I looked there - I have email - which has always been there and android device manager.
It turns out it was indeed foxfi. I went to security - clear credentials and it worked!!
I think it is pointless to press the home button (maybe a few times) for the finger print verification. THEN I have to swipe my finger??? really? Seems redundant. I've looked in all the settings. Is there really no way to turn the swipe off?

Do you mean the swipe to unlock you would use for the lockscreen if you didn't want any pin security?
I don't have my Edge yet to check, but in all the videos I saw it unlocks as soon as it recognises your finger. Have you set Fingerprint as the "screen lock type" in "lock screen and security"? I think it is possible to use the fingerprint for paypal etc while using a traditional screen slide-to-unlock.

No, I have fingerprint security on. So you press the home button, it verifies you. Then it takes you to the lock screen where now you have to swipe. It should just take me to the launcher. ready for what I want to do. Why should I have to then swipe the screen???

I agree, but what you are describing isn't what reviewers are showing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kc4NgYS1rs
This is what made me think "screen lock type" may still be swipe, and it may just be authenticating your fingerprint for use other than the lock screen, such as paypal.
The only other thing I can think is something is enforcing the security, might be worth checking if any software is set as a device administrator. Exchange email can enforce security settings too.
Otherwise we will have to wait for someone with an edge to double check for you.

Does not work like in the video for me. I have to swipe after the fingerprint. Or if it has been authenticated very recent I power on and just swipe.

Not sure if maybe you set something up different than I did. But I go from fingerprint to launcher. No swiping or any extra steps.

Can you check your trusted agents on other security options?
I'd like to verify if it goes straight to launcher when off and prompts for the additional swipe when on.
Settings -> lock screen and security -> other security -> trust agents.

That worked! thanks.
That's strange. I have smart lock enabled, but when I unlock with fingerprint it takes me straight to the home screen. Only when I'm connected to a trusted device do I have to swipe to unlock.
I changed my screen lock timeout..
Just needed to go to secure lock settings --> secured lock time
Set to immediately.

Agreed. If you're phone isn't actually locked. It goes to the splash./lockscreen where you have to swipe to go to launcher. If the device is locked(fingerprint locked) then unlocking will go straight to launcher.

Yeah seems stupid to me -- so now when I am home I have to swipe when I am used to pressing the fingerprint scanner anywhere else ... should just go to home page. I just turned it off so its always fingerprint
i have a iphone5S on freedompop, you just pay for the phone and get you free 200 talks, 200 texts, and 1GB data free every month without monthly fee.
on iphone5S screen, it showing "slide to unlock".
you can slide to unlock or just put your thumb on fingerprint scanner and it automatically unlock.
on samsung s6 edge, when it showing "swipe to unlock", you must swipe to unlock, it wont unlock if you put thumb on fingerprint scanner.

Search for secure lock settings, it's a setting that you can set a timeout period before requiring fingerprint scan..or make it always require fingerprint..

It really is annoying! I think Samsung's fingerprint scan does not integrate well with Android's SmartLock features.
The only solution for is to disable all SmartLock features to avoid this trouble.

it works nice. Thanks a lot.
also thanks to @JackSparrow17
1. first add your finger which is getting error.
(if already added then skip this 1 no.)
2. go to lock screen settings in settings
3. desable lock screen lock.
4. again come in lock screen settings and set pattern or pin . now you will be get a screen for fingerprint.
add finger and enjoy.
