Hello i am using marshmallow in motog3 16 gb varient.
My phone is rooted from very beginning, with stock rom.
Currently I'm using magisk.
Please help in understand
I have 16 gb varient in which
4.08 gb is Android OS
11.92 gb is available space
8.11. Gb. is used space
3.82 gb. is free space
Buy when i used DiskUsage i found
2.94 gb used by apps
2.04 gb = media
3.13. gb = *system data*
I couldn't understand this system data
As per my knowledge
From 16 gb = 4.08 gb used by Android OS , apps and media are ok but how do i get rid of this system data.
I checked everything there's no backup files , or log files , cleared all cache , individually checked space of each folder in root resulting in more confusion.
One by one uninstalled big apps buy there was no change in system data size, only app size was decreasing. Please now i need some expert advice.
Help!!
Thanks
Regards.

Hello,
I have a atrix orange FR.
For many reason i 'm rooted my phone, with the latest version of gingerbreak apk.
After this operation my internal SD (aka phone memory) size is 10,71 Go (total of amount), but the phone have a 16 Go Int_SD at the origins ???
For resolve thise i try :
- use a android tools (format etc)
- tested a android market apk
- Flash the phone with SPB 2.1.1
No issues my phone have just 10, 71 Go...
Any people have this probleme, how to resolve it ?
Many thanks
Regards

This has nothing to do with Gingerbreak. We all have this amount useable out of the 16GB. The rest is reserved for system files, etc.
Gingerbreak may have wiped your internal sdcard as it does this to most phones...............only the 10+GB you see there though.
hi, thanks for your response.
If i understand the total amount 10,71 Go is the same for all user rooted or not, stock rom or not, it's possible i have not controlled this point on first use.
For gingerbreak wipe i have see that, and it's not a confusion for me, just i think gingerbreak modificated the international SD partitionnement 16 Go to 10go for any reason.
but your post say this a amount available for all ATrix (10,71 Go), you confirm that ?
PS: if are correct (and the spec confirm this way ) the system android + motorolla tool connexion use 6 Gb of 16 Go --> end user stockage 10,71 Go
There may be space kept aside for file swapping, updates, etc. Sorry, but I am not sure exactly how this space is utilized.
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app
ok, thanks, the repartition of memory use is minor for me, i think you are right file swap system etc, apps...
But the amount approximatively 6 Go is strong Android run with the constructor addon etx approximatively 512 Mo, if have large swap 300 Mo and 1 Go for apps (this is just a concept view) only 2 Go used ....
2gb for /data 650mb for /cache 330mb /system plus the other partitions for webtop etc and you'll find the missing few gb easy enough

Hi,
I'm new to the forums and I'm trying to figure something out about freeing up memory for my low memory smartphone .
Things I'm familiar with are:
app 2 SD, using titanium backup to move apps to sd, using root explorer to delete stock apps, clear dalvik cache. I also noticed that each time u place an app to the SD, there is still a part that is placed on the internal memory.
I like having lots of apps so I'm looking for all possible ways to free up memory. Right now I have about 24MB free space. At 18-19MB it starts giving the low memory warning.
Since the custom rom I'm using, uses quite some space and because I ran out of options to get more space I tried something new:
removing files from the system folder
I used root explorer to delete:
ringtones I'm not using, startup & shutdown sound, T9 languages I'm never gonna use, log files (crash dump)
Root explorer shows I got 41 MB free memory (so I deleted about 17 MB of system files I'm not using anyway)
But when I looked at how much free internal space inside the settings menu, I noticed the value didn't change (24MB)! .
So if I install about 5 MB of apps it's gonna give me the low memory warning again.
I tried rebooting: doesnt change a thing.
I tried clearing dalvik cache: it seemed to work for a moment. The menu showed I have 36 MB of free space. But then as soon as I changed a file it popped back to 24MB
It's like the phone doesnt know there is free space he can use
Does anyone got a solution for this weird problem?
ps: my specs

Check where most of the space is used at, try clearing cache+dalvik in recovery and see if it improves. What is your phone's max Storage amount[avail for apps]

I got DiskUsage and it pretty much tells me the same as root explorer.
When I go into /system it shows I got 41,6 MB free space (& 10,6 MB System data),
but strangely enough when I go into /data it shows I got 23,9 MB free space & (38,7 MB system data).
I wrote down what Diskusage shows with the most important subfolders:
App storage (3 dirs):
Data (192,4MiB)
> 43.1 MiB Applications
> 125.5 MiB System Data
> 23.9 MiB Free space
[Root required] > /Data (24 dirs)

> 23.9 Mib

/system (209 Mib)

I'll try clearing dalvick once more but this time I'll clear cache too to see if that works, as you said.
by the way, Ace42 , thanks for the quick reply.
But I tried what you said and it didn't change much. I'm thinking there's a cap/maximum for the amount of storage that can be used for apps.
Or maybe there is a mimimum amount of space that is reserved for system files or system resources.
I don't know..

Most of the phone's ROM space is for /system , from what I see the /data partition is pretty much 200MB. Dalvik/cache gets recreated, and there's a folder for all installed apps[sytem/user] in the dalvik folder[data/dalvik-cache] . You have to lower the amount of apps you use, delete system apps that aren't needed and remove their folder from /data/data & data/dalvik-cache. Or use a ROM that's much smaller, and you'll see more space. The installed apps are using a minor amount of space, so that's not an issue really.
oh forgot to mention that
/system dir = 209 Mib.
I edited it in the post.
How come it's larger than /data or app storage (192,4MiB) :s ?
Can I move the free space to the other folder (or is the correct term partition here)?

Because it contains important system files, and they require a lot of space.
It needs to have the most space compared to anything, and /cache is is normally big too since it also can be used to hold OTA's, when given out.

So is there no way to release the +15MiB I deleted from the system directory? And give it to /data?
Thanks for the info by the way
Hello , i have installed a new rom on my phone. With the old rom i had all the apps installed on the phone memory.
Now with the new rom i have made before to install wiche chace and delete user files , but the problem is that my phone told me that it's used about 8gb from the phone memory , but when i look with propertis on all the files , it's maximum 1.5gb used from the memory.
Where is the different space ? What i have to do to have the space free again ?

I have a Kenzo, 16GB + 2GB RAM variant.
While using ES File Explorer, it showed that I have a total of 10.26 GB internal memory, so where did the remaining 5-6 GB went ?
Maybe this is a noob question but I am worried about this

It's occupied by MIUI 8 operating system.. So the user available space is only 10.26gb.

I have installed CM14.1 + Radon 3.0.1 with clean flash
Will this issue still persist ?
You won't see a full 16GB for your use, if that's what you're thinking. Some has to be for the OS. I think with CM14, you end up with a maybe 11-12GB free, but your OS and other apps have to take up some space.
Simple solution, buy a SD card and use it as a internal storage, but be aware that the (un)official CM 14.1 by TheStrix has currently a bug with this feature
I have a stock Android 6.0 tablet iBall Slide 4G. When I reset the device, it has 10 GB free out of 16 GB total. I have less than 10 apps on it other than stock Google apps. The problem is that as apps get updated, it keeps consuimg internal storage to such an extend that within a month it consumes total 10 GB free internal storage. Even if I clean cache etc. using clean master app, it does not clear more than 200-300 MB and internal storage is full. I have other Android 6.0 phones like CoolPad Note 5 etc. that have 16 GB internal storage but its memory usage does not exceed more than 1-2 GB even after updating all apps through out the year.
Because of my above problem in my tablet, I have to reset my tablet every month. Please suggest a solution.

Disable automatic Updates from play store.
And only install those updates which are necessary or critical to the apps.
To disable automatic updates
>Goto play store.
>Goto settings from sidebar.
>There will be a option of 'auto update apps', open this
option and select 'do not auto update apps'.
Hit thanks if helped.

I have reeder tab it makes log files. One of them is 35 mb and a month later it makes 100 of them. Your problem could be something like this. I think you should analyze storage. With this you can see which file takes how many storage. To do that I recommend es file exporer. Install es file explorer (recommend v4.0.2 from apkmirror.com) press navigate button choose sd card analyst. If this not work no big files go to settings apps check youtube, facebook, instagram cache some cleaner apps cant detect their cache. Clear them manualy.
Hope these work for you
