Custom fonts? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Is there a way to make your own APK with a custom font? The ones on LGs ecosystem are all for 12 year old girls for the most part. I'd love to install Google Product Sans..

There is one person in play store who is able to create apk which directly installs font without the need of lg smartworld crap.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.edge
Read description and u will find JIOgougu font apk which works perfectly for LG framework. I don't know how that guy did it but If we know the way, we can start making our own custom fonts for unrooted v30/v20/G6/G5.
Sorry for Necro but I need Google product sans for my v20 too. And I really hope someone figures out how to make LG compatible font packages in apks

That's incorrect. All he did was take an existing font from smartworld and uploaded it to drive and told people to install it.
He says it's his but I assure you it isn't. That guy is notorious for stealing other people's work and calling it his own. In fact all his threads on xda were locked due to this and he had several themes removed from Google Play that were littered with my code that he stole lol!
Now the real issue with making an LG font APK is the .dat file inside it. That file can be tinkered with via hex editor and it's really the brains of the operation. I've come very close to getting a font to work but the best I've managed was getting it to install. Unfortunately it didn't show up in the list of selectable fonts. So there's something finicky going on. I've asked the smartworld theme team for access to their font ask but I doubt they'll send me it. Back in September I had a falling out with them but recently tried to rekindle it so we shall see. I'm sure you all have noticed that the themes on smartworld are complete crap. My themes were all on there until September where said falling out occured

LG doesnt even remotely have a guide to make themes / fonts or all those smartworld things. So many crap fonts and themes, glittery, sparkly, girly stuff that makes me almost puke.
I'm traveling atm, but will look into the decompiled apk once I'm home. All that could go bad is I won't get anything out of it.
Sorry to hear that LG didn't even get us with the method on reverse engineering the font packages or actually sources for creating fonts. I have Claro V20 H910PR which doesn't come with LG Smartworld and smartworld doesn't even run on it. The website outright says that my device isn't LG device.

Well no they don't but never stopped me! I made my own source to build themes. Actually as crazy as it sounds I made and released one without even having the phone when the V20 came out. I had to wait until I had the money to buy it to even try my own themes! But yes feel free to play with a font APK. I didn't exactly spend tons of time playing with theme. The main thing is that it has to be a ttf font file and the actual name of the ttf file when you open it needs to jive with the .dat file. I just didn't have the patience to stick with it and figure it out.

How did you manage that? I've been trying to make my own theme, but no luck so far. It's hard to find any info about any LG stuff, and any info there is is all in Korean
Edit: Oh, I just realized who you are. I actually use your Pixel 2 theme!

I have an LG V40. I have edited the "JIOgougu" font apk to add my custom font. The apk installs but I don't see my font in settings list to select it. Do you have any idea how to edit the apk to show the font?

You simply cannot. They're encrypted in the .dat file. You can try to edit the .dat but it won't work. I believe they also must be signed with the lg font tool which is not available.

Where is Helvetica S .ttf?

Good morning.
I use Helvetica S font and want to use it in Jotre calendar (an excellent calendar by the way, give it a whirl if you haven't tried it).
I've dug deep with Root Explorer and can't find the .ttf anywhere, only the other bundled fonts (default and Rehotalko). I've got the apk, but obviously I can't "install" that into Jotre.
Am I missing something? Can it be done? I know Helvetica isn't a "free" font, but I thought that the .ttf must be there somewhere.
As always thanks for any assistance.
Maybe try nabbing it from here or grabbing it from your OS install.
or maybe try using apktools to rip open the apk and see if theres a tff in it
Thanks and good morning veyka, all well?
Way too early for adk and cmd, will try the tool in about 5 coffees time..
I'd seen those fonts, and many others, all the freebies are a bit meh, IMO.
I'll see how I go with my tool (fnurr), if it doesn't work I'll - grudgingly - open my wallet.

More googling..
Edit - Just had a thought - I'm not being illegal here am I? Copying an installed, bundled font to another app is OK?

[Q] Live Wallpaper help

Hello folks
I want to create live wallpapers for sale on the android market. I found a custom creator script and a lwp creator software that does this but I don't think it signs them. Now I am not sure if those could be sold on the market or not. I am still very new to android.
At the moment I am trying to start small, something simple like a looped animation sequence and make that a live wallpaper...just plain, with no settings. So what would be a good way to approach this mission ?
You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739512. You could even try to make them on your phone with this: http://android.ownskin.com/livewallpaper.
Can I sell the apk that I get from custom creator or is there something I need to do before I upload it.

Make sure it's signed.
That's all ? Man thats simple. Here I was readying myself thinking I'm gonna need to brush up my old coding skills. Very nice. Thanks guy.
I would like to pack 2 live wallpapers in one apk. Is this possible ?
No, it's not unless you make an app which will allow selection of whichever one the user wants.
That sucks. I figured I'd provide 2 wallpapers as a pack for $0.99 because they are simple with no settings. There is no other way ?
I suppose I'll start with single ones and then eventually make an app.
Ok so I did some experiments, first apk was 80mb, second was 40mb and the newest one is like 400kb only. But it lags a lot. How do I optimize ?

Have you tried zipaligning them? See here: http://developer.android.com/resources/articles/zipalign.html.
I am just beginning installing eclipse and the steps that follow. I am still not sure how to open the apk to view what the code is. I was hoping I could see this code and then implement it in eclipse using a fresh project. Main thing I want to find out is how the image sequence loading is implemented. I guess I will post back here in a few days.
Should I code this in ICS or get the sdk files for 2.1 and do it on that ?

It depends on what you want. If you only want ICS (and later android versions to come) devices to support your wallpapers, then you can go ahead and code it in ICS. If you want a wider range of support (for now), then your 2nd option is best.
Well ideal case would be its backwards compatible. I've been reading and says ics has new api's...but I'm hoping the wallpaper and related services are backwards compatible. Its okay if its not, I get to learn at least.

It sure does, but most of them are not backward compatible. Notice only a few (approximately 3) apps built for ICS worked on Gingerbread so the chance is very small that they will support backward compatibility. They may be the same services, etc., but many will still require the ICS+ framework.
Interesting...so that means its safer to start from 2.1 for more than just backwards compatibility reasons. I just tried to grab api7 in sdk manager and it gave me error for file not found. Should I do 2.3.3 ?
Fixed it, 2.1 ready to go. Thanks.

yes you are right but most of the posts and topics look nice, neat and clean.
and I think something is still better than nothing....
what do you say?
compared to the browser....you'd have to argue the need for this, it was designed for the phone (GS3) and all that's been done is ported from there. If they developer made a bespoke tablet version then it'd be nice. but hey, thats my beef with ICS at the moment, many apps are stretched and look wrong
I like it alot.... Thanks for sharing,I hadn't seen the other thread so glad to have the app on my og evo and touchpad

I was working on it.... Never got it right, as it appears I was only able to change the UI fonts. The article fonts themselves appear to be set remotely and just displayed locally. So it didn't even fix the biggest issue with the fonts which is in the articles themselves. It only fixed the UI and header fonts. I was going to post the APK anyway, but I found a force close error when trying to add new feeds, so that made things not so nice. Add to that the fact that for some reason, the APK wasn't installable unless I re-signed it, that makes it difficult to switch between versions without uninstalling/reinstalling, I decided not to post the modified APK.
If a developer type wants, I can send the modified APK directly. I'm not going to post it here because it's A) not stable and B) didn't achieve the intended purpose anyway, and C) I don't want to have to support something that's broken/unfinished.
Anyone that knows how to decompile/recompile an APK can do the same thing I did. All I did was reduce the font sizes in the XML layout and values files. As I said though, that didn't have any effect on the actual article content, which appeared to be defined remotely.

Thin fonts - WP 7.8 ROMs

Hi all,
didi you notice that every WP 7.8 ROM has too thin fonts in same areas? Let's say that I've noticed few - 3G and the rest icons next to the network level, live icon new message, mail notification, in-mail text, when writing a text message....etc.
Is it a bug or standard? I ask because for me, as a designer by profession, it doesn't look good at all - it looks ike a mistake..

I have seen that thread and tried to do it, but fonts somehow don't get replaced... I have no problem with the characters, only with thckness of the particular parts of UI, as I stated above.
EDIT: I found original WP7 Segoe fonts and replaced them all with WP Device Manager.
Thanks!
Can you tell us how you did that please?

Sorry,
I didn't see any new questions 'till now. There's a thread link few posts up http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898893 and it explains what fonts you need to change. If you have ever instaled (and I'm sure you did) WP SDK Tools, there are all original WP fonts installed with it on your PC. Just extract needeed fonts from post above to some other location (temp) on your PC and install Windows phone device manager, gain acces to your phone, open windows directory on your phone, and just upload fonts to your phone. For me, sometimes it works, sometimes not, don't know why. Ypu can then refresh the view in device manager and see if your fonts (WP Segoe...) updated - if they have the date you transfered them to the phone.
If they do overwrite your device's crooked fonts, just disconnect, reboot phone (soft) and it's done. Even after that I found one more problem, fonts when you are writing message or email are still thinner, but not as much as before. Suppose if you edit segoeui.ttf and segoeub.ttf (bold) there's no visible difference, and that's why message text seems thiner when it should be bold.
Hope this answers your questions.
P.S. I have flashed TGZ's "stock: ROM from 1st October and it doesn't have font problems, but it's not filled with Nokia apps.. suits me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910276

[Discussion] A Themer for Themer

Hello guys.
I have been a part of the Themer Beta team. I guess many of you are too. I think you noticed that we can only export the themes as zip files and in no way publish these to the Play Store to get ratings or proper feedback.
I was thinking about releasing an app (open source) which everyone can use within their themes to publish them to the Play Store (unless the Themer Team makes an official feature like that available).
Any ideas or recommendations as such are welcome.
It is a nice idea for sure. But i would suggest u first talk it out with the themer team if they have any similar plans ...
i think they are working just like mycolorscreen web. Love? button and adding some extra feature like Download. And also link the web acc with android acc so that the theme will automatically download to your phone from web.

I did have a talk with the admin at MCS. He said that all themes are to be sent to him. Its kind of a downer for an app with such capabillties. More people would have participated and published their themes if it had this feature since they would have got a bit of appreciation and feedback from users too.
I found a workaround which we can use to publish the themes to Play Store until its added officially (that is if its ever added).
I'll publish it at night.

Some other would also want to do that. Could you tell us about the workaround?
As the matter of sending themes, there should be an option to publish the theme within the app (something like "Request publishing" that will export and send current theme to MSC Admin via e-mail app).

I have a question, coming I'm sure from a place of profound ignorance, but couldn't people upload the .zips to dropbox and others could download them and put them in the themer folder themselves?

First of all, you have to download themes from the inbuilt browser to use the themes. Even if u put the zip in the exported folder, you can't see the screenshots. You have to apply the theme, export it again, then apply again to see the screenshots. Too much hassle.
Why not just put the zip and screenies in 2 folders of the app which would do everything for you?
And I made this especially for themers who would like to publish themes to the Play Store which is much more convenient IMO. Others can just mail their theme to the admin at MCS to have them hosted privately.
Not sure where to put this since there is no Bugs/Suggestions thread in this section, so I'm putting this here.
@ThemerSupport
A few suggestions if you don't mind.
Add support for custom ROMs since almost every launcher out there has support for this.
Option to publish themes to the Play Store. Its a huge drawback I found for themers who publish to the Store. (The only reason I published a workaround for it since it lacks official support)
Make a Bugs/Suggestions thread.
Great job you all did!
