Is it possible to use Google Assistant (voice) to open up non-Google apps and control some features of the phone like turning on the flashlight or change the brightness of the phone?
If not, does Huawei have it's own assistant / AI for such voice tasks?
You can open and control some features with the assistant on pixels phones not sure it's the same for mate 10.
Yes you can use Google Assistant for that.
Google Assistant is universal, if it can do something on one phone, it can do it on all (except for pixel exclusives)

Description
Talking buddy for your smartphone. Answers questions, performs tasks, notifies.
Speaktoit Assistant is a virtual buddy for your Android device that uses natural language technology to answer questions, find information, launch apps and connect you with various web services, such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and many others.
The Assistant works with your smartphone to get maps, search for news and images, look up weather reports, convert currency and measurements, send email, and much more.
No need to memorize special commands or complex interfaces - simply speak or type in everyday language and the Assistant will understand and respond with what you need.
You can also choose assistant's appearance whether it be pretty blonde or brunette girl, handsome agent or old professor. You can also set up different voices with SVOX or Loquendo TTS.
Compare to Apple Siri, Nuance, Dragon Go, Vlingo, Voice Actions, Voice Search, Wolfram Alpha, Iris, IBM Watson and voice control applications.
This is a beta version - if the assistant doesn't answer some of your questions we will fix it really soon.
Previous release changes:
Dial, text and email people from your contacts!
You can now start the Assistant from the widget
Save your notes in Evetnote
Long tap on Search button to start the Assistant
If you want the Assistant to look more formal, you can set up the microphone image instead of an avatar (Settings > Appearance)

Hello,
I just got the new Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS which has the App Radio functions built in. I have bought ArLiberator and now have full control over my android device. Awesome. One great feature of the AVH-X8500BHS is if you hold down the "home" button on the radio it launches voice control. What this does is open a screen on the radio and then activate the default voice control app on the smartphone.
However, Android is only listing three options to take voice commands: One is Google Search which doesnt even show up in my app list. Instead I want to be able to open Voice Search which opens a Google Now app that actively waits for input.
Is there anyway to tell google to classify Google Voice Search as one of the apps that can be opened?
Anyone have any idea?
Hi everyone!
I found this app that lets you bypass the "Teach the Assistant to recognize your voice" page that renders voice commands useless on non Pixel phones.

I'm keeping my phone on stock for the time being because I don't want to void my warranty in case there's something wrong.
The apps I've bolded I'm guessing can be disabled, or removed by this method https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/ . I'm wondering though when it tells you not available for current user, does that mean the app can still run in the background somehow?

Go to App Permissions and display system apps for each option, remove apps that don't need permissions (it seems that when you do that, then the option to display system apps disappears). I'm assuming that google play doesn't need access to body sensors.

Lol. Well, since $130 is nothing to you, then I'm sure you'll be happy to send me a replacement phone if there's a problem with this one.
Did u ever find the problem? Mine has the same thing, but I'm thinking mine is hacked as I know nothing about phones. But I do want my privacy since I am a grown woman. It's crazy I try to uninstall it and it just goes right back on. I also bought another phone in my friends name and when I get home it starts moving and downloading all this stuff and it wasn't even set up with play store yet. It's to the point I'm going to just smash it. But $1000 is too much to just throw down the drain. Please if anyone knows what could be wrong please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Previously (and I haven't used it in a while), when I held the voice button in my car, I could use voice commands to my phone. Now whenever I try i get the "when its safe first tap the notification then you can use google assistant whilst driving"
The thing is, I don't want to have google assistant running all the time. Is there any way to have it work without turning on google assistant and all the crap that that brings?
