Hey guys and gals, this may sound like an eye rollingly noobish post but honestly ive never had more trouble rooting an android device in my life! so I just got one of these:
https://www.shopandsmile.com.au/collections/android-tablets/products/10-inch-octa-core-3g-tablet
youve probably seen them floating around Aliexpress and the like, not a bad tablet but should go for less than $100 due to build quality, but moving on,
so its a Mediatek MT6580 chipset and the model is BXMC-K107
ive been trying to root this thing all day, I managed to unlock the bootloader with adb, however any attempt to root with any of the programs like kingroot, root genius, iroot etc have all failed, absolutely no luck with any of them, i tried the manual root method but couldnt get nautilus to work with my VM ubuntu install through virtual box, I will try again with a proper installed linux distro rather than vm but I cant see it making much difference.
I also used the main program people use for Mediatek devices (MTK droid tool) however when I open it, I get this error after it reads the tablet:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gdis1ilv8qxccrm/Cap.........................ture.PNG?dl=0
trying to root gives me this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hpvdexxswwyeh33/Capturascsxze.PNG?dl=0
cant create any backups, cant use any program to root, and cannot figure out where to go from here,
any help would be much appreciated!
THANKS!

I can help you get rooted. First you will need to install drivers on your PC so your device can communicate with the root program. Then try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43163569&postcount=7
If that dont work, let me know. You can always use MTK Droid Tools and SP flash tool to pull your stock recovery and port it into a custom recovery that will allow you to flash a simple root.zip
Hope this helps!

Try using this, it installs drivers for many different phones, it may not be the actual manufacturers drivers for your specific device but it will help get your phone talking to your PC:
http://www.snappea.com/
Also - Make sure you are going into settings and turning USB debugging on. You can usually find this under Settings > Developer Options.

Go here and download MTK Droid Tools from first post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160490&styleid=18
Run the program and connect your phone to PC, this tool will tell you lots of info about your phone but the main function is to possibly back up your stock firmware (This is good to have if you plan on trying to flash anything to the phone, this way you will have your stock files to fall back on in case something you flash to the phone does not work.) Once you have MTK Droid Tools running and phone connected, what does it say next to Hardware on the phone info tab please?
I am not sure off top of my head about updating to a higher version of Android but this back up step is REALLY important. It is hard if not impossible to find stock firmware floating around on the net for these chinese clone devices. IF you have stock files backed up you can flash almost anything you want knowing you have a way to restore your phone to working order. IF you look around here on XDA you will see tons of posts by people looking for the stock firmware for their clone phone after soft bricking it playing around. Sadly there is not much help for them unless they find someone with the EXACT same phone and are willing to share their back up (if the next person made one theirselves that is!)

edit
even though my pc now recognises the fact that tere is a spreadtrum phone in my devices list and i managed to root it ok, when i load up mtk droid tools it says "the device isn't revealed, connect or reconnect a cable"
needless to say i tried reconnecting and it didn't change i downloaded the adb drivers from the link under the mtk link but have no idea what to do with them,
appologies for my ignorance in all of this, but like i said in my first post, i have no idea what i'm doing with all this, thanks
paul
pps the hardware version i posted was from the info on my phone
Hello all,
I am a total newbie with mobile technologies, but know my way around a linux-box alright.
I just got a Samsung Rugby Pro through an upgrade at ATT.
My goal is to run Ubuntu touch as my main OS. I know some people think this is a silly aim, but its my money, so for the sake of simplicity, can we just agree that it is a goal?
I have been doing every backflip I can find to root this thing. Or flash it. Or do whatever is necessary to enable fastboot via the linux terminal.
The adb install I have works just fine (i.e. it detects, can restart it, etc). I have tried messing with the 51/71/99 android.rules in udev many, many times. Fastboot will not recognize the device. I have loaded the device into the bootloader screen various ways (via adb, via volumedown+home+power before and after plugging it in) ; no luck.
I figured it may be because the phone isn't rooted. This has led for my current root quest.
Using linux, and not having current access to any other OS's, I haven't been able to use Odin, or any of the other (likely scan) knock-offs. I have heimdall installed, and for the bloody life of me, though it says its working, even when the phone is in boot-loader, it doesn't do anything once the b*stard restarts.
I have tried downloading what feels like a hundered update.zip scrips, cwm.zip's...etc, etc. No luck! Whenever I try to install the update from the SD, it says there is an error in verification. As far as I can tell, there isn't a way to do it during normal operation; not that that would particularly help.
I have also tried a zRoot application, and a host of others...most of which all require root access?
Perhaps this is a simple deficiency in my understanding of this whole process, but there seems to be a bit of a loop of which one is needed first; root or cwm. I am spinning round and round; my cat is looking at my chain smoking funny and my gf says I stink.
So here I come to you all. How the hell's this done? If anyone has successfully rooted the Rugby pro on linux, I would be eternally greatful for the help. If you know how to go all the way to ubuntu-touch, you will have a cat and a lovely lady also eternally greatful.
Please...help.
I have an Azpen A1040, I am fairly new to tablets altogether.
I was trying to use the complete linux installer app to see if I could run Ubuntu on my tablet.
Well, that requires root. I have tried a few things with no success.
But the last one I tried was Vroot, it did NOT root the tablet, but yet, now Vroot is on there and I can not remove it even after doing a Facotry Reset.
I uninstalled Vroot when it didnt work, but then I did a factory reset and noticed there is an icon that looks like the vroot icon but all the text is in chinese.
I dont really need to run linux or root priveleges that bad, but now it bugs me that the vroot app is still there. What is it doing. Is it hurting anything?
Is there an easy way to get rid of it?
The specs of the tablet from the side of the box are
Azpen A1040 10.1" Quad Core Tablet
CPU MT8127 Quad Core Cortex A7
Running Android KitKat 4.4.2
You can find web specs for it at azpenpc.com
I can go in to running apps and do a force stop and disable on the chinese vroot, but I just dont want it to cause spyware or anything else.
Not even sure this is the right forum to post in, but I figure someone will point me in the right direction I hope.
Thanks
Rick (A total tablet newbie) haha

Hi Rick, did you figure out how to root this device? I have been struggling for days trying to find a root utility. Thanks!
I'm not doing what you are attempting but.
I found a couple of potential options. That worked for the limited things I was doing.
Cyanogen rooting appeared to work, though it won't allow installation of custom roms since there currently is no support.
Kingoapp I found on CNet, though I don't have any experience with it, it appeared to successfully root the device.
I would have added links but currenlty it appears I'm not allowed to. Google is your friend.

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum(what a great please btw) and am looking for help on how to flash/root the 101b Neon, I had a 101 Neon which I managed to root with VROOT, however it had a power issue(no charge) so returned it for a 101b, which runs KitKat(required for some of the apps I want|)
However for the life of me I can't root it, I've tired VROOT, KINGROOT, a couple of chinese apps to root it, all fail(reboots, screen goes grey, tried it a few times to no avail) . I also want to flash the CWM (tried it with Arctools) but nothing. I've found a few posts where people have recommened downgrading to 4.2, however I need 4.4 for several reasons....(remoteplay app port on XDA-developers being one!)
Really looking for some help as I'm totally lost, I know it has a RK 3188T CPU similar to the 101 XS and apparently runs a " pure Android 4.4 ‘KitKat operating system without any skins or overlays."
. Is the 101b actually a Gen10 system?
Hope someone can help.
I was thinking that would it be possible to extract the update.img file(found a tool that did it) and then manually inject full root privileges(not sure if the correct term) into the boot.img? then repack back together and then reflash onto the tablet?
Or alternatively extract all the relevant drivers out of the extracted kernal/system img and add then to a generic 4.4.2 rooted rom?
The parameter file in the unpacked firmware has the following info
FIRMWARE_VER:4.4.2
MACHINE_MODEL:rk30sdk
MACHINE_ID:007
MANUFACTURER:RK30SDK
MACHINE: 3066
Am I right in thinking that it looks like the 101b Neon uses a rk3066 CPU rather than the stated RK 3188T ??
Sorry If the above doesn't make sense as I'm only about a week or so into owning an android device....
...
Anyone help?
Any luck with that?

I have recently got one of these archos tablets but this has 4.4.4 and i cant find anything to root it either. pulling my hair out and theres not much left lol
Yes! Finally did it with Kingo ROOT, it took a few attempts but eventually "fetched" the right scripts(I'm assuming it tries several), it finally rebooted, check it with root-check tool and it's all done!
Let me know if it works, or if your stuck

Hi
Do you think I can try with 101c neon ?
By advance, thank you.

I can't seem to root this thing. I've tried many onclick roots. You cant use the phone from 10 minutes without the phone going koo-coo. I want to load some random ROM and hope it works. I can't load the ROM without first rooting the machine and using cwm recovery or something. So I think......
Tried TowelRoot on the phone..Tried iroot on my pc etc. I've gotten my self somewhat familiar with adb in my cmd prompt. I'm learning just enough to be dangerous but not enough to make a difference. So far the closest thing to getting a root on this phone has been pushing some pwn and trying to run that. I did try MTK Droid Root kit but that started getting a bit to complicated to follow or they were ill written directions. Here is the nitty gritty...
I tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2684210
All was going well. But when I ran nautilus in Linux it did not see the phone anywhere. therefore I couldn't move any files.
Then I ended up getting to something similar but pushing some code named psneuter to the phone and another one called pwn. pwn started but then said failed in the cmd prompt.
I rarely give up on something like this but I can't so I'm writing here. Should I persue the MTK Droid Root kit or does someone have something I should try.

I'm not sure if this will be much help, but...
I recently purchased an XGODY model G300 off eBay, from "eternaldealer". Not sure how much it differs from the X200. Anyway, as received, this phone had pop-up ads and banners. The phone was not really usable. But, a scan using Malwarebytes found three malware apps, "Flashlight", "BeautyMakeup", and "Fun Weather". I did a factory reset and then disabled those three apps. (I cannot uninstall them... yet.) With those three apps disabled, the phone works just fine. You said that your X200 phone goes koo-koo after about 10 minutes? That is sort of what I was seeing before I disabled those apps. So, unless you have already done so, you might consider doing a scan of your phone using Malwarebytes, and maybe a few other malware-related apps from the Play Store. Or, just going into your phone apps list and disable any that don't look absolutely necessary.
As for me, I do want to root my G300, but only to do minor tweaks (e.g. shut off the startup/shutdown sound).
Good luck!
