Moto X Play stuck in setup wizard loop - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I cannot access my phone at all and it is driving me insane
Some context, a lot of Moto X Play phones have this thing where once the internal storage gets full, the phone goes crazy, the navigation buttons don't work, you can't swipe down for the notification bar, you can't receive or make calls.
I read of a fix that involved using Nova launcher, and using the Activities widget to link SetupWizardTestActivity which opens the Set up wizard and usually fixes the phone
However I've stupidly let my phone get full again and this method has stopped working for me. I am completely stuck in the phone 'welcome' setup loop and cannot get into my phone at all.
What happens is I press next once selecting my language, then I get onto the Wifi setup page which can only be skipped if you have a mobile connection working. This setup process cannot be done with no connection. If I press skip/have a SIM in, it gives me the privacy page which I accept, then puts me on the Add your Google account page. Now if I type in my account, it tells me 'This account already exists on your device'. If I try to make a new one, it leads me through some pages and eventually tells me I must sign in with the account I used when I first set up the phone, which it does not let me.
If I skip the Google account setup page, it just loops me back onto the Privacy page.
I've tried it in safe mode, I've tried wiping the cache partition, I'm not factory resetting the phone.
Thanks to whoever can help me.

Why don't you take a backup using adb? After that you can factory reset your phone.
Use a external SD card as your default write disk after reset.

someone please help

So I managed to track down a Prime at BestBuy and I just bought it. I came to university, opened it up and started setup. When it got to the wifi network section I connected to my university's wifi successfully and then it asked me for my google account which i input but then i got a message that there was no data connection. It was then that I remembered that in order to gain internet access in my university i have to input my student info on a page (think starbucks that you can connect but you dont get internet access until you accept some agreement on their page). However in the setup i have no way of doing this and im stuck in the setup. Whenever i hit back (so i could skip the google account part) what it does is try to login to google servers again, and of course i keep getting the same "no connection" message. I cant get out of this "loop".
Could anyone help?
Skip the Google account, open the browser, and sign in to gain access. Then go to Settings, Accounts, and add your Gmail from there.

that is what i wanted to do once i realized i had to sign in. when it asked me for the google account i had 3 options "use existing" "create new" "skip". At first i chose "use existing" and the rest is what i explained in my original post. However i can no longer go back to this menu so i can choose "skip". Whenever i hit back, it tries to login to google again. it doesnt go back to initial page where i could skip...
Agreed. Skip the account setup, fire up your browser and register on the network and then setup your google account.
Also, not to be a nag, but instead of the vague "someone please help" title, it would have been better to put some detail in there.

if its not letting you get back to the page to skip, then just reboot the tablet or factory reset to start process over it. or try a soft reset before the factory reset. soft reset is sticking a paper clip into the hole on the volume rocker side. right underneath the micro SD card slot. press until it clicks then you should see it reset. then hopefully it'll let you start the process all over again so you can log your student info in first. then once connected, you can always add your Google info in afterwards.
goodluck!
Removed... Demandarin beat me to the post
Try this too, it was offered to me by Aznmode to try when my prime screen stayed black... This should factory reset your device. I coulnt see the screen so I dont know if it works.
1. Hold volume down then press and hold power.
2. When you feel it vibrate (this could take up to 10 seconds if the tablet was already on) wait another 5 seconds and then release both buttons.
3. After you release wait another 5 seconds (dont wait too long here or it will reboot on its own if you dont select anything after about 10 seconds) then press volume down 1 time and volume up 2 times.
4. The tablet will factory wipe and after another 10 seconds it will reboot.
I turned it off, turned it back on and setup began from the beginning. This time I chose "skip" etc. All good.
Thanks all.
Hahahaha, guess that was easier
You could also just setup your prime at home wifi where you need not login...

Fascinate Stuck On Pattern Lock

Any possible workarounds for getting off the retrieve pattern lock if you have forgotten a gmail acct? Done doing factory reset via cwm and tried installing stock rom and kernel but it always ends the same way. With customs, I always get a bootloop.

i seems an answer is in the post a few below yours::
Samsung Galaxy SCH-i500 how to bypass "Login with google account" screen?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182268
Quote:
1. Completely power off and power on your Galaxy-S phone.
2. Right after you pass the Galaxy-S and just before the Verizon Wireless logo video ends, immediately tap on the home button extremely fast and repeatedly (at least 4-5 times per second). If the Emergency Call button pops up, click that every now and then (3-5 times) but keep tapping on the home button. During this process your phone may flash the password screen or keypad screen just a few times and your phone will seem to be lagging due to the tapping.
3. Keep tapping until you see your Android home buttons stay steady at the bottom. Voila, you’re in your phone! If the emergency keypad constantly shows up or if it shows the Google account screen constantly, you have failed. The success rate can be around 15-50% so keep trying until it works. (You may want to grab a young phone-savvy guy or girl to do it if your fingers are too slow)
4. Find and run the Settings App and go to Accounts & Sync.
5. Under Manage Accounts, remove all accounts except your Google account.
6. Press your power button off and on and enter your correct Google account information.
7. It will ask for a new security pattern. Enter it twice and you are done!
This solution worked for me. If it does for you, please leave a comment with your carrier and phone model to let others know that it worked!
... but worked just fine.
.
will try this method. will keep you posted if successful or not.
managed to get in. but now theres a new one. somehowmthe owner had a tw launcher installed and im'm stuck on fc error message. if i try to close it, i'm back on the gmail acct retrieval. hmmmmm.....
Looks to me that o won't he able to do the above steps. Hands are too slow. Also found out that it's like a common issue to the sgs stock recovery. Used odin and flashed cwm 2.5.1.x instead amd wipe from there. Worked like a charm.

[Q] Stuck in Flight mode due to of NFC ring Unlock app

I installed the NFC Ring Unlock application from McLear on the EZ2 tablet, which seemed to function well with my NFC ring.
I did one thing differently, because I don't like to give my Google master password to a 3-party app , I used an app password specifically for the NFC ring, which I considered to be one-time and didn't write it down
Then I had to fly and put the device in flight mode and powered it off some time later.
Now I get the NFC Ring Unlock screen in flight mode when I power up the device, but I can't get the unlock screen to work (NFC is also switched off in flight mode, didn't realise that and the Google authentication is also not working) and I can't get out of flight mode!
What I tried already:
Resetting the device by voulume-up/power, red button in SD-card and PC-companion connection.
Trying to hit the "normal" unlock screen which appears for a sub-second period.
Contact McLear, but they are flooded at the moment, because of the roll-out of their new products.
But neither of this works because they all depend on unlocking the device first.
Any advice?
If your device is unlocked and you have USB debugging enabled, you should be able to deinstall the App with ADB (Adcvanced Debug Bridge).
I guess that with the locked original Sony Bootloader, this doesn't work, though.
You could do a remote wipe with play device management:
https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager?hl=da&u=0
If Sony's software detect it when you connect it to computer, you might also have some options there. I am using Mac and only see repair device ,under the Xperia menu, as a potential solution.
Hey Svan, damn it sucks you are getting stuck by this! Sorry!
1. Did you try posting on the NFC Ring forum?
RE "3-party app" our app never stores your details, we use the Google provided Google Auth libraries to handle the authentication process. I can personally guarantee and promise at no point do we store or use your username/pass, we just get a success/failure callback from them and act accordingly.
2. Is it possible you can use your Google Auth or is your work-around preventing you from doing this?
We're actually just beta testing an updated version of the app that forces users to enter a pin code to handle circumstances such as this. Flight mode and two-form factor auth have been an issue for us so we're taking pro-active steps to address it ASAP This doesn't help you though ;(
3. As BabelHuber asked, do you have debug mode available? If so a simple adb uninstall of the app will get you moving again.
Sorry about the delay through support, I just took another team member on today to help with the backlog, he starts tomorrow so hopefully things will move faster!

Found a solution
I had a the exact same problem, and luckily I found a solution just in the moment I had already decided to factory reset.
I have the stock rom/bootloader/etc installed, no root.
Well anyway, factory resetting the phone is not an easy task either, so this is what I did to get to the factory reset option in the boot loader:
I pressed power for a loooong time, then the phone shutdown, I pressed power and vol-down for a looong time.
Some kind of boot menu appeared, I chose recovery.
At first I was stuck with a red triangle with an "!" over a lieing android. I found that pressing and holding power for 1 second then, while still pressing power, pressing "vol up" for 1 second and releasing both at once, presented me a special menu, wich contains the factory reset and option ... and also a mysterious "wipe cache" option, which sparked an idea of how I might circumvent the factory reset...
I remebered, that after the last OTA update the phone was so busy after reboot, that the NFC Unlock app was loaded after a long delay, while I was already able to interact with the phone.
So I though what the heck, before factory resetting the device I might as will try wiping that damn cache and see wether that caused the delay.
After wiping the cache, I booted and Android went through all those apps, and then showed the launcher/home screen without the widgets loaded etc, for just long enough to switch off the airplane mode, before the unlock app was loaded and immediately locked the screen again.
It might have helped that I disabled the SIM Card PIN check, i don't know.
Only this time I could unlock it normally :silly:
I hope this helps

[Q] Stuck after Factory Reset - Email Authentication (Galaxy Core Prime)

Hello guys!
I work at a smartphone repair shop fixing phones both hardware and software issues. A customer came in yesterday, they just bought a Galaxy Core Prime from T-Mobile (SM-G360T). The same day she was partying, setup a password to unlock the screen and couldn't remember it the next day.
I told her I could remove the password however she would lose pics & docs since we had to do a factory reset.
A few hours later she came back in and showed me this weird loop the phone is going thru. It asks to setup a Wi-Fi and enter her gmail account. Upon entering the gmail account it goes back to same screen to accept terms, enter Wi-Fi, etc.
I concluded this is the copy of Apple's iCloud lock, obviously, albeit it seems filled with bugs. If that is the case then what is the website I can go to remove the lock - same thing as going into iCloud.com and removing "Find my iPhone" - that would remove the lock for android? Does google even allow removing of this feature online?
I have checked email/pass the information is legit, all the email notifications are there.
My other alternative is download a different ROM (since I can't find the T-Mobile one, seems it just came out - SM-G360T) and try restoring via ODIN, however, I'm not sure it will work since I've done a factory reset, thus removing USB Debugging.
Help me out if possible guys, thanks in advance!

If it was her Google password that was reset, you must wait 72 hours before factory resetting after changing the Google password. That's what this sounds like. Try entering the old password or wait 72 hours.

The password was never reset though, she had the same password before even purchasing the phone. Does that 72 hr thing still apply? I'm just confused as to why there's no place to deactivate this like in iCloud's "Find my iPhone". I can access the account, have searched all settings, I even get the notification email when I login from the phone itself, but it just goes back to terms, wi-fi, enter email, repeat. LOL
I'm guessing the T-Mobile variant is brand-new as well (SM-G360T) since I can find many other ROMs but none for the G360T.
Oh well I'll wait til the 72hr period or ROM shows up, thanks for the help :good:
Hi I hv a similar problem I forgot my pin on my galazy core prime so I did a hard reset. Then on log in I couldn't remebber my google password so I changed it via laptop. But it wont let me log in still. I can access google account on laptop etc what is going on please help

Galaxy Core Prime Looping Hell
The phones keep looping back to the login screen beacuse of a security feature put in place by samsung. We must contact them directly and submit proof of ownership ( proof of activation or copy of receipt) in order for them to disable this security feature. The number to call is 800-726-7864.
you can remove that device from this account.

LG Phoenix 2 Google lockout on my phone thats my wifes thats been off a year

It keeps asking for the original email it was setup with. I cant set it up to any email. I am able to get it to do a verification but it wont take the email or password. I have been working at this for weeks now. Well not 24/7. It is active with my ATT sim card in the phone. I even try the accessibility settings but the phone wants the original account that it was used with. Well I don't remember it. I have a verizon email account it does accept but then it reverts to adding a google account. I have what I think is my google account but it doesn't seem to like it for some reason. I would do accessibility and then hold the home button and it tells me to setup account. I haven't tried rooting. If I can login to the phone I can add a new google account but I'm also unable to add a friends it just wants whatever was in it. The phone is my wife's and i just want it for emergencies and don't want to go buy a new one from ATT. The phone is basically brand new.
Sorry but I'm unable to post this in the LG forum. If I root the phone will it help me or can I access my google account and somewhere it will allow me to bypass this to get to the user screen. like I do have a gmail address and I maybe able to access the phone but my wife claims she doesn't remember setting one up? Any help is appreciated. I also went to ATT and of course they just wanted to reset well restore or wipe it clean. They didnt think to disable find my phone or whatever is stopping me here.
FRP Unlock
Power on to 'Welcome' screen. Press +hold 'Emergency Call' while repeatedly tapping 'Arrow', this will get you to the home screen. You're in. 1)Deactivate 'Device Administrator' 2) clear data+cache+ DISABLE GPSERVICES and GPSTORE, 3)do a Factory Reset from within the phone. This works for Android v.7.
For Android v.6- Power on + go to 'WiFi screen', with WiFi ON tap ' + add network' this pulls up the keyboard. On 'Keyboard' press 'gear icon' and swipe up to the letter 'S' . Above the keyboard a 'gear icon' next to the word 'Settings' pops up. Tap this. You're in. 1) Deactivate 'Device Administrator' 2)clear data+cache+DISABLE GPSERVICES and GPSTORE, 3) do a Factory Reset from within the phone.
