LG G6 Wide angle Len on LG G5 - LG G5 Questions & Answers

hello everyone, i have a stupid question. is it possible to put LG G6 wide angle len module on the G5? i mean the camera module look the same as the g5. the only problem was that the g5 is only 8mp while on the g6 is 13mp. i can really find the wide angle camera for a really reasonable price just wonder whether it will work or not. any idea?

G5 vs V10 or G4 camera samples?

Hello everyone. I have a G4 right now, and I've just placed the G5 on pre-order mainly because of the free stuff they offered if you preorder (the camera grip and extra battery and charger).
I love my G4 for the camera. I think the G5 has identical lens (not talking about specs, but the actual lens) from what I've seen.
Does anyone have a V10 or G4 with which they could take a few test shots side by side? I'm talking mostly about the main 16mpx camera, not the wide angle lens...
How do you guys feel about the shooter in regards to the previous 2 devices LG released?
I'm sure a lot of people would like to know as well I'm very surprised there aren't many reviews online comparing the two cameras!
Thanks a bunch!
Regards.

Portrait mode should be feasible

I've seen recently released phones which have a similar setup like the G5 with one normal and another wide angle sensor on the back, such as the Xiaomi A1. And they have the ability to combine the inputs of both sensors to post-process the blurry 'bokeh" portrait mode effect.
Which makes me wonder why this can't be done on the G5/G6? How much modification of the A1 camera app would it take for this to work? I'm pointing out A1 specifically because the camera app has already been ported to other Xiaomi phones.
These other phones don't have a wide angle lens. They use a telephoto one instead which helps create the effect
You probably would not be able to just port over that app. But it might be possible to create the same effect by cropping the wide angle lens back to the same or slightly more than the standard camera. But that probably won't work too well, since you already have half the resolution on the wide angle lens, and you need to cut it down even more to even get close to the other lens' angle
The A1 uses a wide angle as the secondary camera with the primary being a telephoto. But I've seen the wide angle shots and they don't look like they have much of a fisheye effect that the LG G5 has. But I do think with a bit of lens correction this may be doable.
But I don't have the skills for this.
Sorry to diggout this old subject
But I bought a LG G5 recently for 150$, I'm very happy with (apart from ghosting screen effect) and I'm really interested in portrait mode
I'm a java developer (and recently Android), if anyone still interested, I can spend time on it, it would be possible I think
Portrait mode for lg g5 request
Please please develope portrait mode for LG g5 ... And thanks in advance ...

LG V30 i need some info..

Hi to all,
This phone look so good. I have OP5 and i want better phone with better camera. I have some questions:
1. Slow motion - is the same 120fps at 720p or it is 240fps at 1080p?
2. Time Lapse - can it record at 4K? At which speed? ( x6, x10, x36 etc...)
3. Is there a portrait mode?
4. Point zoom - can it be use in time laps?
I see many videos but i really cant find slow motion and time laps.
And if you can chose between wide angle and telephoto x2 what will you chose?
P. S. Did you think the LG V30 have good zoom that doesn't lost so much details when you zoom x2 or x8?
It's 720p @120fps
Time lapse won't be at 4k for any Android
No portrait mode as no telephoto lense.
I will go with wide angle any day as I am into taking pics that can gather larger data ( field of view) and not much into taking pics of people ( telephoto is basically and better used for this)
Thx a lot for answer. Too bad that V30 (multimedia phone) didn't have 240fps.
I have a new question, did V30 have same hardware front face camera like LG G6? Because G6 have very bad front face camera.

Hi I don't have the phone but trying to get as much information about it as possible, as far as I understand the front camera is exactly the same module as the G6, it's basic, and selfie lovers as well as bloggers are supposed to be using the rear camera instead. For front camera performance the HTC U11 as well as the Nokia 8 phones are recommended.

I don't know if it is the "exact" same camera, but every review I've seen says it inferior to most if not all the other flagship phones (S8, note 8, U11, iPhone and so on).
It a bit of a let down, but I don't really use the front camera, so not a big deal to me.

LG V30 or Huawei P20 Pro - camera is a priority

My LG G6 broke down and I received a refund. Now I need a new smartphone, and the camera is a priority. The LG G6 camera was weak, very weak, until I uploaded GCam from Cstark. Now it was better, but GCam had a problem with AF and it was slow, so that the pictures of the children were blurred.
However, I loved the wide angle in G6.
Now I am wondering if the LG V30 is a much better camera, so that you can take everyday photos of kids and family on holidays, events, etc. without the installation of GCam (which I would still install for static photos), or look for something else.
The alternative is the Huawei P20 Pro, but this phone is more expensive by about $ 110 and I do not know if it is worth to pay the difference and if it actually has a better camera.
I care about a good automatic mode so that I can quickly pull out the smartphone and take a picture, because the children do not stop for a photo.

I use stock cameras. Yes, V30 also has wide angle camera.
LG has improved the V30 cameras considerably with Oreo updates.
In so many ways, V30 was what LG G6 should have been.

Surely you aren't saying the 2014 LG G4 camera is better than the 2017/2018 LG V30/V30+/V30S?

I have heard the G4 had the best camera LG ever made.
I'm thinking the p20 pro will have the better camera.
Well to put it simple I think both phone have great cameras but the P20 is better. Now the price difference is something to consider the LG V30 is selling for around 400-300 USD while the p20 pro is selling for 600 bucks so your talking about a 200 to 300 dollar difference. If camera is your main focus I would go with a Pixel 2 XL but for the price the LG V30 is more bang for the buck, it has a DAC a headphone jack and pretty good cameras. Now can you put up with the sometimes buggy LG skin and limited updates and rom support?
P20 the v30 has poor selfie big time !

That's one of my main gripes about the phone (besides only one speaker at the bottom). Using the Google Camera port makes a considerable difference when it comes to selfies and the rear camera.

Honestly i have no idea. But most of the people who are voting here have no idea either lol. Better off seeing some video comparison online. Not to mention XDA are infested by Huawei fanboys oddly enough.
I THINK, the p20 pro has the better stock cameras and obviously better front camera. LGs HDR is really underwhelming and personally I take log/raw or gcam shots and edit via snapseed.
The video capability is a bit of a similar story. I rarely use stock video cam though it's not because stock is bad, simply because manual, cine mode and snap movie tend to be far more useful. The quality I think is great and I strongly doubt p20 pro can beat graded V30 footage.
So, take my words with a grain of salt. And again check out some YT video comparisons.
I made some photo comparision. In shop LG V30 has more natural colors, and overall photos from LG looks better to me, but P20 Pro are little sharper? I tested LG V30 with GCam and stock camera. When stock cam - both phones was in auto in pro mode

I think I'll go with LG V30.
Huawei P20 Pro is not worth the difference in price (140$) . Am I wrong?

Actually, I sent pictures I found online taken with the V30 using stock and GCam and showed it to my friend who owns a G4 and they preferred the G4 and claimed it's better. So I went online looking for a comparison of the G4 to the V30 and found it. I noticed there's a weird "haze" over the pictures taken from the G4. I wish the person who took the pictures would have taken at least some adjusting for the distance difference required to compensate for the wideness or narrowness of either lens.
I think in the post (Mixed Light 1) it demonstrates superior contrast from the V30 when looking at the security guard and the shadows on the floor as well as all the red panels and boxes. The text on the window in the G4 picture is less legible than the V30 too.

LG V30 Camera vs LG G6 Camera

Is It Just me and/or my phone or is is fact that the G6 Takes way better pictures and seems to focus a LOT quicker, especially on close up pics.
I have owned a few of, them, plis my mother an ]d father also own the G6 and comard to the V30 Camera it's a LOT quicker to focus and lesss blur etc.
For example, OIf I tool 100 pictures with my od G6, without any effort whatsocer, I can guarantee you that at least 95 of the 100 pictures taken with the G6 would be perfect, where as If i took 100 pictures with the V30 probably 40 out of 100 pictures MIGHT JUST about come ut clear.
Yup, I knoqw the difference because I've owned 5-6 LG G6 models of the last couple of year
Only reason I bought the V30 was of a slightly bigger screen and fancied trying something else.
Anyone else here ever come to the V30 having previously owned the G6?
What are your opinions?
It could be your phone hardware: My first V30 (H932) developed problems with the wide angle lens, where all pics were more or less blurry. My wife had exactly the same phone and we couldn't reproduce the problem on hers. LG replaced it under warranty.
But from your description it sounds more hit or miss, so maybe more likely a software issue.
I have no experience with G6, so cannot compare.
