I am running the latest official international rom (1.3.4f). Was wondering if anyone is having accuracy issues with the indoor modes that do not use GPS. I tried the treadmill run last night and completed 4km according to the treadmill in the gym but only 2.7km according to my watch.
I also have an issue with trying to sync this activity. All of my other walk activities before the indoor run synced properly and all of my walk activities synced today. I get a partial sync failed error in the app, so I am guessing this activity is the issue for some reason as everthing else is being synced properly. Anyone have a similar issue.
Other than this I am extremely pleased with the watch and its accuracy for GPS related activities and the HR monitor data.
Thanks
Edit: just completed another indoor run and noticed a neat little feature that I missed in my first indoor run. When you stop and save the run there is a little button labelled "calibrate" that allows you to update the distance you have actually run. I don't know if this then updates the algorithm for future but it at least keeps each indoor run accurate.
Maybe this was the issue with the first run not syncing
Treadmill: How do you think the watch is measuring that?
It counts your steps and takes your walking stride length. That can't be anywhere near the reality.
Sync: partial sync error occur sometime, just try again.

I knew that it was calculating steps that way but the algorithm seems out by quite a bit. If I was to scale that up to a bigger run then it would be out by a larger margin. It should allow you to either enter stride or base it on an average stride for that activity based on age, height and weight.
Just for info for anyone else. It was the run indoor activity that was causing the sync issues. I was getting the message everything until I deleted the run activity from the watch. Will try another indoor run in the hope that this is a one off.
This has been bothering me for a long time! I'm not sure that I feel better or worse finding out that others are seeing the same thing.
When I run on a treadmill, the reported mileage on my watch is always way less than what the treadmill says. This morning, my Amazfit Pace told me I ran 2.7 miles, while the treadmill reported way above 4 miles.
Is there a way to adjust the stride length that the watch uses?

Purpose: I'm starting this thread to discuss the effects of using Latitude on battery life. Specifically, is there anything we can do to minimize the extra battery drain it causes. I like using latitude with family and friends and want to continue using the service (I'm sure I'm not the only one). I really need to find a way to use it without giving up on around 70% of my standby battery life.
Background: Over the past 2 nights, I've left my phone unplugged when I went to sleep. On the first night I was signed OUT of latitude and lost about 7% of my battery. On the second night I was signed IN to latitude and lost about 23%. To me, this doesn't make any sense and given what latitude does, its way too high. I noticed that in BetterBatteryStats, NetworkLocationLocator has 2h31m of partial wakelock time (Count: 2482, 16%) when latitude is turned ON. With latitude OFF, it was near the bottom of the list with a negligible amount of activity. I believe this is the primary contributor of the significant increase in battery usage when I use latitude on my device. I'm not an expert on BetterBatteryStats, but over the course of a day, I expect latitude to update my location a few dozen times. So, why is it showing a count of wakelocks in the thousands?
Specific Questions:
What might be causing the huge increase in NetworkLocationLocator wakelocks and is there anyway to get that number under control when using latitude?
I use tasker on my phone and I have profiles set up for higher battery life vs higher performance. Is there anyway to have tasker control latitude? If I can get an activity that would sign me in and another to sign me out, I'm sure I can incorporate that into my various profiles. (if tasker can't do it by itself, could a script be written to do it? I know tasker can execute certain types of scripts I just have no idea how to write them)
Has anyone used the program Latify (or something similar)? I know its an alternative client to the latitude service and I was wondering if it had better battery life than Google's client. This would be my last resort as I like having latitude integrated into Maps, which I also use often.
For the record, I'm running stock rooted KI3 (2.3.5). But, I have noticed huge battery drain with latitude on every rom so far with my GS2.
Thanks in advance to any and all who can help contribute to this problem and a solution.
Try this new app, from the developer of BetterBatteryStats: [APP] ALTitude, a Google Latitude updater with a low battery footprint
I think there are a lot of issues with Maps. Here is another thread where we think it causes wakelocks from Gtalk_async_conn: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242519
Hopefully Google will fix these issues soon. But in the meantime, I think the solution is to freeze/kill Maps when you don't need it, and update Latitude through an alternative app.
Unfortunately, there's no way to control how Latitude will perform location updates, and it does stress the battery, even when you're not moving.
I would also advice to look into some third party apps to update your Latitude account.
As far as Latify is concerned (please note that I'm the developer of Latify), there are a lot of options in Latify that allow you to update your location. Not only the polling interval, but also WiFi / GPS usage, or a simple last known location republish without using the location manager can be configured). By hooking it up with Tasker, you can activate the polling profile that suits you best, allowing for accurate location updates while keeping battery life in mind. Many users have reported better battery life, and there's also a Battery Saving tips article at hemorrdroids.net that mentions Latitude/Latify
I'm usually signed out of latify from the Maps application, and only sign in to see my friends. I also see a battery life increase when not using Google Maps / Latitude, and using Latify to perform my location updates.
I only use latitude when I need it. So if me and my wife go out for the day with a couple of friends and split up, we can turn it on and locate each other when we want!
Otherwise I don't see why it would need to be on all the time. Also its good when traveling with more than one vehicle so you can see the progress of the other vehicles.
Its going to use battery as its checking for your location.
@Sparksltd : That's true, but some people like to use Google Latitude in a different way, updating their location more frequently, to make use of the dashboard features of Google Latitude (time spent at home / work , overview of places visited.....).
In order for the dashboard to work properly, you need a lot more data to be pushed in Google Latitude. For those users, they need to keep Latitude up and running most of the time, where it does eat up a lot of battery, without any control on how these updates are occurring.
I have over 150000 records in Latitude, and it gives a very detailed overview of when I was at home, when I was out working, when I'm visiting friends.... It also allows you to see all your trips abroad, and the places you visited there. It's nice sometimes to replay that, or if you need some kind of "Where was I / what did I do on a particular day" functionality.
When I'm at work for example, I don't want Latitude to constantly update my exact same location every couple of minutes, but I would like a more intelligent way of updating it (ex: update it every hour based on my last known location, or update it every 2 hours until I'm in my my car, and than resort to GPS based location updates as I'm probably going to be on the move, and in my car I can charge my phone).
That's why people resort to third party apps, as it gives them more control over how location updates occur, and how it will affect their battery.
Hello there! I have a suggestion. Is your phone rooted? If it is then this option is for you.
Install Titanium Backup Pro from Market and Freeze the Latitude app(I think it is bundled together with Maps) when you don't use it. When you need it then you can unfreeze the app.
Checked, this still happens when I do not use Latitude. The same service causes the partial wake locks. I am using Maps 6.0.2. I think the issue was accentuated since Maps 6.0.0, probably wowing to better integration with latitude and the core application?
IMO this looks like very bad programming from google. I doubt if they will ever fix this completely.
Well I have tried Backitude and it works fine for me. It has several options which you can configure like
- update interval (5 min - 60 min)
- Minimum change in distance (100 mts - 1000 mts)
- Real time tracking (Might cause huge battery drain)
I use update interval of 15 min and minimum change in distance of 250 mts. Set latitude to update manually and Backitude will do the rest for you. Enable Use wireless networks within location and security so that it uses your cellular network instead of GPS to track your approximate location.
This helps in reducing the partial wakelocks caused by google maps. Other similar apps are Latify and ALtitude.
Note : This app requests for google authentication token in order to access your account, you can create an application specific password by enabling two way account validation in your google account.
I use Latify, and find it works pretty well. In particular, the scenario described above applies to me - I don't want regular location updates when I'm at work or home. So I use Tasker to control latify - I only send an update once-per-hour when at home or in the office, but as soon as I go outside or to another location it switches to my 'out and about' profile, and Latify sends updates every 5 minutes. That way, I get granular updates while I'm in more interesting locations. I also have it switch to 'SatNav' mode when I launch Google Maps/Nav or CoPilot, which then enables GPS for hi-def location, and publishes updates every 30 seconds.
Works really well - you should give it a shot.
I have Location reporting/location sharing/location history all switched off in Google Maps, but still see the NetworkLocationLocator top of the list in BetterBatteryStats (14 minutes/count 221 in the last 2hrs 45mins). Does anyone have any idea why this service is still consuming so much battery if I have the Latitude options switched off??
(the phone is an S3 but presumably the issue is the same?)
I go for long bicycle rides (30 miles +/-) and use Endomondo to keep track of distance, calories, speed, etc. It updates all this information regularly with computer-generated voice and I can hear it through my earphones. One thing Endomondo doesn't do is tell me what time it is. I wear wrist braces because of my history of carpal tunnel problems, so the only way I have for telling time right now is to strap my watch onto the handlebars. Does anyone know if there is an app that will tell me the time at regular intervals? Thanks.
If you are rooted, you can use Tasker to do this, I believe the "Say" command is listed under "Misc" and you can set up a task to say the time at any desired interval. You could even set it up to begin when Endomondo starts and stop when it exits.

Sounds perfect. I'll take a look at Tasker. Thanks!
Edit - Tasker looks like a very useful tool. It also clearly has a learning curve. This will take time, but it could be fun.
The only problem I have with this watch is that it maxes out at 5 minutes for the screen to stay on. When I am running I want it to be like any other running watch and give me information during my run without me having to push buttons. There is an always on watch function, why not create an always on watch that gives you your running stats based on Nike+ or the other stock running app. I would try the other running apps, but they are garbage unless you have a phone. No one wants to run with their phone and that's why I wanted this watch. Same price as a garmin watch, but can do more stuff. I'm looking into development, I do webdev currently and I hear this is like javascript, I may build it myself if I have time....hopefully.
+1 I agree but for other reasons. I like the current always on feature but why cant we just have an extra feature in the display timeout setting for "indefinite" . Android wear has this feature and it should be on the gear s for many reasons including yours.
If you have the wake-up gesture enabled under "Motions" in settings, then you can check your progress while running on the Nike+ app with the flick of your wrist — while in operation the Nike+ app is activated by this gesture instead of the watch face.
After a few seconds the display will automatically turn off again, allowing you to extend your battery life. I think this is probably the best solutions since GPS tracking and bluetooth music streaming while running are already major drains on the battery.
I'd like to see the option to change the display to grayscale (which should save battery life) when we're running outdoors. This would help with overall battery life if we're using the GPS, streaming music, BT, etc.
For those following this thread there is an app now available in the samsung app store called screen awake that keeps the screen on or dimmed.
Hello, I'd like to ask you how to solve the issue with one missing activity in my android Amazfit app. I have Amazfit Pace watches for 1 month and never had issue with syncing so far. I did running up to 1 hour, cycling up to 2 hours, but on Saturday I had road bike race for 110 km (over 4 hours) and I don't see this activity in my app. I can see it on my watches though, I see everything, including map and gps data. I tried syncing multiple times. I also did short bike activity today, on my way to work, and I can see it on my phone. I also tried to select this activity on my watches and then click "export", it says "exporting, please wait for a while", I left it for 1 hour, nothing happened. So does Amazfit Pace have problem with longer activities? How can I solve this issue, any tips?
Edit: I forgot to mention that I have the latest version of android app and watches as well.
Try AmazeBackup, it exports data from watch directly to TCX/GPX.
Hi there
I've an Amazefit Pace International Version with all updates till today. Already reset the device, unpair and paired again but the problem subsists.
After walking/running no matter the distance, when i close the activity, there is no problem sincyng the data syncs to the app amazefit, but, after when syncing to Strava, the distance that apears is inferior by a large diference from the amazefit app..
Exemple: Running 25Km. When sync to amazefit app the distance its correct but then when sync to strava the distance its shortened to 23K. Its not few meter but Km in some cases..
Does anyone had this problem before?
Strava will always recalculate and smooth the track, so it will never show the same value, specially with bad GPS signal or a lot of noise. If it is important to you, then you can try:
1. Disable auto pause and 3D data in activity settings;
2. Change the activity to "race" once it is imported to Strava.
My stratos have 3D and auto pause off and still apear on Strava such a big difference from amazfit

Hi there,
i have the same problem with Pace and last stock rom , i tested climbing and trail running, when sync to strava i have big distance difference. For example 16,13 km on Pace and 14,35 on strava. The 3D data and auto pause off.
Any suggestion? Thanks.
I've seen a few occasions where the end point on Strava is shorter than the end point recorded on my watch.
When this happens I delete the Strava activity, export the GPX track from the watch, then manully upload the GPX to Strava and so far this has fixed the problem.
I had to do this yesterday as the first upload via Amazfit sync was 2 miles short.
The distance on Strava is correct, compared with other gps in same activity. The Pace calculate and show the wrong data. Even uploading on strava the exported gpx file from Pace, i have the same result.
Time is shortened
Hi, I just made a test.
3D and auto stop was OFF.
Auto stop could be good but it is just for fun not normally usable for sport. 3D is interesting but I cant check what it really count. If you want to compare with map or others it is messy. Better to check altitude gain.
RUN TEST:
Watch (Stratos) and APP shows all OK. Distance, pauses, laps. It correspond to the reality.
STRAVA:
- Thinks all stops (not mooving) are pauses! Shortened the run about 40 minutes!
- No manual pauses shown and not possible to see them.
- No laps are shown.
When I switched to RUN/RACE WALK or BIKE, mode on Strava, it then calculate also stops to the time. Better.
- But the manual pauses was calculated also! It does not make a sense. And whats more, it think you made a hyperjump to other place of speed of light! Nice PACE than
In the result is is totally unusable. If you do not use manual pauses, you can can you RUN/RACE mode.
Whats more. If you want to find some place on the map and check time - time when you was there:
- Amazfit APP: not possible to track on the map! Why? You can check on the graph but you dont now where is it.
- Strava: Yes, but only on PC! not in the phone APP, it is nice, but if you have pauses, it is hard to understand.
- GPX export: Over USB and PC it is really not quick method.
Result is, that on the mobile APP you are not able chack position and time on map ever! Thats Amazfit watch.
- GPX export: Over USB and PC it is really not quick method.
1 export gpx on watch
2 amazmod file explorer download (to amazmod folder android)
3 mail to pc
4 manually add activity in strava from file.
Note this only resolves the amazfit App bug that terminates run to strava early (normally when route crosses). FW 2.3.9.0 inability to quickly re-acquire GPS after running under bridges etc will not be fixed.
The difference is easy to spot if the route is correct on the watch then GPX export will resolve.
Disabling 3D worked for me, thx!
the same is the problem with me. what is the solution?
Tapatalkkal küldve az én MIX 2 eszközömről
I had the same problem. For example, I stopped the run at 15km, and pace showed it properly. Then it synced to Strava, the distance was reduced to 12km, with the ending point being 3kms back, way before i actually stopped the activity. I checked altitude data in it just went dead after the 12km, so i guess this is a bug (altitude data goes dead and the watch just stops the activity, even though it still shows you data screen like it's recording). I tried to download gpx from the watch and upload it to Strava manually, which sometimes worked, but sometimes didn't. In some occasions, I also noticed that while amazfit app showed the correct distance, the activity map showed the activity ending flag way before the gps line stopped.
My solution: Power off the watch, wait 10 secs at least then turn it on before each activity. This was the only way for now that reliably worked. I sucpect this is a software issue from the last Pace update, since itnever happened before.
I have the same problem. My Stratos automatically send my Morning Ride with shorter track than I ride (22.5km). After that I export my track to GPX in Stratos device and I have full track of my Morning_Ride (24.7km). It looks, that problem is in synchronization Stratos <> Strava. What is the solution for this problem?
Hi,
I have a pace smartwatch and when i look into the gpx data it's starting after 1km when the watch finally record altitude. So I can't even manually charge the run onto strava with the GPX file. Any idea how to make proper GPS record or to make the altitude work from the first step ?
Maybe it's because I started running right after the GPS tracking was ok but the watch does not tell you the altitude recording is still not possible.
