Question about rooting - Moto Z Questions & Answers

I have my bootloader unlocked and ready. The only reason I want root privileges is to set up my moto controller to use touch emulation. I don't need any extra crazy stuff and I love using my mods. Is there anyone who would help guide me to where I can do this since kingroot and kingoroot already failed.

Flash twrp recovery
Install supersu.zip on twrp

thanks for the help
Thank you so much. info on here is bit confusing. I do have a new problem though. Everything works fine for a couple minutes then BAM no more supersu. I installed twice and both times it gave me super permission for only a couple minutes. Any help would be appreciated.

Please help
I did a factory reset on the phone to try and start clean. Now the phone wont go past twrp. I'm so confused and in over my head. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to flash a stock rom 7.1.1 that I found on here but it says "failed to mount invalid argument". Says the same thing when I try to wipe data.

Figured it all out with help from a friend. I flashed stock 7.0 through fastboot, I was previously trying to do it through twrp.

Did I permanently brick? (easy root failure)

ok so i got my replacement thunderbolt and tried to use the 3 step root tool on here and i think something went wrong. i made it to step 3, it says s off and seemed ok. i rebooted, tried to fix permissions to test and it failed. now all i get is the HTC white boot screen and thats it. i can go into bootloader (the screen with hboot, recovery, etc) and i can load up recovery but when i try to do a restore (backup from the old phone) i get an error and it fails. is it screwed? what can i do to correct this? thanks guys!

If you can get into recovery, wipe EVERYTHING (data/cache/dalvik). Then mount USB and put a rom on your SD. Flash that. If you tried to fix permissions BEFORE you installed a ROM, then you kinda skipped a step mate.
DO NOT RERUN THE ROOT METHOD. IF you have S-OFF, jut flash a ROM

thank you for the quick reply! so there is some hope for this thing then, woohoo!
yes i have wiped everything you mentioned. how does one mount usb from that menu? from within recovery? i saw a usb option on that (is it called bootloader?) is that what your speaking of?
now as a rom i DO have the gingerjane rom from jcase on there somewhere, is that safe to flash on there to fix this? thanks again!
If you have access to recovery (as you said you do) just load it, wipe, and flash any Thunderbolt rom you put on your sdcard (or already have in your case). Whether the rom you flash will fully works or not depends on whether it is compatible with your current radio.
But as long as you have access to recovery, you are set.
it booted! thank you both.
now im positive the root failed but it says s-off and superuser does show in the app drawer. im gonna try to d/l rom manager since its not on here anymore and see if it works.
if root failed am i safe to do the three step process again?
just don't flash roms with Rom Manager. It's known to cause problems with the Thunderbolt..

Not sure what "3 step process" you are referring to but I'm gonna say no.
You have recovery. You can clearly flash roms. The roms contain Superuser.apk and su binaries which means THEY are rooted. Flash a good copy of a rooted rom from recovery and you will have working SU.
If that means you have to download another copy of a rom and put it on your sdcard then do it. Point is, roms are "rooted" not the phone. You can't "root" something that doesn't have an OS. Common misconception but I'm leaving it at that.
Everything is working great now, thank you all for your guidance and support. Love my android community. Can't thank you enough.

[Q] Will there be any custom Rom for Alcatel One Touch Fierce?

Will there be any custom Rom for Alcatel One Touch Fierce? Just curious...planning to buy that
How did you get recovery for the phone??? I've been looking everywhere for one!!
Sent from my rooted ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Fierce running stock Kernel and ROM. Android version 2.2.2.
Step 1: Turn off your Android phone, and boot it into bootloader or fastboot mode.
Step 2: when in bootloader or fastboot mode, scrolling down to "Recovery" option using volume keys, trackball or optical sensor. Done. Your device will enter Clockwork recovery mode then.
help?
Im actually wondering that myself. i want to install a custom rom, i recently bought the phone and i dont like the default one
pretty sure he's referring to the stock recovery. I am working on hijacking the init and booting to a 2nd init recovery. Keep holding out guys, we'll be running all kinds of sweetness on this phone soon enough.
edit - Aaaand, there's my third "brick"
fixed my brick
Even tho it says not to remove the battery i did. I had no other choice, i tried just about everything. only way i was able to get a sign of life from the phone was by plugging it into a usb. then the led at the top left of the screen would turn on and nothing more. i bricked mine by using motochopper somehow, first it would say the root failed then i tried changing some things and eventually i got a device not found error. i gave up on that method of rooting but the phone was still working. then i found framaroot. i think i used the first exploit and it bricked. i took out the battery VERY carefully, waited 10 seconds(cant be too safe), reinserted the battery, and it rebooted and was rooted. now im just worried it might have not fully rooted. going to do some tinkering and if it bricks ill let you all know.
goodluck
Yeah the battery is super easy to take out without it looking like you messed with it. I have used both bohomir and faramir with no problems. If you're worried about partial root; do a full unroot with superSu, reboot, unroot with framaroot using the original exploit you chose, reboot then reroot.
Sent from my ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Fierce using xda app-developers app
If your not afraid of the rumors..
Kingo rooted my device inside of 2 minutes.. No Problem recognizing the Quad-Core Mediatek chip.
bad post
Bad post, sorry.
Any word on what ROMs this phone is capable of running? Or can it only be rooted?

I would, if that is acceptable. How do I get it..? Thanks
This is only a factory rom.
But the recovery I made would let you recovery from a brick.
You will need to read through at least the last 5 pages to figure out what you need.

No OS on Lenovo P2a42

I was trying to root my Lenovo P2a42 with TWRP and SuperSU V2.76 but then something went wrong and it wouldn't boot up. I then did an advanced wipe and wiped everything using TWRP and now I have no OS, although I can go into TWRP and the Bootloader. Whenether I try to boot up I get the Bootloader. Now I just want to get it back to normal, I have no backups (Cuz I'm dumb). Please help, thanks in advance.

Yeah I fixed it a few weeks back. I did an advanced reset again then got a stock ROM zip transferred from my pc to my lenovo then flashed it with TWRP. Worked just fine although OTAs no longer work (Too happy to care).
Now, I still want to root my device... If you find a way that works could ya let me know? Thanks.

I still can't root the damn thing, I just don't understand, tried a few different ways and none of them work

Need some help with rooting.

So I have a Galaxy S7 Edge and I have been wanting to root for a while now. I've tried to a few times but it's always put me in the bootloop and/or won't boot at all. So I just manually factory reset my phone. (im on my 7th factory reset over the past few days)
The problem is that whenever I go into the TWRP recovery mode, my internal storage and everything else is at 0mb and I get the error that I cannot mount the storage. I've tried changing the file types to ext4 and ext2, but to no avail. I have also read that if you enable pin on start-up then it would work, but that didn't work either. I'm really stuck here and I'm starting to get a little annoyed, as you would.
I'd appreciate any help I can get. I'll provide you guys with any other relevant information. I just want to root my android.
(the first time I tried to root I used a S7 twrp file and it corrupt my system and that's when I first had to factory reset)
EDIT: I am trying to root using Magisk, just in case you guys ask. G935F.
Now whenever I use TWRP (latest one for hero2lte), it just goes into the bootloop. I'm really stuck here.
