Need some help, I'm completely stuck - i9100P(UK O2) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
I've spent a good week trying to flash to twrp and a custom rom (AOKP/Viper) , I've read many pages with how-to's and am simply overwhelmed/given up with what to do. I'm running Heimdall on ubuntu.
I'm currently running:
Model: GT-I9100P
Android: 4.1.2
Baseband: I9100PXXLS8
Kernel: 3.0.31-1246097
Build: JZ054K.I9100PXXLSS
I have tried to install Philz touch recovery 6.48.4. It came up with a status error 7 as my device model was ' ', so I removed the necessary lines, then it errored with a signature verification. I've watched a good few youtube videos and they didn't work, I don't know what I am doing wrong.. I can flash stock rom's fine though.
Can someone hold my hand and guide me what to do? It will be appreciated!

[Q] I have a 100% stock LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Can anyone help me dump the ROM?

I have read many posts by users requesting a copy of the shipped ROM for Verizon's Galaxy Tab 10.1. Since I have a totally stock unit I was thinking perhaps I could pull a copy of the ROM for distribution as a backup? I know how to flash ROMs, and all, but have never made a backup in this fashion.
If it can be done, could someone give specific direction on how to do it? I think it'd help the community out greatly.
Thanks

Get odin 1.85 (see tut in dev forum on how to "root"), install recovery (clockwork).
Get into recovery, perform a backup. Export the backup (with USB). You got a nandroid.

I ran ODIN3 1.85 as administrator, pointed PDA to the recovery.md5 file, connected my Tab in download mode, waited for "Connected! Press the [Start] of Odin3!" and pressed Start. I've been waiting for about 5 minutes and it appears to be doing nothing.
After a 2nd attempt Odin3 appears to have successfully installed "recovery-cwm_4.0.0.4-sam-tab-10.1.tar.md5", but when I boot into recovery I still have the stock Android system recovery :?
wow. you had me worried. you dont reboot when flashing but thanksfuly everything is ok.
Here actually. They just need to stumble upon it. The thing is you'd nee dsomeone whos familier with your stock ..
I didn't hear of it yet, 905 is 10.1? always knew 10.1 were 7500, 7510, etc ...
Which android is that? honeycomb?
I keep seeing everyone mention "P7500" and "P7510" but those model numbers appear nowhere on my device. I have a Verizon Galaxy Tab 10.1, and yes it has Honeycomb 3.1. It is exactly like the ones they'd sell at Best Buy, for example, but includes Verizon 4G.
Wow, after MUCH searching I may have found a link to the stock ROM for the Verizon 10.1!

[Q] I have downloaded the ROM: (F1-GalaxyNexus-GalaxyS2-20120423) how do I do it?

Hi folks,
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.5

I am trying to install a new ROM, or just learn how to FLASH and install custom OS's and all that good stuff.
I have absolutley no idea how do it, and I've read all the beginner guides and everything, and I still cant figure it out. I basicly need someone to walk me through it either over the phone or through e-mail or whatever.
This phone I listed above, I soft bricked it and recovered it using odin and the recovery package, that was very straight forward. but installing this new rom is different, the file does not show up in odin when I click on PDA, it doesn't see the file.
I'm guessing this ROM needs to be done a different way, I've read about loading it onto your SD card and using reboot mode on your phone or something like that. but I don't know how and I'm scared to try incase i brick it again, which I dont want to do!!!
I really want to learn how to do all this stuff, so if someone willing to walk me through over the phone (prefferably) I will call you so there is no charge to you, or through e-mail (if its the only option) I would be greatly appreciated.
even if you could write a short guide at the least, with all the links to the software, kernels, roms, flash stuff or whatever, and firmwares and softwares, that would also be appreciated.
I just find the guides here not helpful for some reason, I don't know why, I've read over 60 different guides, and hlep links etc.... and I still don't feel as if I know what I'm doing....
So if anyone is feeling charitable I would very much appreciate it.
Thank you in advance,
Barry.

The instructions are in post 1 of the F1 GalaxyNexus thread.
From the above where you say:

I'd say you need to read some of the basics to understand what recovery mode is.
Start here.

[Q] Insecure kernel for rooting XXLPR/XWLP3

Hi everyone
I upgraded my OS from Android 2.3.3 to 4.0.3 ICS using Kies, however I am now having trouble rooting. I've spent the last 3 hours looking for a way to root my current version of Android, however could not find any insecure kernel that matches my exact baseband version (XXLPR) and my kernel version (XWLP3). I installed this firmware but S2Root seems to think it's not actually insecure/rootable. I did find other firmwares/kernels (on this as well as other sites) that seem to match my current version (at least the XW bit), but judging by the comments, they all seem to have a higher than average incidence of booting/WiFi problems.
Can anyone advise where I should get a insecure kernel that is appropriate for me to use in Odin, in order to then proceed to use S2Root? I'd greatly appreciate any advice, many thanks!
PS: I am using a S2 I9100 that used to be on O2 UK, now unlocked.
A stupid title .
B posted in wrong section question = q&A
Root + CWM .
Read the instructions first in full .

THanks! WHat happens if I use a kernel version that's different from the baseband version currently on my phone (XWLP3), for instance if I install CF-Root-SGS2_XW_KPN_LP9-v5.4-CWM5 instead of CF-Root-SGS2_XW_O2U_LP3-v5.4-CWM5?
Kaboom.......lol
Nothing will happen either it will boot or go into boot loop
OK.. well, going into boot loop sounds like getting brickified to me Or not necessarily? I.e. can you just put the phone into download mode again and try a different kernel?
Boot loop is not brick.
Flashing stock kernel usually fix it.
Yes you can always use Odin if you messed it up a lot

[Q] Need Help on How to Root Again

Ok, so this is my 3rd time rooting my Samsung Galaxy S2, my first ROM was a lighting one, If I can recall, that was rooted roughly 2 years ago, last year, I decided to go back to the STOCK rom and now, I want to install the JellyBam rom BUT apparently, I need CWM which I don't have and if I can recall, when I rooted my phone the first time, I don't think CWM existed back then unless it's that VOLUME-DOWN+POWER button thingy.
Anyway, I have an idea but just don't know how to get CWM, I know there are guides but they're outdated thus unreliable because there are updated ROMS and KERNELS. Now, on Jellybam's official site, it says I need CWM, I've downloaded an APP on the android "Rom Manager" but it says my phone needs to be rooted, I got ODIN but I just don't know what the heck do I use to root my phone with, I also downloaded the CM10.1 kernel because apparently, it has a better life efficiency. I've done far to many search and now, the information I came across is everywhere and I can't seem to piece it together.
P.S > I was reading this guide aswell http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290 but just don't get this "CWM-Kernel" and how to get it. Do I need to flash my phone again? How do I check?
PHONE INFORMATION

P.S.S > This CM10.1 kernel I downloaded comes with CWM but the question is, how the heck do I install it? There's 2 folders and a Boot image, the folders are "META-INF' and "system", I suppose these files goes on your phone/sd card and from CWM, you install it from there but how can I install it if I don't have CWM?

Just follow this guide to root ur phone again
Given the many threads (and different methods) for rooting a phone available here, why on earth would you link to a method on another site ?
I trust you're going to be around to hold the OP's hand when the inevitable questions come up if he/she has problems ?

1st upgrade, sanity check please

Hi All,
When I bought my phone it was locked to a network, I rooted it and installed an insecure kernel using Odin but do not believe I installed any custom firmware at that point, my phone is currently as follows;
Samsung gt-i9100
android version - 2.3.5
baseband version - I9100NEKI2
kernel version - [email protected] #2
build number - GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
I have SuperSU installed
When I boot into recovery it is Android system recovery <3e>
I do not believe I have CWM
I have recently tried to update using Cyanogenmod and Revolt files/guides here on XDA, the latest file being revolt_i9100-ALPHA-20131011.zip however i get the same message on install of;
E:failed to verify the whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
After quite a bit of reading over the past week I now think the following is what I need to do but could do with a sanity check from you guys first before I end up with the proverbial brick.
1) find and install a version of CWM suitable for android 2.3.5 (all I seem to find is for android 4.x.x?)
2) using Odin flash a new kernel that is suitable for the android version I am trying to install
3) boot up CWM and install new fw ROM from SD card?
If anyone could confirm or correct any of the above it would be greatly appreciated :highfive:
Or you could make life easy for yourself and:-
1) Update to ICS or JB stock firmware; download a stock rom from Samfirmware (doesn't matter which given you're going custom next; just not 4.0.4) & flash with Odin following the instructions in the thread stickied near the top of Q&A (the one titled '[GUIDE][ICS/JB] 11/03 - Flash Stock firmware/ROM + Root...')
2) Root your phone (which will also give you CWM) following the instructions in the same thread
3) Download your custom rom of choice & flash with CWRecovery
Edit - P.S, in future, please don't double post in multiple fora (I'm referring to your posts yesterday).

That's great cheers, I've read that guide and all seems pretty straight forward.
Just to check, my phone is currently rooted (yellow triangle on start up), It's ok to follow that guide from its current state?
As for yesterdays posts, apologies I had many tabs open from reading different threads and admittedly got a tad lost in the site, hopefully if this all goes well i wont have to bother anyone again ay
You need CWM rather than the stock recovery you obviously have. To get that, you need to flash a custom kernel, as recovery is baked into the kernel on the SGS3 (any recovery you flash independently of the kernel will not be permanent & only persist until the next reboot).
I strongly suggest you do all 3 steps.
once again thanks for the reply.
I have every intention of following all 3 steps, i'm currently on SamMobile searching for the firmware now, although the search options do not seem to have my operator on there, they do have an option for o2 and giffgaff run on their network so can only hope thats the correct option lol.

My only concern is that my phone is currently rooted, has an insecure kernel on it and has been sim unlocked, once again excuse the complete noobishness (I am starting to get a grip on it all i think) but the guide seems to read for those who wish to perform those steps as well as update their firmware.
If you could just clarify that in my phones current state, and, once I have my stock rom from SamMobile that I'm ok to follow that guide from the start I think I'm good to go :highfive:
The guide is broken down into sections. You can do one/a combination of/or all of the procedures in that guide depending on what you want to do with the phone.
I've already told you what to do, up to you now (I don't repeat myself; I find it tedious).
@MistahBungle gives you good advice.....all I have to add is that you *may* lose sim unlock at some stage during the upgrade process.....
This might be my S2, or it might be my W...but it's definitely CM
