I'm thinking about buying a new Huawei or (Honor) phone in the near future that have EMUI 8 Oreo pre-installed. To settle my decision about buying that specific brand (Huawei/Honor), I'd like to ask about the old famous bug of missing notifications that plagued EMUI 5. Does it still exist in anyway because of the silly restrictions to background activities/apps (even though Android takes care of this thing in Oreo! but Huawei seems to insist on keeping their own management!)?
and how about LED notification LED, Does it light up with any notification coming? and are the colors customizable?

I've never owned an Honor or Huawei device before, so I'm curious about updates.
Does the Honor 9 receive Google's monthly security patches? Or are the updates few and far between?
Also, how good is the theming in the stock firmware? Can you change the theme of the settings menu and quick settings?
I would not say it recieves monthly updates for security patches. Mine sits at 5'th July at the moment. One new OTA is on the way some has started to recieve it. It's the third OTA since they released the phone one of which got pulled at one point because of some issues. The theming engine is very good you can theme basically anything including third party apps and what you mention.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like EMUI is quite similar to MIUI in terms of both updates and themes. The July security patch is better than some flagships.
Can the colour and blinking speed of the notification LED be customised with apps like Light Flow and Light Manager? By default, is it green for messages and red for charging?

I don't use Light Flow so I wouldn't know sorry. Yeah it's green for messages for charging it's yellow while it charges and green when it's filled. And for Tapatalk it's the yellow/orange as usual.

I use Light manager and it works flawlessly but:
it's impossible (anyway I'm not able to do it) customize blink speed. Colors are right but speed it's always the same
Notifications are ok with all apps but charging. Charging colors are overwritten by system settings (orange until 90% and than green). More it's impossible to disable them during quiet hours set by Light manager. I'm root but I don't have found a way to do it.
I've tried Light Flow too. It seems worst than Light Manager but I've tried it for a couple of minutes than maybe I'm wrong.

I think no. But I've rooted phone as out of the box so I don't have a definitive answer !

So it's green at 90% and at 100%? That seems silly. If you want to glance at your phone to see if it's fully charged, you don't know if it's 90% or 100%.

Most phones I've had turn green at 90%. I guess it has something to do with the fact that the battery takes less beating in the long run if you don't charge it till 100% all the time.
Short answer is NO
I live in UK bought 9 over 3 weeks ago and have had NO updates. Still on the b100 firmware and May security patch.
Has the b130 update been pulled?
If not, I'm not impressed with the way Honor release updates.
Is it possible to flash the camera LED on incoming calls and/or notifications?
Did Google remove this (or did Pixel have it). Missing this valuable feature
coming from IOS
Their is no notification led on these phones. Gooble wants you to use always-on-battery-sucking-display instead.

They mean the camera flash on the back. So when the phone is face down, have the camera flash blink on a new notification.
I used to have that on Google Nexus devices, longggg time ago...the flash blink was too bright and annoying, never cared for it.
Maybe on some HACKED firmware. Most Nexus devices had NOTIFICATION LEDs. Using the camera flash as a notification LED is a horrid hack and ugly as hell.
So like I said, NO. These devices do NOT HAVE notification LEDs.
The recent FunTouch OS 12 has a lot of features missing. It feels like IQOO has rolled up the updates in a hurry.
1. No Android 12 Clock widget.
2. No Quick Panel tiles like Android 12.
3. Dark mode not getting applied on App Drawer.
4. Etc etc
Bloody hell, when will we get Origin OS for Indian market.
This device has so much potential if they just unlock the bootloader for installating custom roms
Disabled animations in Developer menu doesn't get applied either
Also, home screen is not coming from many widgets like the one we get by swipimg right from left edge
This seems like an Alpha version without much testing and stitching with animations quite annoying like dark mode not applying to app drawer
This is almost the the first few versions when we bought the device during launch. Only after one June or July upgrade things became like a release version. Established that IQOO OS team for IQOO 7 releases updates without proper testing and going through beta testing as such issues were never encountered in IQOO 3 with IQOO OS which people for some reason criticize
Witnessing huge flashes of brightness fluctuations at night even when automatic brightness is turned off.
Still can't find a way to switch off Accessibility button

Same here. Gets blindingly bright in the middle of the night. My phone also keeps crashing atleast 3 times a day. Waiting for a fix update.

Yup, same here as well. Plus sometimes when I enable battery saver the brightness also increases even if auto brightness is turned off and manual bright is set to lowest possible value.
I still have similar issues on my Vivo X80 Pro and many familiar features like the new Control Center are still missing! What shoud that? OriginOS would be so much better, why do you have to develop such a bad operating system internationally. I don't get it and I'm actually very, very excited about the X80 Pro but the software totally ruins the experience!
I come from phone which had LED notification light and missing this functionality on Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G.
Is there a solution to have "always on display" ALWAYS ON if there are any notifications? (so that it would be enough just to look at your phone to see if there are notifications)
There are apps like aodnotify and led blinker that should do that.
For my phone they don't work very well, I think it has to do with optimisation. If you exclude then from optimisation they could work better. But I think they use a lot of battery.
I have tried NotifyBuddy and AOE apps but they does not seem to work consistently.
I guess other solution would be to get always on display feature always on. Is there a way to disable 10 sec AOD?
Is it possible to do it with Magisk?

I personally don't know how to disable.
I am annoyed that Xiaomi sells their phones claiming they have aod screen whereas they clearly don't have it. A blatant lie and interesting that none of the official reviews emphasizes this.
I found a solution to use Always On Display as notification LED, the only issue with that is that it works only for 10seconds... But there is workaround to disable UI Optimization in Developer menu (which causes some other bugs also). I hope to root my phone after 7days waiting and use Magisk to get proper AOD working all the time.
Hello, I recently bought Redmi Note 11s to upgrade from my old Blackview which is running Android 7. After turning the phone on I updated to MIUI 13.0.1 and debloated the phone using UAD. As a side note I don't think debloating is related to this at all.
Now my issue with the phone is that I don't get proper notifications, it's really easy to miss phone calls or messages because there is no blinking notification. My phone usually is in silent mode and often I just leave my phone on my desk. AOD also doesn't work as it should, what I mean by that is that it should stay on when call is missed or if there is a message that is unseen. It doesn't do that.
I can have AOD working if I disable MIUI optimizations but that is not ideal, nor I actually want my screen to always be turned on and draining battery. I did try using black background with everything disabled, so it would only show white thingy on the screen when there are notifications. Which worked alright, but battery seems to be draining quite a bit faster with MIUI optimizations disabled.
Also I don't like the idea of using third party apps to be able to get some sort of better notifications, on top of that third party apps really want to collect a lot of your data which is silly. I am not a dev or anything but I would assume such apps should only be allowed to add notifications based on information what is given by notifications service in the phone. And it shouldn't have access to individual apps that receive messages or phone calls.
As for pop up / floating window notifications, these don't seem to work at all with MIUI 13.0.1.
Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.
How did you figure it out. I also need notifications on the lock screen, but I haven't found a workable and reliable solution yet
I had the same problem, it's strange that since there is an option to turn on the Notification Effect in the settings, it will only work once (it's some software junk)
So I installed LED Blinker Notification - and even that works, I tested NotifyBuddy but the first one suited me better.
