Just a quick questions for those who purchased non-pro Mate 10, L29 version: how much bloatware is there on the phone, how many unnecessary apps, and can it be all permanently uninstalled?
Also, are there doubled system apps (e.g. Chrome browser and some sort of Huawei's browser, or two email apps) that can't be uninstalled?
I'm thinking of buying it, and it would be my first Huawei phone so I don't know much about their policy on bloatware.
If it's not too much to ask, can somebody take a screenshot or make a list of all pre-installed apps that come with rhe phone?

No bloatware and no doubled apps for me. Bought in Singapore. Unlocked, but from Singtel Promo.

If it's anything like the Mate 9, then there isn't too much bloatware and very few doubled apps.
I believe the only doubled apps on the Mate 9 are the keyboard, photo app, and email. Gboard/SwiftKey, Huawei's Gallery/Google Photos, and Email/Gmail.
Almost all the bloat (Amazon, Twitter, etc) can be removed easily.
I purchased the Mate 10 from eGlobal and found no bloatware at all

Bought from Malaysia. No bloatware. However, second EMUI update added Amazon Video app which I immediately uninstalled. First EMUI update added the Microsoft translator app which I kept of course.
Just got my L29 rebranded L00 and it did have around six or so bloatware apps. All could be removed. Only double apps are Gallery/Google Photos, Music/Google Music, and Email/Gmail.
Does anybody have the original EU supercharge wall plug? Can somebody write me the model? Because the one i plan on buying comes with the flat pinned charger and an adapter so I'll order a EU charger afterwards, but there's a lot of similar items on ebay
I came from Android One, Nexus, etc, so I have different feeling. The phone comes pre-installed with Huawei's version of calculator, calendar, music player, activity tracker, email client, clock, weather app, etc, and they are installed on the system partition, so can't be removed. I prefer the google implementation over the huawei implementation, so I ended up with two copies of each. This really annoys me.

So today I decided to give the Windows phone a shot. Been an avid Android user and follower since it started But decided that I should really give the other operating systems a shot. I just went and got myself a Lumia 925 and if I'm correct that phone is T-Mobile's variant of the 920 correct? I didn't see a thread for the 925 so I think this is where I belong. So with that here are a few questions I have before I dive into my brand new 925.
Just briefly looking through the forum here, I noticed some ROM's here. Are these different versions of the WP software or are these developers personal tweaks to it? I know with Android depending on what phone you have, you can root it and install the latest version of Android on it, currently 4.3, even if your phone prior is only at 4.1.2.
My other question is what apps does everyone here recommend on getting. I know the app market here is really lacking and its a total shame about that. I am pretty integrated into the whole google network (Gmail, Drive, Music, G+, etc). I use some social media apps but those are't too important to me. Suggestions for other apps would be amazing.

for Instagram use 6Tag

for offline navigation you can use Nokia Drive+ or pay for Navigon USA, Garmin StreetPilot or CoPilot GPS (if you have legal licences you can use it on CoPilot without purchase new)

Stop the Music! for stopping (kill) media player (or free alternative from market, just use search)

925 is enhanced version of 920 regarding camera, but without wireless charging integrated and also slimmer due this fact
Don't try 920 ROMs on 925 and vise verse..you will brick your phone.
Don't switch. Android might be slower but it has so much more to offer. There is no free video player on the Windows 8 phone. Nothing that can play MKV for free. There is no built in flash support so sites on the web that still use flash don't work. That is an issue with all mobile devices now though. You can't block unwanted calls. There is no app that allows you to do that as there is no app that is allowed access to the kernel thanks to MS protection Nazi's. As soon as my contract ends next year I am going back to G4. This phone is just locked down too tight.

Actually in the amber update that is now a built in ability to block both calls and text from specific numbers, though you have always had the ability to save a number and set a blank ringtone for it.
Most of the videos I play are either podcast or streamed via PlexApp both of which work great, and if not, you can always convert them using Zune, granted it is a bit of work.

That's what it makes it so fun fiddling with it!
dont forget about the wifi calling that t-mobile has.. while the other ROMs do not has it.
Since the Amber Update Gmail works fine, as does Google Calendar, both in the Native WP apps.
Get Metrotalk for Google Voice. It takes a few moments to configure but once you do it works as well as Google Voie for IOS including the ability to call from the App.
I too just switched from Android and I'm still on the fence. Most of the Apps I use are here but the are some near dealbreakers like Sirius/XM and my IP Camera app that are not present and probably never will be.
On the other hand, there are a lot of nice included features like SkyDrive and Nokia Pro Cam. Unfortunately, the choice is not clear cut. You have to figure out whats important to you.
I myself was hell bent on being a one device guy. Had the Galaxy Note and Note 2 so I'd have EVERYTHING all at once. Now with the Lumias (especially the 1020) getting such great cameras I may stick with Windows Phone. I do still have an Android Tablet though to get me by.
Then again, Sony's stuff at IFA like the Z1 or the QX cameras are so intruiging. Though, the Lenses won't work with Wndows Phone, or any phone bigger than 5 inches.
So, once again, I'm left scratching my head. Do I go back to the best all around device like the Galaxy Note 3? Or do I stick with the best camera? Or do I compromise, get a middling Android Phone like the S3 or Optimus G so I can slap one of the Sony QX lenses on it? So many decisions!
Hi all, I just received my new handset, a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact as an upgrade to my Samsung Galaxy S4. I'm not a noob per se, but these are noob questions I have, any answers for which I would be most grateful. My otherwise stellar google-fu has failed me these past two days and some clearer, direct advice and answers would be immensely helpful.
- A general question re: the Play Store. If I purchase a paid app, does it remain available to me to re-download and update forever after? Does it last between multiple/new devices? I want to buy Navigon Europe, but wanted to know if it's a once-only deal or remains available to me to download permanently.
- Contact syncing. On my past android phones, I've always somehow managed to import all my contacts from various online accts (eg. FB, GMail, etc). I have all my contacts (up-to-date) in Outlook on my PC and ideally want them, and only them, on my device contact list. I don't want the phone to synch anything with anything except my Outlook contacts but don't know what steps I can take to avoid that.
- Battery: I've had mixed messages about the first charge (currently in-progress at the time of writing!). Do Li-Ion batteries need to be charged for 16hrs or just until they're full?
- Converting the SIM Card: My S4 uses a MicroSIM, the Z3 Compact a NanoSIM. I heard they can be cut manually...is it safe to do that, or should I wait 3 days for TMobile (UK) to send me one?
I have two last questions that are more general advice than anything, but answers still appreciated!
- What apps/services are best to transfer my data over from my old handset to the new one? I can figure this out, but any recommendations from experience in doing the same would be welcome. I can figure out how to use them, just a general idea of apps/services to make sure I don't miss anything (texts, calendar, apps). Paid apps are transferrable between devices, assuming you use the same Google account that it is linked to.
When you sign into Google (and your other accounts) it will ask if you want to Backup and Restore. Just leave it unchecked and then when finished importing Outlook contacts, you can go into your Google account and just make sure to only sync the options you're interested in by checking/unchecking whatever boxes you need.
I find a good way to transfer texts, call logs, apps, etc from device to device is by using an app like Go Backup. You were on the right path with the idea of backing up on the phone, transferring to PC, and switching it to a new phone. If you don't have access to a PC at the time, you can use something like Wifi File Explorer Pro to connect to it, assuming you have access to wifi or can wifi tether between the 2.
Cutting of the SIM is possible manually, but if you don't have access to a good SIM card cutter tool (obviously you don't have one in your possession, but any respectable repair shop or cell phone provider will have one. It only takes 5 seconds, but still there is a slight risk of damaging the card. It is best to get a new one. It is possible to cut with a sharp Exacto knife or something of the sort, but when going to nano, the margin of error is so small that I don't recommend.
As far as root and Barclay's, I don't believe it is an option. There have been attempts to bypass this restriction, but I believe that it has been without success. See:

I took the plunge and blew some money on the Play Store. I have the apps working now, and hope that they will remain available to me hereafter.
Thanks for the info on the Barclays App. I think I will skip rooting again *sigh* It's very annoying. There's a bunch of bloat I cannot freeze/quarantine, the ability to move apps to the SD card isn't available...all for one app If I found an APK of an old version, from back when it worked on a rooted phone, that might be an option?
Only issue I now have (apart from getting used to a few changes!) is with Email. On the S4, I set up my email as follows: Email: Forwarding Address - Incoming Server: BT Internet - Outgoing: Gmail (Set to send using my forwarding address). It worked fine. Now on the Z3C, I no longer have a box to enter my "Email address". Only "Username" and "Password". I can get my Emails from BT, can send via Gmail but it comes with "On behalf of..." in the sender field which is driving me mad! These are the little things that reallyget aggravating. Spent 2 hours already trying to work it out
I REALLY HATE all the google gubbins that came preinstalled on my Priv (Version) and would much rather have the classics from my much cheaper phone, I was told that "XDA might be able to help"., but what i'm after is some Apps from a cheap phone or similar (An LG Leon LTE to be specific, but i think the LG stock apps are all good) because i remember them being lightweight and not annoying, Namely:
-Music player
-File manager (WHY DOES THE PRIV NOT HAVE THIS BY DEFAULT GRR)
-Gallery (Instead of google photos)
-Weather app (It says AccuWeather, I know there's an accuweather app in the store but that's not it, the one of which i speak is just plain old "Weather")
-Bonus: Stock Email/SMS apps instead of the "command center" or wtfe this thing wants to use, it likes pulling up all my texts and emails alike in one big list
Would I have to root either device to get the Apps? Are the stock apps available anywhere (Specifically, free and legal I tried once and it just bounced out and said "App not installed")?
My reasoning is a distaste for all the google shenanigans, lack of the features natively for SOME REASON, etc. I never knew that they made things so irritating on non LG phones

What are the problems/ issues of using an old version if the phone is only used for calls/ texting/ email (not GMail)? After rooting a device and removing Bloatware and Google what's the potential issues in using the device? I only use my phone for calling and texting and keeping notes, some photos, few emails. No banking/ shopping apps, no social media. I like having a very basic phone, so most of the upgrades in the UI would probably not be important to me. I plan to upgrade at some point but I need to have a phone with a 4" or smaller display and it's got to be around $50 used.
I have a couple of older Samsungs that are small, which I prefer. One is running 4.4.2, is rooted and is in the process of removing most Google apps ( I have installed the Brave browser but limited data use) and the other is even older running Gingerbread that I plan to re-purpose for a signal generator but might consider using as backup.
New to Android and still learning, so any advice is appreciated.

PS. I was planning on moving to Lineage but I managed to buy a Samsung with an unlockable bootloader so just rooted it and started removing stuff I don't need. Seems to be OK for the most part.

Hello,
there might be some downsides, one of them being that your device doesn't have the latest security patches implemented. Another one is that some apps might not work anymore as their minimum API version is higher than your current OS.
Beside this, there are no real downsides of running an older Android version. If you got your device setup according to your needs, then there is no real issue at all in case you don't store any sensitive information (bank account username/password for example, but this applies to all mobile devices in my opinion) on your device.

I'm wondering if someone could share the most current Oppo APS (APK): Phone, Contacts, Messages for ColorOS 12, which work perfectly well on Oppo Reno 4 pro. As my phone comes from the European distribution, it's tooled up only with Google phone, messenger and contacts. Which are cool, but the original ones are next level looking and they just fit better with the newest ColorOS.
