seeking the informed opinion of everyone here. I attempted to perform data recovery yesterday on my Samsung S7 Edge with Wondershare Dr Fone software and only realised it require root when a warning popped-up. I stopped the root attempt but since then my phone has been displaying a warning that unauthorised modifications have been made to the device, which it hasn't. The phone is still not rooted and I have confirmed that my KNOX status is still at 0x0 but the triggered warning has now made the phone system denying access to SAMSUNG PAY and OTA update. what would be the best way to rectify this ? I am not keen on flashing stock recovery but that fix this ?

Don't ever use that software. It is malware. None of that will work if your system is modified at all. The Knox output is fkaed from the look of it as the software is detecting it tripped.

Hello everyone,
I am very happy that I finally found this awesome forum, now I will able to learn more about my phone and android in general and help others just like I used to do before with my previous iPhone (OS). I used to jailbreak easily and enjoy all the features that I could find for the iphone. However, before 6 months I decided to switch to Android and got Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from Sprint, updated to 4.4.4. I absolutely love the device and never think to return to iPhone until I learned that rooting the Samsung will void the warranty that make me to reconsider another android phone other than Samsung. However, this isn't my concern right now, I have questions any help, even a small one would count to give me ideas and solutions.
I am new to rooting my phone (Never done it yet), but I am certain that I would want to do it because I want to change my device ID. I have noticed some apps from Play Store, will ask to pull my unique device ID and based on that they can store my information on their server no matter what I do, they will recognize my phone via device ID. I have tried these methods and they both failed.
*I tried to completely clean my phone from any data or history related to that app, I even change my account ID (email).
*I tried to use VPN from 5 different countries.
My phone was easily recognized by those app and they even retrieve my data that is save on their server. Note: most apps will pretend that after you uninstall and install that it doesn't recognize you as old user, but it does (Tested). I really have concern and I consider this to be a challenge.
I want to know:
1- Am I able to root my phone on version 4.4.4 and if so will it void the warranty from just trying to use the device ID feature?
2- If I do root the phone, just by rooting does that mean I am blocked by Samsung from getting any new updates and other apps updates?
3- For device ID, if I change my device ID for good and keep changing, will that affect me negatively anyhow, I mean samsung will notice and cut updates?
4- If I am prevented from having these updates. Can I download them manually and install them using my laptop.
I am sorry for my English and for being new to Android world. I would appreciate any kind of information that could help me. either by replaying or providing links.
Thanks
Edwardo

Edwardo,
Welcome to XDA! We're a friendly bunch here. I wanted to start off by saying that I appreciate how much information you gave in your first post. It is very nice to have enough information to truly help you. Now, onto your questions:
Rooting on 4.4.4
Unfortunately, there is currently no way to root the 4.4.4 version of the phone without tripping KNOX. KNOX is just the "switch" that says whether or not your phone software has ben tampered with. Technically, your warranty is void once you tip KNOX. In practice, though, Samsung doesn't really care if your KNOX is tripped. If you need to claim your warranty (i.e. broken screen, stuck button, etc), you can do so with a tripped KNOX and they won't even blink an eye.
In terms of "how to root," this thread has a very good method for gaining root access.
Future Updates from Samsung
Gaining root access should not affect future updates from Samsung or Sprint. If you end up going the "Custom ROM" route, you would have to restore back to the "stock" ROM before updating, but that is relatively easy.
Device ID changing
Unless I'm mistaken, there are two primary ways that apps identify you: Device ID and a proprietary (facebook, google, etc) login. It'd be obvious if the app is asking for a login, so the Device ID (UID) will be the one that you're wanting to change.
I've only used Titanium Backup to change my UID (you'll need to buy the "pro" version to unlock that capability), so I'm not sure of other methods, but I know that TiBu works.
The main updates (i.e. 4.4.2 to 4.4.4) to the phone will not be affected by changing your device ID. The only thing that could really be affected by it would be your Samsung Account. This is what updates your Samsung Apps. Most of these updates will be security-related (in my past experience). I doubt that the ever-changing Device ID would negatively affect it, but it's a possibility.
Manual Updating vs. OTA Updates
One great thing about XDA is that we have tons of resources to help others with their phones. If you do ever have issues with your phone, you can always restore a fully-stock ROM. Once you get used to flashing ROMS to your device, updating becomes trivial.
Here is one example of a "full restore" that will bring your phone to a completely stock state (even if you were on an older version). This thread has another one.
Hopefully this adequately answers your questions.

Big thanks for the warm welcome and answering my questions. You have highlighted some points, I did not think about, if I change my device ID, I might not let Samsung recognize my device and get some updates, as you said it is possible, but I am very certain I will have to do it. I never use apps that force to access (Facebook, google, etc) I immediately delete them. So yes, those apps store my data based on the unique device ID.
I am going to read the links you provided and slowly I will root my device and download the app you have recommended.
Again thanks!
So, I rooted my phone, went to ROM Manager and pressed...something (not sure what). My phone then rebooted automatically and said "Custom binary blocked by Reactivation Lock". I gather this is because I didn't click some option on my phone before it restarted.
So then I started looking for ROM's or anything to bring the phone back online. I downloaded Odin and tried installing a ROM and I get "Custom Binary(RECOVERY) Blocked By R/L"
So now, I'm trying to download the stock firmware but, the problem is...I have no clue which firmware to use. I don't have access to much on my phone other then what I can see on the back of the phone.
SM-G925I UD
My provider is GCI out of Alaska and my phone is unlocked from the store. Which firmware do I use because from what I've read, SM-G925I is an international version and I'm not sure which I should use.
One thing to note...I'm the worst nerd ever when it comes to this. Thank you so much for any help you guys can give.
I did the same thing...

I have same phone, same carrier, and after rooting I was messing with different options and ended up with the same error message. After several hours of searching, trying different methods without success, I found a video on youtube called, "Samsung Smart Switch for PC Flashing Firmware to Galaxy S6 Edge" and I was able to reflash the phone to the stock firmware using the emergency recovery option "Device Initialization". I had to put in the s/n of the phone, hopefully you still have it on a label somewhere. Anyway, after the restore, it was upgraded from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. and the Carrier boot animation was gone. Now time to re-root!
Hopefully you find a successful solution to your issue, good luck!
I want root without the problems

I have the same phone with the same carrier; I live in Anchorage. I haven't done much tinkering yet because I don't want to break my phone, but if this works-- I would really like to be able to root my phone and upgrade it to Marshmallow when it becomes available. Can either (or both) of you confirm that this method did work for you to get the SM-G925I rooted and working again with GCI?
Thanks!

[/COLOR]here is the firmware for the s6 edge g925i that i could find on the firmware section ..http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G925I/
Just download samsung kies on your computer, put your phone in download mode and then do a emergency software recovery (can be found from some option on samsung kies)
Have any of you other Alaskans with GCI successfully loaded Marshmallow onto your G925I? I managed to root my S6 Edge successfully using CF-Autoroot but I am hesitant to try and flash another firmware from Chile, or Uruguay, or India etc onto the device because I'm worried about disabling the radio or other region specific settings that will cause my phone to lose connectivity. I have made a full backup using Flashfire and backed up other relevant data but I would rather know about others' experiences before I recreate the same problems that have already been done over and over again. None of the firmwares available on sammobile.com seem to match up with what I have now (I attached a picture of my current firmware).
Any help or experience is very much appreciated.
Nougat and Going Strong
I'm just providing an update since there aren't a lot of links to S6 Edge and GCI Alaska on XDA. Since this phone is starting to get a little older and I had been successfully running Marshmallow for a year or so I decided to push my luck and see if I could get Nougat running. I'm very happy to say that after a couple of failed attempts with some other versions not running well, I installed Samstock 7.0 using the install instructions on https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...unified-development/rom-samstock-rom-t3649798 and I am pleased to say that it is running very smoothly and I am happy that I did so. I had pretty awful battery life with it at first, but after installing Root Booster and setting the basic battery saving option I am back to 24 hours or so between recharges. I couldn't be happier that this device which shipped with Lollipop has been upgraded all the way to Nougat and is still going strong.
I have a galaxy J5 which i (tried) to unroot kingroot (app made by chinese hackers) i just got my phone out from repair and i rooted it again, i thought nothing would go wrong if i did not tamper with system apps etc. The battery goes down to 0 over time as usual when I was using it, i then put it on charge and I get this message "CUSTOM BINARY BLOCKED", I unrooted the phone prior and i stopped receiving security disabled notifications. I know that the warranty will be void as it shows the ODIN counter in the bootloader, no files to fix this have worked as they contain ads and malware. I do not have the money to pay for the repair, the only other option is i put it in the washing machine and make an insurance claim. Please help, it would be much appreciated. (Yes i know, i am a n00b!)
Hi For my 1st root I decided to use kingroot due to the simplicity for my S4 GT-I9505. Carrier Optus & version 4.x (think might been 4.2.2) So yesterday I tried the APK root which failed so I tried the desktop v3.0 which also failed. Realised my antivirus might be messing with it so disabled it then tried again. Got stuck at 97% for couple hrs. Forced reset & it started normally. The kingroot app said no root but I had root access for programs & root checker said success when I allowed it. Attempts to update the supuser on kingroot website & rerooting with the program still failed. I thought I had removed the knox app prior to root but got random (successful) restarts. Found a thread saying it was cause knox was still active. So used sdmaid & this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514703) to remove all traces. All removed 2 knox files with same name as apks but dif extension that weren't on the list. Think they were something like .ocex. Did a device restart to make sure was gone but now wont boot. Goes through the s4 startup, then the carrier screen then gets stuck on the samsung screen after that. Tried holding the vol down for safe mode with sd card in & out from the 1st samsung screen. Going into recovery takes me to kingroot recovery v0.0.0.2 in Chinese. I saw the word cache in there so I reset cache & it made no difference. Kies 3 wont recognize it. I thought I had made a backup prior but it had failed miserably so I got msgs, call logs etc but not my media files like photots. If possible I would like try options that dont wipe my personal files 1st. I have no idea how I should proceed or what the Chinese says in the kingroot recovery mode. Any help would be much appreciated.
Does anyone know the kingroot recovery options? I read sometimes a hard reset can wipe the apps but leave personal files. Even if I loose them better than not having any access into the phone. I am also able to boot into load custom os menu.
I have a samsung tab s3 , which i had rooted using BRE2 TWEAKED 3.4 DB4 with no problems. Was using it for two days when turning it on, the screen was blue stating security error. Unauthorized software device is locked contact manufacturer, this may cost you some money. I had also downloaded and started installing xposed roms , could this be the issue. I'm not sure. I have gotten my tablet back. But want to root it again without having this happening again. What precautions i should take. Where did i go wrong.

What do you mean you got it back? From where? That warning does not seem legitimate.
