Hey XDA-Community
I sent my phone to oneplus for repairing it. They wrote that as solution for my problem (speakers didn't work) they just replaced the mainboard. But now I'm unable to install TWRP persistently. After every reboot I get the stock recovery. Furthermore if I'm in TWRP wich I just booted from fastboot I can't install anything. If I want to flash SuperSu it says errors like: "Unable to find partition size for '/boot'" (also other partitions like '/recovery', '/misc'...) then in the console the folowing error gets displayed: "Unable to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)" this continues with all the other partitions, and then (obviously) SuperSU doesn't get installed. I have attached a screentshot about my phone info. Do you have any idea how I can fix this? Do you need any further information? Feel free to ask.

I did that (I hope a least) but the ROM just shows it's boot screen. The ROM I used is that one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/development/rom-xperience-11-1-t3507588 do you think I should try the official ROM: http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-x/oneplus_x_oxygenos_3.1.4/

I did that, and tried it for a few days. But unfortunately most of my Apps crash all the time, or after a few minutes. Sometimes I cant, lock or unlock my screen and root with SUperSU just disapperes sometimes Sadly this custom rom is very unstable. Is there maybe ANY way I cold just flash the Android 6 stock ROM on it and root it with anything? I really don't care what I have to do for rooting it, but this ROM is just too buggy... but it looks nice, and having Android 7 is also ver cool:fingers-crossed::good:

I have the same build number as OP (E1003_15_161107). Phone is untouched and on stock ROM. Read things about our devices being different than others and hence little to no ROM support. So I am a bit lost. I reckon recovery provided by you works well on our device. What about the ROMs ? Can I flash any of my choice ? And Kernels ? Can I opt for kernels other than Arsenic ? (Big fan of Franco. Using his kernel on my OPO)

Yes you can flash any rom of your choice, just make sure you flash Arsenic R46 along with the rom zip as kernel is what makes your device boot. I'm not sure about franco's kernel so better ask in his respective thread?
No Luck for me.

I'm sorry, i already use the suggerted versions for the installation process but it doesn't change anything at all. Now i'm trying to flash the stock ROM via TWRP but i can't due to the same error 7, maybe i'll try using miflash tool but i don't know how to use it.
What I did was just basically download and extract the pixel expeirence folder to your PC and later on go into the updates folder then search for google-android in which you will find the file for the binary and also the script then click on the script and open with notepad and delete the first few lines where it started with "ASSERT". After you have done all these compresss the folders back into one and try install it again
Have you tried formatting data???

[ i'm noob ] Does orange fox recovery working properly on miui 11 ? Unfortunately,i was update my riva to miui 11,succed to unlock bootloader but not with twrp, when i was flash twrp via fastboot, twrp just show up red screen then dim to black screen & only vibrate when touched. I was forgot to add command delete recovery from fastboot, before flashing twrp. Please help, any suggest to proper twrp at stock miui 11 global stable ? Sorry for bed english.
Not work properly when downgrade from MIUI 11 Oreo, now i experience messed up with stock miui rom,try to reverse back with flash full recovery rom from twrp, succed to flash, but when boot into setup wizard, error message appear,eg; "miui daemon has stopped, under that pop up,again error pop up "google service framework has stopped" > "xiaomi service framework has stopped" > "setting has stopped" & bla...bla..bla...! I can't pass setting wizzard, can't continue to normal screen. Then i flash pixel xperience rom 9.0,flawlessly boot until setting wizard done, run smoothly without error. Usually i like to change between custom then stock rom from twrp when i was bored with 1 rom. But now i'm stuck on pixel experience 9.0 (caf) & no twrp working properly when want to flash stock miui oreo.
Hi,
I tried to install Magisk by first unlocking the bootloader, installing a custom recovery (TWRP) and later flashing Magisk. Unfortunately during the installation of TWRP I got hit with boot loop and used Sony's flash tool to get the stock ROM and get booted. But the ROM offered by flash tool is 6.01 (Marshmallow). Then I tried to install the latest Magisk 20.4 both by using TWRP and by using Magisk manager. But both resulted in the 'Unsupported/Unknown image format' error. These are the logs I see are:
- Device platform: arm64-v8a
- Copying image to cache
- Unpacking boot image
! Unsupported/Unknown image format
! Installation failed
Basically I want to:
1) Install Magisk
2) Upgrade from Marshmallow to the latest Android stock.
Any guidance is highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Karthik

HI Zaqm,
I tried the latest Magisk 20.4 and few other previous versions but I don't remember giving v18 or v18.1 a try. I will do that.
Also, I would like to share that I did not allow TWRP to modify the system partition. I opted to keep the system partition 'Read Only'. The reason I did this is that whenever I allow TWRP to modify the system partition, I get stuck at the SONY boot logo and my phone would not boot and I need to reflash the stock ROM again.
I also came to know that I need to flash a rooted kernel to avoid the bootloop or I should flash the drm fix if I want to keep the stock kernel. Can you comment on that?
Thanks,
Karthik

Hello! I've been trying to install a custom ROM on my SM-J400M for a while now and none worked, recently i tried installing Magisk on it and now it is in a bootloop . Is there any custom ROM compatible with my device? Or it is impossible to install a custom ROM on it? At the moment it seems like it is not even rootable...
Also the version of TWRP that i installed on my device says that it is an SM-J400F instead of a SM-J400M which is the actuall name of the model. Is that a problem? If so please tell me how to unistall it, i wasnt able to find any way to uninstal TWRP on a soft-bricked phone.

Is There Any Custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy J4?
YES!
Although, this is not specific Custom ROM for this device. This ROM is GSI (Generic System Image), and J4 is greatly support it! (Because it has Android Oreo out-of-box)
How to install it?
Easy, install TWRP from TwrpBuilder's Github, flash GSI Image as usual, flash magisk (if bootloop, flash this might help), and done!
Please note that this is GSI, bugs are widely open. But, as far as I use J4, the only bug I feel are Camera and MTP (fixed by using custom kernel)
Edit: For your TWRP, which version you install?

I recently discovered that my Samsung J4 is carrier locked so i don't think it is possible to flash a custom ROM in it...
I really tried many things since this post but in the end it would always get stuck in a boot loop and i would have to flash the official firmware in it to restore it.
What TWRP version did i use?
I honestly don't remember but it probably was a unofficial TWRP 3.2.3 or something similar, not sure if it was unofficial or not but it seemed to work...
Also, how would i go around getting a custom kernel to use on the device that would fix those problems?
Again, thanks for replying!

I use TWRP 3.2, and flashed MY builded custom kernel (Only for GSI!) https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j/development/kernel-redline-kernel-samsung-galaxy-j4-t4188199/
You need to update to Android 10 Stock then flash the A64 A/B GSI. And remember to flash dm verity disabler then flash Magisk. Magisk is important too.
