Hi Guys,
I scaled my interface to small, and everything looks smaller now (better). But the size of the notifications when i pull down the notification bar looks super huge and is not affected by the overall scale of the system.
Is there any way to reduce the size of this notifications?
ROOT?
do you have root access?

I know your pain brother. Default dpi/scaling looks like a phone for 90year old with mega eyesight issues + steps to lower it to a good looking system are too steep, so you can have either Large or tiny option. View mode setting has zero effect on size of notifications in respect of incoming notifications and notifications appearing in in quick toggle area. Text Size @ Small makes them notifications look bit better but not ideal considering its a qhd screen..
Try going for small in both of these settings. At first View Mode/Text Size set to small seemed to tiny to handle, but I got used to it already. I would rather have small and crisp text than that default large out of place crap..
No i dont have root, but what happens if i do have root?

You are right, i went with small on both settings, and it does feel a bit better. Thanks for the recommendation! I must admit in some apps text is extremely tiny though (like whatsapp). But well i guess thats better than those giant notifications that annoy me all the time
But on my mate 9 it works for Notification also. Only on my new Mate 10 it is not applying. I hope for a fix in the next Updates.

What do you mean by "it" ? View mode ?
Its just that on mate 10 (alp-l29 8.0.0.115 (C185):
x. View mode options have zero effect on size of notifications, however,
x. Text size options does change the size of notifications, however only Text size - small looks good, however it makes other areas in phone uber-tiny..bearable but no the perfect solution..

No, you are wrong. Text size does change the size of notifications. View mode is the setting that's not working properly since it has no effect on size of notifications no matter what of 3 size options you chose.
See the screenshot I made comparing 3 different sizes of Text size, which clearly show that size of notification does change depending on the chose size of "Text size".
If View mode would work properly, meaning its options would have affect on notification size than Text size - normal could be used, but unfortunately that's not the case, so in order to have decent looking phone Text Size and View mode should both be set to Small.

so what?!
Manual change of DPI does not give you any better results than View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small. Even the slightest change of DPI from "423" (423 is what the system sets with the mentioned settings (View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small)) messes up the whole system - for example, font in Chrome and Whatsapp jumps like crazy even @ 420 which is a small step down, so in short - messing just with DPI in development options will not give you more eye candy/more decent looking system than View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small.
I get it. In all my mobile phones I have used xposed with the appsettings module, we will have to pray for xposed to arrive soon in oreo in order to be able to touch the interface of the system. Huawei must offer better tools for the density of notifications but I do not think it will fix it
Lowering the dpi also or increasing the dp in the developer options did not change the notifications size also. I was having the mate 9 and it was working perfectly for me in this regard. There should be some update to fix this issue.

Set mine to 492. I noticed the notification contents to shift down when I set it to 493 or higher.
I set it to view mode normal and text size small and put dpi in developer settings to 392. It looks like as it should have been standard. Anyways, now I have to change dpi after every reboot .

Me too. I noticed dpi in developer settings reverts back to 432 every after reboot. Also auto brightness. It activates after reboot even if you turned it off. I guess we should lessen rebooting from now on. ?

I am working on some mods for a Sense 2.1 ROM for the HTC Thunderbolt (based on latest OTA 2.11.605.3)
Two things I am stuck on, and I have searched high and low to try and resolve this but can't come up with what I need.
#1 - I want to change the icon size (workspace screens and app drawer) from 72x72 to a larger size (maybe 90x90). I have already added larger icons to apps and adjusted every size I can find in Rosie that looks like it would effect icon size. I even adjusted a lot of the padding amounts, but no luck. I did however notice the mail and messages icon would go to the larger size "sometimes" on the homescreen and in the app drawer, but not all the time. Very strange.
Anyone done this and know what i need to do to get my icon size like I want?
#2 - I would like to customize the background color or image on the settings menu (and sub menus if possible). I cannot find an xml file that seems to relate to the main settings screen where I can trace the color or set an image as the background like you can do with the app drawer.
Anyone know how/where this is done?
Thanks for the help, I look forward to getting some direction on this so I can hopefully move forward with this "project".

1.
While I've never tried to change icon size (except to make them smaller....), I was able to do it by increasing number of icons (aka 4x5 layout). I know in res/values/, values-hdpi, and values-port-hdpi there are dimens.xml and integers.xml. Since I've never done it before, I can't help you specifically...but that's where I would start. It won't matter the size of the actual png inside the apk, Rosie will size the app based on its resources.
2.
The settings menu, I'm almost certain, calls for resources in framework-res....please don't quote me. I've never tried to theme that myself but I am almost certain. Look for references in Settings.apk to @android, et cetera. Narrow down your search like that. I recommend this line of code:
grep -lr "@android" Settings/*
^assuming you decoded Settings.apk into directory "Settings"
^also assuming you're on Unix system....
Sorry I couldn't be more help man! Good luck!
Anybody knows the answer for this? I downloaded some 1024 x 600 (landscape) wallpapers and they are too big for the screen. Any help will be appreciated.
that's right ... 1024x600
You're forgetting the 48 pixel honeycomb bar
1024x552
ok guys....but how come all of the 1024 x 600 pictures I downloaded are bigger than the screen? when I set them as wallpapers they all appear oversized by like half an inch or more???
wow 1024 x 552! where is one to find scrimmages in that resolution? I swear that honeycomb bar sucks!
well...all I know is that I have tried SEVERAL wallpaper changer apps that have many aspect ratio settings......and also I have set the wallpaper using the tablets native menu and STILL never shows the 1024 x 600 (or 1200 x 552) pictures in landscape correctly. they always show outside the "borders" of the screen by almost an inch. images appear distorted or not cropped correctly.
I have the same sort of problem, no wallpaper changer apps seem to correctly set wallpaper, the edges are always cut off.
We need a good wallpaper app. It shouldn't be hard, either fit the image width or height and let the user choose the color of the bars on the top or sides. Allow tiling small images too. Stretch to fit would be a good option as well.

AT LEAST this confirms I am not crazy. Thank you. The good thing is that I found out the ACTUAL screen size in pixels which is 576x312. That is NOT counting the black task bar. Any doubters just open any image editor and make an image of that size and compare it to the actual screen size w/o task bar.

No, the screen is not 576x312. That few pixels would look like crap on a 7" tablet.
If you take a screenshot (hold power button then tap Home) it comes out to 1024x600 pixels. It's just for some reason apps don't seem to realize this. Even HTCs own Live Wallpaper "Slide show" doesn't do it right. Maybe the OS is reporting the wrong size? A config file wrong somewhere?
The correct size is 1536x1024. HTCs wallpapers crop and scrol correctly and that's their Res.

When LCD density is lowered 240 and below, notification drawer is inaccessible... U get to see icons of new notifications received, but when u try to pull notifications drawer down, ur screen becomes dim, as though a 50% transparent notification drawer without any border has been pulled down, but no way u can select or see any of the notifications.
Anyone know a way around this?
Quick settings on right side status bar pull down appears to be OK.
SCREENSHOTS ENCLOSED FOR DETAILS:
1. Normal View.
2. Inaccessible Notification drawer (when left side of status bar is pulled down)
3. Accessible Quick Settings (when right side of status bar is pulled down)
I tried the following LCD densities:
320 - normal density - everything is fine.
300 - fine
280 - endless systemui FC
250 - as above
240 all the way down to 160 - inaccessible as described in the beginning of this post.
I generally use my phone at half the original LCD Density - 160 for ZU, with large fonts, irrespective of the ROM loaded at the time on my phone (from the days of galaxy nexus and xperia z before ZU)
I'd noticed that 4.3 stock Sony firmware had other problems when LCD density was lowered below 220 - semcphone few other Sony apps used to crash.. But with KitKat, app Sony apps work fine even at 160, but I am only unable to access notifications... Which is nonetheless an important part of android.
I am using KitKat since November, ran every build of ever custom ROM posted here or on too.I'm since...have been waiting for Sony KitKat firmware to release for a stable environment, but 300 or 320 is the only LCD density on this firmware where everything works perfectly (as opposed to 4.3 which at least offered a use able experience all the way down to 220) which isn't an option as it does not offer me any of the advantages I am used to at near half density such as tablet ui / split view framework n such..
None of the aosp/cm based Roms produce such problems even at 160... Certain things like carbon fibers (on carbon rom ) used to fc... But for such individual elements, I could just run at a higher DPI with app settings xposed module... I can't do that here, because setting systemui or android system at 300 and everything else at 160 is totally pointless..
So if anyone knows how to fix this inaccessible notification drawer and so that I may be able to use the phone with everything working as it should at 200 or less, please reply.
Please don't tell me not to lower my LCD density - that's my choice and is the reason why XDA exists - to surpass limits, not to learn to live within limits.
ok
me too i have this problem

You can change the dpi on the Note 8 without root and it's awesome to give you extra space throughout the OS.
Just posting for people who didn't know.
1. Go to*About Phone > Software Info*and tap the Build number 7ish times to unlock the developer options menu.
2. Back out to settings, enter the Developer options menu now at the bottom of the list.
3. Scroll down until you find the*Minimum width*setting in the Drawing section.
4. Change it to whatever you prefer! Higher number = everything gets smaller, Lower number = everything gets bigger.
Enjoy your extra space!

After a certain point the Samsung keyboard will do this. If you use something like Gboard instead it will resize properly. So it's either go back to a size supported by the Samsung keyboard or utilise a third party keyboard.

What's the highest safe value?
By the way, would be better to increase 10 by 10 that number? The default is 411 here. So I should experiment 421, 431, 441...? Or there's absolutely no difference?
I've set mine to 500. It takes some getting used to at first, but it's better than simply adjusting the font smaller.
456 the keyboard shrinks for me, I set mine to 455.

Using the Samsung Messages app on my Verizon S9+, I am unable to permanently change the font size in the actual conversation screen. Yes, you can pinch to shrink and expand font size but that gets reset to standard size every time (unlike on the S7 Edge where it remembered your size preference).
Through Settings, you can globally adjust font size but the only Messages screen this affects is the main Conversation screen which shows all conversations. Once you click on a conversation, normal font size is presented. Frustrating for my old eyes...
UPDATE: Ironically, when you adjust Font Size in Settings, if you swipe the sample screen above the sliders, it shows you a sample Messages screen and the font size does change in the sample, but it does NOT change in the actual Messages app. Sounds like a bug to me as they are depicting what I want to do, just doesn't work.
I'd like to use the stock app as it has some features that are unique. There must be a way to change the font size so the setting is persistent, no?
Seeing the same also. Hard for my aging eyes to see.
And also finding it doesn't follow the global setting for size. Same as you.
Same issue. I don't think you can change the font size just for the Message app.
I when back to my beloved and trusted Textra SMS app.
It changes when you change the font size in display settings font.

As I mentioned in my post, this is not true. On my phone, changing the font size in display setting ONLY affects font size in the main Conversations view. Once you click on an actual conversation, the font size returns to the default tiny size.
You can get a newer version on apkmirror.com but it wont allow updating samsung apps for some reson. Anyone have the latest version of messages signed by samsung that will install?
They need ro bring back the S8 messaging app which has this inbuilt feature to adjust text. Wonder, why they ripped off that useful feature.

It's really not that hard to pinch zoom. Takes a half second. Sure, it'd be nice if it would stick but, c'mon man.
I had a problem with the Background colors in the Messaging ap - some of the themes I like to use are really awesome but when I get to the messaging ap, they used yellow fonts on a white background - nearly impossible to read. I either have to use a different messaging ap entirely (Mood is a pretty good one I found that has TONS of customization options) or just guess at what was written - or change themes.
It's dissapointing that I can't change the balloons or fonts in the messaging ap any more - would be nice if we could - and change font size too - so for now, I am using the MOOD messaging ap and while I prefer the Samsung Stock one better - Mood isn't bad at all.
Its not only internal Messages app, Viber and Hangouts has really small font in input line. Tried increasing font size, tried toying with DPI settings. No idea why its like that and only affecting text input lines, but hope some later update could fix that?
Hi Everyone..I just got the 9 plus and the messaging app is different than it used to be. It is just blue bubbles with white background. It wont let me change anything like before and the setting the background wallpaper for messages is no longer there....is that how everyone else's is?
I also switched to Textra for the all of the customization that it offers. It's a free download so I gave it a try and I've stuck with it since. Just my 2¢

No, not "come on man". It should work as designed, and has worked since GSI-II.

I think you mean, "It should work the way I want it to work." It IS working as designed. It's just that you don't like the new design.
That's not to say that I don't agree that it would be better if we could choose a persistent font size. I do.
But we're talking about a split-second pinch out to increase the size.
A split-second.
So, yeah... C'mon.
