I have Redmi Note 4 MTK, i had my stock ROM MIUI 8 and i wanted to upgrade to MIUI 9. As i did not have official update of it, i downloaded the Global Stable Developer edition for MTK from Xiaomi's website. I flashed it using 'sp flash', since my bootloader was not unlocked earlier. I had to give different 'cust image' file when i had error during flash. I also had to use 'Auto format' before flashing cz i had it stucked without it. But it was then completed successfully. And i had MIUI 9 installed on my device.
The problem was i could not find my IMEI. I kept having error 'Cant get a valid device id'. Even when i checked with *#06# it said 'unable to get IMEI'.
I then unlocked my bootloader to flash with official flash tool of Mi. And i thought i should try another ROM to get it fixed, so i downloaded another latest version of developer ROM and flashed it, this time using Mi's official flashing tool. It didn't help. I thought going back to 'Globle Stable ROM' will fix it so i downloaded that, wiped my phone and flashed again. And it didn't work too.
I am out of options now, guys please. I want to fix it permenantly, don't want to temporarily mask IMEI. Please help guys.
I did it using MauiMETA, found a good tutorial on Xiaomi's forum.
Solved.

I have bought my kenzo from gearbest and now I can't even update using the updater app because when I try to install the global stable rom it says "Can't verify update"!!!
What shuold I do now?
I noticed that if I press volume down and powerbutton it goes into fastboot mode... but I don't know if my device is locked or not... please help me!
What rom is reported in settings - about phone - MIUI version.
See the reddit xiaomi wiki on how to flash official roms with locked bootloader using "Mi PC Suite" or "EDL / Download Mode".
It says: MIUI 7.4 stable 7.4.9.0 (LHOCNDD)
I had the same issue like you but I bought mine from aliexpress. Anyway what worked for me is applying for official bootloader unlocker then I put the phone in to recovery mode ( updater app 3 dots in top corner) .
On your pc you should install mi suit and It will recognize update.
It may delete your gapps it did it for me.
next step is unlocking bootloader through official app ( you may need to wait for approval sms)
Last step is installing the new software http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
I hope that helps
Your right it is a Vendor Rom.
http://en.miui.com/thread-310405-1-1.html
Thanks a lot!! :d
One of my phones came with the same 7.4.9.0 (LHOCNDD), but bootloader was unlocked. Check yours, perhaps you're lucky too
It's a vendor rom, use EDL mode to flash to miui rom. Follow the steps here. No need to unlock bootloader.
http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html
mine had the same LHOCNDD (not global), I bought mine from aliexpess, Xiaomi authorized store- phone build date is 2016.7 so I think they come from Xiaomi like this I had to wait 2 weeks for them to get one in stock,
I wish Xiaomi would stop with these strange firmwares, they block OTA updates, have unlocked bootloaders and cause other issues -
why they don't just use the global firmware on en.miui.com is a mystery, it would probably prevent 50% of returns from people bricking their devices.
I have the same 7.4.9.0 LHOCNDD vendor ROM. Bootloader is already unlocked. I want to flash TWRP to use with custom ROM because I don't want MIUI. Which guide should I follow in flashing TWRP?
I've tried the official unlock and it says can't verify. I tried every tutorial to get around that, activated SIM, going on i.mi.com, etc. I even contacted support US, Hong Kong support, and India support and they all gave me the same garbage auto replies.
I've tried unofficial unlock (2 different methods I believe) and none of them worked. I'm losing my mind.
Does anyone know if there's a different or updated method for Kate? Last time I tried to unlock was 2.5 weeks ago
Somewhere along the line of flashing fastboot roms my network started bugging out. It constantly connects and disconnects, and there's no LTE. I don't think I've ever loaded a bad rom so I don't know how this happened but I think I can troubleshoot that if I can at least get a custom recovery on this stupid thing.
Thanks in advance
I had problems at first too.i flashed global beta thru updater on phone.went to dev options then mi unlock status and linked phone to my account.unlocked first try after that.

By Global beta do you mean global dev?
I'll give it another try
I just gave up and used this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/method-to-flash-twrp-recovery-unlock-t3473294
You might need to flash an older version of MIUI. I think I used 6.11.3 - currently running Resurrection Remix 5.8.0 with Radon Kernel with locked Bootloader without a problem (well, other than the typical Nougat bugs)

I found a 6.11.3 fastboot rom but when going to flash it says it cant find flash_all_except_storage.bat. And I looked that up and apparently it means it's not a fastboot rom, which is false because the other roms ive flashed didnt hvae storage.bat either.
Mi PCsuite also isnt pulling up the phone in recovery mode so that's useless.
Im about to throw this phone in the garbage honestly. Ive tried just about everything.
I tried the method you mentioned about replacing the recovery image but it didnt work at all
EDIT: Found another rom that works with the updater, but it gave me an error saying its an older version of MIUI. seriously this is pretty ridiculous

I have unlocked bootloaders of my 2 phones (1 kenzo, 1 kate), in process of unlocking I was getting error while flashing it was giving me the error of "no system storage" (Not remembered whole message).
when that error occurs to me I got stucked on bootloop then I get jumped directly to "step 18" in both device's unlocking.
in the end I was done an additional step which was about to flash recovery through fastboot.
To flash TWRP recovery through fastboot
just execute the below command if you get your unlocked you device bootloader.
"fastboot flash recovery filename.img"
then just get into recovery mode and flash your desired custom rom.
I have follwed same procedure twice and it worked for me, hope so that it'll help you.
Best Of Luck.

Hey there!
I'm using the Redmi Note 3 Pro for a few months now with CM. Since CM is a bit buggy for me and I would love to try out the new MIUI 8, most preferred the official global release.
But unfortunately I'm struggling, nearly fighting , with my device for a few days now. Problem is that I can't get anything to work properly on my device.
Here is what I did (Phone is of course offically unlocked) :
Downloaded the latest MIUI 8 global from the official site. First mistake was to take the wrong version. I allways thought that my device is a kenzo. But it's a kate. OK, so I tried to use the global version for the special edition. When I flash the zip via TWRP everything seems to go normal but in the end the process stops at "package_extract_file took 00s". I let the flash process run over night, so there is definitely a freeze at that point. This step stayed for over 8 hours.
Strange thing here is that the process looks exactly the same, regardless what image (kenzo or kate) I choose.
After the TWRP attempt I tried to flash the fastboot image via MiFlash. Here is the problem a different one: MiFlash won't allow kenzo images. So far so good. But when I take the kate fastboot image the process fails when flashing system.img (file too large). I found out that using a custom rom like CM changes the system-partition size (system1 and system2 merged to system?) for more space. But I don't know how to fix that.
Now I'm pretty clueless and not sure what to do. Is there a way to get MIUI running or am I forced to use CM? What can I do? I am very thankful for every hint or advice you can give me. Thank you!
Have u ever tried using edl mode ?
No, edl mode is new to me.
Try flashing the Fastboot ROM uisng Mi Flash Tools with your phone in EDL Mode.
See this.
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-put-redmi-note-3-into-edl-mode/
Yeh Use edl ....you'll be fine
THANK YOU VERY MUCH EVERYONE
EDL worked like a charm. Should have asked earlier
Thanks guy!
Here's the full description of my problem.
I wanted to install a custom ROM, so I applied for permission to unlock. I obtained the permission about a month ago, and then the problems began.
First off, I'm not able to bind my account to my device under developer options. It shows error 80612 and some Chinese characters. When I try to unlock, it stops at 99%and says the account is not bound to device. I tried all the solutions listed on mi forums, but to no avail. The only solution left was to install developer ROM and try from there
Here comes the second problem. When I try to install it from updater app, it says I'm only allowed to install stable versions. So I tried to install via recovery. When I boot into recovery, just shows an image of phone and asks me to connect to PC suite. No options are shown, no way to navigate. I can only reboot by pressing power button. So I tried installing PC suite and connecting my phone, but the software refuses to recognise my phone, either says to connect phone via USB(which I did) or tells me to update phone to use suite (phone is on latest stable version)
This is like a roadblock to me. These many problems should not be existing in a ROM, especially when they claim to be developer friendly. It's almost like Xiaomi doesn't want people to unlock their phones. Please someone help me with this. Pics will be provided as requested.
Edit: I tired installing older versions of developer and even tried downgrading the stable version via updater app, but failed, showing error that i can't install anything other than stable and that i can't install older versions respectively
Bro firstly you have to install the developer ROM and yeah it shows the error that you can only install stable ROM
Solution = just download the oldest available developer ROM and then download the newest developer ROM
Flash the oldest zip first with the updater app the developer ROM will get flashed, boot it up but don't set it up completely. After you're in the system again go to the updater app then flash the newest developer ROM
Once all this is done setup all the necessary info on the newest beta build
Go to the MIUI forums , fill up all your info, next go to the MIUI forums on your windows PC and check that if all the info as you filled up in your device is there or not, if it's there then you're on the right track
Next check is the MI cloud services are activated or not, if they are active then go to MI cloud on your PC and just click on find device, if it exactly locates your device then you're all done.
The MIUI forums play a major role in unlocking the bootloader so make sure all your info is there and you browse then for quite a while.
Then just try to unlock your bootloader it'll surely work. ?
Attempting right away
Still the same error
You did all of the things that I wrote right
Got stopped at flashing the oldest developer ROM. It still shows the error that I can't install anything other than stable versions
Blocked at first step itself. Can't flash the older ROM too via updater app. Still shows the error that i can't install anything other than newer stable versions
You tried the oldest available global developer ROM right ?
Yes. I even tried downgrading the stable version. Even that didn't work
Bro try this - Update to the latest global stable ROM then test flashing the oldest global developer ROM . I hope it works for ya
That's what I did in the first step. I'm on the latest global stable. After your suggestion, I tired installing the oldest global developer. Same error
Ok I'll see what I can do to help you now cause your problem is getting pretty strange. ?
Hello from Australia,
I recently purchased the Redmi Note 4 (Global) and absolutely love it! After owning iPhone for the last 8 yrs I am finding it very refreshing. I am looking forward to being part of this Android community
My questions is this - I am very keen on rooting the device but have also found that there is a pending update to 8.5.4.0 (Miui) and 7.0 (Nougat). Will I still be able to root it after I update and if so where is the best guide for me to do this?
Many thanks

yes, you can root it after updating to 7.0. First unlock bootloder. Install twrp recovery. and then flash SuperSu zip.
Note-Dont forget to flash lazyflasher-no-verify-opt zip after flashing twrp or you would go into bootloop.

Hello, and many thanks for your quick reply. Good, I had this guide that I was going to follow but then found out about my pending update:
EDIT - sorry, had to edit the url link as I'm a new user. h t t p ://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=667496
Do you think this is the right steps for me to follow? also, I have never flashed or tweaked an Android phone so don't know how to do the flashing of lazyflasher-no-verify-opt zip. I don't see that in the steps. How exactly do I do that? Do you have a link?
Thank you.

steps given in the guide are almost correct.First unlock bootloader which is the biggest hassle in whole process. Probably you wont be able unlock bootloader in first few tries as mi unlock tool will probably stuck at 99% and show error "account not binded to device".You can wait a few days and try again but i dont think that will work. To solve this problem what i did was-
download miui developer rom version 7.2.16 link-http://bigota.d.miui.com/7.2.16/miui_HMNote4XGlobal_7.2.16_e6eed016d8_6.0.zip
Now go to updater app choose downloaded zip as update package. Now updater would start decrypting it and your phone will be updated to developer rom. Now when on developer rom go to updater app and there will be an ota for latest version, update. Now when on latest developer version try to unlock again using mi unlock tool. I dont know if it will work for you but it worked for me.
Now your bootloader is unlocked, go to mido section in xda forums and download twrp for redmi note 4. To flash twrp recovery, there are many ways. process given in your guide may also work. But what I did was downloaded "mini flasher" link-"https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=25193&task=get" install mini flasher.choose install twrp, browse to the recovery image you downloaded and it will automatically flash it and reboot your phone to recovery.
Now when your phone is in recovery mode coose 'install'
choose the lazyflasher zip file you earlier downloaded. now reboot. again go to recovery install SuperSu zip file(link given your guide) reboot. your phone will probably bootloop one time but dont worry it is fine. now when your phone reboots it is rooted.
Well I sucessfully updated the phone to Nougat and it was very easy.
Now I have tried to unlock the bootloader but keep getting this message:
您所在的IP申请次数超标
I have googled it and it says I have tried too many times from my IP address. But I haven't - this was the first time. I have tried 3 times, with the same result.
Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
Thanks
The nougat update eats to much ram I got only 1.3 GB free ram
You could try Miui 9 beta channel after miui 8.5 update without unlocking or rooting. Just had to download the miui 9 recovery rom package. Place it in folder named downloaded-rom. Backup your imp data before proceeding. Goto the updater app or settings about, tap three dot menu. Choose update and select the downloaded file. It will erase all your data and update to miui 9.
They release updates weekly. And battery backup is outstanding.

Anyone able to help with this? I have read it is a common issue for it to incorrectly say you have had too many attempts but not really any conclusive answer as to how to get around the problem.
I am really keen on unlocking my bootloader. Thanks in advance.
