For some reason I can only view 480p videos... I have uploaded some [email protected] vids, but max I can view in app is 480p.. however if I switch to chrome and request the desktop version, I can view in [email protected]
Is this an app thing? does anyone have the same issue?

This probably isn't a phone problem. Sounds like your mobile provider? Many carriers/MVNOs who offer "unlimited" data plans clearly state they will limit streaming to lower resolution.
Even my provider turns on this "data saver" option as default choice and I have to go in and turn if OFF. (I don't have unlimited data plan, so I can turn it off. On my provider's unlimited plans, users cannot turn that off.)
If you have TMobile, it's their settings that allow unlimited streaming.
You'd have to disable it on my.t-mobile.com
There are settings all over the place that will limit your viewing from your carrier on into your youtube app and account settings. You're going to have to slog through them all with the realization that when you do, your data usage is going to climb.

He's in Australia, so he doesn't have U.S. T-mobile. U.S. carriers are notorious for this, not just U.S. T-mobile. (There's also European countries with T-mobile branded carriers. Deutsche Telekom uses that brand name in several different countries, not just U.S.*)
But in googling the Australian carrier he mentions in another post, I see even that Australia carrier has gotten complaints for limiting to 480p -- and even on home internet plans.
I have AT&T Prepaid and they not only do it for their capped-speed "unlimited" plan, but also make it the default choice for their other high speed data plans. I have to turn that setting off on both mine and my wife's phones.

* In a world-wide forum like this (devoted to all LG V30 models) you shouldn't just say "T-mobile". If it was just a U.S. T-mobile variant forum -- devoted to just the H932, you could. But it's for ALL LG V30 models.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile
T-Mobile is the brand name used by the mobile communications subsidiaries of the German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom AG. The brand is active in Austria (under the subsidiary T-Mobile Austria), the Czech Republic (T-Mobile Czech Republic), the Netherlands (T-Mobile Nederland), Poland (T-Mobile Polska), and the United States (T-Mobile US).
The name was previously used by subsidiaries in other countries, including Albania (now Telekom Albania), Croatia (now Hrvatski Telekom), Germany (now Deutsche Telekom), Hungary (now Magyar Telekom), Macedonia (now Makedonski Telekom), Montenegro (now Crnogorski Telekom), the United Kingdom (now EE Limited), Romania (now Telekom Romania), and Slovakia (now Slovak Telekom).[1]

Hi guys. I have the same issue running off Telstra Cable with 115mbits download speeds, as well as Vodafone. I googled the issue last night and on Ausdroid.net found people having similar issues 6-8 months ago with other phones and was a youtube app issue - since I can view 2k and 1080-60fps over the chrome app full screen (as mentioned), theres obviously nothing wrong with download speeds or carrier limitations..
I've uninstalled the youtube app, and reinstalled, cleared cache, removed all data limits, etc - and the issue persists... Sent a message to Youtube last night so hopefully they will fix it
Nup still cant sort it... I give up
It has to be the app I'm having the same issue but only on some videos, first I thought it was because they had only just been uploaded but a day later still only 480p. This is through WiFi 70mbps down 20mbps up

Hi there... this is my first post so forgive me if i don't get the protocol correct!
Will my 02 locked phone work when roaming in europe because i have family in Germany and France and i will need to use my phone abroad?.
If it will roam OK i have no reason to unlock it.
Cheers
Yes, it will roam fine, but be aware that O2 charge a small fortune for GRPS usage abroad.
You should be able to get an add-on package for european roaming that will reduce your costs a bit, but it still works out very expensive. I have this addition yet I was recently charged £1.70 for a 4k download from France. Spain is even more expesive for some reason.
Hello, I recently visited the USA (Las Vegas) and discovered that my UK bought (UNLOCKED) Samsung Galaxy S3 could not make nor receive calls in the USA. Roaming WAS enabled and I had an R symbol over the signal strength indicator. I have a Vodafone pay as you go sim card which I have used (as my main sim) over numerous years now. I have used it in other phones previously (HTC, Samsung, LG, etc.) over the years and they have all made and received calls in the USA (roaming) no problem. I did get a text message (eventually) when I was in the USA saying welcome to USA and calls cost £1.50, etc, etc. Yet when I tried making a call, I had an automated voice message asking me to contact my operator for some reason (can't remember the specifics). I've never had a problem using my Vodafone sim roaming in the USA and with previous phones, always made and received calls without any hassle (i.e. found a network automatically, e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.). Also, I visited Las Vegas last year with the same sim card but a different phone (HTC Desire HD) and was able to make and receive calls. I recall my brother saying that he had read something on the internet about the UK spec. S3 having hardware differences with the rest of the world versions, including not being able to work in the USA for calls. However, he could not find the site again. Has anybody else had this problem or know about it?

I have no idea about roaming in the USA...
However, I do know that the phone works on AT&Ts network, because I live in the USA & use the I9300 on AT&Ts network. The I9300 will not work on T-Mobile's data network, but should work on T-Mo's voice network.
That probably wasn't much help to you. I just wanted to confirm for you that the phone does work on AT&Ts network here.

Thanks brkshr, that was helpful. Good to know that a GT-I9300 does work in the USA.
I thought the USA had different models (SGH-T999 and SGH-I747). What made you decide to get a GT-I9300?
I may try again (next time I go back to USA) and if still the same, will try an AT&T sim. I must admit, I don't know anything about the different networks in the USA. Can I get a pay as you go sim for free? In England, you can get sim cards for different networks free and then obviously pay to top up.

You are correct. The U.S. does have it's own variations. I decided to buy the I9300 for the quad-core & I was hoping that Samsung would be more likely to release sources for it & update it faster. They do update the I9300 faster, but I prefer AOSP (Google's stock Android) over Samsungs TouchWiz & that's where sources come in to play. So now I wish I would have gone with a U.S. variant, because sources for the US variant are released. Oh well! (Sorry for the rant)
Unfortunately, we don't get free SIM cards here. The best thing to do is buy an AT&T SIM card online ahead of time. Then activate it on a prepaid plan when you get here. You need a Micro SIM card. They should cost anywhere from $5 to $15. Otherwise, you have to go into an AT&T store & buy their 'SIM Starter Kit' for $25... Complete BS.

Thanks again, the link (to Amazon) is very useful. I think I will get an AT&T pre-paid sim card as suggested. At least that way I can use mobile data (when wi-fi is not available) and not have to pay extortionate data roaming charges. Especially useful for mobile data assisted GPS.
One last question though. In the UK, you can keep your number even if you don't top up for ages. In the US, can you buy a pre-paid sim card, use it once, not top up for say a year and still be able to use the sim again, i.e. it won't be deactivated will it? That way I can have it as a holiday sim (I visit the US every year).

Hi, first of all I apologize for my English but it's not my mother tongue. What I'm going to ask is not HOW TO download an app that is not available in your country but WHY this happened to me when I was travelling abroad... Let me explain:
I'm from Uruguay, I have a Nexus 4 that my uncle brought to me from Australia (he bought it at eBay (seller shipped it from Australia but I don't know if it was imported from somewhere else).
Well, last month I went to Brazil on vacation. Data roaming was so expensive (0,75 USD per MB) so I decided to buy I SIM card from a brazilian network provider since my phone is unlocked. I managed to get a sim card from Claro network and here comes the problem. This network provider has an app called "My Claro" where you can activate available promotions, check your balance, your internet traffic and so on. This app is available at Google Play and also at Apple Store. My boyfried has an iPhone 5 and also bought a chip from the same network provider and he WAS ABLE to download the app from the appstore BUT I couldn't from Google Play, I got the error "this app is not available in your country".
How the hell this could happened? I mean, I was using a chip from a brazilian network provider, I could make calls, send/receive sms, surf the internet but I couldn't download that app! Neither connecting trough hotel's WiFi nor using the 3g network from Claro.
So, anyone knows WHY this happened? I also tried downloading an .apk that I found on the internet but I got the same error...
Please if anyone has any idea share it with me because I'm very intrigued about this situation... I'm planning to travel overseas once again and I want to know if this situation will be repeated...

I'm resident in one country, paying tax in another, working in another. My phone is from one country, with a SIM from where I work and mt Google Play account appears to be linked to where I bought the phone from.
So when I can't use the Netcom Norway app for checking balance... WTF?
Well... see this thread for more info:

Hey can anyone help my new vivo fold x chinese phone won't let me send or receive pics or use sms beyond simple text to one person. Can this be fixed or am I out of luck. The phone won't work on 5g like I thought it would in Arizona but does work on 4g.
Are you using the stock Vivo Messaging app that is preinstalled on the Origin Ocean OS operating system, or did you install a third party messaging app like Google Messages? If it is a third party app you need to go into Settings/Permissions scroll down to the app and enable "send MMS". Your carrier will set a limit on the size of MMS texts (usually between 300kb and 1mb) and if you are trying to send a picture larger than that you may have an issue. The stock messaging app will automatically downsize your images before sending them, but for some reason Google Messages (which is the stock app on most other phones) doesn't seem to know to downsize images on this firmware and consequently your MMS will just hang with "sending". I am using Next SMS to replace the stock app and it allows me to send MMS and even set the limit for resizing. I experimented with sending images of different sizes until I hit 1mb, after which they won't send, but with the 1mb limit set it downsizes the images and sends them without a problem. My 5g worked as soon as I toggled on the 'Enable 5g' switch on in Settings/Mobile Networks/Sim 1. My issue is that I don't have any settings to toggle VoLTE on, which I will need as they are shutting down the 3G networks. Without VoLTE even when the phone displays 4G, 4G+, or 5G, it drops to 3G or HSPA when it connects calls.

No luck sadly, toggling 5g on and off still stays on 4g. I tried other messaging apps and set the mms size lower and that still did not help on several apps. And like you I lose mobile data when making a call as it drops 4g to 3g or 2g or nothing. Sadly I regret buying this phone and can't return it, I will try and ask for a return. So on a side note if you know anyone who wants this phone I will sell it at a reduced rate to recoup some of my money. Lol let me know. Or I can throw it up on ebay I guess but it is not for me, too many issues and I am very disappointed and frustrated.

I've dealt with this with OnePlus devices, you just need to call and set your line to "CDMAless"
The only North American carrier that will permit a GSM device to work on the LTE networks without attempting to drop voice calls to 3G (by adding a "CDMAless" note to your account) is Verizon. Most carriers, like the four national Canadian carriers who serve my area, will tell you as they told me: "nope, we won't do that. If you don't want your voice calls to drop to 3G then you need to buy a new device from us". It would just take a few key strokes to add the IMEI of your device and a note that it is a CDMAless provisioned GSM phone to your account, but they won't because they make money selling their own phones. Some carriers will provision VoLTE on 'certified devices' not purchased from them, but here is the catch - they charge a large fee to phone manufacturers to have their devices listed as "certified" on the carrier's network (not that any actual testing is done), and companies like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo won't pay that fee to carriers in regions where they sell only a few phones. In contrast, they have paid the British and most European carriers the certification fee because they sell lots of phones over there. Most Hong Kong mobile phone stores do a thriving business in Britain going back to the days twenty years ago when Hong Kong was still a British colony, and TradingShenzhen, based in mainland China, is a German company that has made duty and tax free imports of Chinese phones into Europe very popular there. I guess if you live in Nova Scotia or Arizona Vivo products won't be 'certified' by local carriers. I have a Huawei Mate 20 X that actually is 'certified' by my carrier and works with VoLTE and WiFi calling, but only because Huawei used to sell a lot of phones here until the government banned Google from working with them and most North Americans have become so Google and Android dependent that they don't want Huawei's new alternative Harmony OS operating system. I did try it out on my Mate 20 X before realizing that without Google Services I couldn't call an Uber or have Gmail update my calendar with important events. I re-flashed Android 12 on the device and I'm still getting monthly patches and security updates. Sorry for the long winded explanation.

Thank you I learned something new... and that new thing is I will buy a Samsung Fold 4 in 4 to 5 months when it releases. I'm too old to care about rooting or doing crazy stuff to make a phone function as a basic phone anymore. I liked the Vivo Fold X on paper sounded awesome but once in North America, not so much, I will be selling it on ebay at a heavy discount to recoup some money and the money loss is just a lesson learned that I am ok with. But I won't be doing this again lesson learned. Thank you for your information though it was a learning experience.
Hi,
I'm in South Africa and I bought a SM-G991U1 (US unlocked version) on Amazon Renewed and everything works fine except for mobile connectivity.
I get the "Your phone's not registered on a network" message if I try to make a call and mobile data does not work.
I've tried:
- Resetting network settings
- Manually setting APN details
- Tried a few other SIMs from different carriers as well that work in other phones
- Checked IMEI info, doesn't seem corrupted or 'null'
I suspect that the modem firmware or something else is region specific to the US on this model and not working on South African networks as the phone does support our network bands according to GSMarena.
Would it be possible to re-flash the modem firmware or fix the issue some other way?
Hello I'm having the same problem, have you find any info about it?
Not much, I went to a carrier store and the phone seemed to work alright there after rebooting the phone with the sim card installed. I am starting to suspect that the phone doesn't like my closest cell tower maybe? Or possibly doesn't like using another carrier's mobile tower?
No idea.
I've since bought an identical but South African version of the same S21 which works flawlessly.
As a quick rant for anyone considering buying from Amazon: I tried to return the phone, shipping it back to the US and everything, only for Amazon to refuse to pay the import duties on it once it arrived, forcing DHL send it right back and charging me for it again
