Increase touchscreen sensitivity for use with gloves? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I just upgraded from Note4 to V30 and with colder weather approaching I'm missing one very useful feature.
My Note4 had an option where it would increase touch screen sensitivity for better use with gloves. Once enabled even the crappiest conductive gloves work perfectly with that option enabled.
Take a look at this photo I found. That option is at the very bottom https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ewAsi95bJio/maxresdefault.jpg
Last night I used my V30 with my Moshi gloves and found the experience to be very frustrating. About half the touches would not register and I constantly had to keep tapping over and over.
So am I missing this option somewhere in V30 or is there some way I can increase touch screen sensitivity for use with gloves?

Can it be more finger friendly ?

Hi
There's allot of improvements, shells, skins..... that are finger-friendly...
I Really like it finger-friendly, it is more comfortable and usually looks good.
I've noticed that the TOUCH PAD of the IPhone is very sensitive for finger touch, while the Hermes needs a very hard touch (Relatively).
Is there a (hard) sensitive touchpad (Digitizer) for heremes ? (something more finger-touch friendly...)
I was looking in ebay, and noticed that there are 2 kinds of Digitizers, does someone knows the difference ?
Digitizer G1
Digitizer G2
Tnx.
I'm afraid neither of those will do what you might think they'd do. The term digitizer refers to a module that consists of a matrix to sense particular change of state in one (or more) given point(s) and translate that as coordinates data in digital form.
There are maybe 2 revisions of them in the ebay links you attached but I don't think they work differently, perhaps one has better sensitivity or responsiveness.
Digitizers activated by pressure works differently than ones activated by mere touch (capacitance). The first is noticable by the requirement of stylus or something to "press" a point to "short circuit" a tiny area in 2 thin layers that are stacked together, they know where the "short circuit" is and report that as the touch point. The latter is activated by the fact that the touch actually alters the "electrical charge" of that particular area.
Common portable devices nowadays still use the press-type, usually it is completely separated from and installed on top of the LCD (if you look closely to your screen when it's turned off you'll notice tiny dots which is the matrix), that's why sometimes they slide around and you have to recalibrate your touch screen. I hope this makes sense.
KaiserVideoDriver has it correct. That's why the iPhone has such a sensative touch screen. Also, I believe that the resistance based touch screens that our phones use are not capable of registering mulitple touch pionts, which is why Apple had to go the opposite route...in order to facilitate the multi touch interface.
From time to time I try and use my Hermes without the stylus, but I constantly find myself either tiring of the constant finger prints and smudges, or I get aggrevated over the touch screen seeming to have a fit from time to time and register touches wrong. It seems to be calibrated for the stylus (i.e. a small, firm touch point); the larger, spread out touch point of a meaty fingertip seems to drive the screen crazy and cause it to register the touch to either of the upper corners. Infuriating when it closes a program or tries to cancel an SMS on you.

Touch screen non responsive in landscape

I am having issues with my touch screen not taking my input when in landscape. It works when I change to portrait and usually works when switching back to landscape but then stops again. I've noticed this playing angry birds and browsing in IE. Anything I can do to correct this?
edit: I think I found my issue. If i'm touching the bottom area where the capacitive buttons are the screen won't respond. Is this normal?
I find the sensitivity of the screen is less than the Focus. The Focus suffered from bad touch sensitivity if you didn't hold it (like laying it on the bed). If they can get full registry access to the phone, I'll bet the sensitivity is adjustable.

others have mentioned that touching the soft keys even slightly makes the rest of the screen unresponsive.
I don't know why capacitive buttons are so popular... they might be 'cool' but... hardbuttons aren't accidentally activated, they don't mess up the screen and they provide REAL tactile feedback.
Plus you can search for and use hardbuttons when they are out of sight. With my TV and BD player I have to put my face to the buttons with a magnifying class to see the icons because feeling them activates them and they have no backlights :/

They're popular because presumably they cost less than actual buttons, easier to manufacture, and are less likely to break or need maintainence.
The screen's glass is already set up to be capacitive, so extending that down to the "button" area requires virtually no additional cost - they only need 3 tiny LED's underneath, rather than housing full mechanical buttons, with a separate plastic overlays ontop on the buttons.

Any way to completely disable touch input on the notch area?

Ok, so I used the "hide the notch" option, and all full screen games doesn't go past the notch area. I liked that the corners are rounded too to give a symmetrical look. However, I discovered that if I pressed on the screen while holding on to the notch area, the screen doesn't respond. Is there any way to solve this other than displaying the notch? Because sometimes my palm would cover the notch area while playing games.
I was also thinking about it.
This is really something Xiaomi should consider for a future version.
I disabled the notch on day one, so I hardly think about having screen in the top area.
I'm holding my phone often in a way that I touch the screen there and then any further touch is detected.

Mi 10 and Mi note 10 Edge sensitivity problem

I am very sad.
I bought CC9 pro. Then I bought Mi 10.
The graphic design programs I use do not work on the screen edges.
No Sensitivity.
Something is blocking.
Curved edges are detected a few ms late.
Edges (Curved region) do not work well. Sensing sensitivity is variable according to the direction of movement.
Free screen please.
A setting please.
game Turbo mode on the curved edges, does not work, does not solve the problem.
Nobody cares.
There is no phone left for 15 years. I don't want such a problem.
Stop limiting screen sensitivity.

Hi
I believe there are settings on the phone to adjust the edge sensitivity. Have you tried this?
let us know, my MI-10 is due on thursday
Thanks
Z
Anyone else can confirm if this is an issue or not?
This is not an issue.
You can adjust the sensitivity of the edge area in the settings, just like @zetex said.
Options are "Standard (recommended)", "Big area", "Small area" and even "User defined".
No complains here
No problem for me, and I have it on the recommended edge settings

Ghost touches

So I'm watching youtube on the dual screen using landscape and I want to sleep the main screen so i touch sleep main screen option on the dual screen tab tool, it shows a prompt saying main screen will dim to save battery and swipe to dismiss. I dont touch or swipe anything and the prompt swipes itself away and screen undims or sometimes doesn't even dim. This is also the case with Call of duty mobile, when I'm playing the game in battle royal mode the mini map enlarges randomly even if I don't touch it, and the voice chat options will engage and open without me touching those as well. Anyone else has this problem? Any solutions?
I could have sworn I saw a post earlier about ghost touches, though I can't seem to find the thread it was in at the moment.
I've been using the phone heavily since I got it on April 1st, and I have not experienced this issue at all.
Any chance you had an LG phone prior to this and used LG Switch to transfer over all of your stuff?
I've read reports here that doing so can cause some pretty serious battery drain and/or lag issues, so there could be other bugs as another side-effect.
Have you tried a factory reset?

Yeah I think I read that thread. I haven't tried a reset since I already used so much data to download apps and don't want to setup the phone again. I did use the google cloud restore for my contacts and I also had the t mobile April security update. Mejilan can you tell me if you can put your main screen to sleep while watching a youtube video on the dual screen? Please tell me what kind of result you get. Thanks

I set aside the the dual-screen accessory because it's just too uncomfortable to hold for most use-cases.
I'll go dig it up, plug it in, and give it a shot later, when I have some free time, and report back.

If you play a YT video on the second screen and lock/sleep your phone, the second screen goes to sleep as well.
I didn't bother with headphones for this test, and noticed that the audio comes out of the phone's speakers.
It appears that the second screen doesn't have speakers of its own.
So yeah, you cannot watch something on the second screen while having the phone asleep.
And it make sense. It's just a screen. No second pair of speakers. No second headphone jack. No separate battery. No second set of modems, etc.

It actually was working for me last night as far as the putting main screen to sleep function but call of duty still acts up I'm hoping the update for the game on May 1St will fix, but sure whenever you get a chance...

Actually you CAN watch youtube on the second screen and sleep/dim the main screen by using the floating dual screen button. It has an option asking if you want to sleep dim the main screen to conserve battery life. It does work for me now, I'm not sure why it was going wonky on me when I first posted but hopefully that it doesn't do it anymore. I'm guessing the tmobile April security update did the trick. It's just I have phantom touches on call of duty still.

This is happening to me as well when I'm playing PubG Mobile. The ghost touches are happening not on the map but to the left of that. On another LG V60, the device would get random dead zones as well.
I'm going to do the following test and suggest you do the same and report back your results.
1. wait until the ghost touches start happening and flip the phone around. hopefully the ghost touch continues to happen in the same exact location of the physical screen, and it triggers a different button
2. remove the screen protector and try the tests again
are you using a screen protector?
might process a warranty replacement if the results are reproduceable

Oh, that is good to know. I'm not using the dual-screen attachment anymore (typing in portrait mode is IMPOSSIBLE with it), but I only ever used the Dual-Screen notification shade tile to enable the second screen, not the pill button thing. I should have explored our options more thoroughly. Thank you for correcting me.
Edit - I have recently added a tempered glass screen protector to my phone, and while it completely screwed with my fingerprint biometrics (I had to delete the fingerprints and redo them), the protector itself is not causing any ghost touches for me. And once I redid the fingerprints, there have been no further issues there either.

Yes I am using a screen protector and I was actually thinking that might be the problem, although it seems like a solid install. I just got the update for cod season 6 and I'm downloading now. I'll see if that solves the problem. I'll also try what you suggested and then post results
Update: so the cod update did not fix the issue, but I tried doing as you suggested and flipped the phone around and the problem went away. I then tried flipping it back to original and problem persisted. I think it is the tempered glass. I don't want to remove it since it cost me 40 bucks. Any suggestions?

So I installed the update for cod and it still had the ghost touch problem with the top right side of the screen, iflipped the phone per what jd254 suggested and I didn't get the phantom touches. I'm assuming it is the tempered glass that is causing it. I dont want to remove it cause it cost me 40 bucks.
2nd update: so I tried taking it out of the dual screen case and notice it doesn't have phantom touch ( I played a full game of battle royale) so I'm not sure if its the tempered glass or the case. Need to investigate more

Is the case touching the tempered glass anywhere around the the edges? If the case is pressing on the screen protector and lifting or peessing it even the smallest amount that could cause phantom touches maybe..just an idea
FWIW, I'm using both a tempered glass screen protector and a case that wraps around to grip the front of the phone a bit, and I'm not getting any phantom touches at all.
The case is NOT rubbing up against the edges of the screen protector, however. Which is fine, because if it were, it could potentially dislodge it.
Or, I suppose, cause phantom touches.

Ok more investigating and playing codm I notice that the mini map opens up when i perform a touch combination with my thumbs. So the map gets triggered when I press and hold up on the left side virtual joystick to sprint and press the jump virtual button on the right simultaneously. I can't recreate what button presses open the voice chat box, but now I have to strike the dual case as being the problem along with the tempered glass, at least i assume those aren't causing the ghost touches.
For anyone having touch issues, as a troubleshooting aid: enable developer options, and then toggle on "Show touches" and "Show touch data". Might help figure out what is going on.

I'm getting VERY interesting results.
1. dead spots: I moved my finger up the right side of the screen to look up. my character did not look up, which I would assume there was a dead spot before. This is incorrect. I can see the screen registered using that option mentioned above. the screen registered the action, but didn't pass it to the software?
2. FPS drops: I assume it's an FPS drop because everything was laggy when this happened. (PubG mobile was set to max settings, and runs 100% fine, until now) I was flying the helicopter, so I had several fingers on the screen at the same time, with a lot of rotational movements. the screen doesn't clear all of these movement data until I literally take all my fingers off the screen for half a sec. When I did that, it stop lagging.
3. ghost touches: Each touch on the screen has an x and y axis point to tell the software where it's being touched. With several finger on the screen (sometimes 2, but commonly with three or more), I noticed that the y axis for my left thumb and the x axis for my right thumb was creating those ghost touches! The screen would combine the x and y axis from different fingers to create a touchpoint on the screen.
so I don't care too much about 1 and 2, but... what can I do about 3?

Yeah I noticed a combination of touches triggers the ghost touch on call of duty, I could also be having the combinations trigger ghost touches in other game but I need to test more
