I'm not much of a selfie enthusiast but is the front camera really as bad as they say or is it just not up to par with other flagships??
No, the front camera is just fine. I've covered this ad nauseum in a couple of threads around this forum.
I think it's terrible. It's blurry and washed out. I hope a software update can fix this.
It's not the camera.

I wonder if a software update will fix some of the issues with the camera like focus etc.. Does anyone know? Also, does the new Mate 7 have the same internal hardware for the camera since they are both 13mp? Guy on huawei chat said yes but I think he just read that both were same resolution.

I really do hope it does. The front facing camera is alright, can't really complain, but the rear is quite annoying.
What sort of issues are you having? I've had excellent results with the camera. I'm 100% stock, no mods, kernels or anything.
I don't use the huawei camera app or google. I use the Camera FV-5 app, because it has a ton of customizations.
I took this one this past Easter. Other than being cropped, straight from the camera on the Mate2.

That's a great pic. I noticed what most seem to notice when I googled. The camera has a focus issue and won't seem to lock on. Daily I'm taking pics and you think you got a good shot then the picture is blurry. My gf took some good shots with hers but the object has to be non moving with perfect light and just stand there and wait for the focus to grab versus all the other phones I've had before. I downloaded many different apps and took the same shot with all of them but non seem to do better and some weren't even capable of using 13mp. I'll check out the FV-5, thank you.
That picture is actually quite bad. Poor saturation and quite underexposed.... but meh, it's a phone camera. Pretty flower though!
I think the HAM2 rear camera could definitely be improved in software. It's my opinion that the front facing camera actually works better than the rear camera half the time. Take video for example... try shooting video in a somewhat darkened room with both cameras - you'll find out that the rear camera suffers a horrible loss of framerate while the video from the front facing camera is smooth as silk.
The front camera also has odd tap-to-focus issues especially when flash is enabled.
With that being said it's a cellphone camera and I've definitely seen much worse. And I love the question in the original post.... no one knows the answer but Huawei and their software development team. How would any of us know what Huawei is including in their Android 5.x based update? I'll still be quite surprised if we even get one, and that's WITH the Huawei blog announcements and the so far worthless 'beta' registration site.....

I was thinking more if anyone has noticed improvements in camera in previous upgrades of other devices so someone could comment "hey when the Honor 6 got it's new OS the camera problems were largely improved" or something like that. For sure nobody can know what the Huawei peeps are doing unless there is a Huawei peep on our lil ole forum. I'm sure you're right, if we even get an update they'll act like there was never an issue with the camera and do nothing. My friend ordered the Mate 7 but I read a review that sounded like it's the same camera as ours still and that's an expensive phone.

It sure doesn't match my dSLR, but like you said...it's a pinhole cell phone sensor...not much wiggle room.
Okay, I love this phone. I love the camera. Just work with the settings to get what you want. Now, THE ONLY THING, is the warp zones in the front facing camera. Always try to get the faces in the center of the screen or else itll appear warped.
Try it out and see for yourself. I guess that's the downside to having a long phone. The lens in the camera has to recompensate and redistribute the photons evenly.

And cant forget about the alien beauty filter! Makes it look like you did some zoomers!

Hey guys, so I picked up a G4 for cheap and just sold it on eBay for a little bit of profit. The front facing camera really impressed me, compared to my daily driver G3. I was looking at picking up a V10, but I am aware that the V10's cameras are not the same as the G4's.
So my question is, since many of the samples for the front facing camera(s) on the V10 look rather lack-luster, would there be a way to modify the camera app to bump up the saturation and increase the sharpness of the front cameras for the V10? Think anything would be improved with an update? I know many people don't really care and cannot tell the difference, but still. They almost look muddy in some comparisons, and lack the saturation and sharpness of other cameras. Otherwise the phone seems sweet.
Thanks!
You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I don't take selfies often, but I guess it is as good it can be
go on lets see your faces!
Now, that's just the right thread for me! Being part of the narcissistic generation—an in-born trait of my gen— I can and have a right to shine here! Yay!
The picture quality is 7 out of 10. That's a good rating! There are flaws, no insult intended. I know I can't expect Samsung to take the front seat and destroy its competitors with a 20MP front camera. They've done this starting the smartphone era and have since been in line with others. Still, a guy can dream!
In my honest narcissistic opinion, the LG scores higher in that department with an 8.5 out of 10.
Keep in mind that in my rating a 10 is not possible anyways and that's because front cameras are an insult to self-centered people like me. Too weak, hiding my beautiful skin.:cyclops:
As much as I love this phone and the rear camera, I honestly think that the front facing camera is very lacking. My iPhone 6s captures much more detail in my face. The Galaxy S7e seems to have a blur toward everything (yes, the smoothing features are off).
Maybe this is just the company's way of slowly removing selfies from existence.
Hardware or software issue? Still to smooth with a thirdparty camera app?

Not gonna lie, the front camera is like taking a picture through a potato.
Edit: I tried a non-stock camera and it's actually a really good camera, so it's definitely software related. So WTF Samsung?
Mine is defective so it never actually focuses on my face or anything for that matter, I compared with an S6 I have and the difference is huge, the S6 focused very well.
They use the same exact front camera so I'd venture to say its software related and will be addressed by Samsung.
My replacement will be here soon though which makes me happy.
the quality is amazing.
maybe there is a better camera app then stock?
Haven't really used it but if it's anything like the s6 one it's great.
better than S6 cam, more wider and i like the flash feature in front.
Very bad: it lacks details, too smooth (and yeah, I've disabled beauty face), not possible to tweak the brightness... Even the iPhone 6 1.2Mpix front facing camera is way better.
too smooth
is this hardware or software. .my selfie are too smooth even i turn the beauty off. .is this defective or just normal?
My S7 are to smooth as well (All filter turned off)
Compared to my S6 it's night and day diffense i favor of the s6.
All s7:s i have seen have had this issue so i think it's the beauty filter that somehow is not turning itself off.
Also the s6 seems to apply a sharpning mask to compensate the lower resolution.
Not so bad
Rear camera is awesome even can beat Apple but selfies are not so good
I have an exynos s7 edge and I agree that the front-facing camera sucks balls. Even with beauty mode turned all the way down my face looks airbrushed.. Really annoying!!
I sold my S7 because a) battery life not what expecting b) software wasn't to my taste and C) THE WORST SELFIE CAMERA I HAVE EVER USED
Apple is stil king of the selfie... Selfie pics on S7 don't really turn out to well in lowlow light... Still much better coming from my s5 that one was awful!
I don't take selfies often. But I know that both sides camera regulations is same. So image quality will be good.
Every site specs say front cam AF. But this is a rare thing in phones.
Edit: Apparently it does.
How is the camera quality? Im coming from S22u
Battery is ok. Zoom definetly not the camera to shine. Ultrawide and standard lens are very good. However, coming from an S22u you might have a downgrade..
Main camera captures a lot of details and offers a very good (and bright) night mode. Ultrawide and tele are "ok cameras". They can take good pictures in some conditions but don't expect much, they are not in S22u or i13 Pro territory. You'll notice too that the default camera app tends to oversaturate colors. Sometimes overly So. I got Gcam for that reason. The front cameras for selfies are also ok cameras. In poor light they are almost unusable for me. I recommend using the main camera for selfies. Find N is a great phone but the cameras are not the highlight.
Cameras on this Oppo are very good. Samsung S22 Ultra is plagued with horrible shutter lag nobody talks about. Not anymore since I upgraded to Oppo find N. And here you have proper 50mm portrait focal length unlike 75 (3x) they now put in every flag****.
