Camera buggy after changing media_profiles - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

I've downloaded modified media_profiles.xml and changed default one on my phone, and since then my camera(especially video is really bad, and camera keeps crashing on HDR mode). I've tried to revert changes by bringing back my old media_profiles.xml which I've backed up, but everything is still the same. Even after flashing newer weekly MIUI Pro.by situation is unchanged. What can I do to revert every change about camera?
P.S Video looks like it's 320*240 resolution with very poor bandwidth and with distortions, and when I want to change resolution in settings there is no that option anymore.
What can I do?

I too have the same problem as I replaced media_profiles.xml for SLO MO in GCam.
Now I'm really screwed as nor SLO MO works and neither Video quality is good.

[REQ] HTCCamera.apk with HDR and Panoramic

There is a post in the EVO 3D forums about how to add both panoramic and HDR camera features in. My problem is, when I try to decompile the .apk I get errors that cause compiling the .apk again to fail.
I actually already have the panoramic effect, but I'm hoping for HDR as well.
Can someone who has both of these features upload a copy of their HTCCamera.apk file?
EDIT: Trust me. I tried searching and fixing the decompile problem myself, but I cannot succeed.

I'm already running viperROM v1.3 with a GingerBread theme, custom lockscreen, custom wallpaper, custom boot animation, and a few other features.
You can guess I'm not willing to flash a new ROM simply for the HDR upgrade.
Can one of you running the ROMs with both Panorama and HDR in the camera app upload your HTCCamera.apk file?
Quick question. What is HDR?

Here is HTCCamera.apk with all the three extra features pulled from Shooter-Rewind-3D-RLS2.1:
http://www.multiupload.com/LLTGOUT6S5
I messed around with it tonight, and I've noticed so far how Panorama and Burst modes will freeze up the camera application. The HDR mode does allow it to take pictures, but I'm not sure if it's actually doing its function.
My old HTCCamera.apk that didn't have the HDR and Burst modes had the Panorama part working fine. I'm not sure what's up with only the HDR mode working now, but I'll look around.

Deodexed, I presume.....
Nandroids are for sissies.
Bang.
Would love for this to happen! I'm running the stock rom and get an error when trying to install the above rom.
I get an error, also.. If I copy over the file to system/app, and change the permissions to match the original apk, it breaks my camera function..
Edit: Nevermind, I just updated to Freeza's 2.1 version.. I don't see any real difference between normal and "HDR..."

I extracted this from Shooter rewind RLS3, and its working on stock deodexed ROM. No burst, but HDR and panorama both work, no crashing.
heres a link to it in my drop box. http://db.tt/3o0XvuP
again i cant take credit for it, all i did was unzip the RLS3 download and copy the HTCcamera app.
My own work
I've been working on the stock camera for a while. I didn't take any of this from anyone's ROM, except for the panorama from which I started. In fact, I didn't even know some of it already existed (should've checked). Anyhow my attached app has the shutter sound silenced, HDR and Panorama enabled, and the image compression set to 100. I don't think anyone else has fixed the image compression yet. You'll notice that the saved images are ~ twice as big as before at the same resolution.
I've also been working on trying to store the images in an uncompressed format, but it looks like Android is broken for RAW images. I'm still looking into Kernel mods.

Are the pictures taken with your modified apps both larger and higher quality, or just larger? Does the compression set to 100% make it better quality? Also can the shutter sound be toggled or is it permanently off? Thanks
They're better quality because there is no additional JPEG compression. However the pictures don't look amazingly better. I wish I could get hdr mode to do something. I could restore the sound if you want, just let me know if you like my mods.
In addition, after looking through the source code we should be expecting an update from HTC with burst mode and hdr enabled. There's drivers from a company called Scalado that are bring called for those modes. They're probably incomplete at the moment which is why they're probably not enabled yet.

Completely uninstall the stock camera first with root uninstaller (free in the market) or titanium etc. Then after you reinstall, you will notice that the options remain.

Thanks for the APK! I very much enjoy the 100 compression. When you said, " I wish you could get the hdr to do something," were you reffering to the HDR mode looking exactly the same as 'no effect' ? This was my finding at least or maybe I dont know how to use it.
Thanks,
John
Updated!
I restored the sound and replaced the mode images for panorama and HDR with the images from the version posted from the ROM earlier in this thread. So credit goes to whoever made those icons.

Yes. There seems to be a bug in the HDR code. It should be taking three photos, each with a different exposure, then combining the three images. I don't think it's doing that. This is sort of the same feature as burst mode, which doesn't seem to work and is why it's not in my version of the APK.

Can you make one without the burst and HDR since theydoesn't work (ocd) just with panorama, compression off and no sound?

Seems like photos are taking with a resolution of 2MP or better, 8MP (screenshot 2).... we all know that's imposible because LWW's front camera max resolution is 0.3MP ... Also changing resolution to a 16:9 glitches too (screenshot 3) Before taking any snap camera looks like normal (screenshot 1)
the back camera is working well
so i don't know what's happening with this... i tried to delete data of Camera app... with no luck
... well haha before this i changed some values in the build.prop but when i reverted these back the issue still here ...
there's some to do or change? any configuration file to say camera what resolution should have to take photos?
I don't want to do a full flash...

@DiegoJp
I have absolutely no idea why it does so. If a third-party camera is working, it excludes camera corruption. My advice would be to get an camera apk from tft file from xda with appropriate 4.0.4 rom for your device and replace it in /system/app. All files are in General section in thread Tutorials, Firmware, FAQ (I am not allowed to post links yet).
If that doesn't help, i think you will need to reflash your rom. You can do it without wiping data, but you need to uncheck proper option in flashtool. You will loose root and recovery (if you have one) but I suppose it is better than nothing.

[Q] i9100 Camera cropped image (zoom view) after upgrade to Cyanogenmod

Since upgrade to the Cyanogenmod, the camera on my i9100 is making zoomed pictures.
Digital zoom is set to 1.0, so theoretically there is NO zoom set, however when compared with another i9100 pictures are cropped.
To have the same view area I had to zoom to 2x on stock rom!
Picture quality is also very poor especially in macro mode (it's having problems focusing).
Currently I have the 11 revision (4.4.4) of the Cyanogenmod (nighty from 07/07/2014). Previous CM was behaving the same way.
All photos are saved as 3264 x 2448 resolution.
I like this software and don;t want to go back to stock rom but I also need a good camera, so your help would be highly appreciated.
Edit: I have downgraded to stock ROM and problem is now gone, so it must be something with CM.
I have since tried 3 different KitKat ROMs (C-Rom, Neat and Slim) and all suffer from the same problem - poor quality of BOTH cameras (front and rear) compared to stock Samsung ROM.
All rear cameras capture cropped photos compared to old stock ROM.
I don't think it's a fault of my mobile, since after downgrading to stock ROM everyhitng is back to normal, so it must be KitKat. I am just surprised that no one else noticed this problem
Did you disable True View in the camera app?

I could not find this feature in CM11, but found it in other KitKat system. After disabling camera crops a bit, I can live with that, however quality of photos is still bad compared with stock ROM. I will try to upload some photos today to show the difference.
After upgrading to SlimSaber, camera is taking good quality photos again, so problem solved.

[MOD][TESTING] Camera Sensor Fix and Google Camera

[SIZE=+2][MOD][TESTING] Camera Sensor Fix and Google Camera[/SIZE]
Please test, share issues, questions and offer help!
What does this mod do?
It replaces the libmmcamera_imx318*.so and libmmcamera_imx268*.so files inside /system/vendor/lib/ with ones I edited.
It also adds a missing reference to libadsprpc.so in /system/etc/public.libraries.txt on custom firmwares.
WarningFrom my experience this mod can't really break anything. At most you'll have a non working camera. In this situation you need to either flash your ROM again or restore these files from a backup.
If you're on MIUI use the installer that doesn't change your public.libraries.txt file! Otherwise your device won't boot.
What does it fix?
It fixes a sensor and active array size mismatch issue in our devices. It makes a lot of google camera mods work (to some degree).
It seems to have also fixed the cropping bug everyone has been complaining about. Since the array size mismatch appears to be cropping the resolution down to the next working one.
Shut up already, I just want to take some great looking photos!
Go ahead and flash one of these zip files:
CFW: https://mega.nz/#!sfAERYxL!WdJO3u9sFwddB22echsp0-2AYsW1nVIynROo3rVjeqQ [v5] [14-05-2018]
MIUI: https://mega.nz/#!UexHDThY!O2CUQ1GVqG9CSAqfgMRXthKVq4vgPPq6-wbKflAGbio
Install the following gcam mod:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GCam_5.1.018_by_SerJo87_1.6RC2_test4c.apk
What's working:
HDR+ and HDR enchanced (Back and Front)
Portrait Mode (Back and Front)
Zero Shutter Lag
Motion Photos
Video Recording
Slow Motion (120 and 240 fps)
What's Not Working:
Nothing!
What isn't working very well:
Light flickering in 240fps slowmo.
Low exposure in Lens Blur. (The current fix is to set the Lens Blur resolution to the default 5MP)
Low exposure in Panorama.
Cropped 4k Recording (Hardware enabled EIS. Doesn't seem to be a bug.)
Missing toggle between HDR modes on the back camera (It takes photos with HDR+)
Recommendations
If you don't mind losing Motion Photos on the Back Camera turn on the Use Hexagon DSP option for slightly better performance and stability
Change the HDR+ parameters to Pixel 2017 stable.
Turn on Portrait ZSL mode
Change Base model inside Tuning back cam to Nexus 6P. (More detailed photos plus better and faster autofocus)
SerJo87 Google Camera's default tuning settings are tweaked for another smartphone's camera sensor. As a personal recommendation go into Tuning back cam and disable the Tuning master switch for it to use the default Base Model values. I've spent hours tweaking and have found the default Nexus 6P values to be the best ones.
Change the Lens blur megapixels to 5MP. (Fixes the low exposure issue)
Compatibility
Personally tested and fully working on the latest AospExtended.
Reported semi-working on the latest unofficial Resurrection Remix.
Reported working on the latest Lineage 15.1.
Reported working on crDroid.
Reported working in MIUI.
This mod is not needed on the latest Cardinal-AOSP. Psy_Man has included this fix.
Google Camera Mod Repository
Go grab a bunch of other google camera mods if you're feeling adventurous and hope to find a more compatible one.
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
I need testers, helpers, anything and everything is welcome!
Why I did it
Coming from a Redmi Note 4X, I was pretty letdown by the lack of a working google camera mod for my new Mi Note 2. I upgraded my phone in almost every aspect except I was taking far inferior quality photos. This drove me to find out what was going on with our device.
Getting technical
Going through several gcam mods I noticed a pattern. This error to be exact:
E/QCamera (510): <MCI><ERROR> update: 102: invalid input: active_array [5344, 4016], sensor size [5488, 4112]
For some reason, the active array size is smaller than the sensor size. Which cannot happen. This is what I fixed in the libmmcamera_imx318_primax.so file.
If you want a detailed explanation of what I changed in the file go over here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-2/development/fix-mi-note-2-camera-blobs-t3794443
The missing reference to libadsprpc.so prevents the google camera (and any other non system app) from accessing the Snapdragon 821's hexagon DSP. The reference is needed for apps to offload processing to the DSP and the google camera tries to use it for HDR background processing. It should make the app and the phone a lot more stable and responsive even when taking consecutive shots.
Changelog
[v3] In version 3 I started replacing both libmmcamera_imx318.so and libmmcamera_imx318_semco.so as well, with the same fixes. I'm assuming these files are for the different possible CMOS our phones can have (sony, semco or primax).
[v4] In Version 4 I also replace libmmcamera_imx268.so and libmmcamera_imx268_sunny.so. These Front Camera files were also fixed and no longer crash the app when switching to and from Portrait mode.
Very interesting! I'm flashing it in a moment!

Keep up man. Wonderful job!
Very good progress!
I'm running the latest RR. Flashed and booted up no problem.
Just having issues with Urkill's camera:
It stops working when switching from mode to mode (modes work correctly)
Video on the back camera is wayyyy zoomed it. I think "Double stabilisation" is on. Note 2 is EIS by default, AFAIK, then, paired with the app's stabilization, it might be cropping out a lot of video real-estate. But this is just a guess.
Thanks for your work! Very happy with the progress!

Hmm maybe miui's public.libraries file has libs that are missing from the file I'm flashing. I'll confirm that tonight.
I also forgot to mount /vendor in my installer script and that may have caused some issues. I'll also upload a fixed version later tonight.
Sorry for any headaches.

Yeah. UriKill's mod is optimized for the redmi note 4. But is still the most stable of the bunch. I've noticed things like switching to the front camera and then switching to portrait mode will crash the camera but doing it the other way around works.
The note 2 does have built in image EIS and UriKill's mod enables Google camera's stabilization on 1080p. But shouldn't be doing it in 4k and yet the image gets cropped a lot more in 4k. I need to figure out what's going on.
New version of the script is up. I forgot to mount /vendor, so it wasn't really working unless you had manually mounted /vendor before flashing it.
Give it a try again if it didn't work last time.

Editing the /system partition makes miui roms unbootable unless you disable both dm-verify and forced encryption.

If you had another google camera mod installed usually just uninstalling doesn't delete all data. And some mods have the camera.enable_pd and camera.enable_pd_blur flags turned on in Developer Settings.
These need be to off. Check if that's the issue.
Front camera Portrait Mode also needs the camera.gouda.front flag to be on.

It shouldn't bootloop. I don't think miuipro enforces dm-verifiy. And my mod doesn't change any important system files.
If it does bootloop, try installing LazyFlasher and see if that fixes it.
Either way, put the miuipro, kernel and magisk installation files in your internal storage before testing.
If you run into a bootloop, just reflash those 3 files, in the above order, and everything will be back as it was.
Testing is really appreciated! Thank you!

An insane GCAM camera port will make your OP8P a camera BEAST

I'm totally speechless, today i swapped my S20 + for a OP8P, and TBH the camera is better but they where close.
I spent quite a bit of time, and as an avid GCAM user i tried MANY GCAM ports, all where pretty much crap, or not really better than stock, but, BUT! THAN, i found Parrot043 mod. I installed made my usual tweaks, and what i have saw is literally INSANE, this camera mod, literally destroy everything i have ever tried, and believe me i tried hundreds of them in my life.
1. If you have a previous GCAM, open the camera, hold and press on the icon on the homescreen, press app info, clear cache, and data.
2. Uninstall the app, reboot the phone. Than install Parrot 043 link > https://gofile.io/d/BpCWFx - also alternative host - https://easyupload.io/k6t42a
3. Go into the settings of the GCAM, turn on HDR enhanced, into advanced section, into HDR frames, and set 35, enable sabre, just under the HDR enhanced frames option.
4. Restart the camera app, go into darkness, take a photo with your camera app, and than take a photo with the GCAM mod, BE AMAZED.
P.S. Do not touch anything else, maybe turn on H265 for videos, and 4K for the back camera, increase video bitrate to 50mbps + and that's it.
P.P.S. ALWAYS make sure you have HDR enhanced on! it makes taking moving objects harder/blurry, but for low light its EPIC.
And here is camera comparasion of stock, night mode, and GCAM

OnePlus 8 Pro IN2025 10.5.8 xXx rom currently.
Had gcam installed from xXx, force stopped, cleared data, uninstalled with reflashing rom to remove as system app, then rebooted. Installed the other. Tried clearing data, rebooting again, made the one you recommended a system priv app, but it keeps crashing the moment I open it. I can't even open settings, because it crashes on open.
I have tried modifying the permissions, tried a previous version, still crashes on start. At the time, no other gcam folder.

Its the sabre i think, you need to somehow turn it off, sometimes older GCAM ports mix with new and bugs happen, its either that, or its the sabre. In order to fix this, IF IT IS THE SABRE, you will need to wipe cache data from recovery or even FORMAT the phone, look at the photos, the upgrade is ENORMOUS, but it depends of how much you need it, i would suggest for someone with the same version as your model/firmware, test the mod to see if its the sabre or not, i had this issue on my Mi Note 10, all GCAM ports looked the same, no improvements, i tried everything only the format make the settings change post installation.
EDIT, it might be even the rom! i just saw you are on custom, sorry buddy.
Always keen to give GCAM a go (not sure why i have such a soft spot for it lol)...
Anyways, thanks for sharing this. Attached are a few samples of me jumping into a store room with the door slightly opened (it's pretty dim inside).

I can confirm it's related to the xXx rom. Uninstalled completely and the camera installed and worked fine, but when you reinstall the camera breaks.

Interesting. I wonder what is causing it to break?

I'm curious myself. After confirming, I installed other modded camera apk's and they work correctly.
This thread has me very interested.. @xXx - any chance you could glance at this at some point and see if it warrants inclusion in an xXx magisk rom future update? No pressure, just a thought. Some of the picture samples do indeed appear impressive! Thank you!!
Thanks for sharing this, will look deeper into it (presently on Urnyx GCam port).... Just as an info:
This GCam and many more ports are on Celsozavedos excellent Gcam Port hub !

The difference is much more apparent when there is less light, but even here the GCAM is superior. Can you post full res photos please? thanks.

Urnyx is also great and stable, but sadly it lacks exposure in low light, (darker photos) and the noise reduction can kill details. Parrot can see where eyes cannot, very good.
OP camera is better in low light than this, and you can't use any of the other cameras, so until they solve that problem for the OP 8 pro I'll be sticking to the stock camera.
You lose more functionality than you gain in picture quality.

Figured out the same. Low light is way to sharp and dark.

And yes you lose ability of other cameras.
But for the moment this gcam is my friend in making low light pictures ?????
Thanks for sharing

Stock for scale,

Hello. But this is good only for the night photo or is good in every situation? What is sabre option? We dont need to choose an xml file? Thanks and i like this tipe of treadh
mhhh i actually tried different google gcams but until now - and since the last update - the stock cam is the best one for me, just in case with a lot of ( direct sun)light (google gcam often blows the sky just into white) and also in dark environments the stock cam is better than the gcam. But i think, gcams and stock cam could be better with updates over time, the software for the sensor has a much higher optimization potential.

This GCAM is different. Havent tested it alot in daylight, but it should win even in daylight. No the stock camera is not even close to being better or equal to GCAM, you can see in the picture, or test by yourself.

No need for XML.
Sabre is a better HDR merge metod, it should offers better details especially in low light. Should be in every situation, test it, you got nothing to lose.

What do you mean better than this, are you claiming that i did something wrong with the stock pictures?
And this camera mod is mostly for low light/night mode, you don't need to use it solo and not having the option to use other cameras, you can use both, you use GCAM for low light, and other cameras as needed.
Try it with the settings suggested, and you will forget that the main camera exist in low light.

This camera destroys Urnyx in low light, its like 2 gen ahead. I tested it last night, took like 3 photos, and deleted Urnyx instantly, its not even close.

Why Do you hype this camera when a lot of people tell something different? I tried the mod already and as I said, the Stock cam is better (for me) also in lowlight. I tested it in a very dark room. Also for daylight shots Stock is a way better, just in the view of sharphness.
So, your hyped gcam mod isn't the mother of all cam apps...
Update: I tested again in another Environment and again, Stock is a lot better. Not sure what's wrong with your Stock cam. Are you running the latest Version? ??Seems there is anything wrong on your side. I for myself can't share your opinion.
