Nope. Just flash the latest twrp.img via current twrp. You're all done.

I think you can flash a twrp img file from twrp recovery itself ('Install' and look for 'Images', you should be able to browse to the new recovery img on your internal storage, or if you're rooted you can use an app like Flashify and just download the new recovery, select it through the app and flash.
Thanks for the reply but....

I've got a SGS4 (I9506) with Cyanogen Mod 13.0 and CWM and I want to switch to LineageOS 15.1 which states I should use TWRP.
1. Does it make a difference whether I use CWM or TWRP?
2. How exactly would I proceed to replace CWM with TWRP?
The only answer I found while searching was to "just use GooManager from the Play Store"...
Thanks in advance
Simple you going to go on twrp and see if a offical twrp exist for your device and if not go on the xda page for your phone and see if any modified twrp bulids exist for your phone and then you flash the twrp image in your recovery and reboot recovery will pop up and now you have twrp I hope this works...

well, I'd hope this works too, because that's what I'd have tried without asking here.. but I'd like some assurance

1. It makes difference by not booting into rom when you flash with cwm or older versions of twrp
2. Download twrp from https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=3700668719832239230 .... and flash it with odin..
or extract that .tar and you will find recovery.img then flash that .img with flashify app if you are rooted..
Hope this helps

If you didnĀ“t put a password before then do format data and then flash other rom using adb sideload.
I am very new to this sorry for noob question
I unlocked my bootloader using edl mode and flashed zcx twrp
Can I directly flash roms using zcx recovery or do I have to update the recovery to the official one?

I did it anyway thanks
If you want to flash pie roms, zcx will not work because it is an older version
Download official twrp image (3.2.2 or 3.2.3 (select the right one for your phone)) to anywhere on your phone -> reboot to recovery -> Go to install - > install image - > find the image you just downloaded -> flash -> select "recovery" -> reboot to recovery -> now you hve the official and new working version
