Flashing Custom ROM on Mido - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

hello, i'm new mido user, i'm using ido too. i wanna try flash custom rom on mido, is it necessary to flash firmware before flash custom ROM, and what's the purpose we flash firmware? bcause in ido, we don't need to flash firmware before flash custom ROM. I'm still looking for the answer of my question, i hope someone can help me to explain it, thanks

Hmm, what do you mean by firmware?
The steps are:
1. Unlock boot loader
2. Install custom recovery (TWRP)
3. Install custom ROM

i've read some threads of custom rom like Candy ROM, and they said we should to flash firmware. that firmware is cm14-mido-firmware-20170430.zip i mean

Oh that. That's only required to flash firmware when you're coming from marshmallow based MIUI only. Otherwise no need.
The thing is if you flash firmware before installing Rom, it's not an issue. You're good to go. You can find latest firmware zips from this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/re.../firmware-firmware-update-2017-08-04-t3651537) thread, huge thanks to @Zile995 for the updates!

Question about installing new rom

Hello all. I decided to install Hybrom on my Xperia mini pro (sk17i) but i'm little confused at the moment and don't know what to do. I have installed CM 7.2.0 rom with FreeXperia kernel. If i want to install the Hybrom, i just need to flash stock firmware via flashtool, install Clockwork once again, then install some custom kernel like Rage and then install the rom? Or do something else? And do i need to relock the bootloader to flash stock firmware?
Install stock firmware, install kernel, install ROM. That's all. No relock needed. Custom kernel already includes Recovery so it is not needed.

And when i flash firmware, wipe is automatically done so i don't need to do it manually?

Flashing stock firmware - if you choose it in Flashtool, then yes.
Custom - no, you have to do it yourself before installing the ROM.

Thank you, I really appreciate your answer, but I have one last question. Does the firmware already include rom and kernel, or rom only? And do I have to install newer baseband to it to make the custom rom work?

Stock firmwares in .ftf file already include ROM and kernel both.
Most custom ROMs have their own custom kernel that you need to install yourself. Sometimes it is written in the topic as separate download link, sometimes it is included inside the .zip file, then you need to extract it and flash via fastboot. Check my tutorial, if you need help with it.
Baseband will depend on the custom ROM.

Need help downgrading Moto E

I am running 'Resurrection remix' rom on my Mot E xt-1022. I want to install a kitkat 'custom rom'. Do I need to go through the downgrading process posted here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/general/safely-restore-to-stock-t3165344
or
I just need to flash the kitkat custom rom as we do normally?
The tutorial is for downgrading to stock Kitkat once you has updated to stock Lollipop. With custom ROM that only flash the boot and system partitions there is no need to follow that guide.
PS: I can hardly write in english.

to my knowledge yes you can flash your custom rom normally that is if it dosen't have any bugs .
but the link you posted is to downgrade to stock rom. if you want stock rom then yes you have to go though that process.
if you just need rom to flash and not bootloader download rom from http://motorola-condor.blogspot.in/p/xt-1022motorola-stock-firmware-romxt.html and flash it normally do this at your own risk i am not responsible for consequences

Thank you and @GSebas for the replies. Will try it to soon. The phone becomes so slow on lollipop and marshmallow. Kitkat is probably the best rom for low-end phones. But the inbuilt 4G ROM makes to look at custom ROMs.

root help kenzo

Hi guys
Ive just purchased the great kenzo last week
I just wanted to know how do i root my phone
It has 8.0.5.0
I wanted to know is there a way to do this so that i dont lose warranty
Also as i understand i will have to unlock bootloader to do this and for that i will have to place a request with xiaomi thus voiding my warranty
So is it possible to just root and not void warranty
Also if there are any options to install custom roms as well without losing warranty
Any help will be appreciated guys
I am from India
Anybody??
Requesting a bootloader unlock will not void your warranty
It is easiest done in this order:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash TWRP recovery
3. Flash SuperSU to root.

You DO NOT have to unlock your bootloader to flash twrp and then root your phone. Please see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/red...-to-flash-twrp-recovery-unlock-t3473294/page8
It worked very well for me.

I think it will only work reliably on a Marshmallow based rom. So you will need to flash the latest global beta in edl mode.

Excellent work mate
Didnt expect such a quick reply, thnx
Just so that I've got this right..
I install this via edl using miui flash tool and changing the recovery to twrp in the package before installing
And then either i can root that rom or install any other rom
I do not have to unlock bootloader to do this right or install another rom following this?
What recovery would u suggest
Thanks again for ur help mate:good:

I would just flash global rom, unlock bootloader and then you can flash recovery via adb. It's easier.
Just use standard TWRP or Alka.

I used Zcx twrp. It can read the encrypted data partition in Marshmallow and also disable dm-verity in the locked bootloader. You must boot into recovery immediately after flashing the ROM and before booting into MIUI or twrp will be over written.
I have not flashed other ROMs, but I did root MIUI by flashing SuperSU from twrp without any problems.

Zcx twrp has SuperSU included that you can flash. That worked for me on 6.9.29. I have since upgraded to 6.10.13. You should check out the Zcx twrp thread on the guides forum.

From what I've read, that is a general problem when you revert from a MIUI mm based ROM to a lollipop ROM. There are several threads on how to solve the problem.
Good luck.

I think you'll have to search for the threads here or on the MIUI forums. I don't remember the full procedure, but I think it involves flashing an older version of the developer ROM before flashing the stable ROM. I have not done it myself. Xiaomi even warns in the MIUI forums that reverting to the stable Lollipop ROM from the LL developer ROM is difficult.
Good luck.

Difference between flashing a rom and firmware?

I had flashed various custom rom by simply using rom and gapps but never heard about flashing firmware. Is flashing a firmware different from flashing rom.
Is it necessary to flash firmware if i want to flash a new rom?

If you came from the latest miui(7.5.4 onwards) then no.
Firmware is responsible for the modem, sensors, etc.
You always have to use latest firmware from MIUI ROM.. But of course you don't have to download full ROMs because there are people like @Psy_Man or @TheStrix which are extracting those firmwares for us. So thanks to them you can flash just a small zip file around 40MB.

Can't flash any rom

Hello, I have one big problem with my mate 10 lite
The problem is, when i flash twrp everything is okay, but when i try to flash any custom rom - I always have bootloop, on every custom :/
I tried to use eRecovery to install stock but it ends in the same way - bootloop
What can I do?
I really wanted to switch for custom...
Try using 338 stock rom and then install custom rom.

You can install other custom ROMs even if you are already on a custom ROM. The thing is all steps indicated
in custom ROM threads, ask you to wipe, and format so already they are cleaning necessary things, before actual
installation (flashing) step starts. But the cleaning is not like a proper clean i.e. done by stock recovery, so if you want
to install a new custom ROM, its better to first install Stock recovery, then wipe/format, then install TWRP, and proceed
with new Custom ROM installation.
If any thing does not work for you, then install ur stock ROM, and then install the new custom ROM ur interested in.

I reckon you must have missed some step, as I did tried most of the ROMs shared in this mate 10 lite
section of XDA forums. Specially the part after installation which says to flash Stock recovery n give it a wipe/format that makes the ROM installation proper, later you can install custom recovery.
For stock ROM, HuruUpdater works with TWRP, try one version of HuruUpdater, if it does not work change your
custom recovery to some other custom recovery (other TWRP, you will find many in this forum), and eventually
one of them will work for u. Still, it doesnt work, change the HuruUpdater version to an earlier version, and repeat
the process.

There is no best recovery that will work in every possible situation (e.g. Stock ROM flashing, Custom ROM flashing, backup/restore etc.). So for each custom ROM u better use the recovery that is indicated in that custom ROM thread.
