So I am on t-mobile, and I also have one of the routers provided to me by t-mobile (I believe it's an Asus) , and I have noticed recently that my wifi calling has been sucking big time. It cuts in and out and says I need to connect to a wifi network, when I am connected. It's like it doesn't notice that there is a wifi connection. Anyone have suggestions as to what might help?

WiFi calling on Android is hit and miss. I wish it was as stable as Blackberry UMA calling.
I tried the old turn it on and off again on the modem and router and it seems to have helped quite a bit.
Unfortunately, I have this issue for a quite while. Funny thing wifi calling works smoothly on pixel or essential phone!
How old is the router?
The router's WiFi radio maybe showing its age by being intermittent with its throughput's strength and/or signal's strength.
Try with newer router or access point. If there is a coffee shop with very good throughput strength (this is most important) you can do a test with that hotspot.

Can anybody confirm, that wifi (wlan) roaming, between different access points on the same SSID network and different channels, is working?
I have at home 2 access point (one is on channel 1 and another is on channel 6) and my SGS2 wouldn't switch from one AP to another when I walk in the house. My son has SGS1 and wifi roaming works for him. Before I had Nokia N95 and I had no problems with wifi roaming. The same thing, when I'm at work. We have 3 AP's (all three Cisco) in the house and switching between them doesn't work. In order to switch between AP's I toggle WiFi off then back on again.
I went from KE2 to KE7, now I'm on Litening ROM 1.5, but it's all the same.
I tried everything, I can think off (set AP/router to b/g/n, only b, only g, only n, set different channels, set different security,...tried also flashing different modems on the phone...) but for me wifi roaming is not working...
Any ideas?
Anybody?
Nobody? Realy?
That's realy strange...
Nobody?
I really can't believe.... almost 90 views and no answer...
I'm I the only one with this problem?
While you are moving round your house do you lose connection, i think that your phone will be connected to the strongest signal.
mine loses signal when i leave home and auto picks up an usecured signal down the road.
I don't quite understand, what you mean...
When I walk in my house from basement to the top floor, my SGS2 is always connected to the router in the basement. When I come to the 2nd floor, where I have another Access point, it should switch to that AP, but it wouldn't. Instead, it's still connected to the router in the basement, which (in the Wifi Analyzer) shows -90 db (and the AP on the 2nd floor shows -30). When I switch off Wifi on my SGS2 and then back on, then it will connect to the AP in the 2nd floor. But then, when I walk back, down to the basement, it stays connected to the AP on the 2nd floor, even when I stand next to the router in the basement and Wifi Analyzer shows -28 db on the router.
I can confirm that wifi roaming is not working (at least for me). The phone stays connected to the same old AP all the time even with really poor signal quality.
Unless it loses the connection it doesn't connect to the best AP available.
Tried it on several ROMs (multiple stock roms and now I am on Cognition 1.20), same behaviour every time.
Exactly the same with my SGS2.
I also tried several ROM's, from original KE7 to latest KG3, now I'm on Lite'ning 3.2, and it doesn't work...
That's really strange...
Exact same issue here. Tried three different stock ROMs and a couple of modified ROMs and no change.
I'm even running Cyanogenmod now and the problem persists! How does that work? Does Cyanogen use the Samsung source-code for the Wifi driver?
It's really pissing me off. I basically cant use Wifi on the end of the house I use it most in without cycling the Wifi on/off switch as I pass a different AP on my way into the house to get there!
The most strangest thing is, that nothing can be found on the web about this issue (only one on code.google.com)...
And also here, on XDA, millions of posts, but nothing about wifi roaming...
Are people not using more then one AP/router?

Yes, I am sure most people use one AP/router - that is why you are not seeing too many responses. The source code is from the samsung source drop, the drivers were written by broadcom. We at teamhacksung have not modified them for CM7, so the behavior would be the same across all ROMs that are using the drivers unmodified.
So, that means, we are stuck with this, until Samsung fix it?
I still can't believe, that the best phone on the world (at the moment... ) has such a flaw...
What about trying driver for Wifi from SGS1? On SGS1 wifi roaming works beautiful (my son has one and he is laughing at me all the time ).
Is there much difference between SGS1 and SGS2 in the wifi handling?
Wow - this is an annoying issue to have. Yup, i have 2 routers too, and it really sux to be in an 'overlapping' zone and see the SGS2 connect to the router that is further away.
Is there nothing that can be done about this?

I'm very pis..... angry, when I'm in my room/office, and see, that my phone is connected to the AP, which is in my son's room, two floors above me... and I'm sitting 1m away from router...
Yesterday I tried in my office with 3 AP's with my friend's SGS2 with original stock ROM KE2 (he didn't change nothing on the phone).
Result:....... the same as with my SGS2.... wifi roaming not working....
Any news about wifi roaming?
How annoying!
I'm having similar problems at work.
At home connectivity's fine with just 1 AP. Here at work there are about 10 Cisco APs. Every now and then I have to turn WiFi off and on again and I use the original stock rom.
I have exactly the same problem, it always connects to the same AP, not the one with the better signal... very annoying! How difficult is it to fix that?

Which channel does this AP have?
Has anyone else had issues with the strength of the wi-fi signal on this phone? When I'm in certain areas of my house, I will have severe lag with browsing, with the People hub, etc. Music and video will stream poorly, with heavy buffering. Basically, I get all the signs of low signal. The problem is, I've never had a problem with other phones I've used, including an HD7, Dell Venue Pro, Nexus S, Nokia N8, etc.
I tested the WiFi signal in these areas, and I get back a consistent signal between 70dbm - 80dbm, so I have a moderate amount of signal to work with. Has anyone else noticed poor WiFi coverage with this phone? Should I get it exchanged?
Same. Something is definitely fishy with the wi-fi on this device. It seems to come and go, and manifests as poor or even no wi-fi capability even when the phone says it is connected to a strong wi-fi signal.
I frequently cannot get a solid Tango video call going between 2 Radars on my home wi-fi network. Pretty frustrating seeing "network problems" and getting a choppy experience when both phones are on wi-fi with full signal strength.
My WiFi is solid with my N router
Today is my first day with the radar and I'm noticing WiFi issues. I think though some of it is related to Zune WiFi sync connecting...
Sent from my HTC Radar 4G using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
For the people connected to 802.11n routers, are your routers in pure N mode?
The Radar I have can connect to my 802.11g router no problem but can't even find my 802.11n. I'm thinking it doesn't have N connectivity...
Just asking.
Mine is BGN

I found out my particular problem is the Windows Phones only work on the 2.4ghz (currently used on my 802.11g router) band and not the 5ghz (my 802.11n router) band.
Now I know.
To the OP, this 2.4ghz band is usually crowded so maybe where you are going in your house, your phone is meeting with interference (land line wireless phone, neighbors wi-fi, etc...).

I don't think it's an interference issue, as every other device I own has no such issues, including 3 other Windows Phones (Dell Venue Pro, HD7 Omnia 7). And despite already using the channel with the least interference, I've tried switching that around as well. To me, there is clearly something not performing correctly in regards to the WiFi radio on this device.
Recently picked up a gs3 and I like it but one thing that is really bothering me is I'm getting constant drop outs on wi-fi and the reception is very low unless I'm standing next to the router.
Other devices do not have any issue at all. I've also noticed when scanning wifi the gs3 doesn't pick up as many routers as other devices do.
I've been reading threads and noticed a member mention going into the service menu and disabling power saving on wi-fi but that has not solved the issue.
I'm wondering whether it's a hardware or software problem. If it was software then surely others would have issues?
I don't really want to exchange the phone incase I get screen issues like the pink tint or blobs people are having.
But obviously if I have a hardware fault then I'll have to get it exchanged as a phone that keeps disconnecting from the wifi is not useful to me.
I also have this problem but it also extends to my 3G connection. Does not connect until I restart my phone, doesn't happen often, but its a pain when it does. I downloaded a WiFi fix from Google play and so far so good not had any problems...this is the only problem I have with this device otherwise its a beast of a phone.
Not sure if your setup is like mine but i had two routers in my home broadcasting the same ssid and channel. I kept facing frequent dropouts until i changed the channel on one of them. It seems the device kept bouncing between the two routers even though i was much closer to one. No more drops once they both broadcast on different channels
i read somewhere in this forum that you have to change the setting of the band of the router to 5ghz.
that fixed the connection dropout of wifi.

I only have one router. But I will try changing channels as maybe there's a lot of congestion on the channel I'm using.

I've read about that on here but I don't think my router has that option.
I'll go into the config and see if it does.
Thanks for all the replies
Just to update the thread, since I started this thread my wifi has been awful the way it keeps disconnecting especially when downloading large files.
I've been googling and had tried lots of different things.
What finally seems to have solved the drop out issue is turning security on my router to wpa instead of wpa2.
No drop outs so far even when downloading large files, but the signal strength is really bad, not sure if I still have a hardware fault or whether the galaxy s3 wifi is just weak.
Hi,
Same problem with mine. weak signal. At home or at work.
I think this an issue (hardware ? software ?).
But I'am surprised that we are alone.
Me too
Same issue here with regular random wifi dropouts at 2 ap's. Radio streams far more reliably over 3g!

Read on another android forum that somebody had been advised by their carrier to return the device. I was hoping lf2 update would sort it but no such luck...
Mines absolutely fine :s.....

i found this thread on xda, i'm hoping it does the trick
If you are using 2 APs with the same SSID and settings, your device can roam seamlessly only if the underlying network is the same network. If the 2 APs connect to different network subnet, it will never be seamless and you will get connection drops.
Your device must receive the same IP and subnet from the same DHCP with same gateway so it will be seamless between 2 APs.
I had issues at work. But not at home.
Today I told it to forget my B/G radio and to connect to the N radio. No disconnects, none..
No changes made to the phone at all..
May not be router
Hi, for what it's worth, my husband and I each have an s3. Mine has no problems at all with wifi anywhere. His drops out at home. I posted more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28510251#post28510251
We've tried the *#0011# trick and that is a temporary fix, but we need to redo it on a regular basis. The setting is not saving.
I constantly drop wifi in my house. Is this just my phone or is it an issue? Tried everything and won't stay connected. Network just disappears and then connects 10-15 second later.
I have some issues also. Just bad firmware on LG side
I'd check your wifi modem, I use my LG V10 on numerous different modems, and have no problems with it. It connects to my home, alone with a few places I go to, and even when tje signal is extremely weak. So I'm not seeing the same thing
Also have issues on Wi-Fi
2.4 seems to hold connection longer than 5ghz. Luckily I have unlimited data. I have almost never used WiFi on this device due to this. The problem is both on my Asus RT router and my brother's Netgear Nighthawk router. Both with latest firmware. I'd like to have the option of a stable WiFi connection though.

I've read a few posts that suggest being sure the MAC address of your phone is registered with your router. I've come from 2 galaxies and I do feel the LG is a little more sensitive to a low or fluctuating signal. I "feel" it, but everytime I actually compare, it doesn't seem to be the case
Thanks for the advice

Tried the registering the Mac on both bands. Tried several device resets. Disconnected all other attached devices from the router. Had much hope for this. But no bueno. Still dropped connection after less the three minutes. Disabled 4G and the other nanny settings for WiFi on the V10. Just hoping for the much needed firmware update (s) for this sweet phone.
Again, thank you for the advice and your time.
I just got lg v30 thought it was a good deal. everything is fine but it has one big problem . the wifi disconnect all the time especially while downloading. when this happens I can see the cell signal along with the wifi disappears from the status bar and the phone start searching for signal.
I tried everything I could. like a full factory reset.
I also downgraded from android 8 to 7
so Is it a hardware Issue?
I had a similar problem but only with WiFi. I don't think these phones have a reach on WiFi if you are a good distance from the router I believe this is your problem. My solution I set up a WiFi tether with my laptop connected to the router so the source is closer that solved my issue

Also, try setting for 2.4GHz only. It travels further than 5GGz and it's more stable.
