Some questions concerning firmware finder - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi. I'm thinking of trying firmware finder to update my phone. It does not look difficult to use. I'm currently on ALP-L29 8.0.0.119(C636) and the newest version is ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636). Before I try I was wondering if someone could provide a change log to see if there are significant enough changes to make it worthwhile. Also I see two versions that are available of ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636). One is a full version and the second is about 1/4 the size. Presumable I should go with the full version. Also, can I go directly to the full version or should I go up incrementally. For example there is a 8.0.0.125 version. Should I start with that one. Then up to 126? Also is data preserved if I update? Thanks and any comments on experiences would be appreciated!
EDIT: Just a brief update. It looks like version ALP-L29 8.0.0.125(C636) has been pulled. Also, Firmware Finder does give you the change log (see post 4 in this thread for ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636) change log).
EDIT 2: According to Firmware Finder, although listed, the version ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636) is not yet approved for installation. Have to be patient!

Data is preserved no problem but have you checked if either version is available for your phone? Huawei signs off each firmware update and releases each update in batches

Hello there, I think you should go immediately with the full version instead of stepping up incrementally. As for change logs, i'm afraid that isn't really available or it will be rather generic. I haven't tried updating with FF yet but it's something that I'm considering if my OTA takes a lot longer to arrive. Having said that, i'm on BLA-L29 .119 (C636) too and I hardly encounter any bugs in my daily usage so I'm not in that much of a rush to update either. Yes, data is preserved.

I didn't realize it at the time I started this thread but Firmware Finder does give you the change log. Also the version ALP-L29 8.0.0.125(C636) has been pulled so the only option on Firmware Finder now is to go to 126. The update seems a little incremental but might be worth doing. I'm actually quite happy with Mate 10 but it would be nice if features like wifi calling, voip and VoLTE are added at some point

There is now a ALP-L29 8.0.0.128(C636) for our devices. I'll probably wait for FunkyHuawei to get this update since I have credit and install it tonight

[Q] Over the air update?

Hi,
I have heard that omate features over the air update (maybe called OTA?), which I suppose should be easy to use. I want to ask - how can I check if a new OTA update is available? How can I check my current version?
Will such update preserve all my contacts and calendar appointments?
I have omate 8GB/1GB in Europe 2100. I have flashed it with firmware TEST_RELEASE_Omate_2100_TrueSmart_20140314.zip (btw, was there a new firmware released, and I maybe missed it?)

To search for OTA update go to settings/system/about TS/wireless update and click "check for update"
You don't have to check for (F)OTA, system will inform you if it discover update.
Over the air update or OTA is well known system of update in iOS and Android world and it's working quite good.
You won't lose anything, your data, contact, pictures and everything else will be preserved.
And no, even Omate promised to upgrade TS by the end of last month they didn't do that - why I'm not surprised?

The 'about truesmart' option is available in the original firmware settings.
your screenshot shows the default android settings menu, which makes me believe you are not on the official Omate Software, which means you do not get the official over the air update.

You are running some unofficial ROM. Maybe Dees Bluetooth Tether or Loki's Unified. I don't know. I think you have to get back to stock if you want it. I advise you not to, there's nothing that special in OTA. You are most likely safer now than with the update.
Hey,
got mine TS (1+8GB 2100Mhz) last week.
My firmare: Omate_truesmart_20140513.103530_V2.0.
No ota available? The message says no updates available?!
Latest Kickstarter updates says: Omate_TrueSmart_V2.0_20140527 were the latest update.
I am confused.
Any chance to get the firmware elsewhere?
There ate at least two different versions produced in May and they each have their own unique hardwares, which are incompatible with each other and both with any other firmware builds. The 0513 firmware on yours is the build for what is referred to as "third batch" and the 0527 is found on the last batch so far - 4th batch. Both are version 2.0 OUI builds, not OUI 2.1 and neither is any better than the other. Both have wide open insecurity and Bluetooth stack coding failures and so forth just as in the original firmwares from back in January. There has been NO progress made on improving the TrueSmart firmware so far.
Since these hardware revisions require incompatible firmwares (flashing the wrong one will softbrick your TrueSmart) and there is no way to tell them apart, development of replacement firmwares has pretty much halted.

Honor 8X MAX English ROM available?

Hi folks:
I just got a Honor 8X MAX (7.12 inch screen), and am looking for an English-based ROM. Does anyone out there know if this is available and how to get it? Thanks very much.
I doubt there will be any firmware made avaliable anytime soon honor are very slow and tend not to release full stock download zips there's nothing for 8x you could try firmware finder on app store but currently nothing even for 8x and doesn't really work any more to flash firmware, FunkyHuawei may also have firmware but seeing as such new device may take some time for them to appear even full stock firmware, Not sure what else to suggest is it running a Chinese firmware or summit?

Thanks for your response. What you say makes sense. The one I have has a Chinese firmware on it, and allows to change languages, so it isn't too bad. However, I'd like to get an English keyboard installed (probably will have to do this via an app), and other things like that. Nothing major. Thanks again!
Yer that's possible even if no play store can just install via apk Google keyboard or SwiftKey
my one pet hate with honor is the amount of different region builds makes it hard to get right firmware there's so so many if and when they do appear, very rare they even supply firmware files on there website or can take 6 months , and if only they allowed us to unlock bootloader we would eventually have custom roms and be able to flash treble gsi, but until then we are limited to stock devs just won't bother with new Huawei /honor devices [emoji24] sad times

Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-A09 Android Pie 9 Update Release Date for US Customers

I talked to Huawei USA Customer support on 12-21-18 and they stated the for the model BLA-A09 US Model that it will start receiving the Android Pie 9 update around mid-January 2019 via the OTA update feature.
Latest from Huawei Customer support on 1-22-2019 @ 2:24 PM CST USA
The updates will be completed by the second half of February.
This depends on the Serial Number, the Model and the Region of each device.
That would be the reason why it is not with you yet.
Nibiru2012 - So you're saying by the end of February or before?
Lisandro M. Since your device is indeed scheduled to be updated, is just a matter to wait and keep on verifying the updates on the notifications or using HiSuite.
They will be done, before the second half.

My phone updated today, Saturday January 26th Central Time USA
Official Build version is: BLA-A09 9.0.0.201 C567E6R1P11
I did a Factory Reset after the install, which always should be done when a major firmware update occurs. Phone seems to be running fine so far.
Will let it run after a full charge for next 24 hours or so to let the system smooth out and such.
BTW - the option IS AVAILABLE TO REVERT BACK TO THE OLD EMUI 8 IF DESIRED.
I'll believe it when I receive it. Customer support hasn't been reliable at all for me.
That said, I hope it's true this time.
Well, Huawei has been piss poor about updates for this device so I'd take that with a grain of salt and won't be holding my breath waiting for any updates or support from Huawei.
Lol a full month after the rest
.....
Naaa. They won't give us everything
Wish I could rebrand my phone to EU firmware without going through funky.

Wow, surprising to see an update on Firmware Finder. I thought it stopped working for the US model after not seeing any updates for over half a year.
Downloading this file now.....
I'm running a stock mate 10 pro, and just started downloading the two files. Can't I just flash my device after the downloads are complete? Will there be any complications? If I can't then oh well, I'll just end up deleting the files and wait till I get the notification to download ota.
US variant recently got the December security patch. Security updates have been there, but feature updates have been lacking. I got the last update a couple of days after finding out about it, but the combined October and November Patch took a month to reach my device. Pleasant surprise to see that the EMUI 9 OTA will likely be rolling out soon-ish.

Unless it is authorized it won't install anyway, besides the fact that the US model only does online updates, you can't download and install anything with this device
I checked firmware finder and the pie uptade for the US Mate 10 Pro is there but when I check firmware the application says "the firmware is not approved for installation".
What exactly does that mean?
Can I force the Pie update through the app?
Anyone install this on their US Mate 10 Pro?
Anyway guys i jumped the gun and did the update via firmware finder here is proof we finally have pie !!! .I can tell you the system update improved performance things are really snappy and really liking the pie theme layout enjoy ! Its probably only a matter of time till it hits the update ota servers but I was to greedy to wait and had to do it .
Do you have any directions on how to do it?
It still says EMUI 8.0, I thought we were getting the full EMUI 9.0?

That's not even the same build number that is on firmware finder (BLA-A09C567E6R1P11R201), nor is it EMUI 9 like the build on firmware finder. EMUI 8 is Oreo, EMUI 9 is Pie. EMUI is not just a "skin" as you put it. If in fact you installed something it sure wasn't what you think it is. Since you must have unlocked your phone and installed a custom recovery you pretty much could have installed anything (stock recovery won't allow you to install non authorized firmware).

It means exactly what it says, the firmware is not approved. Firmware that is not "approved" can't be installed as the stock recovery checks the approval, you can't force it using the firmware finder app. The only way you can install non approved firmware is to install a custom recovery that does not check.
How long you think till the update is approved? I just don't see the point of listing it if it's not approved yet.

From what I heard from Huawei customer support the rollout for the US model would start sometime in February, so I don't see that firmware on FF being approved any time before that. Also, based on the really piss poor record Huawei has on keeping their word on things I wouldn't bet on them keeping that date, so don't hold your breath waiting.
BLA-A09 updates will be completed by the second half of February.
I didn't feel comfortable with Firmware Finder app since the update wasn't an "OFFICIAL" update.
I was told that it depends on the Serial Number, the Model and the Region of each device.
Here's a conversation I just had today with a Huawei Agent:

MediaPad M5 Pro - How can I update to Android 9/10?

Hello,
I have a MatePad M5 Pro that is stuck on Android 8.
Model: CMR-W19
I don't care if it's official ROM or custom ROM. I would like to maintain the WidevineL1 and mpen and keyboard support.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Try downloading HiSense software onto a PC, then connect your Mediapad to the PC and it will check for updates, even if checking for updates on your Mediapad itself doesn't find any.
This worked for mine. I was stuck on 8 too, until HiSense found an update and did the update on my Mediapad, then the Mediapad was able to find further incremental updates itself.

Any idea which to use? There are a lot of different Android 9 builds.
And how do I sideload on this device? Sorry if that's a noob question. haven't had to do this for a number of years.
When you click on a version to download, it gives you full instructions on how to install.
You are best going up in stages.
Find the same version that you have currently installed, then download the next version number up.
They're all for the same device, but that is a list of every update that's been released.
So install the next version up from yours, then try searching for the next update manually on your device to see if it then triggers it to keep updating itself. If need, just keep running the updates by SD card method.

Thanks! Im guessing I just can't install the latest update first?
I'm not sure.
Mine did incremental (about 6 in total), even though the latest one was newest.
To be sure, you're best off going up in order.
Because it's fully stock and you're doing in the correct way, it will scan first, so any issues and it won't install - so nothing to lose.
Hi all,
Had a read through this thread to see if there was any chance of an Android Update for my device but from the answers given, I can't seem to find anything.
I'm using an M5 Pro 10.8 (CMR-L09 - Cellular) on 8.0.0.203 and the Huawei Updater site doesn't seem to have anything above this for my model.
If I was to look at installing an OTA for the likes of the CMR-W19, would this harm my device at all?
They're both Cellular, both 10.8". Only thing I can really see different is that they are 64GB and I'm 32GB.
Also, as a side question, I don't have a PC, what's the best way to download and install an update using the device itself?
I look forward to a reply!

In regards to the part of if it would be bad..
CMR-W19 is not an LTE model. So if you do successfully flash the ROM, not sure if you would have issues with LTE.
Ahhh, glad I checked! Thanks for the reply!

EVR-AL00 Loading Inernational EMUI 10.1 ROM?

Hi All,
I have the 8gb/256GB EVR-AL00 which I bought to replace my L29..
There are several key things I do not like about the Chinese ROM, which were not an issue on my international L29. (Google voice wake, setting camera MP, Np bloatware, etc).
As such, would it be possible to load the INTERNATIONAL 10.1 ROM on the EVR-AL00? If so, does it require an unlocked bootloader (Huawei doesn't hand out unlock codes last time I checked). Just to be clear I have no problem unlocking the bootloader, rooting, etc but I do not think this is even possible at this time.
Any help and guidance will be much appreciated. Let's make this happen. "Aut inveniam viam aut faciam"
Thank you
Not possible and don't think it ever will be. Pretty sure all devs abandoned this device some time ago. And with Huawei changing to EROFS either with public release of 9.1 or 10 there is absolutely no way to root even with a bootloader unlock code.

Thank you

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems too good to be true. An Indian sounding name and they're asking for $40 and TeamViewer (to take over my machine) for a job I can do on my own. Seems way too fishy and scammy.
Can anyone vouch for MinistryOfSolutions?
Thanks

I'm super interested in hearing how it goes cause I've been debating about doing this for a month or so. If you could also say if you have to wipe the whole phone and what version you were running before it went through this process.
Rebrand is done today. My chinese EVR-AN00 has now the global EVR-N29 ROM. Everything seems to work so far.
Before rebrand, I downgraded to EMUI 9.1, but maybe this is not needed for the process.
My global ROM is EMUI 9.1 1 - for the moment no OTA update possible. We will try to solf this tomorrow.
My experience, MinistryOfSolution is a trustworthy and reliable business man.

I can 100% vouche for Ministry of Solutions! I just had him convert my AL00 to an L29. It is also a permanent fix. I have done all the latest OTA update including the latest for November with no issues.
Hey guys, I just had a session with Ministry of Solutions and for about 40 minutes my phone was fully converted from AL00 to L29.
I'm currently getting the OTAs...
Very happy with the service!
Just one note. To make the process faster and easier for him, make sure to downgrade to EMUI 9.0 with Hisuite (it is quite easy. Just make sure to backup your data).
