Screen-Off Memo Not Working - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

I have followed the instructions where you press the button on the SPen and then tap the screen while it is off and nothing happens. I've also made sure that the option is on in the settings.
I do have a password on it does that hinder the Screen-Off feature from working?

Same Issue VZW Tab S3
I have the VZW LTE version and have the same issue. When I have the lock screen enabled, the button+tap only wakes the device. If I disable security, the button+tap wakes the device to an error message saying Samsung Notes has stopped working. So it appears to be a software issue between the S Pen, the lock screen and Samsun Notes because it's recognizing the tap action and at least in some scenarios it's attempting to do what it's supposed to (bring up Samsung Notes off screen). VZW and even the Samsung rep at Best Buy couldn't figure it out and offered that there will probably be some sort of patch later on. Until then, it's not working.

I hadn't mentioned but I have the same version the Verizon LTE as well. Good to know thanks!

Okay, I was in the exact same boat as you guys. One system update later and my Verizon Tab S3 wasn't doing notes on the lock screen, errors, etc. I used the Same Pen floating menu thing to tap on notes and suddenly it informed me to head to the Samsung App Store to update. Once that app updated, lock screen notes worked as they originally did before.

Opening the app and importing samsung memo/s-note data worked for me.

Verizon Galaxy S4 Kids Mode lockscreen backup PIN issue

This is mostly an informative post, as I have spent a few hours on the phone with Verizon and Samsung tech support regarding this issue.
This issue affects the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 on Android 4.4.2 and Baseband version I545VRUFNK1.
First, some info. When setting a pattern lock to this phone, it will ask to enter a backup PIN in case the pattern is forgotten. Additionally, this phone has a Kids Mode widget pre-installed by Samsung to download the actual app. Once the app is installed and setup, it will allow a child to play with the phone on any app you designate, keeping them from messing around with settings and etc. This app also requires a PIN to keep kids from exiting Kids Mode or altering it's settings.
The issue with the above mentioned info is this: if Kids Mode is active and the phone goes to sleep, and the lockscreen pattern is entered incorrectly to the point that it will ask you to enter the backup PIN, the backup PIN you created WILL NOT WORK. An error message will appear stating "you have attempted to unlock the phone unsuccessfully X times, you have X times left before a factory restore is performed." Once the last attempt has been reached the error message states this feature can be turned off by going to Settings > Lock Screen > Auto Factory Reset. The additional issue here is that this menu setting does not exist. After ten failed attempts to enter the correct PIN the phone will erase the SD card and perform a factory restore.
This issue ONLY occurs when Kids Mode is installed, is active, and when there is a pattern and backup PIN set for the lockscreen. I was able to reproduce this issue six times with Verizon tech support over the phone.
Verizon did send a replacement but unfortunately this issue occurred with the replacement as they were on identical Android and Baseband versions. Verizon got me in touch with Samsung tech support and they are going to repair the phone for me. My assumption is that they will reflash with a previous version of Android, or newer. Won't know until the phone returns.
If you wish to see a video of the process, please search YouTube for "Samsung Galaxy S4 Kids Mode issue". I'm still a new user here on Xda so I cannot post links.

Android 5.0 "Smart Lock" feature does not bypass fingerprint lock,

This is kind of an obnoxious issue with one of the new Android flagships. Android 5.0 has a "smart lock" feature that unlocks the phone based on your GPS location or if a trusted device is paired. The point of course is that you shouldn't have to unlock the phone when you're paired to your car, or to your Android Wear device, or at home or work, for example. But on the Galaxy S6/edge, it doesn't bypass the fingerprint lock, so when both are enabled you have to unlock twice. Tbqh I'm not sure Samsung's actually going to fix it. Their live chat didn't have much to say on this. I thought I should mention it in case anyone was thinking about enjoying the smart lock features AND using the fingerprint scanner.

Valyncia: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Hello Valyncia
Valyncia: Hello.
Valyncia: Please go ahead with your question.
Visitor: When I have fingerprint lock screen security enabled, it works fine
Visitor: but when I also enable smart lock, smart lock does not bypass the fingerprint lock
Visitor: is there a bug # for this issue?
Valyncia: As of now, we have no reported complaints regarding this issue.
Visitor: Thanks, I'd like to report one
Visitor: It's easy to reproduce
Visitor: 1. Enable fingerprint lock
Visitor: 2. Enable smart lock with a trusted device or location
Visitor: 3. either pair the trusted bluetooth device, or be in the trusted location
Visitor: 4. lock screen still requires you to swipe your fingerprint
Visitor: expectation is smart lock would bypass fingerprint lock
Valyncia: Thank you for your valuable feedback, I will certainly make a note of it.
Valyncia: Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
Visitor: Thanks. Could I take a ticket # or report # so I can follow up on this issue?
Valyncia: Unfortunately, we do not have an option to create tickets for this issue.
Visitor: Is there another department that would be able to open a ticket to get this actually fixed?
Valyncia: We will note the issues and follow up it with our higher deparment.

It works fine for me with the head unit in my car and the headset in my motorcycle helmet. I do wish it would bypass the lock screen completely. I still have to swipe up to get to the home screen.

If you have to swipe, it's not working. What you are describing, is smart unlock not working. Try it on a Nexus 6 and see m8

Well it half works then, because it does bypass the fingerprint lock.
I had this same problem. When connected in my car it has a swipe up, then it asks for a fingerprint (which is super hard to do in the timeout time). Outside my car it is simply fingerprint. Same thing with my headphones. Just happened right now. Fingerprint unlocks. Connect headphones: asks for swipe up... stalls... then goes black before i can use finger. Wake back up fingerprint unlocks. Lame. This would be a completely awesome feature if it worked.

Works for me; when connected to my Moto 360 it bypasses the fingerprint unlock. A normal screen swipe unlocks the device.
had the same problem. I had to disable smart lock
Is there a forum that Samsung watches for these issues? Talking on XDA won't do us any good. We need to post it on a samsung board in order for them to take notice.
Same thing is happening to me - when connected my car it has swipe to unlock THEN it asks for a fingerprint... really rather irritating...
This is not a problem on my edge I added my gear to trusted devices and it successfully bypasses the fingerprint security.
Is it carrier dependent? On my T-Mobile Edge with the 5.0.2 update that happened out of the box (end of March), I have both fingerprint unlock and smart unlock and when my Zenwatch is in range I don't have to use fingerprint - I do still have to swipe, though.
On my 2013 moto x, once i have unlocked the phone while connected to a trusted device, I am always brought to home screen or open app rather then having to swipe. I feel this is the way it should be for all phones. (I thought that it was TBH)

I also have the T-Mobile Edge and I have the problem. You're the second person to say that an Android Wear device bypasses the fingerprint lock. Try unpairing the Zenwatch and use your car or a trusted location and let me know what you find.
In any case, you shouldn't have to swipe when using smart lock. Just use a Nexus 6 and you'll see how it's really supposed to work. With smart lock enabled, simply waking the phone brings you to the launcher, no unlock required.

I had a Nexus 6 before I got my S6 Edge. Smart Lock (location) did not bring me directly to the home screen, I still had to slide to unlock. Bypassed the PIN code, though. I was on 5.1.0.
Smart Lock isn't working for me, either. I trued setting it up using Location. Haven't tried trusted devices. T-Mobile S6 Edge with the latest OTA.
For me, the smart unlock works when it's connected to my car's bluetooth but it doesn't work for the location.
It is annoying.
Smart lock is not working for me either. The feature itself is grayed out in the Settings. When I paired my 360, it asked if I wanted to add it as a trusted device. I did that but it still keeps asking for fingerprint as if there are no trusted devices.
Mine is T-Mobile S6.
smart lock not working for me either - the setting is configurable but neither location or bluetooth liberate me from having to use the fingerprint unlock even though they are setup properly and smart lock is a trusted agent... bummer
***EDIT: found solution at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6/help/fingerprint-lockscreen-t3078647 - added a new trusted place called Home1 and when the map came up to set location i moved the pin slight away from my house and then back again and when it used a GPS latitude/longitude location instead of an address, i was able to get it working for location...
I got it working with that method as well.

Not working for me too. Have to swipe and use fingerprint to unlock with trusted JBL Headphones
With ANY phone, the first time you must fingerprint unlock it while connected to the trusted device. After that it should let you in without a problem. My problem is that it requires you to swipe up to actually get into the home screen or app. This is not the way it *should* work.

Overlays, links opening, and home button not working right

Hi,
First of all, my home button don't work correctly. When I do a simple click and a long click, absolutely nothing happens. But if I do a double click, it does work fine.
Secondly, some overlays don't comes up, like notification or volume changing pop-up or Facebook messenger chat heads just showing the wallpaper not the chat.
Finally, when I receive links from message or mail and click on it and it opens chrome (it's the default one) but it doesn't open the link.
Sometimes ago, I had just the 2 first problems. And just by restarting my phone all was gone.
But now I get all the 3 problems. I tried to factory reset my phone and it fixed the problem but then I had to restart my phone. And all the problems were back.
I got the galaxy note 3 (SM-N9005) with the firmware N9005XXUGBOJ2.
Thank you in advance for the help

Coming from GS4 Verizon to Sony Xperia Z3V - How to disable mobile data confirmation

Hello.
My old the phone the galaxy s4 verizon, i dropped it and it cracked screen and screen wont work. so i went away from Samsung to Sony for the first time. and now i have the xperia z3v.
when i pull down quick settings to turn on and off mobile data as well as location, when i turn off the mobile data there's a pop up box that says are you sure you want to turn off mobile data and there's also a box for location that asks you to agree if you want to turn on location data.
I want to know how to disable these pop up boxes so that i dont waste time clicking yes or no. also i play pokemon go so I would want to know how to do this without rooting. as i understand niantic has blocked rooted devices from playing pokemon go.
as i came from the galaxy s4 im used to hitting agree every time i turn on location data but not for mobile data.
also i was wondering about getting back the settings button, as the galaxy s4 had that, but now the xperia z3v just has the recent apps button.
The pop-up is a Verizon software thing. I upgraded to the S7 Edge and it had that same pop up to until I installed the unlocked firmware, which it never pops up anymore.
The Recents key has always been the Recents menu since the beginning of Android. The S4 may have had special remapping because it uses capacitative keys, but the menu can be easily accessed from the drop down menu up top.

Google assistant not working when in sleep mode, after pie upgrade.

Hi,
I have an S9+ with Rogers in Canada, which was recently upgraded to Android pie. Ever Since I have not been able to use Google assistant when the phone is in sleep mode. Prior to the update, I was able to say "OK Google: set the timer for xxx minutes", when the phone was in sleep mode. But now it doesn't work anymore, other than vibrating. It still works on other screens, just not when the phone is asleep.
I called Samsung but they were useless telling me that I need to press the home button and that it has always been so and that nothing changed with Android Pie but that is BS.
Can other Pie users please verify, that OK Google works on your phone when it is in sleep mode and if anyone else has the same issue as I and if you have a solution.
Thanks,
Roli

Yes. When the screen is locked.
My phone was like that at one point, I am on Pie now and I had to go into the settings and make sure it was set to work even when the screen was off. Took a minute to find, have you checked there?
Settings/Google/Search, Assistant and Voice/Voice/Voice Match
I have. The phone vibrates when the screen is off and I say "OK Google" but is the screen remains black until I press the home button.
I'm thinking now that perhaps it has something to do with security and not with Google Assistant. I'm going to check my security settings. Maybe there's something there.
Come to think of it, I've had that happen before, not now but some time ago. I never sound effects, never really tried, somehow it just seemed to resolve itself after a while I guess. Good luck and keep us posted, you might be right in that it has to do with some security setting or something.
This? Access with voice match?
There is also that one underneath that says 'unlock with voice match', for use if you have a screen lock set up I guess. Did you try that one as well?

I’m sure that’s the option the OP needs to use.
I think it's a common problem with Google assistant and potentially the same as the 'voice unlock paused' issue, I've seen people complaining about both on pixel forums as well as on here (if Google can't get it right with their own phone what hope do we have!!). There were a few steps around deleting the voice model and resetting the smart lock agent (see screenshot). I did this and retrained the voice model in absolute silence which seemed to work for a bit but has since stopped. Annoyingly it doesn't seem to take into account when I'm at home and the phone is unlocked with smart lock!

OK. Here is my screenshot of the settings that I have on my phone. Access and Unlock with Voice Match are turned on.
Let me reiterate. The phone is reacting to "OK Google" on every screen so the voice match is working.
The problem is that when when I am on the lock screen and I say "OK Google" the phone vibrates, acknowledging that it heard the prompt but it does nothing until I press the home button or power button.
Have a look at this video. (I distorted for privacy reasons the audio because my phone and tablet were reacting when I was playing back the video):

I have the S9+ on Rogers and thankfully, this feature continues to work flawlessly after the upgrade as I use it often in my daily work..It actually seems to be more responsive after the update.
It can be very frustrating when the feature randomly stops working but it is usually due to an update on Google's end that causes it as I can usually fix it by going through the voice setup steps after an update..
In extreme situations you may want to uninstall and then reinstall the Google app..
Had the same problem myself and fixed it, just go to app info for Google and clear the cache and clear data, worked a treat for me

I'm on an S9+ with Bell in Canada and I can still unlock my device with voice when it's sleeping even though it gave me a notice that I would no longer be able to.
For some reason I've lost the ability to voice control any of my smart devices through Google Home. Seems like a related but different problem.
That, the lack of pro video mode and the brutal battery life have really turned Pie into a nightmare for me..
Hope they release fixes for these issues or I'll have to look at flashing..
