+1 :good:Getting impatient! I have been waiting for a year or 2 for a system update to fix some BT issues.
Month ago I asked if they knew anything about: sometimes the support via chat told me that it will be released in 2018, sometimes they say they didn't know nothing about...once someone said the only ones that knows are located in Korea and there is no way to reach them (I suppose he was talking about the developers).
BTW I asked for the H840
dont think the g5 will get it.
we will definitely get the Oreo update. so patience guys!
i think this too, we just have to wait.
maybe September? who knows!
I've just received a formal update about the Oreo update?

LG
LG has been fairly mum about the status of its Oreo updates. However, for the company's 2017 flagships, we have concrete information about 8.0's status. It is worth noting that we believe an Oreo update for the LG G5 seems unlikely. The G5 sold very poorly and the time invested would not be worth it for LG's software team.
What do you guys think?
I really hope this is wrong....

It has all the sense from LG business point of view. It was the same with G4. They were silent about Nougat update and then some pressure coming mainly from XDA users did that LG promised Nougat update. Finally this update arrived, but officially just for Korean variant.
I am almost sure that Oreo never will reach G5, since it was a sales disaster. I can understand LG: not much sense to invest money and effort in a failed phone (same as G4). But from user point of view (like me) this will lead in never trust or buy any Lg device again.

Not even a second major update for G5 would be very stupid and a very good way to lose further market share with a bad reputation also on the update side. With the G4 bootlop problems they have already lost ground against competitors, another orde of G5 disappointed users would be a bad strike for the brand image. A serious brand simply cannot stop to upgrade so fast a flagship device nowadays for this reason I think the update to Oreo will be released.
I know that even if I get Oreo, I will never buy a lg phone again.
I dont understand the hate of the G5. its a fantastic phone. It's still my daily driver.
I did a little research too on it as well. LG Itself lost out on £244 Million because of the LG G5 Sales figures. In my opinion I like the LG G5 mainly because of the camera and the weird/interesting body that it has. For me I don't see the G5 future looking so bright due to the sales. LG are probably thinking whats the point of updating the devices if rarely no one has it? I really hope LG doesn't pull the plug on the G5. I do have hopes of LG dropping the oreo update on this phone because the phone is only 3 years old.
I recently bought the Nexus 6P because of the overwhelming amount of custom roms that they have on there so far I am loving it. But I'll still be using the G5 as a little modification phone.

while the G5, LG's failed modular phone, is still within LG's two-year update window, the company hasn't confirmed that it'll get it.
we hope get update soon

Nah, Oreo is a lock for the G5. Likely 2nd quarter of this year, maybe late 2nd quarter.

I got nougat last April. So i think this will take some time
You dont need Oreo to be honest. There is nothing new in it compared to Android 7. Dont know whats going on at Google. They are a mess. Every single Google product slowed down drastically over the last 2-3 years. At least the "end user" costumer products. I guess Google is doen milking those, and is investing all it's man power into other things like cloud or server products. Android development is basically dead, Chrome dead, Google Home products, dead. Pixel 2 was a fail too.
In europe on Amazon a NEW G5 is still damn pricey, even the SE edition is pricey too! it's the last top end with swappable battery and a crazy quality front and rear cameras (everyone I take a picture with, says that it makes damn cool selfies, instragram numbers talks...).My sister bought a G6 when a few months ago he destroyed his G5 display since the price difference was very low (and she work in a store, she don't care about letting it charging all the day).Is my primary phone and when my G4 was stolen this summer I bought another G5 on amazon wharehouse like new for €250, I'm very happy about that, G4 was actually starting to be slow with nougat.I actually don't feel the need of an update, but if OREO promise to speedup is ok.I don't even use the 2windows option of nougat, so I really don't care about PIP, I'm pretty ignorant about OREO maybe, I just know that should be a "lighter" OS.But I'm on 20q firmware and I'm so ok that I'm even afraid to update to 20s And yes, I like to keep a second battery in my pocket and with the official 2nd battery charger I can do a powerbank for my friends....need else? X-)))

Of course, coming soon could mean anything!
Yeah, but when for Verizon? I really hope soon is really soon, and not in a month or so. Hate it when they do the teaser stuff, I would rather have it be a dead drop one day rather than a teaser.
Just my thoughts.
Verizon has to, um, "test" all updates for at least 5 weeks, I think it was, before they can safely release one. To protect their network - which is the largest, most reliable 4gLTE network !
If anything upsets Verizon during testing, they send the update back to LG and restart the testing later.
Generally there will be a soak text preceding the actual release, so we'll most likely find out that lollipop is actually coming when we start getting a soak test. Rarely does an update not get released once it enters soak phase. They won't pish anything to a phone (even in a soak) without being reasonably sure it's ready for release
A lot of people from different countries that have the stock release of lollipop complain about battery drain from idle and just in general. If that's the case, want nothing to do with this update. Then again if it let's me take videos with my battery burning up and shutting off, then I may take the battery drain, lol!
Verizon needs an extra 4 weeks just to cripple the features they don't want you to have.

The G3 is running pretty nice as it is, and I have become less impatient with the speed of verizon getting the G3 lolipop after seeing some of the early issues that cropped up in 5.0's so far. So for once I can wait for verizon to get us a mostly bug free upgrade this time hopefully.

Yeah, I agree. Really not in a hurry to lose my xposed modules that let me really customize the phone the way I want.
honestly, I'm not highly impressed with lollipop. I think it has a way to go before being truly an upgrade.

It will be interesting to see how the performance is. Might have to start monitoring the S5 forums.
People on the S5 forums are saying that benchmarks are higher! I'm mainly interested in battery life with Project Volta and all.

and now LL 5.1.. Guess we will see that next year on the G5. I sure wish google could get a hold of these OS versions and quality control it like Apple does.

Hope you are being sarcastic because iOS 8's release has been a disaster. They've done at least three or four post updates since the initial roll out due to numerous issues, including losing radio signal, etc.
It's to be expected when you release a major OS upgrade. Remember, this is going from the 4.x to the 5.x versions. 4.x to 5.x was a major change under the hood, including going from Dalvik to ART runtime. Quite a difference there.
However, it's worse that Apple has had so many issues, considering they control the hardware AND software. And even the iPhone 6's had issues with iOS 8.
Looks like Sprint will be tentatively pushing the lollipop update to the LG G3 on Feb. 16th. We will have to wait and see if Verizon is at the same time which they have been for the Galaxy S5.
Lollipop update for Sprint HTC One M8 set for Feb. 13, LG G3 on Feb. 16 | Android Central

I'm only referring to the consistency of how they update, not the stability of the updates. I just don't like the haphazard way the Android platform is updated to the end user, and how it is held hostage by the carriers whims..

Okay, that makes sense.
Not sure what can be done about the carriers whims. I'm sure Apple still has to work with them as well, but since it's across similar hardware, there probably isn't as much "apprehension" by the carries possibly? That or Apple knew how to "bully" the carriers into a contract that allows Apple to pretty much do as they please. LOL.

Sorry for you, but my wife's Sprint S5 got lollipop a day before your's .:cyclops:
1) No removable battery
2) No microSD
Things that would make me very unhappy:
1) If the phone gets any taller or wider
2) If it stops supporting Qi
3) if it ditches the curved back
Things that would make me very happy:
1) They shrink the bezels even more
2) Verizon doesn't logo it up
3) They make an iPhone quality fingerprint scanner on the back power button that will work while knock code is still on too
4) Ditch the LG skin
5) More powerful IR blaster
6) 1080p resolution if it means better battery life versus 1440p

I'm in the same boat. Got my G3 in August so I'm stuck with that for a while.
I don't see how people can justify buying the next new iPhone, Galaxy S or LG's flagships every year.
I don't feel like the jump from the G3 to the G4 is going to be enough to get me to upgrade.
The HTC One M9 will keep me from buying the G4.
My 2 year contract.
Satisfaction with my current phones.

Buy new device, sell old one on eBay for small loss; it amounts to renting a phone for $100 a year.
My crack habit. Sorry OP!
Every phone up until the my g3 had a custom recovery available thanks to developers figuring out how to by pass the bootloader or unlock it before I bought it. Whereas the G3 wasn't for about the 1st month I owned it and it drove me nuts because I am a flash aholic so I can't wait to see what the G4 is like, but this time I'm going to wait until the or it gets a custom recovery!
Unless it had a minimum of 64 GB of internal storage, there's no way I'd get any smartphone without a MicroSD slot.
I can't think of anything they could add so maybe working on size a little big not sure thats possible though. They can make the screen go brighter that seems to be one of the bigger complaints with the g3. I really have been lucky with not having to many issues. last year I jumped through the big 3 phones and ended up with g3 but I dont see a reason to try the other 2 as of right now.
While on the subject of possible weakness in the G3, my two main although relatively minor complaints and room for improvement are:
1. The notification LED is not noticeable unless I'm looking directly at it. For comparison, although the Galaxy S2's was too big and cartoony, the Galaxy S3's was perfect. I could see it out of the corner of my eye but it wasn't obnoxious. The problem might not be the size on the G3, it might be how deep inside the LED is, limiting it's visibility at anything but near direct angles.
2. Laying on it's back on my work desk or elsewhere, I never hear or feel the vibration, which I have set for all notifications. I theorize that the curved back, which I like very much, keeps the vibration from being noticeable due to the very small area of contact between the back of the phone and the desk surface. I don't want to keep it flipped over, I prefer it on it's back, I don't want to have it flipped over AND turn on the camera flash notifications, and from what I've seen without modification, the screen lighting up temporarily for notifications isn't that noticeable either.
The g2 had bad sound quality. The g3 has even worse sound quality.

I dunno. I am so disappointed with the Nexus 6 launch. Its still nearly impossible to get this phone and its still pretty pricey. I am disappointed that Verizon never formally launched it.
If the LG G4 has 4gbs of ram, I would without a doubt sell my g3 and get the g4.
But its looking like the galaxy s6 and htc one m9 both only have 3gbs of ram.
Why do I want more? To make it future proof. My lg g3 performs blazingly fast with Illusion 5.5 5.0.2 based rom. No major issues.
I would say that if motorola and lenovo release a padfone like device I would jump on that. Or ya know, if the Droid Turbo finally gets root... ha ha.
Do we have any concrete info on the G4?
I Got my G3 back in September, its a champ. I see no reason to upgrade right away.
With Bump out, the ability to run custom kernel/ROM, on 5.0 btw, so again, no reason to update. I love my phone.
I didn't think I would be here saying that coming from the Nexus 5. The root and rom method is so seamless and the ROMs so stable, running BlissPOP 2-20 here.
I would like a more premium feel to the device, but o'well. I can run anything I want on this thing, no problem.
...but do we have any info other then the couple concept renders, that are confirmed?
Ugh. It's getting bigger. But just barely. I so wish they would have wen the other way size wise.

Selling this thing on Ebay wouldn't even give me enough to buy out of my contract lol, let alone buy the new one lol
It's definitely be closer to $200 for me personally by my math, and I'm perfectly happy with my G3. Any device without a removable battery, a micro SD slot, and root and bootloader unlock is a device you can count me out of haha To each their own

Verizon LG G3 's are going for $315 ($400 mint) on swappa. Assuming G4 is $600, that's $285 you would pay for a new one. I would gladly pay an extra $85 to stay out of a contract (especially since I'm still on an unlimited data plan).

I am going through the final level of grief and loss, the level of acceptance that so what if i cannot get a nougat on my phone, with LG it doesn't come with too many features anyway and non of the camera app or UI have changed, it doesn't worth the excitement.
Especially without root or an unlocked bootloader, there's not a lot to do to personalize your device.
Everything is doomed to hell
They don't even have 50% on pepai zero anymore.
Better off forget about it until it just happens to update by itself even if it takes 4 different centuries.

TL;DR: Jeff Yee, Vice President of Technology Partnerships and Planning for ZTE North America:
"Before any decisions are made about the future of Project CSX, the company's current flagship, the Axon 7, is poised to get updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in early February. Yee says that Google has received the final Nougat build, which includes long-awaited Daydream support, and is going through the process of certifying the release for public use. That process should wrap up in the coming days, and users of the sold-unlocked device can look forward to an update in the next two weeks or so."
"...or so." I'll look for it at the end of February at the earliest.
also from the article:
"Yee says that Google has received the final Nougat build, which includes long-awaited Daydream support, and is going through the process of certifying the release for public use. That process should wrap up in the coming days, and users of the sold-unlocked device can look forward to an update in the next two weeks or so."
Unless it's near vanilla Nougat, and that abomination called Power Manager has been completely removed and killed with fire, I am not interested. Lineage is working wonderfully and I see no reason why ZTE would bring anything useful to the table based on the B27 and B29 updates.
My opinion, for what it's worth.
that article is bull****. the nougat beta doesnt seem to be anywhere close to ready....
I thought they would release 7.1 with Daydream?

They gonna get me that's for sure....Their timeline for nougat has been much better than most other OEM's. And their help was invaluable in getting CM up and running which is pretty much the bigg at reason I actually bought the phone in the first place...If only I could find a decent glass screen protector this would be a 11/10
I was planning to go with the S8 once it is out (assuming unlocked bootloader). But after all ZTE did to help get CM up and running I am going to wait for the AXON 8 instead!

No it's not, not by a long shot. Since when is an update nearly a year after initial release so good? Even companies notorious for slow releases like Samsung have beaten them to the punch. The only one which comes to mind which has delayed as much as them is LG and they're being torn apart for it.

And their help was invaluable in getting CM up and running which is pretty much the bigg at reason I actually bought the phone in the first place...If only I could find a decent glass screen protector this would be a 11/10

They've done the absolute bare minimum and did far less than any of the random developers here who wanted to get it done. There is literally zero ROMs that you can honestly thank them for, in fact if they weren't so stubborn and just gave us the material to work with we could have come up with plenty long ago. Go ahead and use one of those ROMs, which ZTE did nothing to help with just to be perfectly clear, if you don't mind losing functionality like access to the Hi-Fi DAC. ZTE are by far one of the worst companies when it comes to support that I've ever heard of. Interesting that a lack of screen protectors is what keeps it from being an "11" when it's camera practically doesn't function in medium light, there's random bugs all over the place, and there's still even enough typos to make the entire thing seem like a bad joke.
Even if they do deliver now, it'd be too little too late. I've had this phone for half a year and they haven't kept a single promise. Only empty hype which has never once resulted in something tangible.

Given how A2017G users are treated, maybe February 2018?
The LG V30 is already happily running Android Oreo in some parts of the world (most notably the company's home country of South Korea). The G6, on the other hand, hasn't been as lucky. Back in October a unit running Oreo appeared in a benchmark, and then around the end of last year we found out that LG was running a beta test of the software in China.
If you were wondering when the finalized version of LG's interpretation of Oreo would finally reach Europe, for example, we may now have the answer. According to the company's official website for Italy, the G6 is expected to be graced with the update in the first half of this year. Here's a screenshot proving the above.

That unfortunately means that, in the worst case scenario, you will have to wait until late June to see the tasty treat on your G6, a handset that isn't even one year old at this point. LG Italy's official Twitter account has pinned down the update time frame even more - to the second quarter (so at some point between April and June).

Of course you are free to do what you want with your phone, but doesn't that reaction seem kind of irrational? Trash an otherwise good phone because you have to wait a few more months for an update (and not that big an update at that)?
To me its really a matter of expectations.
When you buy a toaster or a refrigerator do you become angry and get rid of it after a year because the manufacturer doesn't upgrade your product after you buy it?
Did LG promise you or advertise when you bought the phone that you will get updates on a schedule?
No I don't work for LG
You think his reaction is bad? You should see the LG G6 subreddit.. I think LG will lose many customers after their very blasé approach to dealing with software updates.

lul ? how?
bad for me i have lg g6+
Last time I've checked, Polish LG rep said that we should get Oreo on G6 around February. He posted that screenshot from above last week and now there's a news from LG Italy that Oreo will arrive in Q2 2018...
Let's wait till the end of February and check if LG is f.cking their customers with loads of bull.
If they are, the customers should f.ck them when the new LG phones get released.
I respectfully disagree. How many of their average customers care about updates?
People who comment on forums are a select (weird) group, probably a very small % of the customers. For those folks, timely updates are important.
I am a bit of a technophile myself, and although updates are fun, more important are the long term useability and durability.

BTW found the discussion on Twitter, seems they're discussing about a test (i say "they" because i don't know if the screen is yours), who knows, usually Poland is the first country in Europe to receive Major updates in LG History, but the KDZ didn't pop up yet...
I'm calling out that there is an elephant in the room.
This might sound kind of provocative, but could it be that LG concluded that Oreo is not really a major update, and is therefore not in a rush to get it on existing models?
It seems to me that there is a lot of hype in new versions.
When I look at the list of the new "features" in Oreo, it's really quite unimpressive. Picture in picture? Icons that change shape? Who cares? It's a much smaller difference than say Kit Kat to Lollipop.
Of course when you buy a new model phone you want the latest software on it.
But just because Android came out with a new version number it doesn't mean its that much different. Modern OSs are pretty evolved and full featured now, so many improvements are basically stylistic changes that are like getting new style clothing.
Most of the things that Google hypes as major changes are more like minor tweaks. Other than the security updates, can anybody tell me how Oreo is any more functional than Marshmallow?
Also , many of the evolutionary improvements are pushed through the Google system app update anyway. Anything else can be obtained via other launchers
Just playing the contrarian here...
