Depends on your needs, the price, and weather or not it's bootloader unlockable, and whether an accurate GPS is crucial for you.

The phone is still clean , no scratches at all , you know the weather here in Morocco is not very cold and not very Hot, for the bootloader i don't plane to flash something and the price is good , 170 usd

If you don't depends on GPS alot and don't mind image retention (ghosting), this is a fantastic phone, the most feature packed phone I ever owned. BTW, at what price is he offering you it?

Yeah, I'd say this is a great phone, unmodified or modified. I was worried at first that the module design would make it fragile, but mine took a long tumble in a clothes dryer and the modules still lock perfectly. The glass has no visible scratches. The stock ROM is the best, most customizable stock ROM I've ever used. The Kryo chipset is still very advanced. Many newer phones are taking a step backwards with their chipset and other specs, which makes me want to return to the G5 again if I lose mine.

Not all models have FM radio
I've had my G5 since Oct. 2016 and haven't seen any newer phones I'd prefer. Be aware that not all G5 models (RS988, e.g.) have FM radio.
i would´t recommend this phone. The GPS issue is really annoying, bootloader impossible to unlock makes the device unrooteable, and the update frecuency is horrible.
I want to change it for another phone already.

Never had problems with GPS.
Yeah, locked bootloader is a problem for people who prefer rooted device with magisk & other tweaks. Either way, device is good even without root.
I do, however, agree that frequency of updates is horrible for almost any variant of LG G5.

My H860 received the November security update over a month from now, and received android N October- early November 2016. (Which is very good). However, android Oreo is scheduled for Mid 2018 ?
Using LG G5 RS988 since OCT2017... And going fine.

I use LG G5 dual H860 and what you said it's right. However this phone is my biggest disappointment since i had my first smartphone.
Image retention can be hid "temporarily" using application called SFILTER in Google play (the opacity must be at 30%). The main idea of this application is to hide the ghosting image but it will appear again if you uninstall it (tried several blue light filter apps and this one worked to remove ghosting image).
The worst defect in LG G5 is the bad power management. I could not see my battery charging while i was using the phone at the same time. I had to leave it charged without using it if i want my battery full (i used 2.4A charger which should be enough).
GPS sucks. I have no other words to describe it.
Other than what i mentioned above, everything is nearly flawless, especially to play games with high definition graphic. Thanks to the advanced GPU, Adreno 530.
I sold my samsung s7 and got a used lg g5 at half of the price s7 was sold. Despite the lack of wireless charging (which I solved by using nillkin's magic tags) and the cardio/stress/O2 meter I am really very pleased with the overall performance and quality of this specific device i 've got, tbh it's surprisingly faster than the s7 (with better camera also) and very close to my s8 in terms of response and fluidity. I am not major fan of customizations, since in the past most i have tried caused mostly sideeffects in each device tested (of course there are also some that work really well), and always prefer to have some warranty as backup. I hope not to sound biazed, i really try to be as neutral as possible always from my personal point of view.
As of this morning, the LG g5 (mine, anyway) is still better than 83% of all other phones in terms of gaming power and performance. This one's running Fulmics, bootloader is unlocked. I bought it new on eBay for 147.00 us. It's about a month old. I think it's still worth it to buy an LG g5.
I think you can try the Tecno Spark 7P. It has a triple camera setup which is actually really good and not to forget the mediatek chipset, satisfactory for gaming. Overall, I think we got a decent device here.

H850 user here. I recently bought this phone and all i can tell is that is awesome. It's 200€ cheaper than most of the competitor flagships so imo is value for money. It's super fast, great photographs and if the development would be close to D855(G3) that i used to own i will be very pleased. Do not trust the guys in reviews saying that it has design and construction flaws. I found it to be very solid, the "chin" fits perfectly without gaps (at least to my device) and i like the G5 design, feels premium and not so fragile like S7 for example. It is a great device overall and i don't think u will regret if u buy it. Also if you decide to keep it stock you will always have superfast hotfixes and the future Android versions for about 2 years. Imagine that when i first connected my device to the internet it took me about an hour of updates and is only a 6 mo device. I am not an LG fanboy, above is just my experience since i am an H850 owner.

Sorry to interrupt the OP, how is your experience about outdoor visibility? Is the screen bright enough? Does the phone overheat when used under direct sunlight with brightness set to high levels? Does the "daylight mode" (which is supposed to kick in and drammatically increase brightness beyond default limits under bright sunlight) work reliably for you? I've seen many people complaining about this feature turning on and back off intermittently.

I do really hope that the construction is solid , like on the pictures, and I saw what the phone can do, so basically I think I'll have it.
The only question now is what variant...

I have no drouble at all with outdoor visibility. The screen brightness kick works great. Sometimes also works with "always on" but most of the times is hard to see Always on under direct sunlight. As for the overheating i have no issues at all no overheating or at least i haven't noticed such an issue.
Hi. I should think twice before buying this phone.
I had my G5 in 3 months before sending it in for warrenty issues.
Got it back with nothing done because moist on motherboard coming from low, ie from the switching area. I didnt had the phone in rain at all.
Not pleased with LG handling!

DO NOT BUT THE H860 VARIANT ! I don't know why it's stucked on the April security patch, we can't root it (bootloader locked), and I did not achieve to install a newer KDZ using LGUP. I sold mine and bought a H850 variant !

I was very nervous accepting a G5 as a replacement from Sprint for my G4, of which I had 3 with bootloop issues. So far, it's run just fine. I agree with aladin6 with all the positives.

Hello guys! I was thinking on buying a new device. Currently I have Galaxy S6, but before this device I always had LG phones(LG G2, G3). I didn't like G4 mostly because of lack of fingerprint sensor silly reason but I use it alot. So now I was thinking on buying LG G5 or LG V10. I don't think I will use the modulars in LG G5(except maybe I will get an extra battery). So which one do you suggest for me?(you can make other suggestions also) Thank you in advance

Honestly, if you like custom ROMs at all, I would vote no on both LG phones.
I would rather be running CM versus a stock ROM + Xposed. Xposed just seems to have too many issues where apps or tweaks stop working.
I previously had a V10, then via a warranty exchange, they gave me a G5. I accepted the G5 since I decided the V10 was just too big and bulky and the G5 was newer.
Comparing the two, I prefer my G5 over the V10 still. I do feel like the G5 is much more fragile. It is just more plastic-y versus my steel-railed V10. Additionally, the latest software on the G5 is much more feature-filled and polished versus the V10. Don't quite understand why the V10 doesn't have a very similar build of MM, but w/e.
Alternatives? Maybe wait until Oct 4th so we can get a look at Google's phone?
I am probably a bad person for suggestions as it seems like no phone can meet proper standards for me... Now if say the S7 was built by HTC, unlocked, water-resistant, nice 5.1" size... Maybe I would have a new phone myself!

Actually I love custom roms but seeing the situation there are not custom roms not only for lg but also samsung. What do you think about Nexus 6p? I am just worried about it's camera, is it good?

Well, I guess I am a believer that all high-end device cameras are pretty darn good now; Isn't much of a noticeable difference between most of them.
Looking at some lengthy comparisons- http://www.androidcentral.com/camera-showdown-s7-vs-6s-vs-6p-vs-950, looks like it is kind of a toss-up.
What I can't speak for is how fast it is... When comparing my last few phones, Nexus 5 vs V10 vs G5; I would say the order is G5, N5, V10. For whatever reason, from launch to snap took FOREVER on my V10. I LOVE how fast the G5 is, I can take a photo in like 2 seconds, which is a big advantage to me.

It's much more likely to get fully working CM on a Qualcomm device like the G5 than on an Exynos device like the SGS6 or SGS7.
The Nexus 6p is outdated, I wouldn't buy a Snapdragon 810 device now.
The G5 is lightning-fast and has a very good camera. Also the battery runtime is good IMO. With CM or AOSP it would be a tremendous smartphone, let's see if the camera issue will be solved.
But however you decide, you have to buy what you like most.

Depends on you. If you like stock. G5 is a great buy. I don't mind if the H860 has no custom ROM for now as long as the stock official ROM is stable and usable and runs great. To be honest the stock ROM is great. Battery is good, performance is good and everything else. I'm happy that I bought G5. A big leap from my LG G2. Camera, gaming, video and the like are great. Custom ROM's are optional and depends on the user. I do like custom ROM but I'm satisfied with my current state of my G5. :victory:
If it's not too expensive I would go for the LG V20. I am happy with my G5, but I have an european H850 with unlocked bootloader and for a great price
Look into the V20 if you don't mind a larger phone
The phone hardware is amazing but it doesn't have many roms on the software side. I would still get it if I were you. I've had big problems with the Cam+ module I got as a preorder. 3rd one works fine though.
Honestly if you are going to get the LG G5. Get the V20 instead.

I can get a used one, or bad esn from US(which are very cheap) and unlock it(because I currently live in europe)
I really like it. It took some time getting used to it but I got it on prime day really cheap, so cheap in fact that once I sell it in 2 years I probably will not have lost any money
Battery life is good the cameras are awesome and it is really fast. If you can get a good deal on it, go for it

but otherwise, its a great phone with a superior camera and speed.
But if youre into customizing your phone, then.. haha.... ha...wow.. you are into a treat! because theres only two models that have been rooted and unlocked, if your international is the H850 one, then youre in a little bit of luck as it is one of the models you can only unlock it's bootloader.
But yet the development for the G5 lacks a lot in the forums, we dont even have an official CyanogenMod but an unofficial one.
Since the lack in bootloader unlocking support and huge range of different models, most of the devs just moved on onto the next phones, like the v20.
You'd expect to enjoy the open source in your beloved android device just to end up being as close as to an IOS user.
Maybe one day there will be a miracle and LG bothers doing a life saving favor and unlock all of the phones and bring in all of the developers.
But everybody doubt it.
Dont expect the build quality be any nice, it has a tight hardware, but assure that you def will be suffering from display defects and additionally to it you might also suffer from the common gps defect.
If you ordered and yet havent received it, consider canceling the order and rewarding yourself with a v20, but sure as hell you might just miss the battery swag feature, I personally LOVE IT
+1 for V20. I have both phones. I like the G5 but it does have 2 big issues: Image retention and GPS. Personally my G5 is H850 European model so I did root the phone. I opened it twice to fix the GPS. Easy fix, but why get yourself into that crap. I live the V20. Good build quality, great screen, strong GPS, very good camera (although I do prefer 16:9 radio like on the G5). Anyway, cancel, get V20. If too expensive just get a Oneplus 3T.

Some people think GPS issues are related to that - moving the battery forces some tiny pins to wrong position I dont know.
There are plenty of Cyanogenmod based roms here, and sure, its not offical, but from what I understood its very stable, and only missing NFC and tethering, which also is the reason its not given the status official.

Honestly, the stock ROM is pretty good now. Both MM and N. I jist don't see the need for CyanogenMod with the G5. Also, LG's UI makes much more sense IMO. I agree that getting a G5 does not guarantee GPS or screen issues..but I see that the two issues are repeated in posts endlessly on forums (in my language and even in XDA). Im surprised that a comapny like Xiaomi sells phone for 150$ with better looking screen than LG. I mean.. common..LG, you make screen! How could you f it up ? G4,V10 and G5 all suffer from image retention. The GPS issue.. well.. that's just bad design. Mine was fine for 7 months and then it started acting up. I still like the phone, but its hard for me to recommend it for casual users.
Also, I will never buy a phone with curved screen again. I miss having good screen protectors.

The price and specs are great. The rom/root community is okay size. Build quality is trash. Don't buy this phone. With a little more money you could buy the One Plus 3T or One Plus 5. Better specs, build quality, rom/root, etc.
My next phone is Note 8 or One plus 3T or 5. I am not trying to bash phone. Just giving you an honest opinion. Look through the threads you will see tons of people with GPS, Backlight Bleed, bootloop issues, etc. I love LG, but will be my last LG phone for a long time.

I'm looking to get the H850 for my mom since it is only $300CAD if I get my friend to bring it back from Hong Kong. Can't find any another phone in that price range that would be better than the LG G5 H850...
Hardware and price are amazing, especially the model RS988 that covers the most weirdest bands that are available in areas like Canada. Unfortunately, the root/bootloader on the rest of models are bringing tons of problems, if its rootable/unlockable at all. Custom firmware choice is very poor, and they are raw even after 1 year of release. What it means is that you basically can't use NFC on most of custom roms (if not all). The stock firmware on the other hand is very well made and stable. I'm using it with Magisk without issues. So far the only problem is stock kernel doesn't seem to be energy efficient, so battery flies away in a day or two of use. However, battery is replaceable, what is offered in not that many flagship phones nowadays.
I can't agree about bad quality of build. I would say its very good comparing to what else you can meet nowadays.
Other than that, it's one of the best phones available for 250$ on B&H (Titan) if not the only good one.
Yeah not sure about other countries, but in Canada it's hard to beat the LG G5. OnePlus 3T/5 are $600/$650CAD+tax respectively and the G5 can be found for $330-370 all in. Even 2016 mid-range phones like the Axon 7 and Honor 8 are $400-$500+tax.
Build quality isn't up to par with other flagships, but it's not terrible IMO. At least it's better than most mid-range phones.
It is a lottery phone.

Build quality is pretty bad guys sorry. I've had plenty of low/Mid/High end of phones. I've never seen this many issues as this one. When I see GPS and backlight bleed threads filled with countless complaints. Yeah that's bad build quality.
Damiloveu statement pretty much sums it up right it's a lottery phone. 50/50 hit or miss, be for warned potential new g5 buyers. GREAT phone if no issues. And if it does have problems many headaches await you.

I would install Fulmics on the LG G5 if I can get it for my mom, so the RS988 is out of the question for me. I just cannot buy phones if I cannot install custom ROMs on it. I hate being at the mercy of manufacturers for software updates.
I'm so confused as to why manufacturers cannot just sell one or two variant of the same phone. Making dozens of variants seems so stupid.

Maybe my most complain bout this device is the GPS as i always use gps for ingress, second is battery and the rest is the design and build quality though I dont have the screen retentention issues yet.

I got a used AT&T H820 and it had the GPS issue, especially worse when cloudy and rainy. However, I returned the AT&T one and got an unlocked RS988 and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

If you need a hot swappable battery, the G5 is great.
If you game a lot, and want the ability to do so without remaining plugged in and burning up your phone, then the G5 is perfect for you.
As far as performance, no issues whatsoever.
Battery life is average, but with the ability to swap out new batteries and charge dead ones outside the phone in a charging port, you honestly don't have battery downtime. It's just always up.
That's the biggest advantage of this phone.
If you're looking for a better deal, you don't need unlimited battery life, or you're looking for a rich featureset, I would look elsewhere.
The gps is absolute wank and I don't have the time or inclination to do a hardware fix. I did a quick comparison with my friend who owns an OP3 indoors; his had gps lock with 15 seconds but mine was still searching after several minutes. In fact, I have almost missed turnings when driving a few times because of this POS. I never replace my phone until it has had 18 months usage but for the G5, I will make an exception.
I have LG G5 since April 2016 after my Note 3 : no root or anything, LG updates regulary.
I never have problems with it.
-No bootloop, no GPS bugs, a better reception with the same carrier...
-Camera is really good, especially the large wide-angle.
-Battery life: a day with a little use (waze to go work -one hour/day) wifi on, "always on display" always activate, some internet at evening : Facebook, Twitter, insta, mails...
-IR for soundbar, tv is really good !!
But no SPen ? So I will get the Note 8, really great for work, with the camera options easier than LG suit.
And finally, i prefer Samsung environment, even if G5 is really a good phone.

It's not worth the broken GPS sensors which are a known hardware defect. They'll fix it for you, but it's never the root of the problem so it will come back. I've sent mine in 3 times, GPS works for a couple days, then ceases to work again. Terrible quality control, by far the worst phone I've owned. My Galaxy S4 was better.

well, looks like i'm not the only one who migrate from Galaxy Note 3. let me tell you my short little story
I upgraded since my Note 3 were exynos version which didnt support 4g band. i was looking for cheap second hand devices with LTE support :laugh: ( dont judge me, bussines is low here in indonesia i cant afford phone more than 250$ - on indonesia currency and prices of course)
so i search all available markets, online and offline. some guys recomended 3 phone. LG G5 h860, xperia z5, and HTC m9 ( all cost about 200-250$ here, second handed) so i spent about 3 days on google comparing all 3 phone. i kick z5 out from my list since i had a bad experience with sony devices ( heat issue, poor audio quality, you name it) so it just m9 or g5. m9 is a good phone, its the cheapest one, had official support for lineage and SlimOS. solid built, and dual speaker. the drawback were its photo quality, its much worse than my note 3 even with 20mp camera. but at that time i cant find g5, the only available one were g5 SE version which is downgrade one ( 3gb ram and qualcom 625) and it cost about 299$!! hell no, so i pick the m9. but as i said before, i'm not really satisfied. the main advantages comparing my old note were: better sound, better network 4g, better official OS ( Lollipop vs nougat) and custom, and fast charging. but thats the only option i got that time. after several months some guys here sold his g5 h860 on low prices, i dont need to think twice so today my g5 finally arrived. still looks good for a second hand devices, the ony issue were the screen ghosting when the devices getting hot. but it would dissapear after some minutes, i can live with that. BUT, comparing to my m9 the battery drains faster, no root option, no custom recovery or rom. so for answering your question, IF i moved from note 3 directly to G5 i would be really happy as it has more advantages. but since i got my hand on m9 first i still feel little dissapointed . i cant stop comaring 3 of them. note 3 has bigger display and spen support, m9 has the best custom rom suppot and great battery, while g5 has the most awesome camera and screen resolution :cyclops: .

Ok, first off, thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. I actually appreciate it when people put a little effort in helping others online.
I ultimately settled for a G5, since a replaceable battery is more important to me than a bigger one, and also because I could really use those extra 0.3" on the screen. Moreover, you were unlucky in getting an h860 variant, because the european h850 has some decent support over here.
Lastly, I am not getting another HTC device again, I had an HTC Desire S. Let me tell you something about that phone: you could *not* remove the battery with the device on, risking a total brick. Yup, you heard me right. A flimsy plastic clip was all that kept your precious phone from mayhem and destruction. The best part is that it was a hardware defect, obviously ineligible for warranty replacement, and I don't recall HTC ever acknowledging the issue, let alone provide the user with some kind of compensation. Also, HTC always was a pain in the ass to customize, and the HTCdev program is a joke.
Nonetheless, thanks a lot for the feedback man. Have a good one

yeep, my biggest regret were i didnt read much about lg g5, infact i read too many about it so i skip the most important things. from what i gather around the web, g5 has 2 version. G5 and g5 SE. the g5 has snap820, 4gb ram and single sim, while g5 SE had snap 625, 3GB ram and dualsim. i use 2 simcard one for main use and another for data connection. and h860 has both advantages from 2 g5 version, snap 820/4gb ram and Dualsim support. i didnt bother to check on XDA for root method as i though it just the same as samsung or HTC, even with many varian usually all of them has the same exploit. i never though i would be so wrong on my life . and for the HTC part, well what can i say, here in indonesia we didnt have official HTC service centre so if we had a malfunction devices we just need to fix it on our own . same goes to LG G5 since the only one that they sold here were g5 SE, some friend of mine already bought g5 from singapore last year and when his screen broke he sent it to LG centre but they refuse it, they said the only accept g5 SE. so i'm totally aware when i bought those devices, i cant rely on warranty or official services. and its not the first time, usually lot of devices which sold here were downgraded version comparing to international one. like
note 3 on international version they had snap801 and lte support while official one the had stupid exynoss and 3g only. same goes with Note 5 snapdragon inter vs exynoss local, and also xiaomi devices, huawei, and many other brands which i dont remember anymore. thats why, many people here usually bought new/second hand devices from another country because they want to feel the real experience while also acknowledge they cant bring it to official service centre when it broke later.

Hello, i have a big question, the same as title. For now i have Huawei Honor 8, an awesome phone with a great design and good battery life (4h sot). The problem is that i want to gave the H8 away for a G5 because i want a phone with a good development comunity. Is this a right decision?

I just returned my RS988 model G5 a few days ago. GPS would bug out during use, battery life sucked (<4hrs SoT with casual use - messaging/web browsing), screen burn in issues and uneven screen lighting. I thought it was just my particular unit, but further research showed these issues are common. It's a good phone if you get way under the MSRP. There are other phones that last longer and have better quality control for $250. Like Motorola's budget phones, or lower end Samsungs.

Spotty GPS. 50/50 chance of screen burn in.
70/30 chance of getting a unit that has HORRID cell signal.
Poor dev support across all models (except h850 and h830).
LG quality control is horrible, some unit even bootlooped because the CPU separating from the PCB.

for why the G5 does not bootloop. I bit the bullet and got one used. No problems whatsoever, strong GPS, strong reception, a little burn in but no showstoppers.
The quality control issues were a thing when the device was launched, I'd say you have a pretty small chance of getting a faulty one now.

I wouldn't advice it at all.
Especially when you want to flash custom rom. In this case BTcalls doesn't work and neither quick charge
And sooner or later you will probably suffer from gps issue…

Honor 8 owner here. Had an LG G3 before the H8 (I've had the Honor 8 for close to a year). Just bought a G5 off Amazon. I wrote myself a comparison review to help me decide if the G5 would be an upgrade or not. I believe it is. I won't post the whole thing here, but in brief...
There are several sellers on Amazon and eBay that are selling the G5 new for $200 - $235. I got a new G5, a larger 3500mah battery, and a clear case for less than $260. FWIW, I've read the battery upgrade has 'fixed' some of the known issues. If one were to go out and buy an Honor 8 today, the price would be roughly the same.
In my opinion, the G5 wins on specs alone, but adding to that things like replaceable battery and amazing camera helped influence my decision.
A couple of things gave me the final push. One was extensive reviews of other devices in the $250 price range and the other is having the ability to install ROMs like LineageOS or Fulmics. Current Fulmics is based on the v20. Oreo has a good chance of coming to the v20. Not saying it's a cinch that the G5 will get Android O, but there is that possibility. While LineageOS has a ways to go on the G5, I'm hopeful it will continue to mature and grow.
You have a lot of good choices if you look at 2016 flagship Android phones. But the G5 is the least expensive and is readily available. Some will say it's cheap for a reason, but I still think it's a good buy.

Please tell me about big bugs on G5 custom roms. Is it true that the quick charge doesnt work? If yes, on wich roms? And how good is fulmics? Looks like an intresting rom. How much sot do you get with the old 2.800 and new 3.5 battery?

My LG G5 is still quite new. I will be running stock for a while before I dive back in to custom ROMs. After a couple more days, I'll post SOT with the 3500 battery.
When I ran Fulmics on my G3 last year, it was a great ROM. I think I needed a bit more horsepower than the G3 had to offer at the time. But with the G5 and it's Snapdragon 820, that should not be a problem.

how do you define good? I came from years of owning Samsung Galaxy devices, which have huge dev communities. The G5 dev community pales in comparison, but perhaps the G5 dev community is typical for non-Galaxy devices. I'm happy with the rom options for the G5. Fulmic's ROM is a great custom ROM. Autoprime is good about releasing stock ROM updates if you want to debloat and customize yourself.
