USB C connector wiggles - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

When I plug in the charger or headphones in the USB C connector on my Mate10pro it clicks distinctive to connect but then there is a clear wiggle. Like the usb port in the phone is not a tight assembly to the body.
The charging and audio works fine. Is it supposed to be like this?

Mine does too. I tried 2 brand-new phones and exactly the same.
Additionally the battery on both phones were completely discharged upon opening the box.

Same with mine. But it's not the usb port that wiggles, just the cable.

Thanks, good to hear it's not just on my unit.
Yeah, mine had a totally drained battery out of the box too. Good thing this puppy fills up almost as fast as a F1 car.

Mine i wiggling aswell. So weird.
1st good to hear that i am not alone
2nd it concerns me because i am using the headfone dongle quit a bit... i am afraid to wear it out even more... RIP headphone jack

Just bought this phone and my USB-C is also wiggles a bit.
It charges fine, but it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting with the slightes touch when the charger cables is connected to a computer.
It is only the "data" connection that disconnects and reconnects. It's still charging when this happens as faw as i can se.
I can reproduce this whit a bit of wiggle on the cable.
Any of you experience the same? Should i return the phone for another one?

New Prime won't charge via power adapter

there have been other threads about this. usually its the charger overheating and putting it in a ziplock in the freezer, resets it.
Mine did that too, just leave the charger and everything unplugged from the wall for a day. That fixed mine.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium.
The other issue I've seen is poor contact in the USB socket on the wall adapter. I had to unplug the usb cable from the wall adapter. Then, look at the usb socket on the power adapter. The gold pins are the usb contacts. Directly opposite of them, there should be two silver prongs. I had to use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry both of them out a little further to ensure they did their job of firmly pushing the usb cable against the socket's usb contacts. Once I did, my TF201 was able to get charge from it, again.
If you decide to replace the wall charger, I believe Fry's and Office Depot stock the asus charger.
Same thing for me.. PC recognizes it as a media device, but will not charge with wall charger. Wall charger works with my HTC Phone, so it works.
I don't think it has anything to do with the latest update, since the Dock wont charge either, and there's no OS in that, right?
Just experienced this today. I have had it unplugged for about 10 hours now, we'll see if it charges.
I had the same issue few days after I got my prime. I connected my sgs to the charger and it worked. Then connected the prime and voila-works.

C1. There are some good suggestions here I need to try.
Wrap it in a towel and bang it against a table. That will fix it usually. Then get some pc heatsinks and some arctic silver adhesive and you can attach them to the charger to keep it from happening again.
The plug has two options, 5V (standard for USB?) and 15V. I used the plug on my old HTC phone (Ozone) and then plugged it back into my Prime and it worked. Thanks for the great tips guys.
Since the charger works in two modes, I wonder if some charges became confused and started dishing out 5V when they should be dishing out 15V. Thoughts?

Hi, I got the same problem. The charger indeed seems to be stuck in the 5V mode, since, when plugged in the tablet does get charged, even though it is not indicated, but very slowly. It is charging as if it is plugged in to a pc.
I tried plugging it into (old) phones, but I still can't seem to get it to switch back to the 15V mode.
The freezer didn't help either.
Any other suggestions?
I waited about 4-5 hours before plugging into my old phone. My other suggestion is to allow the phone to charge for a short bit (30 minutes) unplug and wait, then plug into your Prime.
I have a feeling that its a transistor toggle that isn't flipping at the correct voltage.
I've had the same problem yesterday. In my case the problem was with the charge socket on the keyboard itself. Some copper pins were deformed and that stopped the device charging. I took a magnifying glass(also for checking if any of the copper pins are bend) and a small tool to bend them back. After this it charged again. Hope this helps.
My charger suddenly stopped working from today. The Prime is detecting the connection as the screen turns ON but it is not charging. I charged my sensation using the same adapter and USB cable and it is working fine. Why can I not charge Prime via PC like phone? Is it possible? I am in India and not sure if the power adapter is easily available as Prime is not yet launched in India.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I've started to have this problem today, plug it in and it does come up with the charge icon but it doesn't charge - or doesn't seem to.
However I left it connected last night from midnight until 8am this morning and it went from 13% to 17% so it is charging VERY VERY slowly although the unit doesn't actual seem to think it is.
I have it plugged in to my phone right now and its working perfectly, I borrowed the charger to my g/f last night to charge her iphone and i'm thinking this might have done something to flip the voltage as since then it isn't working.
Anyone have any ideas on this??

But if the charger works fine when charging a phone it cant be the connection at fault..
It does seem to me that the power it is outputting has dropped especially the I managed to gain 5% over the course of a night where WIFI was off and screen was off even though the charge icon doesn't come up.
Is there a way of forcing the charger back in to 12v mode??
damnit... I had the same problems a few days ago and I thought it was in the cable instead of the charger... not realising the charger has to put out 15v instead of 5v.
Does this mean the Transformer won't charge with for example, my HTC charger?
I totally messed up my cable, because I thought it was broken... when I opened up the USB plug, I noticed the yellow wire was not connected anymore, but this didn't solve anything. Eventually I messed up the cable that bad, that I've ordered a new one from ebay... but when I read this... I should have just banged the charger a few times... shait.

Has anyone actually ever managed to fix this problem? I've just contacted ASUS about it to see what they say - hopefully they'll ship me out a new charger plug or something, what a useless charger!!

2m USB Cable

Does anyone know if there is an official 2m USB cable available in the UK? I bought a generic one off eBay, but it charges the phone extremely slowly....
I use the 2m cable that came with my kindle 3 and it works as well as the original one

Are you charging the phone from a USB port? If so, it's the limitation of the port, not the cable. Try with a proper charger an it should charge at a more sensible pace.

Charging speed doesn't depend on the cable but on the charger it is used with.

I'm afraid it doesn't work as well for me. I got a Kindle 3 cable, and while it does charge the phone (using the charger which came with the phone), it does it very slowly. So slowly that if I try to use the phone even for basic tasks whilst charging with it the battery still keeps heading south.
If I use the stupidly short cable that came with the phone it charges nice and quick, but every other cable I have used so far either doesn't charge or does so very slowly.
Any ideas as to why this would be?
On a related note, this sounds good, but again the cable looks stupidly short:

What are you using to charge your phone? An EP-800 or something else? I have a cheap 1500ma charger that seems to take ages to charge my Xperia. The cause was that for a full speed charge, pins 2 and 3 must be bridged. I dismantled the charger and put a tiny blob of solder on the usb port pins. It now charges like a demon.
Same story with my car charger. Before the mod I could actually lose charge when using satnav and streaming music over bluetooth.
I have a battery widget that says whether I am on AC charging or USB charging. Its name eludes me.
Oh, and a safer alternative may be to sacrifice a USB cable and bridge the pins on that.
Better than all those though is the official Blackberry Playbook charger. 2A and a long cable. Charges the phone like nothing else.
Yep, am using an EP-800.
Fortunately the latest cable I ordered works a treat, so I can happily recommend this one:

Double the length, double the resistance of the wire. Assuming the have the same cross-sectional area.

Battery problem

My phone doesnt seem to charge.
Ive replaced the battery and the chargers (on my third charger this week) and nothing seems to work. Two of the chargers dont seem to be recognised so dont charge the phone at all, the other one does but wouldnt charge the phone even though i was getting a steady charge of 1000mA through it.
Im using Boefla kernel and have 'ignore unstable current' and 'ignore safety margin' both ticked but have tried on my ROMs standard kernel (using Omni) and still getting no increase in battery percentage.
This would all point to the phones USB port not working but i used my girlfriends Lumia charger and surprisingly it charged normally
I have read in one of the other battery threads that a fatter USB cable allows the phone to charge, can this be confirmed? One of the new chargers (one that isnt recognised) ive bought is a 2A charger so i wouldnt have thought that size of the cable would cause a problem?
Any suggestions would be great.
A cheap charger or cable may cause problems, a worn usb port also. More likely to be issues with the plug or socket than the cable core size.

I thought it may have been the cheap charger thing. 2 of them are cheap nasty things but the other one is fine, ive used the same make previously and it worked fine. I thought the USB port myself till it charged using the Lumia charger.
Looks like im gonna have to buy a Samsung charger and see what happens.

Charger being difficult.

So my cable connecting to the watch is being quite obnoxious. I have to have it propped in a specific place in order for it to charge. Is it my cable that's broke? Or the watch?

Very likely neither, unless you just can't get it to snap in and charge at all. At least for me, I've found I have to lay the watch flat on its back or the cable likes to come loose. It's probably because the other end of the cable is plugged into a charger on the floor - it might do better on a counter, but I don't really want to have my watch near a sink.
The magnets don't seem to be strong enough to deal with any tension beyond the pogo pins, unfortunately.
Not easy also for me often I must replace the cable few time.
Love my Zenwatch 2 - but charging does suck...

Ok, first off I bought (ASUS ZenWatch 2 Stand, Artifex Charging Dock Stand for ZenWatch2, New 3d Printed Technology, Smartwatch Cradle (Black)) - it's like $26 on amazon, does a really good job of holding the watch and charger end in place with the watch face up so you can see that it's charging.
I also found that wiping the contacts (watch and charger) about once a week with an alcohol pad does marvels.

Same. Taking a Q-tip (Cotton swab) to the little rectangles next to the pogo pins about once a week cleared up any charger issues i was having.

Wireless fast charging not working properly?

Hi!
I just bought a genuine Huawei CP-60 Huawei wireless quick charger which should be able to charge the Mate 20 Pro with 15 Watt. I've connected the wireless charger with the 40 Watt supercharger and original 5A cable.
However, when I place the phone on the charger it says 'wireless quick charging' for around 4/5 seconds and then suddenly it turns to normal 'wireless charging'. What could cause this problem? Now the phone only charges with slow wireless speed, when it should be able to fast wireless charge the phone.
Hi,
I have had some similar issues. I've found that the charger can be quite sensitive and won't charge at full speed if using an extension cable or a multi-plug adapter.
Not the silver bullet you were hoping for I'd guess, but maybe somewhere to start?
Wayne
I am having the same issue, i am guessing that the case may cause the problem but i havent tested without the case yet.
In general i am very disappointed with huawei, hoping to change soon to an s10+.

Thanks, but not the sollution for me. I've tried it with the 40W charger plugged in directly to my wall plug. Still same problem.

I've also tried it without a case. Same problem.
So strange. For 5 seconds it shows 'wireless quick charging' and then suddenly it switches to 'wireless charging'.
I've also had some issues. Changed to a slimmer case to utilize the fast wireless charging. It'll charge some, but not all the time. Always starts. I tried to use it over night and found in the morning the battery was like 65% and the charger was flashing on the LED indicator. Not sure what happens. Maybe I'm bumping it in my sleep? But it seems to be centered.
I have the same issue sometimes. My guess is placement of the Mate is not correct, and then the charger starts with a low charging power and when it tries to increase, it gets issues as the phone is not 100% aligned.
