VZW Firmware not working on Verizon Straight Talk Sim - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hello, I have a TMO Note 8 which I have unlocked from Tmobile. I flashed the firmware and carrier to VZW, bought a Straight talk Verizon sim card and service plan but i cannot get any data to activate. I receive the sim saying its active but no data is going through. I cannot change the APN also as it is greyed out. I used shortcut master but will not let me go into apn option to change. Thinking that this is the VZW firmware, i flashed the unlocked XAA but the same problem still persists.
Does anyone have experience in getting Verizon Sim straight talk working on a VZW flashed TMO note 8? I called in and straight talk said they could not add my IMEI for some reason and it has to do with verizon. Im out of ideas. I ported to number to an ATT sim and it works fine with LTE... any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you flash different carrier firmware i believe you still need to change the CSC, the official way with the system app. This factory resets and wipes the phone.
Did you do that yet?

I followed the changing firmware and did change the CSC. It was VZW/VZW/TMB after the first flash. then did XAA for unlock

i cant even get a verizon straight talk sim card to activate lol

GT-i9300 Sim Problems

Hi everyone. I'm having problems with my new sim card.
I am in the UK and i recently switched from o2 to iD mobile however the new sim card is not working. It says it's connected to iD network but emergency calls only. If i put the old sim card back in it works fine again. I also tried a friends iD sim card and it has the same problem. I thought it was perhaps locked to o2 only but it doesnt ask me to enter a network or an unlock code? Very confused.
Phone is rooted.
Device Model: GT-i9300
Android Version: 7.1.1
CyanogenMod version: 14.1-20161209-NIGHTLY-i9300
Would really appreciate any help
The phone won't prompt you for a network code unless you're on a stock rom. Custom roms can't interface with the simlock.
If your phone has ever seen 4.3 or later you'll need the code from the carrier at cost unless you've completed a contract and then they must unlock it for free.
I have a 4.3 btu rom if you have a btu phone: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4vTiHTBB629OVlvY0pkcXN4ak0/view?usp=drivesdk
If it has the O2 logo on the boot screen then DO NOT USE THAT ROM

Right, so you think get the phone back to a normal rom then use an unlock code?
It was/is a pay as you go phone. It's about 2-3 years old i got it off the wife when she got a new one.
When it boots now all i get is the custom cyanogen logo i believe, definitely not showing o2.
btw what exactly is a btu phone?
thanks for the advice
Download the latest stock rom from sammobile.com and flash it via Odin.

A btu phone is the worldwide unlocked edition. Carphone warehouse sells such phones as well as carrier editions, like o2, ee, 3 etc which is why i asked about the carrier splash screen.
Flash stock rom, insert new sim, enter network unlock code, flash whatever you want.

Thanks. Still in the process of attempting this(I'm slow)
So now i'm downloading the o2 firmware.
Then flash it over via Odin
Unlock phone via code
Then i'm free to use my new sim card and reinstall custom firmware like cyanogenmod without it un-unlocking itself?
thanks again for all the help btw!
By "flash whatever you want" if you want to reinstall a custom rom you'll need root. To get root you can flash chainfire autoroot (recommended) via odin or use one of those apps that claim to do it for you.
The main point is you have to be on a stock rom to network unlock the phone. There is no way around that.

Yeah i should be able to get it rooted ok not too worried about that.
I've now flashed the stock rom onto the phone. So next step is unlocking.
I've seen there are apps that can unlock it for you, such as galaxsim. If i unlocked through this method and then flashed a new firmware do you think the unlock would remain?
thanks for all the help/advice!
Ok going a bit crazy with this now
I downloaded this firmware
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9300/O2U/
I downloaded the one at the top of the page, flashed it via odin and its working fine etc. However it still isnt asking me for an unlock code and gives me the same emergency calls only.
So confused, not sure what else to try.
Put a sim card in from another network for the code prompt but you will still need a code. The only way to unlock it is to pay the original carrier who first issued the phone, the store it was bought from, or a phone repair shop.
When you have the code from the carrier, put the sim from another network in, enter the code when prompted and it'll immediately unlock for ALL carriers.
If you take it to a store they do the unlock process for you.
Galaxsim is old and defunct, for use on devices never updated.
The nvram edit doesn't work after 4.2.

Yeah that's the thing i still have my old o2 sim and if i put that in it works fine. Then when i try to put my new iD sim in it just sticks to emergency calls.
I think we're im at now is i have an o2 locked phone but because of previous firmware changes it wont prompt me for an unlock code. Also i tested both sims in another phone and they work fine.
Might take it to a shop today see if they can fix it.
O2 wouldn't have relocked the phone. The only thing I can think of is a software issue.
Did you have the correct apn dialled in?

Help needed with Note 8 from Sprint, now on T-Mobile

I just switched from Sprint to TMB with my Note 8. It is unlocked and working with TMB SIM card. I had some issues with menus etc when I first switched due to the differences between what the two carriers load on the phones, so I downloaded the 7.1.1 software load for TMB from sammobile. Most of it works, some of it doesn't, and I suspect I didn't do it completely right since it didn't wipe my data. So, now I am wondering if my phone will get the OTA Oreo push from TMB, or what I need to do to get it, and have it work correctly.
Thanks for the help!

You'll need to go through that guide for a complete carrier switch. I did it twice for a buddy of mine and it worked perfectly, then you flash stock firmware and it will receive ota's.

SM-G965U1 Sprint to T-Mobile issue PRL Profile Issues

Hello,
I have a SM-G965U1 I bought it new and unlocked and I had it on Boost Mobile (sprint) for a year and switched to Mint Mobile (T-Mobile). I keep getting prompts for updating PRL and Profile after an OTA a few days back I looked up the firmware and such and noticed my firmware and radio is for Sprint version side. Is there a way to wipe the radio information or update it so it starts getting the T-Mobile OTA's? I understand CDMA requires PRL and Profile data and GSM does not but these pop ups are crazy.
Thank you!

What does your phones CSC read ?
settings> about phone> software information> service provider SW ver.
You might need to flash a universal firmware to avoid future issues
Thanks I did but this phone outright at best buy unlocked and had it on boost mobile but thanks I see that it had installed the boost software. Is there a way to switch without wiping my phone and I am not sure what i should install i know how to use oden and such tho.
Thanks!

So the way I did it was I used Frija the firmware downloader tool and got the tmobile firmware make sure that its greater than your current firmware. Then if you chose one of the CSC options I forget which one, it won't wipe your stuff. There's home and something else, I don't remember which one doesn't wipe but a google will probably help you out. I had Sprint and bought out my phone and then flashed the TMO firmware and now have a TMO sim in my phone. Also if you hate phone carriers and the software they use, I was running the SM-G965U1 firmware but I wanted the visual voicemail and stuff so I just flashed that.
Yea ok... this phone isnt rooted or anything I just might look into it but I was looking around but I'll take your advice and look for csc in that search aslo.

need instruction on career switching

hi i have a verizon tab s6 sm-t867v(lte version) the stock rom does not let you use phone app to do calls and messages app dont work. all the calls or messages should go throug the verizon propritory messages+ app ,where you need to add verizon number. . and the tablet is unlocked to any career. . I DONT WANT TO ROOT THE DEVICE. i did a career switch for my note 8 from att to tmobile without rooting so i thought i can do the same to tab s6. i have few questions
1. is there a way i can swap for another career rom
2. can i flash international rom just throug odin so that i dont deal with verizon bloatware.
can any one point me to the files and the thread.
is there a way i can use calling and texting on without going throug messages+ app. thanks for the help in advance. i am sorry if anythin i ask is silly. peace

Yes you can switch the firmware on the sm-t867v from Verizon to TMobile or Sprint. It keeps the bootloader locked down so root is still impossible but since you are not looking to root it just switching the firmware version should work just fine. I personally have metro pcs and their $15 unlimited tablet data plan on mine and I switched my firmware to TMobile so I could pick up the LTE bands it would not connect to with the Verizon firmware. All you need to do is download the modified Odin 3.14 and the firmware of the carrier you wish to switch to. It HAS to have the same base model. For example I went from the SM-T867V firmware and flashed the SM-T867U firmware to the device. So your firmware choice absolutely MUST have the SM-T867 in the beginning of it. Any other firmware will most likely brick your device if Odin even allows it to flash. The thing that makes the difference between Verizon and TMobile is the user userdata file. You must flash it with the rest of the firmware files, So BL, AP, CP, CSC, and Userdata. Don't worry, the stock firmware will come with the userdata file. Also its best that you don't flash the CSC-Home file but flash the regular CSC file as the home one will not delete your data and its probably best to do a full wipe when switching firmwares, so make sure you back up anything you don't wish to lose. When the flashing is finished it will boot and instead of the white screen with big red circle for Verizon you will get a pink TMobile screen and it will be model SM-T867U now. All OTA updates will still work without problem and you will get a functional dial pad which works for all the secret menus and all that fun stuff. BTW, I take absolutely no responsibility if for some reason it messes up or bricks your tab s6 lte. Goodluck and enjoy your non Verizon tablet.

I'm glad it worked for you without any major issues. This was the first thread I've given any real instruction on. Hope your tab continues to work perfectly. I broke the screen on mine so the only thing it's really used for is an android PC. Thank God for the Tab S6`s ability to output video so easily and the Samsung DEX software.

SM-T978U Odin Firmware Flash

Purchased a sim unlocked SM-T978U (Verizon Tab S7+ 5G) and am trying to flash the unlocked or Tmobile stock firmware to it. I've gotten "passed" flashes everything when flashing all of the files from the corresponding stock firmwares, but everything it boots back into the Verizon firmware. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong that would cause this? I've probably flashed this thing 20 times at this point.
its a verizon tablet so thats normal.. u need to change csc is all
Thought that was part of flashing it with the patched version of Odin with a different CSC version of the firmware, but I've not done this before. Any suggestions or resources you can point to on how to do this? Thanks!

patched odin only removes hash checks.. all the firmware has multi csc (all the usa csc) so simply flashing firmware doesnt change csc
Gotcha, so change the CSC first, then flash the matching firmware? What's the best method for changing the CSC on the S7+? This process? https://www.**********.com/how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/
Any suggestions on how to change the CSC? I've hit a wall and haven't been able to find a way to change it and then flash the desired firmware.

You need to flash with odin, wipe, then pop the other carrier sim in, on reboot it will boot with that carrier sw.

Ok, so SIM out, Odin flash with the TMB firmware. Then, what do you mean "wipe?" Is that just choosing the CSC file in Odin so that it resets all data, or some step after to wipe it?
So I tried again with these steps and had the same result, back into the Verizon firmware.
Removed Tmobile Sim
Odin flash TMB firmware
Tablet reboots automatically into VZW firmware
Then booted into recovery mode and performed a factory reset and cache wipe
Reinserted Sim and reboot
Tablet still boots into VZW firmware
I also tried this same process but with the unlocked "USC" firmware with the same results.
Am I supposed to somehow prevent the first boot after odin flash to perform the factory reset? I've tried that unsuccessfully but maybe I have the timing off or something.

dunno wat ur flashing but all the firmware is the same.. theyre all multi csc.. so simply flashing different firmwares wont change csc lol
I don't know if this will help but on some samsung phones you can change the csc by opening the dailer and typing "*#272*IMEI number#"
edit: IMEI must me copied from the about tablet section in the settings. Press on the IMEI for a second and it will be copied to clipboard. Typing the IMEI will not likely not work.
After entering this in the dailer a menu pops up and you can select csc. Note this will usually factory reset the device.
Yes if you try this, please let me know if it works. I have the T878u 5g from Tmobile.
Any update on this? I purchased an SM-T978U (on Samsung website that is t-mobile S7+)
I expected it to not be carrier or network locked but it was locked to the t-mobile network.
Would love to flash an unlocked firmware but I can't find SM-T978U firmware, let alone U1 firmware...... I realize that flashing U1 firmware won't unlock the network but T-mobile support tells me the device can't possibly be truly carrier locked because the IMEI isn't even in their system. So I thought maybe the carrier lock is in their app tied to the system instead of the actual device??
Anyway has anyone found the firmware for these devices? Sammobile doesn't seem to list SM-T978 as a device
These devices don't have a dialer so entering the IMEI method mentioned above won't work unless there is a trick?
Guys, for cross flashing, you must factory reset from within the OS before you flash. the newer security measures will not allow the device to accept even a full flash if the device is activation locked to an account. that is likely why you are flashing and still getting the vzw stuff to come up.
@elliwigy , though the devices are all loaded with multiple csc's, and you can change them on demand (if you know how), that will not automatically load the carrier branded bloatware that comes with each firmware, and certain settings that may, or may not, be enabled or disabled by the carrier. An example being native video calling that the verizon firmware has and the unlocked firmware does not.
I almost always flash my Verizon devices with the U1 XAA unlocked software. Among other things, this lets me get security patches faster, as i get them when sammy releases them, not when vzw gets around to it. I say almost always because there are still a few devices, like my tab s6, that are vzw models with some minor hardware changes that prevent it. But in the case of my Tab S7+ and my Note20Ultra, they are both rocking U1 XAA firmware.

I'm pretty stumped like OP. Where are you finding U1 XAA for Tab S7+? Doesn't seem to turn up anywhere. Would definitely appreciate it if you could provide a link. Thanks.
I tried resetting before flashing and unchecked the auto-reboot but mine still returns to Tmobile. I just want the call and text on other devices feature.
Edit: I go the feature to work without flashing a new firmware but I am still looking for U1 XAA for the tab if anyone found it.
