Debloat Huawei Mate 10 Pro - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

I have recently rooted my Huawei Mate 10 Pro. And have attempted to use multiple root uninstall applications to remove some bloat (system applications) from my device with little success.
For example - Root Uninstaller Pro - An error message appears stating - "Rooted, but can not grant RW permission on /system folder ".
Is there any other way to debloat our device?

Manually with root explorer or terminal.
mount -o rw,remount /system (some apps use remount,rw which fails)
And make sure to open /vendor/etc/fstab.kirin970 and remove verify/avb from /vendor and /system.
Edit: what bloat do you have in System?
I only have them in /data/hw_init/

What is this for?
Remove verify/avb from /vendor and /system.

Dm-verity and avb (android verified boot).
https://source.android.com/security/verifiedboot/
Well, normally it would make a "your device is corrupted" bla bla screen appear when you boot (not sure what the limit is of removed files) but on Mate 9 it just restores the files you removed.

Yup, ",avb". Verity is not necessary as its only on /patch

[Tutorial] Root Your EVO3D with Automated Scripts

Simple to use. Useful for those who want ROOT access via ADB or Device for Backup, etc. It is a modified scripts from Doomlord and some1 in the CDMA threads...
Prerequisites
1) Uninstall all HTC Sync & Drivers
2) Download and install http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
3) Make sure your device Display is set to NEVER TURN OFF & not locked in the lockscreen
Instructions
1. Download attachment
2. Extract to C:\
3. Execute file Step 1
4. Execute file Step 2. If doesnt work, go to C:\files and execute Step 2
5. Remount SD card again from the DEVICE SETTINGS page
This will work for all devices not limited to EVO 3D.
For locked bootloaders (any versions), this will result in a temporary ROOT access, and will be lost after reboot.
Please feedback for whichever H-Boot this works on.
Thanks to our following comrades...

DoomLord with the automated script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1321582
For the third guy I cant remember where.. maybe the CDMA section with the permatemproot stuff..
With this script, Titanium Backup and Root Explorer will definitely work even on LOCKED bootloaders (will lose root after reboot, just rerun the script)
For problems especially with SUPERUSER FCs, please download and run the .bat file in the UNROOT.zip. This will clean the system of all old temp root stuffs like superusers, etc...
Appreciate your thanks..
i dun understand why but it didn't work as did ur last tool, it always saids adb server out-of-date, re running or sth, it does the same in every step, and when it comes to moving files/manipulating permissions, i just get loads of errors
I'm on HBOOT 1.49.0012
P.S. i cant unlock using HTC Unlock method too no matter how many times i try (i read the instructions carefully and followed them closely) but still got unlock token check failed error......

Reboot your device and try again... see edited post above..
Not sure about HTC Unlock method...
For UNLOCKED evos, it will give permanent ROOT access
For LOCKED evos, it will give temporary ROOT access
If you have problem unlocking, try grabbing a RUU file here and reflash your ROM... maybe factory reset wont hurt either...
it has run thru all the process with success, but when i try to open root explorer it show superuser force close???

Also the Same thing happened to me !!!!
Yup, not working here either.
It says it installs everything ok, but when I go to update the su binary, it force closes out. When I use TI backup, it says I don't have root access.
Hope this helps so that we can at least get temp root. I just want to remove the bloatware!
Thanks for the hard work in any event!
tried this on sensation xl and it worked, root access to some apps like root explorer but terminal says access denied. it seems to unmount the internal sd card which programs need to run and only a reboot remounts sdcard but obviously root is gone after reboot. hope one of the XL devs can use this to create a working solution for our XL

dont need to update the SU binary.. just run the scripts and they are good to go...
however, SYSTEM/APP are in locked partition of the bootloader.. you may need to unlock your bootloader first.. but you may remove some in the Data/app llike gmail and stuffs (i prefer Exchange email than using Gmail app)

S-OFF not required.
FULL ROOT if UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS
TEMP ROOT if LOCKED BOOTLOADERS
Reason : Files in SYSTEM partition are locked, hence changes made are temporary and will be lost after reboot
Yep full root acheived with u.locked bootloader on HTC sensation xl. Confirmed and working
Sent from my HTC Nexus One using xda premium
Just tried on my HK Evo3D (HBoot 1.49.0012, completely stock, no HTC unlock) and it works. But it took me a few trials to get it working.
For those who have problems with the script (e.g., permission problems during the script) try:
(In the following steps, make sure ur evo3d is disconnected from ur pc when you reboot it. Just to make sure that it is clean.)
1) reboot your phone
2) run the unroot script
3) reboot once more
4) run the root script "Step 1.bat"
5) *** go into the "files" directory ***, and run the "Step 2.bat"
6) at this step you should see the superuser is installed (check the app drawer)
7) go to Settings to mount your sd card
I have managed to root it and run through a titanium backup successfully. Thanks for the great work!
Though temp root is gained, system is still mounted as read-only
tried these, neither one worked:
1) adb remount
"remount failed: Read-only file system"
2) su; busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
No messages, no errors. But still system is in ro mode:
# busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
# mount | grep system
mount | grep system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 on /system type ext4 (ro,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered)
3) su; fixit; busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
Same result.
Seems, after running "Step 1.bat", the /system is temporary mounted as "rw", (that's why the script could complete without warnings/errors). But after Step 2 finishes, /system is back to "ro" no matter what...
Any insights?

You may have previously attempted some other methods, therefore you need to clean the system first...
If your bootloader is LOCKED, you still can gain TEMPORARY ROOT access and run you Titanium Backup (restore settings, data apps).. however, the SYSTEM partition is still locked, which means, whatever changes you done to the SYSTEM partition (like restoring some SYSTEM apps) will be lost after reboot.
I got forceclose with the superuser.
I dont know why, but i guess the root process was finished
Got temp root and su support with untampered stock (vodafone branding), unlocked bootloader HBoot 1.49.0018 on HTC EVO 3D GSM shooteru
System continues to be (expectedly) in ro mode.
Lost access to SD card, had to reboot to use it again...
Permanently disabled without any problems some apps that were bugging me - Thanks

Thanks for your inputs. But my phone was completely stock and I have never tried other root methods before trying this one.
I observed that, /system actually get rw for a short time after the mount -o remount,rw command in step 1. But somehow it will get back to ro by itself. The time is unpredictable in a sense that sometimes step 1 script cannot finish successfully (cannot copy busybox, su to /system because it changes back to ro so quickly).
I know that the SYSTEM rw is just an overlay and all changes will be gone once rebooted. I am asking this because I just wonder if I could playaround and test something like changing fonts without s-off or HTC unlock.

Yep, it dawned on me and I found that option - now I can use Titan to backup everything
Is there a possibility to add automatic remounting the SD into the script using adb? I am not really familiar with this...

Can't delete/modify system files.

Hello.
I've installed viper4android on my mido. Everything is ok, but there is a background static sound when music is being played. According to the viper FAQ I need to delete /system/lib/soundfx/libbundlewrapper.so. What did I do:
1. Mount system as rw
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount,rw /system
2. try to rename that file
cd /system/lib/soundfx
mv libbundlewrapper.so libbudnlewrapper-2.so.bak
3. No success. Trying to create backup in a file manager and than trying to delete it. Still no luck. Changed system to ro and I'll wait for suggestions.
The file is there like I haven't done anything. The uncharted territory of the system partition still awaits for me. What I can do next to get the thing to work?

Nope, you haven't mounted system in twrp, that's the reason you are only seeing /usr
So do this
From main menu, select "mount" and there select System, also make sure that the "system" box is checked and the box saying "mount system partition as read only" is unchecked(I've attached a screenshot for reference). Now you can easily go to /system and it should list the files and folders., And you can delete the file you want. Quote me if you need more help

Emui 9.1. The system partition does not go in rw

Hello. I installed emui 9.1 on my mate20pro with the dload method. I unlocked the bootloader again and rooted the system with patched recovery. The phone is rooted, but the system partition remains in ro. I have tried various apps to mount the system in rw, but without success. I have also tried some commands found on the net both through adb and emulator, but nothing to do. I have also tried using rootexplorer which has been granted root permissions, but fails to modify anything, nor to insert or delete files within the system folders. What can be done?

it's the new filesystem called erofs (Extendable Read-Only File System)
So there's nothing to do?
Sorry OP if this is off topic , but its about magisk and root in 9.1
I have the "system partition remains in ro" issue too , its annoying yes , but I have a bigger problem
When "rooted" , the phone app ( dialer ), and the contacts app both get broken and crash .. So I have to fastbootflash twrp and lose root to make those apps to work normally again
Anyone with the same problem ?
I need root so I can change and use the font ( I like ) with a magisk module

Magisk can already 'replace on the fly' file from /system systemless-y.
It dies already support erofs.
Check Magisk documentations.
There is also a way to mount custom erofs partition....
which is?

Unmount stock ones and mount yours.
I just did some test 48h ago on erofs /cust and it seems to work...

Magisk Doc. :
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/
So far, out-of-the-box, Magisk is already ready to replace systemless-ly files and paths on /system easily when used with modules.
-Module just need a a small tweak to add Magisk systemless-ly compatibility to other erofs partitions like /cust
Another way would be to bind or mount...

Hi, I saw that you managed to get a custom erofs partition mounted using magisk. I was wondering if the same could be done for the/product folder because that would allow me to fix the DPI scaling issues found on EMUI 9.0-9.1. Would it be possible to see the code for your magisk module?
Ok, So.
After having a look at what I did with this WorkInProgress...
So far there is 2 main way I thought about and played with:
Method A
A1/
Using the mkfs.erofs tool to make your custom erofs partition and mount it over the original one. (mayne umount it before)
Thanks @ph03n!x for his work on mkfs.erofs.
Thanks @ante0 for his android arm build.
A2/
I did not yet tryed to flash via fastboot or adb these modded erofs images.
Method B
What I'm actually doing is just mounting systemless-y with a magisk module whole folders over erofs one ;
In post-fs-data.sh, I'm doing:
mount -o bind $MODDIR/cust /cust
mount -o bind $MODDIR/version /version
With a ~150MB custom /cust it is working ; It should be tryed/perfected for bigger folders.
Another way, to not replace/spoof the whole folders could be to mount the whole list of custom files at their respective path (-to be tested)
PS: I'm not sure if update-binary module's file should be modded with some:
mount /cust 2>/dev/null

I'm rather new to this trying to do something similar on my EMUI9.1 using Magisk, I'm having a problem that i can replace anything in most other folders without much problem like /etc/ for example, but when i try to substitute /vendor/, whatever i put it the folder does not only fail to get substituted, it even disappears from the $MODDIR/system/vendor folder upon restart!
I.e. let's say I create a new file in $MODDIR/system/etc. Upon restart i'm successfully seeing that same file appear /etc.
However when I create a new file under $MODDIR/system/vendor, Upon restart i'm not seeing that under /vendor. ALSO the file is gone from $MODDIR/system/vendor like it was never there.
Any idea what is happening? I've also tried manually mounting in the post-fs-data.sh, where i put the following:
mount -o bind $MODDIR/system/vendor /vendor
That actually caused my system to freeze on the loading screen. I had to reset magisk to non-modded settings in order to get it to run again.
Any help's appreciated.

i got the solution of above problem from this https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p30-pro/how-to/guide-magisk-root-p30-pro-bl-code-t3938285
Hi I have almost the same issue after updating to EMUI 9.1 the phone hardbricked. It only shows as fastboot on my PC I tried flashing but not sending the img files please help

Can't mount /system R/W in either TWRP or OFox

I wanted to delete some files from the system like some useless system apps/themes etc. I was trying to root my phone with magisk. The magisk would install but I couldn't make any kind of changes because I found it was read-only! Now if I want it to mount read-write, it just won't. Any solutions, anyone?

Try this script from this thread.
You can't mount system because of dynamic partitions (super partition). The script linked above doesn't mount system rw, it just makes a new super partition.
The real way to make edits to dynamic partitions is with adb remount which replaces the old 'mount -o rw, remount /system' method.
The practical way to make edits is systemlessly with a magisk module.

Why not try debloater magisk?

/system' not in /proc/mounts

Good excuse me, I would like to see if the mount error could be solved: '/system' not in /proc/mounts which does not allow me to remove system apps from a gsi, and I would also like to convert system apps but it does not let me. Which error appears in linksd

Command 'mount -o remount,rw /system' doesn't work on emui 9.1 using an external terminal (Termux etc.) due to EROFS.
On GSI use terminal in TWRP (root required).
Also you have to install vndklite GSI version, nonvndklite is read-only!

Hi ALF, well actually I was thinking of deleting some apps to replace them as system apps, like the system camera, or the messaging app, I was thinking of doing those exchanges, but if it can't be done, I'll leave it as it is, thanks
I'm on the CAOS version: caos-v300l-210117-arm64-bvZ.img
