Hello there I'm an avid android user rooting and roms. I wanted to ask everyone about how we can grow a community for verizon wewr 24 smart watch. Given the price $80 I think it's the best bang for the bucks as every other watch is north of 200. Wanted to know how I could make that happen. Coz with custom rom unlocked bootloader this thing could be a beast !!
Well I bought one, and I can second the fact that I would be interested in using a custom rom. However what you need is someone who can actually get into the nuts and bolts, to buy one and feel like if they put time into doing that work, that there would be a big enough audience that it would be worth it. There has to be at least a decent sized audience, then you might get a second wave of buys from this community if people see progress. So I think step one, show that an audience of users that want a custom rom on the Wear24 exists.
I also have some interest. I'd be willing to help, but I'm not really sure where to start. I know that with phones Verizon has locked the bootloader and made it tough to get root. I wonder if that is the case with the watch also.
I'm also super interested, mainly to enable NFC (for Android Pay, which seems to be a problem for rooted phones) and LTE on other networks. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive in the UK, it's currently stuck at ebay's Global Shipping Center for more than 4 days. I don't know the first thing about developing a root or custom rom, but I'll try to learn.
Hey guys,
I am also interested in development for this watch, I've kept it on wear v1.5 for now, since I enjoy using it for the mic from time to time, and have disabled cellular and the sim, and am getting around 3 days of consistent battery life with light use, always on screen, and motion wake. Some issues I am having - besides the annoyingly persistent update available notification, is that phone calls from my contacts come in on the watch, but unknown calls don't notify me. Additionally, using ok google to text works but the watch still displays an error and to do it on the phone.
Adb seems to require a rooted watch to disable the vzn messages+ or the update notification - as it kept giving me errors, but maybe someone else can figure that out. I also tried the command oem unlock with no luck, as I couldn't get the watch to accept adb commands in recovery.
My recovery mode lists the watch as dorado v1.21.
Any suggestions/advice?
I also just purchased one. They are now on sale for 50$. I would be willing to toss an additional 50$ to the first developer that could get a clean running android wear port running. And enable the NFC. I am not a verizon customer, nor do i have any intention of ever activation the LTE on a watch.
I too jumped on the $50 price tag in hopes of root and custom ROM at some point in the near future. Would be cool to make this thing as good as it could be instead of the gutted version Verizon tried to sell us.
Same here , got one for $50 today. hoping to find port a clean 2.0 rom. Willing to help.
Got one for $50 today as well.
Perhaps we find a developer and buy them a watch
Another new guy here as of my order today.
Definitely interested in a clean wear 2.0 ROM, and happy to test - watch was an impulse buy due to price, so willing to risk bricks.
Same here guys. Been on the fence for months about buying a smartwatch. I wanted one like Fossil or Movado (super pricey), but in no way could justify the pricing, especially with missing features like Android Pay and not even having Wear 3.0.
At $50, I don't care about missing features now!
Where can I find the 2.7 update or any custom wear rom?
I had one of these watches when they first launched. I returned it because of the vzw crap they put on it. I don't like Verizon messages app and it really wants you to use it. I would buy one again and also throw in $50 to anyone willing to get root and work a custom ROM for it. I have rooted all of my previous Android phones before the pixel XL and would love to root this watch to get rid of vzw apps and just run what I want with better functionality! If anyone is interested please let us know!
Also picked up the $50 watch and would love to have a clean watch as well. NFC payment would be a plus but mostly want to get all the junk off this watch.
Has anyone had any success with contacting verizon to get them to release the GPL source code ?
I think that would be the best place to start.
Find some contact info. and start bombarding them en mass with requests.

Isn't this just a white-label device? If so, would we target Verizon for GPL or the actual manufacturer, Quanta Computer?
id increase the bounty, $25 from me to a dev who can get NFC working and extra LTE band support
Found this interesting. In a verizon promo video it has the android pay app on the watch. I won't get mine until next week. Is this app on there but doesn't work?

I started setting up a gofundme... But lost interest, to much work to set one up. I thing a 15-20$ buy in would raise quite a bit of money for a developer

I don't care about LTE, but I'm in for $20 for NFC functional with Android pay.

Probably a good thing you don't. Not sure you have enough room in your sig, to house another device worth of info
Was going to jump to sprint to get this. Finally leave Verizon. These reviews are pretty bad though. Hopefully with updates some of these issues can be fixed.

The best YT vid I watched said something to the tune of:
if you need a new device, it's a great first or replacement. I would not sell my M8 to get the M9, as there are not enough improvements to the platform. Stick with the M8.
That's rather telling, I would say.

n
really there is no improvement. seeing the m9 review. the camera is not good. that why is not worth it,
Well here's a little "pick me up":good:
When you're all ready for it:
[NOOB Friendly] Root and Install TWRP on HTC One M9
Latest version of M9 TWRP, direct DL page:
http://teamw.in/devices/htconem9.html
Probably.
This will be a long version of saying YES, so here goes...
I had the M7, loved it. Jumped right on the M8 and "liked" it. My biggest issue with the M8 is kind of a silly one and it's mostly a behavior thing for me. Essentially, I couldn't stand how slippery the lil' bastard was. In my first few days, I dropped it on the pavement just carrying it to my car. Most of the drops were at my desk, just trying to do one-handed input. The thing is large, even for my large hands, so one-handed input was tricky, especially with a slippery phone. Now, most of you probably wonder, "Why the hell don't you just get a case?" Simple. I don't like cases much. I like the feel of the slim device in my hand without extra bulk. Often times, I slip the phone into the back pocket of my Levis. That's where my problems began. Sitting on a 2nd story balcony at dinner one night, my back was to the railing. The phone was so slippery that it slipped out of my back pocket and dropped two stories to the sidewalk below (thank God nobody got hurt). Shattered screen, requested my insurance replacement and got it in two days. The problem was, every single replacement (3 in total) had a blown speaker. After Sprint sending me 3 different replacements, I was so pissed that I switched to the Galaxy S5.
The Galaxy S5 is my first Samsung and now I know why. It's a big ol' piece of sh!t. Slow, clunky, plastic, TouchWiz - need I say more?
Bottom line, I've heard that the M9 has a better grip and isn't as slippery as the M8, so I'm thinking I have to switch back. Just can't handle this Samsung junk. I'll be selling it on eBay with all the accessories (Mophie case, extra battery with a dual charging dock, carbon fiber slim case, and a shatter proof screen protector).

I really want to but I'm so used to the note 3 features like spen that it's going to be tough. Not to mention the much larger screen. I love htc though and dislike touchwiz but have got used to it. I really want those dual speakers though. So badly wanted the prime or larger version.... And I get the reason to stick with the m8 if you have it.. I stayed with the note 3 over the note 4 for the same reasons and am happy I did.
I'm honestly hoping to hold on for the note 5 or if this m9 prime is ever released maybe they will have worked out the bugs of this one first.. So tough when your ready for a change. The wait is grueling but I want to be happy about buying a $600 pocket computer. ..
Totes ma goat sent from ma note
Anyone else already have theirs?
Going to get mine after I pay my Easy Pay stuff off next week, hopefully there's some form of CM ready when I get it. I'm sick and tired of the G3's development scene, all the GSM variants get the good ROMs while the Sprint variant had to rely on some ducktape & staple version of CM (Seriously, they increased the max volume and tried to fix NFC for the 1000th time and called it a "nightly") . I'll be really excited if CM11.1 gets ported because Holo is damn pretty on the M8 but I doubt it's gonna happen.
I am coming from the m7 looking forward to the m9
Got mine a few days ago at an event here in Los Angeles. Loving it
Sprint store or Bestbuy?
I revisit this decision every upgrade. Times have changed and are their any benefits to one or the other?
Bestbuy used to carry a better damage warranty/replacement deal long time ago. No frills no questions asked.
No more. They take the monthly charge and no matter what it is, they want another 150$. Plus they dont offer a loaner till you get a new one.
Used to have sprint plan similar to above, but have not since they use assurion.

So it's been a while since I've used a samsung device (note 3). Normally, the first thing I do when I get a new phone is root it, but I'm concerned that samsung pay will require knox to be intact. Any thoughts? Was a way to reset knox ever discovered for newer samsung phones? Just thinking out loud.

The only thought to be had about the matter right now is, it might require KNOX, it might not.
It's not even a thing at the moment, so there's just no real information about it out there.
i'm willing to give up root for samsung pay.
samsung pay is so awesome! it said loopPay works with 90% of retailers, so which 10% of retailers dont work?

Plus their talking the summer before it's live and that's just the U.S., and Korea, that means NOTHING in the real world. Who's summer, early or late summer, is it a update the carries must push or just an app? I wanted to give it a go if it was "working out the box" but again it was another Samsung marketing scheme! Note 5, S7, may have it working out the box.

why can't I use loopPay now ? what is with this summer BS ?

It might no be 100% confirmed but common sense would say that it wouldn't work with a modified OS. Payment security is a big deal and massive concern for many company's .

I'm I the only one whos wondering how this will improve my life? I mean am i missing an obvious feature of sampay? will all my cards suddenly stop working? LoL It'll be cool and all that but how will it change the way I do anything?
Just wondering why so many people won't root for something that a piece of plastic I already have in my wallet does?
I need to be educated more on this topic

It wont improve your life..
Logic rarely comes into play when a cell phone feature is marketed as "must have";
The reality is, if you plan on using your cell phone as your financial conduit in your daily life, you have to be prepared to deal with the consequences of identity theft, hackers, and the nightmare of a lost or misplaced /hacked/phone /credit card machine..
I mean I have used Google wallet a couple times for proof of concept, but I am much too cautious, and concerned about using ANY electronic device in the manner that Samsung is hawking this process; don't forget, Samsung will make a commission on EVERY TRANSACTION you might do with your cell phone, so, as always, its only motivation is more profit for Samsung, nothing more, and nothing less
If you are all for that, enjoy this procedure, whenever it happens to come out.
But, the vast majority of us will continue to pay as we always have..
Its just as easy to take a credit card out of my pocket, as it is to take my cell phone out of my pocket..

It won't drastically improve your life, but it's a practical feature that can be useful for some people. Maybe for people who don't like carrying wallets. You can just stick your ID in between your phone and your phone case, and you're good to go.
Also, if you forget your wallet... Something that might happen these days considering how everyone has their phone with them no matter what.
If we can use Samsung pay with next Gear Watch like Apple did with their Watch... Man, that is huge.

I've had the V30 since launch and am looking hard at the V60. I've never owned a Samsung, but also considering the S20.
I currently have a Note9 as my main device and a Mate 10 Pro as a back up. This is because I really like using a desktop mode on my device. Now LG have implemented a version they come into my sights as a viable option. And the V60 looks to be an awesome option. The second screen looks genuinely useful as well.
I'm considering the V60 as my next option. I'm on a Moto Z Play with a cracked screen so I've been looking for something to upgrade to for quite some time. The V60 checks all the boxes I need:
good sized battery
good screen
good connectivity
good audio
good features
I probably won't use the dual screen accessory often. If they price the V60 right, it will be an instant buy for me.
Depends on whether I can remap the STUPID assistant button or not. If I cannot remap it, then absolutely NO! Turning it off is not good enough. If it is there I want it to do something, but I never use these useless assistants at all!
I'm extremely tempted.. after ordering my s20 Ultra 3 weeks ago and coupled by the fact that I am still awaiting it to ship I'm about to cancel my order and await for this to officially drop.
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
I'll probably think about getting one because I'm not satisfied with my LG G8 battery life. It's kinda bad. Probably a bad unit, I know most people are getting decent battery life.
Although the V60 will probably be too big for me. Owned a 6.4" phone in the past and it was big, but 6.8"? Damn lol

Did a live chat with LG tech support yesterday to ask whether the STUPID dedicated Google Assistant button could be remapped to anything more useful...The answer was NO. So I told the tech to forward my decision to those who make such decisions that they lost a sale. I hate useless features that cannot be disabled, uninstalled, or especially for a hardware button...cannot be remapped to something else. Their loss...many more fish in the sea! Looking at the new Sony Xperia 1 Mark 2. Meh
Ordered mine first thing this morning. Glad I did because AT&T is now out of stock already lol. Can't wait to come back to LG after having an iPhone for 2 years. I still use my V20 for things my iPhone can't do. I shouldn't need a supplementary phone if I paid $1k.

I look forward to hearing from you on the remapping issue. I have done a great deal of searching for answers to my question with several different LG devices that have the button incorporated into the hardware and the answer is always a big fat NO to LG allowing a remap of the Google Assistant button. I have read about a few work around's or 3rd party apps that partially work, and then there are those who say the work around's do NOT work for them...so it appears to be hit-and-miss. Some have surmised that it is Google that doesn't allow this to take place. If that is so then Google must be paying a tidy sum to LG and other OEM's that include the button in their devices. This to me is the epitome of arrogance to think that people want their useless crap forced on them when paying major money for a cell phone. I will be sure to spend my money elsewhere. For LG to agree to a $$$$ contract with Google for something like this will not bale them out of bankruptcy should this phone fail...in fact...it may lead directly to the very failure they're trying to avoid. So sad!

Guys I bought this device when it first came out, never did I ever think there would be zero dev interest in the device, or perhaps it would be better to state that the reason there isn't much in the way of dev interest is because Huawei has this device locked down with EMUI and it appears no one can break through. For those who don't need root then this doesn't really matter, but most of my apps do require root. My final solution was to forget the Huawei device and I bought what I believe is the most powerful device on the market today and I've already rooted it and I'm flying along. That device is the Asus Rog Phone 2, you might want to take a look at this and then decide.

I wish all of you the very best but I had enough of Huawei. To be fair I don't think the problem is all about Huawei, a big part of it is the clown in the White House.

Good luck, I hope you still have the same enthusiasm after getting used to it.

I'm not a gamer either, my philosophy however is that gaming devices are more reliable and sturdy because of the punishment they take from actual gamer's. My thought is it if holds up for a gamer then it should be no problem for me. So far this phone has proven me correct. One of the specs that blows me away is that there is a setting to set the device to 240 refresh, that's pretty darn quick. If you have any questions I'm open to answering them, that's how impressed I am with this puppy
Every phone I owned for the last 10 years was rooted. I bought the P30 Pro knowing I couldn't and wouldn't root, and I've never been happier.
"All your apps" require root? Your phone sounds FUN! Seriously, no games? No social media? I agree, a lot of apps need root, all of which are important, if you're rooted. Ad-block is the main reason for rooting, but you can't just have ad-block, you need Magisk manager, obviously. And twrp manager, because you need twrp to flash your root. Root browser, for those times you need to fix things you screwed up by being rooted. Greenify, to act as a placebo, because now you're rooted you can't be sure things work as they should. Busy Box for... erm, well nobody really knows what that's for. So yeah that's at least 6 apps. For one thing.
Once I realised you can block ads using the private DNS feature in Android 10, all of the above was pointless.

100% completely agree with you. Have rooted all my android phones in the last 10 years and bought P30 Pro knowing couldn't root it. I use adguard private DNS to block ads and then found out can used YouTube vanced on non rooted phones by simply installing the apk. After thinking could never live without root I'm finding it particularly easy at the moment!
I've rooted every Android phone I've ever had, except my Honor 9, but don't really feel the need for the P30 Pro. Sure there are apps I can't use or install because I'm not rooted but that doesn't detract from an amazing phone. Those [required root ] apps I can probably do without anyway.
Would you run Linux as root permanently? Really?
The choice of rooting or not rooting should be a decision made by the owner of the device, not by the manufacturer. Android is marketed as open source; the practice of not allowing bootloader unlocking defeats that entirely.
Would you buy a car to then be told you're not allowed to modify it in any way? Really?
I am also disappointed but these days there is less and less reason for root. Right not, there are only three features I miss without root:
1. No Titanium Backup, so no easy way to do a full backup and make sure everything is backed up and can be restored
2. No way to limit battery charge (so it doesnt go up to 100%)
3. No DNS adblock (VPN work around is the closest I can find but that seems like it would drain battery)

Android is NOT "marketed as open source". Show me a commercial website where it is "marketed" as such.
Android IS open source for OEMs to adapt to their devices! You bought a piece of hardware from Huawei, with a compiled Android OS. You can get the source code for Android if you want, but it comes with no hardware and no guarantee.
And your car analogy is terrible. Imagine modifying your car's software... and then your tachometer doesn't work right, or your battery drains, or your car won't start... totally unacceptable. Yet you want to do that to your phone?
I want the option to do whatever I wish. It's really quite a simple concept

The closest analogy for the car example is remapping the ECU. Manufacturers go to great lengths to encrypt ECUs and prevent mapping - much like locking a bootloader.
A lot of car mappers have to physically solder wires to certain points on the ECU circuitboard to enable them to map and edit the ECU programming. I'm fairly certain that if you went to that extreme to root your phone you could manage it, but nobody wants root *that* much.
And if you own a car that no engine mapper fancies finding a way to map? You're SOL - much like you are with your P30 Pro.
I used to root, now I dont. I find the devices now do 99% of the things I need without root. The 1%? I can live without Titanium Backup.
I'm sure the Asus device is powerful, but a lot of the people here bought the P30 Pro because they wanted a P30 Pro, not a different phone. Thanks for the review, but it's like going on a VW forum and saying 'OMG guys, sell up and go buy this BMW - IT'S AMAZING' - we're here because we wanted the VW...
@Isis111
Now you've had your ROG 2 for a while how are you getting along with it?
Since this thread I've been following the ROG 2 forum but even though root is available there's not much development happening. I was initially very interested after you started this thread but now I'm not sure the ROG 2 is as good as you said.
So I'm interested what your thoughts are now.
Also, what version do you have, and have you been impressed enough to buy any accessories?
Cheers
Im having a device corrupt error and cannot access phone anymore. Im trying to find the stock rom to flash with MSM tool but cantyfind it anywhere. You'd think oneplus would have it up on their website already.
Anyone?

Take it to T-Mobile to get it fixed. They most likely don't have it up because all devices from T-Mobile are locked by carrier.
Everytime i go to tmobile for any request, it's always like they their first time doing it (whatever it is).
These people need to be trained on stuff other than the check my balance requests.
I figured if i go to them it'll just be a waste of time.

Try contacting their phone support or go to a corporate store instead of an affiliate location.
A corporate store is worth a try i guess.
There are no stock ROMs available yet. Your only options at the moment are to take it back to a T-Mobile store or get it repaired (under warranty) by OnePlus
Did a warranty replacement from T-Mobile.
Hopefully we can get the stock rom with Amazon & BB selling unlocked version.

I've got an unlocked and bootloader-unlocked phone - I bought it from OnePlus directly.
If there's an easy way to get the bootloader from an unlocked phone, I'm definitely willing to try it. Everything seems to require a working custom recovery, though, at the very least.
See the discussion in https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/can-anyone-upload-the-boot-img-if-they-can-find-it.4303179/ - it's a very similar problem, and if we get a boot.img that can be patched for root access, grabbing the stock rom should be fairly easy too.
There's a major problem: OnePlus has abandoned this phone

There's a big difference between abandoning a phone and simply not *yet* providing support.
If this phone was 2 or 3 years old I'd believe you. But that's not the case.
The OnePlus Nord N200 5G was released June 25th, 2021. It's only been a little over a month! And they're actively selling them on their website *and partnering with T-Mobile*.
We'll see if they ever release the ROMs - it's a very cheap phone, so they might not. But I would be very surprised if they abandon the phone within this year, and they *certainly* have not abandoned it yet.
It's not abandoned yet.. it's waaay too early.
I inquired oneplus support regarding the firmware.

Then where's official accessory?
It's been 6 weeks (I bought it at Jun 25)
I bought a case at T-Mobile store and I put on tempered glass for N10

I suspect they don't plan to make any, the phone is too cheap and they are partnering with T-Mobile to sell it.
I think the T-Mobile store accessories are as official as we're going to get.
That doesn't mean they've abandoned it. They are just treating this phone as less important than their premium ones. And given the price, that seems reasonable.

Unfortunately, it's incremental OTA which requires previous version boot.img
