Help with erecovery please and thank you - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

So i was just driving and my new mate 10 ALP-L29 which i bought from Europe as im in US just went into a bootloop about two weeks ago. Can get to erecovery but this is my first Huawei device, well second as i had the mate 9 but for a month and then got this so i didn't even root it. But this one i bootloader unlocked and rooted and thats it. I didn't get a auto factory update that i'm aware of as I'm Almost positive i disabled it. Also cant use Hisuite or whatever its called as i disabled HDB(think its called that but you know what i mean) so i could use fastboot properly on windows 10 due to the driver issues and had to disable to unlock. I borrowed a windows laptop because i run linux and my win 7 vm wasnt recognizing the device and honestly got lazy and didnt feel like fixing and borrowed a friends windows box just to try real quick. Ive been a private phone dev since android came out. Never released anything here because its just a hobby. I know my way through an android device as well as anyone could. So i know what i'm doing and never had a problem except with this (hopeully not perm brick)Huawei right now. I Bricked maybe one phone in the beginning days of android in my learning quest and any other close call to full brick i fixed but its been many years since then and will always be learning but am very efficient repairing and coding android. So in my quest to fix I Changed 3 different routers DNS settings(one at a time as none worked and i wanted to try all of my routers)to recommended ones for getting erecovery to work from online guides but it always connected but failed to get package info multiple times with dozens of tries with router hoping it was an issue. Used 2.5 and 5 ghz and manually picked channels and a few DNS setups i found to try. None worked. Obviously tried wiping data and forced firmware flash by putting udate.app and files from the extracted full ota firmware packages tar.gz files from funky huawei and other sites including Huawei. Tried multiple ones. none worked Paid with every inch of hatred put aside for people that advertise on XDA which is against rules and turn a profit as this is an open source community and i cant believe xda allows it. So that pay service, funkyhuawei, did not work and will not pay 50$ again because its been 2 weeks and no helpful response from said actor. anybody run into this and hopefully its my lack of huawei experience thats the problem. DNS was also changed per FH instructions and ERecov didn't work for the FH repair either as well as his hisuite method also. EMMC is ok. It did not fail from what my tests concluded. Huawei have horrible policyies as it shouldn't matter where in the world your are. People buy a product they shouldn't make you jump through hoops to get help and void warranty if you are in unsupported country. Any help appreciated. Love this phone but ive had over 50 android phones since the start from every other manufacturer. And they really make it difficult to get help. again phone just bootloops and will eventually boot to erecovery and stop. ITs a ALP-L29 again and it just happened while driving as i took out of pocket it was at erecovery and since then will bootloop about 3 times and finally end there at ERecov. thanks

Honestly i cant be a part of that. Im still mad at myself for breaking my own code. cant and wont support pay service. And if your gonna charge. Id rather make a phone call. Im good on email and waitng around for back and forth when a phone call could solve in a minute. gonna charge you should have a support line number. thanks though.. I get you have to charge for overhead, but i find it hard to believe one person or group of is the only people intelligent enough to mod huawei devices. Pretty positive its/your huawei under the FH name just making extra money. thanks though. I assure you i sent multiple messages. thanks anyway.

[Q] Unbrickable Mod bricked

My Fascinate had an unbrickable mod done a few months ago. I tried flashing CM to it, and now it doesn't boot or go into recovery mode. Download mode is ok so far, but only with a jig. Windows and Odin can't see anything. On Linux (Ubuntu physical box not virtual) the 'unbrickable resurrector' (team hummingmod) doesn't find the device. Heimdall only prints a pit file after it first goes into dl mode, then just detects it but fails the loke handshake everytime until it goes into dl mode again. USB drivers were installed (libusb). Almost everything online says that the phone should be recoverable (like from a soft-brick) but the phone's not even getting detected. The place I mailed it to seemed to know what they're doing, but I'm wondering now if the mod was not done perfectly and if that could be causing this weird issue now. This is my main phone, and none of us are getting any younger so let's get some ideas on this asap.
Mainly, I'm wondering how to turn this from a paperweight back into a phone?
I would contact the people that did it and see what they say.

I sent the repair place several messages, and they didn't respond. It's Mobile Tech Videos. When I first got the mod done a few months ago, they seemed ok. Now it's like they just don't even want to hear about the possibility of there being an issue with their work. I have friends that fix these locally, and they've also tried getting it to work using different boxes and setups so it doesn't seem like the problem is on my end (not saying it's definitely not, just doesn't seem so). I sent them messages asking whether they've had any similar issues, and if it's possible to rule out the original mod as the issue. Nothing, not a courtesy response. Nothing, like they just decided to ignore the whole issue. I actually left them some good feedback for them (originally), now I'm wondering if someone else will read that and think that this place is a reliable repair shop -- I'd feel guilty for steering them to the wrong place based on feedback that's no longer current. I could understand if they had assisted a customer in using the mod (that I paid them to do) and then that customer just didn't want to do anything, just complain, then yes I could understand that they'd not want to deal with that. But I actually just started by sending a message that there was an issue, and if they've got a workaround. Since I paid them to do this, I thought they'd at least respond. Nothing. So that could make a person wonder if they know that there's an issue with their work and just don't want to say. Personally, I'd say a business owner with integrity should either stand behind their work or issue a refund in good faith. That's the problem is that there's not enough accountability in these issues.
The phone seems pretty well bricked right now, and since A) it's one of the older original androids and B) this no one's responded here with any ideas and C) I don't know any one locally who I can trust to jtag it -- it seems more and more likely that this is a real brick.

I've recently made a huge mistake, I was %&$#ing around with roms for the HDX and with Hashcode's Safestrap and had my phone fully rooted with the ADB drivers installed on my pc. I was using the default rom slot to operate(Yes it's stupid, but I have problems working with under 8gb of space and it was working fine.). Through an accidental factory reset I managed to delete my safestrap backup and screw up the current Rom. So I went into safestrap and tried to flash a new rom which suddenly wouldn't flash correctly. So I did advanced wipe and cleared everything and rebooted the device whilst still set to bootup from the default rom slot. My Proceeded to then bootloop the grey kindle logo. In a panic trying to fix it, I did the factory reset by holding the volume and power buttons (Another stupid move in my game of life.). Now when I plug it into a PC it reads the device as MTP USB Device and proceeds to fail installing Drivers that I've already installed. Adb wont recognize the device and I'm currently attempting to reinstall all my drivers.
To Sum It Up:
* My Device Can't Boot Into Safestrap
* My Device Can't Boot Past The Kindle Gray Logo
* My Computers wont recognize the kindle and calls it an MTP USB Device and fails driver installation.
*ADB also rejects my love.

From what I understand...
...this is a brick situation. Not to be a debby downer but I found myself in the same situation. I spent countless hours in the XDA forums and beyond, read every Android Cowboy post (who knows his way around this issue), tried a fastboot cable (didn't work), and even looked for a way to JTAG the internal memory - all to no avail. My advice - if you can't get ADB to wreckonize, accept your fate and flaunt your expensive taste in paperweights because, indeed, the stakes of being a tinkerer are high.

Google "Setting Up Your Kindle Fire Tablet for Testing" there is an article that might help to get ADB up.
This may be helpful to try to get ADB working. Also, a fastboot cable might be worth a try, though I don't think it will work if you don't get ADB working. Did you modify build.prop? Delete any system files?
I am sure that there is a way to restore through QPST:

Same happened to me also , and i contacted with Amazon Customer Service. I explained whole situation ( that i tried the install gapps and bricked it like you - same way - ) they offered me a replacement. Then they sent me a new Kindle.
If you cant do anything just contact with them and explain everything. They will help im sure about that.
They are the most amazing Customer Service i've ever seen in my life. Just 2 days , i got my new Kindle and sent bricked one back.
Also they sent me a email for return shipping expenses. I used it at UPS and did not paid any money for return shipping.
Aren't they amazing?

So even after ""breaking the system"" I'll get my money back. I dont have a warranty by the way, and I got it in December. Will that effect anything.

I have to admit I went through something very similar to you with my first HDX. I wiped the system without fully understanding it and afterwards it was bricked with my computer being unable to recognize it.
I also spent quite a bit of time looking for a solution but ultimately it was far easier talking to Amazon about this and having them send a replacement. Now with my second HDX I didn't make the same mistake twice.
I didn't tell the truth though. I just said that after I powered it on one day it would get stuck on the boot screen and after a troubleshoot run through Amazon offered a replacement.

Well I did the advanced system wipe, I think I may have just wiped off all traces of a rom by formatting the system, I havent touched the build.prop or any file like that, only format. Also I'll grab a fastboot cable off ebay and give tinkering a try,

Well, best to have a working kindle and bad karma than an expensive paperweight, i'll give a fastboot cable a try first and use this as a last attempt. Thanks, also, when did you get the replacement and did you have a warranty?

Rubbish. A bad kindle is a temporary thing. Bad karma lasts a lifetime & even if you can work it off, it's on a sliding scale approximately 1000:1.
The worst thing you can do is panic. 99.999% of devices can be recovered. However, you greatly increase your chances of being in that screwed .001% statistically by panicking & doing things like factory resetting or rebooting.
Personally, after sitting down to think about it, I can say I have actually borked my device 23 times. Nearly every three times, it was a different issue, since I was recreating issues to find solutions for others. To this day, I still have my FIRST HDX. I even got the update, the one that nobody can reverse. Guess what? I'm rooted, have SafeStrap & GAPPS still, because I didn't panic.
When you screw something up, you have to walk away. 3 out of 4 times, if you react to an issue without planning & reasoning, you will only make things worse, particularly if you really have no idea what you are doing & how Linux, Android Bootloaders & firmware in general work together. You don't need to know every detail, but a basic understanding at the very least. Listen, I am by no means a developer. I am a butcher hack of a coder, but I am a mechanical engineer & so I approach everything methodically, especially when dealing with something I do not know. Knowing your limits can be the most important thing to know at times & when you have stepped outside of your knowledge base, reacting with a guess rarely goes good. Just ask all the folks leaving Las Vegas casinos without their money. The bottom line is that bad things happen when you panic & let fear take hold. Bad things happen when you think you know more than you do.
What also helps me, is that this is my NEWEST username (you used to be able to have multiple, for different devices, etc), which is from 2006. I am pretty sure my first login was from 2002, maybe early 2003. When I joined I didn't do anything other than lurk, read, ask questions & follow things that interested me in IRC for a year & a half. I never even posted for the first 9 months I was around. I used PM & IRC, then it was only to ask questions to things I could find answers too reading through the earlier posts. Again, there are brand new members that understand & have abilities in technology that far outstrip anything I'll ever comprehend. Just like there were over a decade ago. Find those people & become friends. Follow one of the tutorials on building a basic app or building a rom like CM or AOSP or any of the other open roms from scratch. You'll learn something new, I garuntee it & it will come in handy some day, even if it's just a hobby. Of course things are different at XDA these days. It used to be that EVERY member was here to learn how to do these things for themselves & to share the experience & what was learned. Now, you still have some of those types, but predominantly, you have members that are here just because they want someone else to make a theme, or mod, or fix for them & they have no desire to contribute.
At any rate, I don't have the time to keep up with all the bootloops & bricks these days. Right now, work is crazy busy & that is what pays the bills, so it takes precedence over everything else. I'll start answering PM's & taking a look at borked devices again when things slow down again, however, I think I could probably recover 8 out of 10 if I had it in my hands & so could you. For those of you unwilling to give up, I suggest you read around other forums, check out some of the qualcomm developer forums & find some of the very talented developers that participate in those communities too. Most of them WILL take the time, not necessarily to fix your problem, but to answer questions & even to teach you a thing or two, if you are sincere about wanting to learn & not just looking for the first sucker to fix whatever problem you have.

Thanks for the pep-talk, I haven't even thought about giving up, and I don't really want to just get out the easy lying way. But sadly my problem is one of few and will take time even with the help of power techies. I really only have one option at the moment and that is to continue troubleshooting and ignore everyone who just says that i have acquired a taste in paperweights. And Thanks anyway, means alot when a member takes time just to cheer ya on.

Replacement was expediated by Amazon so in two days.
You have a limited warranty for a year. You just have to convince Amazon that your problem falls under that.
Edit: It's admirable to try and fix it yourself but in my opinion it's far too time consuming.

Well I have about a year then.

Advice for proving RAZR Maxx is broken?

I've got insurance for my cell phone through my credit card. If it breaks, they'll send me $250 to buy a new one. And my RAZR Maxx is definitely messed up.
The problem is, the problems are intermittent. And for me to make a successful claim, I have to get a technician to look at the phone and write a letter saying it's broken. I had to go through this process a couple of years ago with a Motorola Atrix that was clearly, obviously broken. And the technicians are always like, "what? what do you mean? what good is a letter like that going to do?" No matter how many times I try to explain to them. It's like they think I'm trying to trap them.
Anyway, is there anything short of throwing the phone off the top of my house that I can do to my phone that makes it easy to show to a technician and have him verify there are issues with it? I'd like not to destroy the phone in case my claim is denied. There are other criteria other than just proving phone is broken. And if the claim is denied, I may need to use the phone for a few more months till I can afford to buy a new one.
The phone is rooted. So I can install whatever software that needs the phone to be rooted. And I have asked in the past, rooting the phone does not cancel my insurance. The case is basically the cell phone insurance department doesn't seem very technologically savvy and don't have a lot of clauses you see when cell phone company's are describing cell phone warranties. Then they have other clauses that you would never see in a cell phone warranty.
If you want to know what's wrong with my phone, like occasionally, nothing it can do will it lock onto the GPS satellites, and I'm stuck somewhere trying to navigate my way to some place.. Occasionally it'll pop up on my screen saying "HDMI cable detected" and orient my screen sideways like if the phone were in a dock. It does this even though there's clearly no HDMI cable connected and I have turned HDMI detection off in the settings. Plus, the phone is just god awful slow a lot of times. Trying to use Chrome on the phone, a lot of times it'll hang and eventually I'll get the message "Chrome is not reponding", then I have options like do you want to wait for it, or go ahead and kill it.

Have you tried returning the phone to bone stock with a stock recovery image and rsd lite? Be fore warned, you will lose root but, you can get it back. Afterwards it will be like a new phone(faster, a lot less buggy and force closes) unless it is truly a hardware issue. I have a motorola xoom that started having serious issues, I went through the whole process, and it was like a completely new tablet when was done, battery life I hadn't seen in over a year, very responsive, it was like I had just unboxed it from the store.
Truthfully the technicians probably DO think you are trying to trap them when you are talking about intermittent problems. Intermittent problems are hard to diagnose with anything unless you can tell them a specific action or pattern of actions that leads up to the problem. I am sure they get a lot of people all the time with "it doesn't work right" claims to try to get money for a new phone.
IMHO it would be worth the shot to see if it legitimately has a goofy problem, or can be easily fixed at home.

Yeah, thanks Draxin. I've tried restoring to a factory image. And it seems to work okay for a couple of days before small things start back up. A couple of months later, the phone is as flaky as it ever was. It could just be software, that is possible. But it's not like I can go in and fix the software myself or anything. And I think hanging around the internet, looking for tweaks and fixes any more than I already have is really an unreasonable request by the insurance company.
What you say about an easily repeatable pattern, that's what I was hoping to figure out by posting here.
But getting no responses, I think I'm just gonna start my claim and when it gets to the point of proving it's broken, I'm just gonna microwave the phone. Googling all over the Internet that's the only advice people seem to offer.
Basically as it is now, I'm gonna have to pay for a new phone and hope this clumsy phone insurance through my credit card company makes good on my claim. I know I meet the criteria because I've read the policy. It's just the hoops they put you through to prove you meet the criteria that I'm worried about.

With a full wipe and stock motorola firmware? Or just a factory reset?

Yeah try using rsd to fully restore. I fixed a lot of my problems that way .

Very true. It is funny/sad. Spend some time on a site like this and it seems like everybody knows these things. Talk to your friend or the typical consumer of smartphones and it is foreign to them. They feed into the advertising that the newest and greatest will solve all their problems, not realizing they are falling into the same viscous circle. They will actually disbelieve you, cause... well come on, the phone is two years old! "The guy at my carriers store is surprised my phone still works. Sure he got the job two months ago, won't be there five from now and has no idea what a OTG cable is, or a independently powered usb hub but, still he works there.. so he must know what he is talking about! I am sure it has nothing to do with commission of sales!" (that was facetious, by the way)

Really how many people outside of the power users or gamers REQUIRE a quad core processor with 1500-1800 mhz, or 2-3 gb of RAM. When typically, it will end up the same way in a years time, depending on how much they use it.

HUAWEI Y538: how to upgrade Lollipop to something usable?

I lucked into a sale on a HUAWEI Y538 smartphone at Best Buy the other day, knowing we have no Boost Network around here for the cellphone service. Perfect!
I just wanted it as a nice little media player and access to my LAN, like my KitKat tablet. Nothing terribly fancy. I rooted it with Kingo, hoping to remove that nag cellphone activation every startup. I have to press Accept, then Self Service comes in and I click the no button. In addition as many of you know, Lollipop has a lot of unwanted background apps running . I spent a whole day trying to tame this and the only good news is that I worked out the factory reset.
My real question is if it's possible to remove that startup nag entirely, but either way, to ask if it's possible to downgrade to KitKat or something else? As a WiFi-only media player Lollipop would seem to be quite awful.
I've been on computers for decades but no experience with Android except my happy KitKat tablet. If some kind soul could be persuaded to help me out, well that'd be really cool.

Well I can't thank you enough for trying, but it seems Huawei changed their procedure. I got the 4 informations required and registered with Huawei. Going to the unlock page changes to Chinese and says too much traffic for servers in English. So I emailed Huawei Mobile support and got the following reply:

If I 'm reading that right they want me to log in every day for 14 days, which is kind of nuts.
To be fair the phone may possibly be rooted using Kingo (fast boot showed an "unlocked" message which I don't know if that means rooted but probably not boot unlocked), and for all I know that changes some of the information.
So I'm just replying FYI so you know how it went. Maybe I should do factory reset and try again?

Happy here to report a partial solution, 1/2 way there!
If you take out the SIM card inside the phone it only nags once and saves probably 30 seconds of boot-up time. It's a great improvement!

I bought the same phone at BB ($10 on sale) to use like you do (unactivated). What you're trying to do is actually super simple. Merely put the device in Airplane mode, then turn back on the wifi (and GPS if you like). You will not be prompted to activate your device. You actually should be doing this anyway as it saves your battery by not having the cell radio constantly trying to talk to the tower.
In case you missed it, there is a firmware update to the phone that can be downloaded via the Emui app on the phone. I'm not sure what all the update affects, but it doesn't impact your ability to use the procedure I described to avoid the constant activation reminder.

COOL! Perfect it boots and no need to click anything further - and besides it's less stray microwaves. Also to report Huawei replied and said they accept bootloader code requests at: consumer (at) huawei.com. They say to include IMEI and serial numbers in the email. Both can be found in Settings >> about phone or underneath the back cover.
Where to go from here, I'd also like to disable sneaky RAM-stealing apps like Sprint cellphone and some apps I'll never use, such as most Google Play. Add decent firewall and decent media player, and have a good time!
Recommend root method I'm good to go.

I've read elsewhere (here on XDA) that folks have gotten root using Kingo root (mostly tethered to a Windows PC and not the app version). Note that this root method often requires you to run the rooting program multiple times before it is successful. I'm not a fan of Kingo after being forced to use it to re-root another device (it took well over a dozen times before root took). Also, Kingo doesn't use SuperSu, it installs a Kingo version of SuperSu which CAN be removed (not exactly easily) but users of the Huawei Y538 Union have gotten bootloops trying to remove Kingo's proprietary SuperSu, so not advisable at this time. Even after rooted you are not able to remove the pre-installed bloatware because of the locked bootloader (which is different than the carrier unlock). To be honest, I've pretty much decided to just not root this device and just install an SD card if I need the space...I'd rather do that than risk bricking the device when (for me) there's really no need. I'm going to wait it out and see if anybody can figure a reliable way to deal with the device without bricking before I do anything else.
If you do root using Kingo, you might be able to "freeze" the background apps you don't want using Titanium Backup. I've read that folks haven't had any luck using TB to uninstall the bloatware, but if you're just trying to free ram it *might* work. I believe the risk would be the device expecting certain apps to run, and if unable it might bootloop/brick. Without a custom recovery allowing a nand backup bricking seems like a real possibility.
Please post your results if you unlock your bootloader. It surprises me that they're offering this, as I thought they only supported carrier unlocking. If you're able to figure out how to trim down the bloat please share.
I'm currently using Google's Play Music app for music/podcasts since I've already got 20,000 song's uploaded and since I can't delete that app anyway. Otherwise I'd just use Doubletwist for offline listening.
In case you, or anyone else with this phone is interested, I ended up purchasing a cheap ($5 delivered) case for this thing. Overall I like the case, but if you have any questions about that, let me know.
Yeah that case is perfect. I might have found the same on eBay searching " Huawei Union Y538 Case Innovaa".
As for Kingo ROOT, I have one hit and one miss to report. The KitKAt tablet it worked and I un-rooted after I got my business done. But the Lollipop phone is another story. I run a really tight ship on the Windows end, and Kingo rooted Lollipop, I got some functions involving root accomplished, but it ended at some point (completely offline except for USB tether to PC).
I factory reset the phone and tried again. Kingo downloaded more stuff and my firewall asked for access to PCAccelerator and acdsee.. The former is considered a virus and the second an image viewing app, which I don't use (maybe it's payloaded who knows).
I don't wish to scare anyone nor besmirch Kingo ROOT's reputation if it's a wholesome rooting app, but advise great caution and use a firewall that notifies things like this (I use NetLimiter on PC).
So I await the boot-unlock code and hope I live to tell about it Thanks a million zerozed99! That case is icing on the cake.
For what it's worth, no reply from Hauwei, and yesterday I sent another SOS asking, if not for boot unlock code, even just a stock KitKat ROM for the Y538. We know that model ran KitKat as well as Lollipop.
It just kills me to see this cute little quadcore wasted with all the bloatware taking up valuable RAM and battery power as well.

I started coding on Macs in 1981(1981!). I later went on to 5 years formal education in Computer Science at a decent University, and spent the better part of 2 decades volunteering for low and no income people- those were the best years of my life!
Now I'm on the old side, with some heart disease that has four stents in my heart and the no-fun life expectancy that goes with it.
Now, being a reasonably informed geek, I'm seeing some disturbing things I want to air out in "public" if you'll so allow me.
The idea Hauwei will send you a boot unlock code, I don't think it's true. They make it easy to fill out a form with at least four identifying informations, but I have YET to see anyone receive their code! In my case the form advances to a page written in Chinese! I believe this is a spy device and priced to spy on a certain demographic. The almost perfect unlockability and easy bootlock application with no one reporting being sent a code.... there's a reason.
Granted one thing: I've never owned a cellphone nor did I even want cell access from this. Maybe you've noticed the same thing(s) years ago. I just wanted a little quadcore computer to play around with, to access my LAN and play media, and this has me worried the kind of entities that design such forced options.
Oh well, no luck. anyone else going to wait a bit or should I trash this?
Can't tell you how much I'd like Marshmallow and the evil bootloader out of there for something else.
Lollipop is not so bad IMHO except for the lack of privs to access our own SD cards.
If you hold down the volume-down button and press the power button until the phone starts up you can boot into fastboot mode. I've read here in XDA someplace that there are 2 available builds of TWRP custom recovery for the y6, both work on our phone, tho only one of the builds works fully. I have not tried to install either on my y538 yet, but I will, and I'll let you know what I find out.
If you can get the bootloader unlocked, you should be able to flash SuperSU from TWRP.
I suggest you google the xda guide to fastboot. It is not very complicated.
I doubt we can locate any custom ROM for this device. However, if we can get rooted we can backup stock and then remove all the bloatware. ES File Explorer is great in root mode for managing the SD card.
More useful info: I pulled my SIM out before I fired up the phone for the first time, and when I turned on the phone it didn't download any of the extra crapware from Sprint! I have the Virgin version, and I expected all that stuff to download, but it did not. Also, if you look in the App Manager settings, you will see a few apps which shipped on your phone in the Disabled state!! You may wish to enable Lookout or others of the stock disabled apps. Also, without root, you can remove the Sprint ID app here, and disable any of the Google spots you don't want, like Play News or Play Movies.
This is my first Huawei device, though it's my twenty-somethingh Android, and so far I am very pleased with the layout of the settings and of the notifications tray. This is way liveable, and they allow us to disable most of the bloat.

What are Chimera Modules in Google Services??

Hey guys, i got a scareware pop up last night and rebooted my phone.
Then it popped p again so I googled I should disable my ad preferences. but While I was looking through my google stuff I found a ton of these "modules"
I don't remember them being there before. Between the Chimera Virus and the Chimera tool floating around out there, and not being able to find good information on it..., , it makes me pretty paranoid.
I noticed in settings that I have these Chimera Modules in the bottom part of my google services info.
Does anyone know what those are and why they are there?

To somewhat answer your question, if I were to take a guess, something you installed, probably in the hopes of gaining root or unlocking your device, was either malware or a scam. There is a site for this tool which looks really shady. I've never heard of it, so I could be completely wrong. If I were you, I would uninstall your most recently installed apps and see if it goes away. Otherwise, I would do a factory reset to protect myself.
Would second the factory reset - if you're rooted I'd also take a scorched earth approach and wipe as much as I can within recovery just to make sure.
I found similar modules on my phone in Google Setting "[internal] section. But from what I can see inside it lists only packages from Google Services and after a bit of searching Google Services contains package with "chimera" in its name namely: "com.google.android.chimera.container.*". Therefore I think it don't have to be connected with any adware/spyware etc. you might have accidentally installed on your phone. Maybe it showed up lately on many phones with some update or it was there already for sometime? Waiting to hear about it from other users.

Hi comprohacked .. Its nice to know in not the only one .. I am a network engineer with a bachelors in computer science, so I'm much more familiar with the things I have seen. Fighting it has only proven to render my devices unusable, but it has been extremely educational for me. I can tell you some of the things vie learned so far: first of all they use UPnP and a vulnerability in Adobe to gain access. They even moved my Adobe from the programs list to my windows update list. They are very stealthy as my system event codes show them errorig out hundreds of times until they get a success, then continue, what they were doing was elevating their access beginning with default then user, up to admin, and continue until the have system access .. Basically as far as programs or anything else, its windows itself making requests. Then they use what's called a root kit, they actually flash your bios and create a second bios that can not see or access. They map your I/Os and reserve memory space on your periphials ad flash the ROMs of your video, audio, network card, USB ports and really everything else .. And while they take complete root control and ownership of all the hardware, they use network discovery to find every device, cell phones, playstations, Xbox,notebooks, routers, modems, anything connected and do the same thing to all of these, then set up a raid, meaning fault tolerance, or lets just call it a backup of each system on other systems on the network, that way even if you get passed the b
Mbr rootkit somehow, and somehow able to regain control of your PC or phone and reset it, they just put it back as soon as it boots up again. They basically sandbox you as a child environment, while they have a parent profile that overlays whatever they want you to see. They Grey out buttons for setting that can potential trip them up, proxy your web traffic .. They configure servers for your dns and the list goes on. You see on captures that your dns traffic is going out to your loopback address of 127. It started about 2 months ago. First i use comcast internet. Comcast was out front on the pole doing something idk cause i dont have neighbors an my internet was fine. Then a week later a public utilities truck was across the street on a pole that didnt have a transformer on it. They installed a box at the top. Proware technologies. I walked over to them and they hurriedly got down and left. I thought strange. So i went to my desktop and looked at my network and even wierder is i had a some pc connected by ethernet to my comcast modem that was sitting in front of me. I only have 1 computer hooked up by ethernet that i know of and can see only one cable to my pc. So i hurriedly copied all the info from mac address etc of the mysterious connected pc. After about an hour they had chsnged my name of hetwork and had hidden there pc. Theres a lot more that i wont blab on about but i think its the FBI. The box came down last weekend in the middle of the night- but i still cant get any internet company they all tell me they dont service my area when ive had them in the past. Im connected to sum modem i have no idea where cause its not the one i should be connected to. Its crazy. I feel crazy. Drives me crazy! Friends cell phones get all screwed up wen they come over. Its aweful. What can i do?
My wife and I have also had this same NOBUS level hack done to us and after 9 months I realized a few tricks that have shut them down several times but they always seem to figure some new hack to thwart my efforts until I finally took a screwdriver and shorted out my MOBO out of shear frustration. That seemed to work! Lol well now I do everything on my cell that I had to root to eliminate their emulated files and restore a custom ROM. As for the PC that is a harder nut to crack...
Thank God, I thought I was losing my mind,3 laptops, 2 cable companys and 3 different phones, and now these modules, my daughter thinks I'm nuts but I know what I see and I know what I have done, factory resets don't work, I keep changing my password info my wifi info even my numbers, if I'm not using my phone or wifi I keep it disconnected this is crazy, what's the purpose.
OK I've done some extensive research on this google play services chimera. It's not a bug or virus or . It's google play services latest secret weapon to control our devices. It's a container full of different modules. I've blocked some through amplify. They start as an alarm. Then turn to wakelocks. One is a system update server that runs continually while our phones try and sleep. Killing our batteries. I'm running Oreo Android 8.0 and have just recently started seeing this said activity. It's no wonder normal people that don't root their devices have no idea what these are. Being slipped in on updates. They know what we know and it's their efforts to go around that and try different things to regain control of anything computerized. Take for instance. Was talking in conversation the other day. Mentioned New Nike shoes. Low and behold next day it's in my damn Facebook feed. Uninstalled fb, that's just way to much for me. Hope this might help. But definitely not a virus
Oh my god i am so glad i found this i am crying. I literally thought i might be insane. Been dealing with this for over 2 years but has lately gotten worse by a mile. For now I'm just relieved I have company. I do not believe it is Google. There is a "real" Google out there and everytime I interacted with them they were helpful. Currently though I'm connecting to some imposter "Google" in India. I also have comcast but the router in my basement is NOT the one I am connecting to. Everyone thinks i am a lunatic when i tell them any of this. I kept seeing the term Firefly come up and it feels important

Comprohacked and ppl below. Exact same thing has been happening to me for months. No one will help not even family. No one speaks to me. I knew nothing at all at first. Ive been scammed etc. Phone after phone. About 30 this yr. I dont know if this will work because everytime i type something om a forum it never sends or theres always an issue with it redirecting etc. I dont even log onto google anymore om a new phone but theres still a hidden account connected and **** downloading itself. Photos get deleted. I have a daughter now and ive lost everything. Im embarrassed for her to see how lonely i am when she grows up. Its all government related. I do know that and how corrupt this world is. How google are allowed to do whateber they want. Im on medication now. I dunno if anyone has had any luck on how to claim there lives back but im just about done for good. Just thanks to everyone coz i know im not alone.
What the hell is going on in here? I feel like I'm scrolling through a conspiracy post on reddit or something. I need more info!

My wife and I have also had this same NOBUS level hack done to us and after 9 months I realized a few tricks that have shut them down several times but they always seem to figure some new hack to thwart my efforts until I finally took a screwdriver and shorted out my MOBO out of shear frustration. That seemed to work! Lol well now I do everything on my cell that I had to root to eliminate their emulated files and restore a custom ROM. As for the PC that is a harder nut to crack...

It's funny you say that. Not considering the other ways described previously in this post, I just knew my modem was the source of my issues, thinking I had eliminated all other possibilities. Ironically a screwdriver through the Ethernet device (not sure of exact terminology here) took a screwdriver through the center of it. Worked well for turning it into trash lol.
