I have begun using Tidal with their Hi Fi plan. I don't think I have heard a better combination on a phone without adding any extra gear. I'm using Sony XBA-H1 IEM'S. I have Bowers and Wilkins P7's, too.
I do not see the option on the Tidal app for "Master" under settings, only Hi Fi. It's my understanding that Tidal offers MQA content so long as the master option in the settings is selected, but I don't see it on the android app. Any ideas?
MQA is only avaliable on desktop Application for now, its not on mobile yet.

I hope Tidal stays in business. They need to add more KPop! Google Play Music is pretty on top of that at least.
I was considering Tidal also, but hoping Spotify does its Hi-Fi soon!
Spotify was announced Q1 last year. And then there was silence.. I don't see that happening any time soon..

Just got an update from the Tidal android app with description saying added support for MQA on selected device LG V30!! But the "master" quality in streaming options is still grayed out so dunno how this new update is... Any ideas? I have a V30 and wrote to Tidal but maybe you guys are ahead of things
Nevermind guys, just logged out of app and re-log and its now working! Enjoying the new Tidal app update with support for MQA on the LG V30. Master quality finally on mobile! Too bad those courageous corp dropped the headphone jack! Viva LG

Proof that it works, i can't modify the DACs presets and filters.. It says "can't modify DSD or MQA files" ))
Is this app countrt specific. I can't find it on playstore in India.
It probably is. country specific. The NL Play Store app version still at 2.3.2 and no reference to MQA and LG V30, not in the Play Store and not in the app. So I guess a bit of patience still is required.
I have to say, I tried Tidal and tried it alongside some of my 192kps mp4's and realised that there really was little to no difference. I began to understand that the new sounds I was hearing in my music was down to the combination of the headphones I was using and the fantastic sound produced by the LG V30's DAC. In addition I now know what files in my music collection are low quality and am starting to remove them and replace them.
IMO most of the magic comes from the phone not Tidal's HI-FI files, and I do believe what most critiques say these days that a trained ear really can hear sounds some people don't.
2.3.4. just got released in the Netherlands. But I don't know what they did with it .. The noise levels are sky high. USB Audio Player PRO in MQA mode is way way way better ...
*update* ... It seems to have been pulled from the Play Store again. Not surprising if the noise levels are anything to go by ...
*update* 2.3.5. available for download
Tidal app. I have to say though that tve never been able to distinguish between same albums at 16/44 and 24/96 or 172, even with my JRiver / Hegel / ATC monitors set up. However, the difference between tidal lossless and Spotify extreme is pretty obvious. I'm using a pair of LZ-A4 phones with the LG and its damn impressive. Better than my DT880s.

Yes you can. Once you have the LG V30, you can use Tidal for Android. It recognizes the LG V30 and automatically enables MQA for you. You can also use USB Audio Player Pro that allows you to use your Tidal account to stream MQA. In fact, UAAP sounds better than the actual Tidal Android app.
How do you stream tidal? I dont have usb player pro but i have tidal. Right now i am just plugging in through my grom audio wirelinq to stream unto my kenwood deck and i launch tidal.
Noticed tidal app update 2.7.5 and now master playback isn't working anymore (stucks on 00:00 and phone freezes). Changing quality to hi-fi is the only solution right now. Can someone confirm on lg v30? Not sure if it's a general v30 issue or related to boombox rom or magisk/safetynet or Viper4AndroidFX. I am also interested if someone has an older app version number that is still working. Thanks.
Update: the hint from Wiz in earlier post that USB Audio Player Pro is also supporting tidal masters made my day It's far better compared to the tidal app and still plays in 24bit/48khz.

I've been searching around for awhile for a screen recorder and haven't found any great ones. The best I tried was Screencast, but I couldn't figure out how to get it to record sound as well.
I'm trying to record myself playing a game I developed, so it needs to have very high framerate (Screencast does this well) and also record the game sound.
Using the simulator isn't an option due to the way the game is controlled.
Can anyone recommend something for this?

It only records sound by using your microphone so not ideal for in game sound though great for tutorials etcetera.
Go to its settings screen and its about half way down the page, a check box saying record audio. When ticked it records via the microphone.

There is nothing that does it. Looked into it myself though the developer of screencast is trying to do so as far as I know.
For now only workaround would be record video, send audio via headphone socket to an external recording device (pc line in maybe) then use virtualdubmod on pc to dub the audio over the video.

You would connect your phones headphone socket to your pc's line input with a cable (usually both will be 3.5 mm jack plug connections) and use a recording app like audacity on your pc.
Press record then all the audio will be recorded by the pc. When finished you can trim the audio to make it start at the same place your video does and use virtualdubmod or a similar pc program to dub the audio over the video.

Did anything come of this? I'm trying to do a commentary + in app sound mix, and you think that the mic would be fine for that. But no, it's all tingy and i'm really after an in app sound recorder.
Although this PC line in seems like a valid idea, I could use record mic sounds on screencast for the voiceover and the pc line in for the app audio[assuming they work in tandem]

It might be easier to record your video seperately then dub your audio on after using a pc.
Virtualdubmod can add audio to video, and audacity can be used to record or edit audio and so you could mix your audio with that then dub onto video with virtualdubmod. Both programs are free.
There's a free audio app on market called virtual recorder (its icon is a cassette tape) which records high quality audio on an android device. You could try that for your audio recording.

I doubt any app can record smooth while playing a cpu intensive game like that. In such a situation only smooth way to record would be hook phones video output to a dvd recorder and do it that way.

ZTE advertised A7 with High Quality sound capability on the first place targeting audiophile buyers. The question is that users are satisfied with support what ZTE provide in this subject? Is it OK that Music Player cannot handle metadata in appropriate way, cannot list songs in right order, doesn't show any technical info about material, is laggy and slow after being 8 months on the market? Can't you expect more from an audiophile(?) phone?
Have ZTE done anything to share DAC info with developers in order to make HQ Audio feature available in other Players at least.
To tell true I am very disappointed. And you?

I'm using Play Music app and the DAC is activated as far as i can tell. You don't have to use their Music player.
One issue that bugs me is the inability to change the EQ settings in Dolby atmos, they always revert back to normal and the sliders don't stay where you want them to. Talked to ZTE they said its a software issue and maybe the new update will fix it.

Through OpenSL ES. Unfortunately it converts everything to 48/16 first. Yes, then sound goes to DACs. I don't find direct DAC option in settings or a word about it in guide. If it exists please let me know.
Update: may be check wrong player.
I have found two players with name "Play Music Player". May be there more. What do I choose?
USB Audio Player Pro. Play through Android mode, variable bitrate (gets around the android fixed sampling). Worth the money and uses the built in DAC.

Luckily it has free trial version.

It also recognized DSD/DSF file. Of course Player can play DSF in PCM mode but it can payed it in DoP and native mode as well. Hurray, it is believable because AKM chips support DSD.
At this point I though to install Player onto Samsung Note 3 with Snapdragon 800. As I know SD800 doesn't support DSD. The result is same. It sounds in all three modes. After this I don't know what to think. I would think that Player overrides my choice and chooses the first capable mode. I would but why doesn't the fourth auto mode exist? Hmmm.
Update: Looks that DSD setting is only for USB DAC. Too bad. Anyway, the program is not bad at all. Thanks.
I did test and compare stock and USB player. Although UAPP writes that Android gets high sample rate stream, the stock player sounds clearly better. It is no doubt.
Have you tried using PowerAmp? It has built in DAC control and this overrides the Dolby Settings (Dolby app becomes unusable when this is selected in PowerAmp). Sound is great and it has a great way to control the EQ. I've using PowerAmp since my first Android phones and now with this is just awesome!

As I see there is no other option. The only problem is that PA is not free and alpha version doesn't have free trial. Correct me if I am wrong. OK finally I could manage it. I cannot say anything about quality yet but I would have question. It seems to me that fix sample rate must be preset otherwise app does up or downsample. Isn't there option to send stream to DAC as it is? It is more annoying for me because I listen 88.2/24 materials recently.

I am using PA (bought it) also and afaik the auto samplerate feature is not built in. This might come in a future release but despite the releasedate of the last beta, I have doubts that this will come anytime soon.
I still bought PA in the hope that the dev is still actively developing, maybe a little naive.
Hi all.
I upgraded from a V10 to a V20. I love the phone, but I can't get it to work with hi res audio.
Obviously, I don't have any stock player installed. What I did was download a 24/96 pink noise file, and analyzed it using TrueRTA.
My Fiio X5 iii, with that file, goes up to 48 KHz with ease.
I've tried the LG V20 with Neutron, Poweramp, Google Play Music, Black, Pulsar, Phonograph, and USB Audio Player Pro. Not one of them can go beyond 24 KHz.
I've tried every setting in every app, no luck.
I've tried installing the LG Stock music player editing the APK and compiling, and I always get a message stating "the apk is corrupt".
Any help will be appreciated!
interested as well as i just got a V20 ATT unlocked.

Yes, I have. I got an "APK is corrupt" message.
Google Play Music should go above 48KHz, as Black and Pulsar. They don't. I'm measuring them. I have no clue as to why.
For whatever reason - I finally managed to install the LG Music app.
And I just noticed one thing. Every player can go up to 18 KHz and nothing more. It's not even 24 KHz. It's closer to 18.
Everything works the same.
I'm now wondering whether my cell phone is damaged.....
I just did the same test with my Samsung S8+, and Google Play Music and Samsung Music go to 48Khz without any issues.
where'd u get the music apk and how did u install it? feel free to message me. thanks!
Just do a Google search for LG Music app LG V20. Download any link! They all work.
got it to work. thanks to all !!
I never got the LG V20 to work. Damn. Such an amazing phone. I gave it to my wife, who couldn't care less about audio, and she loves it.
Try PlayerPro. I think its like 5 bucks on the play store but it definitely does what your looking for and goes beyond 48kHz sampling frequency. However that feature only works without the DSP pack installed.
I have Poweramp and it does great with 96-24. Am I missing something?
Hi i'm here to ask why we still can not record internal audio for android 7+ versions? Is it hard to hack it? Android 6 CAN RECORD why from nougat to latest 8.1 we can NOT record internal audio? Is it still possible? Thank you!
I hope one day devs will look into it! It really helps while recording gameplays and streaming using just a phone!
Edit:
I have found the app that can record internal/system audio here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.nick.app.screencast
BUT. . . it need ROOT access and Xposed framework and can only record for 30mins also you wont be able to hear sounds while recording and it has crackling sound for oreo! After installing the app goto xposed installer and enable the module then reboot check record audio and in audio source choose r_submix.
Video example
https://youtu.be/YX7GHkAc1ko
I hope someone fix this issues like be able to listen while recording and extend the recording time. Here's his github
https://github.com/Tornaco/ScreenCast
https://github.com/Tornaco/ScreenCast/releases
I don't know if it's open or closed source. Thanks!
Edit:
Finally Xiaomi added System audio/internal audio recoeding in their built in screen recorder app!

There are people who are so much greedy, that they allways loose more money instead of making some.
if this guy would be smart, he would sell ot for 3 or maybe 5$
He would get much more money than with a 13$ app.

There are people who are so much stupid, that they do not understand and do not try to understand why such a price. Look at what functions there is in the appendix D*V Screen Record and compare with those functions that are in applications for 3 - 5 dollars, and then write. D*V Screen Record really records the video with the sound inside the device, without any speakers, microphones, bluetooth .......... Before I wrote my post, I tested 30 apps from the Play Store and they don't record video with internal sound. So who's here the fool? You or the guy who made the really necessary and working application? D*V Scrien Recorder can make a printscreen - but in other applications there is even no this function! D*V Scrien Recorder records in excellent quality and can immediately rassharivat this video for various services including YouTube and much more - so do not talk nastily without any facts and grounds! In occasion of greed - greedy you and same as you who want all for free. You know what can buy for $ 13 ??? one dish in a cafe or even half a dish for that money ........... So who's an idiot? So, here you greedy idiot.

it has almost no downloads...
i dont trust that app
Can anyone reading this who KNOWS FOR SURE please confirm that the new "Hi-Res Audio Output" feature on the beta version of Poweramp main function is to BYPASS Android audio processing (aka via Snapdragon) and have it sent straight to either a better internal DAC (i.e. Quad DAC on LG phones) or else externally via either MicroUSB cable and/or Bluetooth?
This article from a month ago claims it does, but I'd like to hear it from someone else too who knows for sure that's what it's actually doing. Such a thing would be great for enhanced audio and also less battery consumption.
Thank you in advance!!
As far as I know, Poweramp relies on the audio config xml files on the device - even if it has a separate audio Quad-DAC, like my LG Q7 Plus, it won't recognise it (and no awser from Poweramp developers). In fact, not even UAPP and had some testing with the app devs. So far, the only app I tested that could bypass Android on my Q7, is Neutron Music Player - has it has a custom driver that you can config with the bit depth / sample rates you are sure your device is capable of.
They all work though, with my external USB DAC from FiiO.

Very cool!
As far as I can tell at this point, there's no reason to believe that Poweramp CAN'T bypass processing any of the currently played music file. I believe it bypasses it and sends it on to the next device/DAC without issue. But if you see anything to confirm it doesn't, please feel free to post in here about it! :good:
Thanks!
I did run run dumpsys audio.media_flinger and couldn't find any reference to Offload. Best proof was recording the output of a 192khz sweep sine wave file from 5k to 96k (you can find it on UAPP site) on my PC through an audio interface. While recording you should see output from phone from start to end, and that only happened with Neutron. With LG Music /UAPP / Poweramp, the output stopped at second 28, which is approx the 48khz section - or the max sample rate configured in audio policy XML file.
Cheers

Ok. I honestly don't know what all that means lol, but are you saying that is definitive proof that Poweramp is NOT outputting raw unprocessed data in Hi-Res Output Mode then??
I'm saying for particularly this device. Lg Q7 Plus LM-Q610EA. It works for LG G2 and Xiaomi Mi 8 lite that also own.

Hmm ok. I used to own the LG V30, and my mom still has the LG G6.
I now have the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. I'll just assume it works on that until someone proves otherwise.
Thanks again joliv!
