VS9902BA update - Verizon LG V10

VS9902BA Update
Android Security Patch Level: 2017-12-01
This software update provides improved HD Voice video call screens and the latest Android security patches.
You'll see an LTE icon when your video calls are using an LTE network
It would be nice to get Nougat eventually.
On a side note my phone got the bootloop of death recently and LG still fixed it for free and listed it as under warranty.

Hey, today is the 6th.

Just checked with Verizon; No update to Nougat for the V10 coming any time soon.

There is not going to be any Nougat update for this phone, it is pretty obvious. Verizon have abandoned all support on it. LG updated it about a year ago, and T-Mobile pushed the update to their phones in March of 2017. I love Android devices, and I own a V10, but face it...if you want a phone with long term support and updates, you have to buy an iPhone.

I've never owned a Apple device of any kind and not going to start.
The only smart phone I've owned that I really, really, liked was the Amazon Fire Phone, which I rooted and ran Cyanogen on. Cyanogen was lightening fast compared to the locked down Fire OS (it wasn't loaded with spyware and other crap). But two things ruined it for me. My wife dropped her Fire Phone and shattered it. We then found it was unrepairable. We were moving and I found there was little support for GSM phones service in the small town we were moving to. Only choice we had; Verizon. And here we are. The V10 was $500 each when we bought them and it was the phone with every feature you would want. Still a nice phone but it is so loaded with Verizon crap ware it is maddening. I long to be free.
Now Cyanogen is gone; out of business. The project has been forked to LineageOS. Since there is no hope to root the V10 and cast off the crapware laden Android; this this phone has been a disappointment.

I do not love or hate Apple devices. I am a light phone user and this year I was just going to buy an iPhone 8 plus or X and have it be the last phone I ever buy. The phone would only really be used for emergencies, texting, and an app or two. I too am tired of the crapware the carriers put on the Android phone. It would not be too bad if you could uninstall it. After all, it is my phone and I should be able to use it as I want. The V10 had everything I wanted in a phone when I bought it. A great screen, removable battery, 64GB storage, micro sd card slot, etc. Now it looks like this V10 will be my last phone as the new ones have been priced way above I think a phone is worth. I am not disappointed in the V10, so I guess it is not all that bad. I am just an electronics addict and I loved upgrading every few years!

EPIC Fail...
I have both an Android and an iPhone. Android has it's issues but it is far less annoying than my iPhone. I despise this iPhone but it's my work phone so I cannot get rid of it.

T-Mo Marshmallow update?

Anyone hearing ANYTHING about this update? Not even on T-Mo's software update site is it mentioned. I realize the phone has only been out for several weeks, but shouldn't there even be a mention of it? The G4 and G3 updates are complete - I can't imagine it will take much longer - I hope?
With carriers if you are anticipating an update you will turn old and gray...i've learned the best bet is to not think about it and be pleasantly surprised when it releases
if you get any phone outside of a nexus and expect timely updates...that's your fault (not you specifically...just in general)

I can't argue wit that, but T-Mobile has been pretty good about being transparent with updates. Oh well....
As far I know there is still a problem with phone not sending or received mms's on marshmallow and tmobile.

....just wonderful.
I don't think LG has announced an update for the V10. We'll have to wait for them first...they said it was coming in the next 6 months if I recall correctly.

Isn't the V10 basically a G4? So if G4 is done, v10 should be shortly.
this is just me but i think they have something planed for the v10 they arent saying, i mean the second screen has so much it could do but it just seems like they didnt finish it. has anyone actually realized that there is a setting to set a background image on the second screen it lets you crop the back ground and everything just doesnt apply to the screen. even sync is different than what i'm use to i mean it doesnt kill the battery like on my note for i never left it on it was a 4 hour difference in battery life now its like 15 to 20 minutes different.
LG said something about early 2016 for the V10 update. Will try to find a reference.
considering newest rumors say that g3 update is comming mid dec. and v10 was originaly slated for late 2015, early 2016, you can expect it(going off rumors and leaks) that it'll happen around end december throughout jan.
i have tmo. and my g3 was updated to lolipop earlier this year around march.. LG said they want to get marshmellow out faster then lolipop was.

So I decided (and you cannot begin to fathom how painful this choice was) to skip root and update to marshmellow.
Android pay being excluded due to root was bad enough, but Pokemon Go was the straw that broke the camel's back.
The camera and audio on this phone are awesome...as is root.
If you don't have root, there is honestly not much reason to have this phone IMO.
Or if you got a super deal on it, that would be a good reason too, and it does look cool and is well-made.

It is a very nice looking phone and does seem well made. I LOVE the fingerprint reader. it works so fast and seamless. Not like my old S5. this is the first non-Samsung phone I've had in 4 years and let me just say It feels so good not to look at another TW interface.I was eligible for a subsidized upgrade through Verizon and my choices came down to this or the Moto Z. I finally chose this because 1: 64 GB, 2. Headphone Jack, and 3. Regular micro USB connection.
LG is lacking in support lately. 6.0.1 has been available since December 2015 and they sent 6.0 in May of 2016 then another update in July 2016 and it still isn't 6.0.1.

Those Obliq cases are nice looking but I already bought a Rugged armor case (otter knockoff) on Ebay. I don't like the glass screen protectors though. I tried one once on a previous phone and it broke within a week. I was glad my phone itself wasn't broken, but what's the point protecting yoru screen from breakage with something that looks broken?
I stick with the plastic screen protectors.
I will only use glass SPs. Most manufacturers such as Tech Armor will replace them for free if they break.

If you can get a phone WITHOUT v6 (marshmellow) then you have it made.
I loved this phone till I made the dumb ass move and and accepted the v6 update. It borked BT; now everything I connect to is staticy and noisy. It worked perfect before. I called Verizon support about this; they were no help, and didn't care.

All issues are fixed with 6.0.1. At least on Google's side. LG and VZW refuse to push this update. I've taken to tweeting them almost daily. LG no longer responds and VZW wants to do troubleshooting.

They will push the update about 3 weeks after you sell the phone. You might see an update. Now that Nougat is live, you should see the update to 6.0.1 in 18 months because Verizon has decided that you as customers do not want to deal with pesky updates and security fixes.
I think I am going to ditch this brick and get a Pixel phone, updates straight from google when they are released. No Verizon branding or bloat if you get it from google.

No. Does not appear so.
Only if u were already rooted/unlocked/ with TWRP and flashed the Update.zip stock rom already posted. Then u can flash Magisk and root works fine.
Upgrading via OTA or LG Official restore tool (Bridge) re-locks down everything as its reflashing it to pure stock.
I would assume that current means/exploits have not worked on this new version.
The V10 is largely abandoned...(cause V20 been out a while now and soon to the come the V30.
Far as I can tell, only 1 maybe 2 people working on this phone in their spare time....soo....Don't hold your breath.
If a rooted device is very important to you, other than waiting, one could buy a used V10 (or V20) that hasn't been updated off Swappa for pretty cheap. Or, sometimes folks sell already modded/rooted devices. (thats how i got both my V10's).

Verizon updating phones

Looks like the LG G6 and other phones are getting important updates this week from Verizon. https://www.droid-life.com/2017/11/...s-galaxy-s7-s7-edge-lg-g6-v20-moto-z2-z-play/
Verizon has started pushing out a new update to LG V20 units on its network. Arriving as software version VS99518A, it brings the November security patch.
Reports say the carrier is all set to push out new updates - presumably containing the November patch - to several other smartphones as well, including Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, LG G6, and Moto Z Play and Z2 Play. These updates should be rolling out later today.
#GSMArena
They waited this long to provide any patches, should have just waited until Oreo.
Sent from my VS988 using Tapatalk
Sad part is when Oreo comes, they'll probably roll out 8.0 instead of the fixed 8.1. Nougat 7.0 has flaws that 7.1/7.1.2 fixed but they started with it. I remember suffering through the same bluetooth audio issues when my Nexus 6P was on 7.0.
update from the Droid life article: LG G6: VS98813A
"On a related note, this is the first update for the LG G6 on Verizon since August 1, which means that phone is still on July’s security patch. If you ever wonder why we prefer Google’s phones so much for updates, this would be a good example."
So much for a meaningful update. I'm torn whether to upgrade to a Galaxy phone for the features or a Google Pixel for timely updates.

As much as Verizon gums up the update timetables, this is a big LG issue. I'm on an unlocked US997 and the 16A update didn't drop that long ago.
The G6 was a compromise for me - I needed an upgrade, badly wanted an unlockable AOSP device that would work on Verizon, but am not independently wealthy. This new price point sucks Google!

The update situation with the G6 is totally ridiculous.
And not only that. Out of pure frustration I recycled my old Nexus 5x a few days ago and upgraded it to the 8.1 preview.
This old phone is so blazingly fast and snappy with 8.1 that it puts the G6 to shame.
2015 phone with Snapdragon 801 beating a 2017 Snapdragon 821 phone, quite unexpected

where did you hear it got pushed back? Is it just a security update or something spectacular? we still don't even have facial recognition yet. I'll be on a Galaxy 8 or 9 in March by the time we get an update for this phone.

Howdy,
I just got off the phone with Verizon. I asked them if the ringer volume and the notification volume were separate or paired up together after this VS98813A update. They had no idea whether or not it was one or the other. I had upgraded to the G6 about a month ago from the Droid Turbo. They had an update that was automatically downloaded and it paired the volumes together. I hated it. It's like taking in your Ferrari for a tune up and getting it back and find out that they got rid of the bucket seats and installed a bench seat.
I'm sure some of you may say that is not a big deal, but it is to me. I like to keep the ringer at full volume yet have the ability to lower the text volume at night or somewhere where it would be a disturbance.
So, the question is....does the new VS98813A update pair up the volumes?
Thanks..

After the update my ringer and notification volumes are still seperate.
---------- Post added at 04:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:33 PM ----------
The update has not been favorable to my battery. Typically I get 18 to 24 hours on battery with 4.5 to 5 hours of screen on time. Yesterday after applying the update on Thursday, I got 11 hours total and 4 hours screen on time .
It also installed an uninstallable app called appflash. Which is getting demolished in the play store.

I wouldn't say stuck. Pretty much everyone is on that patch level AFAIK.
Samsung doesn't do monthly security patches. Last patch was sometimes in March with the Feb Update.
I forgot about that caveat when I gave my wife the P2XL and picked up a S9+
What the heck. Even my Wife's Note 8 is on the March patch!
I even have 2 Verizon S6's that were getting monthly security patches like clockwork. These are on April already. S6's are like 3 years old I think!
I'm still on the Feb patch.... I have the unlocked U1...
It's nuts!
Mine says last update was March 31.
1st April 2018 on mine.

I RMA'd a P2XL because of the display flashing. I got a good one and sold it & bought the S9+. I would keep the Pixel if I had it to do over again. The hardware is ok with the Samsung but I don't want the Samsung account, Bixby or any of their apps. I thought they had evolved into something I could use and even like but I was wrong. I'm going to try to live with it until the next Pixel comes out. I'm sure it will be a beast.

You don't really have to use Samsung account or bixby or any of the Samsung apps. you could simply not use them, or even disable them with a package disabler. I personally prefer to use some Samsung apps but it's completely possible to use the phone without having to use Samsung account or their apps.
Updates seem to be monthly for global variants; I am not sure some why US variants are lagging on updates. Maybe they are working on bringing android P on time for you guys when google announces it (stable/final); because usually that is when Samsung updates start getting delayed for flagships.

Updates seem to be monthly for global variants; I am not sure some why US variants are lagging on updates. Maybe they are working on bringing android P on time for you guys when google announces it (stable/final); because usually that is when Samsung updates start getting delayed for flagships.

It amazes me that people complain about Samsung bloatware but don't about Google's. Maps, Drive, Duo, Hangouts, GMail, and so much more! I have yet to own an Android device where junk, including Google's wasn't needed to be removed! A few minutes on how to use ADB easily solves the bloat that user is unhappy with. The Bixby button is easily disabled, a Samsung account isn't needed (I don't have one), and hopefully Samsung will allow us to remap that useless button with Bixby disabled.
Updates every 3 to 4 months seems to be the common theme for most manufactures outside of Google. Updates are good but they can't make up for garbage hardware, like LG's display on the Pixel 2 XL. Flickering is the least important issue with those displays to be complaining about. Uniformity issues, which LG calls a "characteristic of the manufacturing process" and graininess are high up there. Even with Google giving LG tons of money just about every year, LG's mobile division still loses money and has for 11 years straight!
There might be little annoyances with Samsung's updates and implementation but those are easily changed. When it comes tot he hardware though, you really can't beat those Samsung OLED panels and the hardware to go with it.
