This afternoon I made a backup in TWRP (all partitions).
Tried to install another ROM but it was unsuccesfull. Tried to restore everything.
Before installing I wiped system, cache, Dalvik, Data.
During restoring the partition FIRMWARE was nog recognized and not restored (although it was formatted TWRP says).
I got this error: extracttarfork() process ended with error=255
I can start my Redmi note 4 SD, but SIM, BT WIFI is not working anymore. Under settings baseband is empty and IMEI also....
I have no other backup....Tried to do this, but no succes:
How to Fix EFS from TWRP recovery
Boot into TWRP recovery.
From TWRP’s main screen, selectAdvanced » then Terminal.
Type the following commands in terminal (one by one):
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst1
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst2
Reboot device.
How to solve this, I need my phone tomorrow for work....Simply install the standard ROM again is no solution I think because of IMEI and baseband.....Hope anybody can help me!

I tried to update my device with the newest ROM (Dirty Unicorns) and somehow bricked it. ...
The device just stuck in the flashing process for over 10 hours. After TWRP and Fastboot were still working, I tried a lot of things to revive the system, but everything I tried went wrong.
First I tried to flash the factory image. The strange thing: that seamed to work well (with Wugfresh toolkit), but the device still stuck in a bootloop.
Everything I try in the recovery mode ends by TWRP with "E: Unable to mount '/system'" (in red letters). So I tried to flash the factory image again and wiped the device in the newly flashed Revovery completely.
No change: "Updating partition details... E: Unable to mount '/system'".
- ABD sideload doesn't work. I tried to flash system.img. No success.
- Bootloader is unlocked. V3.44.1.0123
- Newest TWRP (twrp-2.8.7.0-flounder.img)

Boot to bootloader, and enter the following commands:
fastboot format cache
fastboot format userdata (NOTE THAT THIS WILL WIPE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR SDCARD)
fastboot reboot
So, I was trying to format my SD Card, partition table & all, since Marshmallow's adoptable storage feature messes up the partition table. Since my SD Card doesn't work in my pc, I have to use dd in recovery. This wasn't a big deal since I've already done this successfully 2 or 3 times already. So, since I knew the path of the SD Card already, I typed "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk1 bs=1M count=1" . Except, I made a slight mistake & typed /dev/mmcblk0 instead of /dev/mmcblk1.
Thankfully, fastboot still worked, so all I had to do is fastboot flash partition gpt.bin to repartition my phone. Or so I thought. When I type this, it says "(bootloader) Preflash validation failed". I already know from prior experience that this error happens when you try to flash an old version of gpt or bootloader. However, these files are from the latest stock rom version, which is "SURNIA_BOOST_5.1_LPI23.29-18-S.2_cid9_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml".
So, is there anyway I can fix this, or am i hard bricked? Do I just need a newer firmware?
EDIT: Just found a newer firmware, however it is not for my country or carrier. Nevertheless, I am still downloading it & I'm going to see if it can unbrick it or not.
Update
OK, so flashing the gpt.bin from the newer firmware worked, & I was able to flash TWRP, but now I have a different problem. The recovery can't mount system, cache, or data. Attempting to wipe these does nothing. When I try to format these in fastboot, I get the message "Formatting is not supported for filesystem with type 'raw'.".
What do I do now?
Flash only system pertision then data then boot. Via fastboot with original firmware of ur model no
I fixed it! Turns out constantly formatting & rebooting with TWRP actually worked.
Hi,
I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me with my issue. I got my G5 H850 (european) today and got TWRP installed, installed SU and was in the process of installing a custom rom (this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/stock-h850-20a-eu-rom-flashable-zips-t3506514)
Was using the TWRP install method and using the LG-H85020A-Flashable.COMPLETE.zip
I suspect my issue occured when I performed a wipe and also completed the 'Format Data' option, where I had to type 'yes' to proceed.
I had installed the ROM and SU but now when rebooting system from within TWRP it just shows this orange warning https://support.google.com/nexus/an...4544340095349-2688197337&p=verified_boot&rd=1 and then boots back into TWRP.
I've tried the Terminal Emulator commands to get out of this and also tried the same thing from withing ADB on my computer.
I can still access TWRP and Bootloader, I can also still use ADB and Fastboot commands from my laptop, my phone is still detected. Because of this i'm sure it is still fixable but i'm at a bit of a loss for what to do as everything i'm trying seems to not be working.
Any help at all will be appreciated. My end goal is to have Stock Nougat installed with Root and TWRP
the orange warning comes from unlocking your device and is ok - because there is no other way for root;
try this: TWRP - Go to Wipe->Format Data. Don’t Swipe to Factory Reset
I had the same (loop), disabled the encryption for /data but didn't wipe it
If you have exsdcard, remove then boot without sdcard. Eventually format internall sdcard.

Just so you know the above commands are actually not recommended to get out of TWRP boot loop anymore as those commands wipe the whole misc partition including your WiFi Mac address (as discussed by me and autoprime in my thread to fix the always changing Mac address issues).
To anyone stuck in TWRP, run the following command from TWRP to get out of TWRP boot loop:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/misc bs=256 count=1 conv=notrunc
This will get you out of TWRP boot loop and not wipe your while misc partition. If you already ran the previous commands and now your WiFi Mac address changes on every boot, visit my fix here:

...With a twist...
I'm in a similar situation with my h830. After trying to install a CM14.1 update, I kept having it boot into TWRP. Wiping system, or wiping everything, before trying multiple versions of CM14.1, didn't help (of course, now that I know this).
If I still had TWRP I'd be OK. The problem is that I next tried flashing the stock 20a ROM using LGUP, since I knew that if I had 20a running I could get root and re-install, and someone somewhere that the fix to the recovery loop is to reflash a ROM. However, now what happens is it keeps looping into the stock recovery instead of the custom recovery, and now I'm really stuck.
Right now, what I can do is get into fastboot mode, or get into LGUP download mode, or get into the stock recovery (which just keeps erasing things). The device is 'fastboot oem unlock'd already. If I try booting into the system, it shows the T-Mobile logo for about ten seconds and then boots back into recovery. I can flash the stock 20a ROM to heart's content but nothing changes.
Is there any way to wipe the misc partition without having TWRP? Or are there any other suggestions on how to proceed? I have the Android platform-tools, LGUP, and LG Flashtool installed.

I did this os Los 1.5.1 h830 but once it reboots google play services error come up and I cant resolve them even my reflashing with gapps???? any ideas???
Methinks, I've messed up my phone bad. Is there a fix for wiping the misc partition?
running root stock 21d and did a Factory Reset subsequently going into a boot loop
came across this thread and didn't READ it through and applied the incorrect fix
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/soc/624000.ufshc/by-name/misc
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/soc/624000.ufshc/by-name/fota
it wouldn't boot after that at all. display said Your device is corrupt etc and boot loader was locked
after a while:
boot loader -> flash the RS98810h_01_0303.kdz
unlock bootloader
installed twrp and flashed RS988_21d-Stock_Flashable-COMPLETE.zip
now its stuck in a boot loop. starts up normally, android upgrading till all apps complete. Then a few seconds after the boot is complete (setup process) it reboots and is stuck in the same a boot loop
I think it might have something to do with wiping the misc partition
Anyone know how to recover from that or have a backup of the misc partition to send? Or perhaps I'm off here, but that's the best I can think of
ps: I have the original MAC
If you look at the bottom of the 2nd post in this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71797169&postcount=2) it has a link to info on fixing it.

guys, Lenovo Tab 4 10 here, I've tried using Jeff's command in TWRP terminal, but I'm getting "dd: conv option disabled". What should I do now?
So I've decided to go back to stock the other night, I flashed the 21a zip floating around here. After I did that I cannot get into TWRP. I have reflashed TWRP in fastboot but when I hold volume down and power and go through the menu like normal, it goes to LGs stock erasing data then reboots me. I'm completely lost, any help would be great.
Edit: A little workaround I've found so far is to fastboot flash recovery then pull battery after disconnecting cable. Then going through vol down + power works to enter recovery mode. Going to try flashing a ROM and see what happens.
Edit 2: So...I kept getting unsuccessful encryption after flashing 21a then deleting recovery-from-boot.p from system, even after Magisk was installed. So I flashed the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip after 21a and booted and now I'm stuck in TWRP loop. Fun.
Edit 3: What a morning! So I ended up formatting everything even internal storage. Then I reflashed 21a, deleted recovery-from-boot.p from system, flashed Magisk, rebooted but it just went to TWRP. So then I went to terminal and typed in "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/misc bs=256 count=1 conv=notrunc" and it seems to be working just fine right now.
