Mate 10 Pro - broken notificattions - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I have serious issue with my Mate 10 Pro. I started to notice, that my phone is not notificating me about new e-mails (gmail and outlook apps), new messages (hangouts) or reminders (to-do app). I Googled everything about this but nothing helped. I set background apps to "manage manually" and turned on "Ignore battery optimisation". I have also locked the apps in multitasking and added widgets to home screen. Nothing helped.
Also I have noticed that during the night all apps are gone from multitasking. What is going on? I never had such issue with any Android phone or tablet before.
Can anybody help me please?

Ahh.
Ok.
Bloody hell orange ?

Your problem is very likely being caused by Huawei's by-default aggressive battery optimisations.
There are two sections of settings to look at in fixing this;
1. To stop critical (to you) apps being forcibly closed, go to SETTINGS -> BATTERY -> LAUNCH, change your selected apps from "automatic" to "manual" and make sure "Run in Background" is enabled for them.
2. To allow critical (to you) apps to continue running with the screen off, go to SETTINGS -> APPS & NOTIFICATIONS -> APPS -> SETTINGS -> SPECIAL ACCESS -> BATTERY OPTIMISATION, change "Not Optimised" to "All" at the top of the screen, then set your critical apps to "Not Optimised."
It's a true pain that it's a two-fold process in different sections of the settings and that they're so tedious to get to, but once you've discovered where they are, it (sort of) makes sense.

I have already done these two steps. Didn't work. For example this morning I checked my phone, no notification. I opened gmail app, suddenly there is big 7 next do my new e-mails. Even then there was no notification in status bar.

Have you checked that the app has notification permissions? SETTINGS -> APPS & NOTIFICATIONS -> NOTIFICATIONS MANAGEMENT
This is admittedly a far stretch as by default all apps should have notification permissions, but it's worth a try - and unfortunately is the only remaining idea I have.

Yes, did that too. Even set those apps to priority. I guess I will really have to try that factory reset. What also bothers me is, that sometimes I want to unlock the phone (fingerprint or button) I hear the unlock sound, but the phone lights up like 5 seconds later.

I doubt that the factory reset will help you. Well, at least with the to-do app reminders part. As I've described in my post (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/help/local-notifications-t3737241), almost any to-do app fails to show the reminders (all possible optimization turned off, all permissions given), and it either has smth to do with our firmware, or with the apps not being adopted for the Oreo (some noticeable changes in notification API).

But if his phone takes 5 seconds to wake up, something is seriously wrong. I would highly recommend a factory reset if for nothing else than fixing the 5 second wake up time.

i have the same issue with almost all apps that i am using
did everything in google and still no luck
not sure is it app issue , huawei , android .... me ?
common i dont want to open and check all apps all the day to see if there is update or not just push it to me as soon as it get .

Same here, I have BLA-L09 8.0.0.128 (C432). I've tried all battery and notifications settings and I've also factory reset my phone. Google now does not update news, Gmail does not notify new emails, 3rd party widgets do not refresh, and the app for my car does not sync via Bluetooth (I have to remove the the BT profile and create it again to sync 1 time then stops)

I had the same problem with my previous phone (samsung note 3). It turned out to be due to IPv6 being enabled. Have you tried disabling it?

Because its preinstalled app. Anyway both settings doesn't works. I'm selling this peace of **** phone because it has no use anymore. Worst phone ever.
Can't get notifications from most of apps. So why do I need a smartphone like this...
And even battery, doesn't lasts full day from the time I wake up, till I go to sleep. so Huawei is the last phone I ever bought.

so is there any chance to have this issue fixed ?
by update perhaps , can we contact them or complain so they notice ?
i really search about phones before i buy it and choosed this one from the e specs and reviews
but i didnt expect there is a (SMART)PHONE would have a problem like this at all it is unbelievable
and i dont want to sell it .. just want this issue to be fixed

Just a thought...I read here and elsewhere that putting widgets on your home screen helps notifications comes through due to the fact that the widget keeps the apps open. I did this with my Honor Note 8 and, along with the other bits of advice above, got most of my notifications to work.

Was hoping there was a way to turn them off totally that i hadn't found.
I never got them on my iphone, and i don't remember them on 1.6, although i didn't have it installed long.
Settings / Sound and Display / Notification sound maybe?
I go to Settings > Applications > Running Services i then see Ebay notificationService, if i click on that i get a warning 'the serivce will not run until clicked on again This may have undesirable concequences for the installation what the hell does that mean? I know it would be easy to uninstall and re-install but i hate doing that as it just leaves junk on your drive.
Just open the eBay app you have, go to settings and there will probably be something about notifications. Turn it off. Or uninstall the app.

Sarcasm? I gave you an answer that would fix your problem.
I'm guessing you have either the official 'eBay App' (in which case Menu > Settings > uncheck the Notifications box) or you have the 'Pkt Auctions eBay' (then open the app, press settings, uncheck Bidding alerts and Watching alerts).

Read no:5 above
I'm not going to repeat myself again, i have given you the solution but for some reason you are ignoring it.
Forcing the notification process to close via the 'Running Services' (post no.5) is completely different to turning it off via the settings menu in the application. Forcing it to close probably will have undesirable consequences for the eBay app (e.g. Force Closes) until you restart it, because it's not supposed to be forced to close (It will also restart every time you run the app, completely defying the point of even doing it). Turning it off via the app's settings is safe and will stop the notification from reappearing.
Instead of being arrogant, please listen to the advice people give you.

'arrogant' i had to google that
My brain is hanging upside down

Anyone else having problems with apps and notifications?

So, my emails arrive late, the stock messaging app doesn't show new texts unless you scroll down when you open it (!!!), replacement sms apps have been wonky as well,... In general things just aren't updating correctly. I've made sure to go through the power management menus to allow apps to do what they need to but no go.
Anyone else had this problem? The battery life, size, and tethering capabilities are nice, but I just put my sim back in the Note 2 as those problems are making using this too unreliable.
Same problem here
I also have this problem, and I believe several people mentioned this in different places, so following is what I have done so far, not sure if this help your case, I am still monitor my phone since I just change my settings a few days back.
Standard steps includes:
("the app" below mean the application you have problem receive notification)
1. Set the app as protected in the Battery Saving settings.
2. Allow the app run in background.
3. In Wifi advanced settings, set to "always" during sleep.
4. Set power saving mode from "Smart" to "normal" .
I still have problem after all above steps, so I have make following attempt:
1) Disabled/Freeze "Phone Manager" system app.
2) Another app is "Power Genie", this app still run even I freeze it. So I have to use Root Explorer to rename them
under /system/app, rename HwPowerGenieEngine3.apk to HwPowerGenieEngine3.apkk, and rename HwPowerGenieEngine3.odex to HwPowerGenieEngine3.odexx
then reboot to recovery, clear cache, and dalvik cache, then reboot.
Again I am still testing this... HTH.
Just want to write a update, I think this resolved app got killed issue in my phone.
I think I found what was messing with my texts. I had mysms installed to backup and send texts to my N7. There's no way to select the stock app as the default messaging app. I ended up deleting mysms and only downloading it when I switch the sim into my Note 2.
The bigger problem is with Spotify. Even with it saved as a protected app it turns off about two minutes after the screen turns off, rendering the app almost useless. Wtf??
Mine works idk. it has to be a setting. hmm. you sure you have wifi on when screen is off. it is it's own setting on this phone
My notifications seem to quit working at times and I notice when using root explorer that my ext SD isn't showing
I wonder why my phone is working with notification (I even have ac display working to turn the screen on for 10 seconds when receiving a text message or email from work) I also use Spotify every day since I'm a premium member. No issues at all. I'm even able to change the volume and skip track and play and pause from my LG Tones
---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:13 AM ----------
make sure Spotify is set to run in background not just a protected app otherwise when you shut your phone off it will end the app. that might be your problem.

it works in my phone. But you know, some mate2 owners don't have this issue at all.
May be an issue with APN settings. What I had when I first got the phone and what my settings are now seem much better especially when breaking up data and MMS into two different it independent panes. Once set to fast.t-Mobile.com and APN type default, supl, hipri the second selectable APN labeled for MMS as APN type and everything else identical and all hand offs via WiFi or mobile data are seamless. I was having various network issues prior to changes made to build.prop and default APN and once phone went to sleep it would not get alerts or transition to active/awake very well.

Yup yup, same here. I'm using Nova Launcher + TeslaUnread Plugin. Also stopped using my previous favorite 3rd party SMS replacement, Chomp, and now I'm back on stock SMS. The plugin seems very stable to me, I get a little number bubble on my SMS app on the homescreen, even if the notification doesn't come through on the status bar. Not exactly a fix, but it's been a decent workaround for me.

I was able to get my phone to connect with my surge hr Fitbit. Just wasn't reading directions correctly. The Surge hr is a nice product, now if I could only squeak out more time between charges. Roughly 3 days is the most I get between charges. I turn off the notifications when not needed.
I haven't posted in a while, but I've run into a problem.
I recently got the Aplus GV18 smartwatch. The watch requires an app called BTNotification to be on my phone; the app pushes notifications from my phone to the watch. However, if I leave the phone for any length of time then the app turns off and I don't get notifications.
I downloaded the app on another phone of mine and it stayed connected overnight. So it isn't the watch. I've tried just about everything I've found. I have:
-Changed the battery mode to "Normal"
-Disabled "Phone Manager" and the "Power genie" thing
-Fiddled with the # of background processes in the Dev options
-Changed the WIFI to stay on even with the screen off
-Other things in various threads
Any ideas??

Mate 10 Pro - Bluetooth Audio Stops when screen switched off

Hi,
Mate 10 Pro user here.
When I play audio via Bluetooth to my car or headphones, after the screen switches off the audio stops.
When I switch the screen back on the audio starts back up.
Any ideas? Seems like some power optimisation, but I can't find anywhere to fix it.

None of these are by default allowed to run in the background (thank Huawei's rather vicious power management system), which would explain why they're being killed as soon as the system thinks you're no longer using them.
Go to Settings -> Battery -> Launch and switch whichever player you want to use to "manage manually," and leave all three manual settings set to "on" (or in the very least, leave the "run in background" option enabled).
This should then allow your preferred media player to continue running in the background after the screen locks.

To tell you the truth, I was getting ready to try to sell my Mate 10 when it was three days old, because the power saving features are so intrusive.
As time has progressed though, I've learnt to embrace its idiosyncrasies and am now very happy with it all 'round.
Just one more point which I'm sure you'll encounter sooner rather than later - if you need an app to consistently run in the background (for example, Tasker or an e-mail client), you'll want to tell the Mate 10 to allow it to do so;
Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Apps -> Settings (the cog at the bottom of the screen) -> Special Access -> Battery Optimisation
... then set your critical apps to "Don't Optimise."
Until I did this for K9 Mail and Tasker, I was only getting notification updates when I unlocked the 'phone, which more often than not was a couple of hours after I was sent an urgent e-mail.

EMUI 9.1 update - all notifications late or not appearing

I know this is a topic existing over internet, I've googled it extensively, but up to now I haven't found a solution.
I've got a non-pro Mate 10, the Chinese version AL-00, rebranded to International/Global ALP L-29.
Approximately two to three weeks ago I got an update from 9 to EMUI 9.1, and maybe a week later, another update as a security patch. The current version of the software is 9.1.0301 (C636E2R1P12).
After the system update, I normally updated all the apps that needed updating and cleaned the phone's cache from bootloader. And although now I once again receive notifications from Google play when an app needs updating (I stopped receiving those a while back for an unknown reason), I stopped receiving notifications for virtually any messaging service or social network, including Gmail app.
To be more specific, when using Gmail, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Whatsapp LinkedIn or some other, I do not get notified of new messages/posts/emails whatever, UNLESS I am using the phone at that particular moment, or unless I am using that specific app at that moment. That also applies for my bank's custom app which should normally notify me instantly as soon as some expense occurs on my card. A few times it even happened that I would receive and reply to a FB message, close the app and like an hour later would receive a notification that that specific person messaged me.
This only started happening after that last update.
I tried turning off battery optimization for each and every single of those apps, I tried switching App launch to manual. It literally makes no difference. Force stopping and cleaning the cache of the apps doesn't help as well.
While I could live with it when it comes to FB or LinkedIn, I cant have Gmail or FB Messenger holding my messages for so long without notifying me. I need them for my work and sometimes time is of the utmost essence.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: I just noticed that I'm having same problems with Google Keep app when using reminders
Please, guys, help!

Do you have root? Try freezing powergenie app, it should allow the notifications to come on time. The only issue is there might be a "slight" battery drain from more apps allowed to run in background. That was a dirty fix that worked even in emui 8/9 and peps seemed to have no issues even after the mod.
Since emui 9.1 introduces erofs file system, you'll have to either freeze the app in question everytime you reboot or create magisk module that during boot replaces contents of /system/app/HwPowerGenieEngine3 with empy folder - I'm not sure how removing odex files affects the thermals so I suggest just removing apk file and keeping everything else from the original directory intact if the temps and phone performance behave odly after doing this.
Feel free to give it a try, but I don't think it's actually worth doing it. The old forum post suggesting this mod actually overlooked the importance of power genie when it comes to temps + performance regulations across the board. Without it the temps will rise, phone won't supercharge and the performance will dip.
I'm actually playing around with this rn, trying to remove thermal limits on per app basis, if I come across anything I'll let ya know. Good luck
Have you made test on both mobile network and on WLAN? And what provider do you use with this phone? I see OP1 and VIP in your profile, probably outdated.

Yeah, thanks, and I can see that you really wanted to help but no, I never rooted this phone, so I guess that all the tips you have for me are, unfortunately, in vain
Thanks though, for trying to help!

Yep I did, sometimes switching between WiFi and mobile network does activate the apps to check for new messages/mail, and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't noticed any clear pattern.
And it must be difference between XDA forums and the app. I swear I switched it when I bought the Mate. But I'm still on VIP/A1
@neverone, go to Settings > Battery > More battery settings and switch on the option Stay connected when device sleeps. I didn't see you mention this somewhere, I switch this on after every factory reset.

No I haven't, but now that I checked, it was turned on all the time. However, knowing that sometimes this actually works, I toggled it off and back on several times and restarted the phone. I'll pay closer attention during the day to see if that helped and report back here. Thanks for the suggestion.
I too have this issue in my M10Pro specially in messenger. sometimes the chat icon doesn't appear even if i have an unread message.

Here's an update: Turning off and on the "Stay connected" option did not help at all, the real proof is that i received an email notification of cheeze.keyk replying to this thread, and I only saw it when I logged in on my PC. The phone did not notify me at all.
So the problem still persists, unfortunately. I am really hoping that I won't have to make a factory reset, although it is also uncertain if that would help at all.
totally bummed. my Mate 10 Pro screen just went crazy. It now has a bright green line all across the very bottom of the screen. And the whole screen now has a faint "screen door" effect going on. just enough to be irritating. I doubt I can live with it, but I loved this phone.

I'm sorry that you're experiencing such issues, but I don't see the link between your issues, and the issues we're discussing here.
agreed. wrong thread. sorry
@neverone, another idea. Have you frozen some system apps, especially Google Play Services? Or maybe disabled in battery app launch or turned on battery optimization for Google Play Services and Google Services Framework?

These two screenshots show show which apps I have frozen/disabled and which of the Google based apps have and don't have battery optimisation activated.
This essentially hasn't changed since I bought the phone over a year ago. Do you think I should do something with these apps or change some of their settings?
Send also the complete screenshot of Settings > Battery > App launch > Three dots > Manage manually.
Did you restrict background data maybe? Settings > Wireless & networks > Data usage > Network access > in upper drop down menu switch to Advanced network settings > Tick all apps on both installed and system apps list.
And the last question, do you use Smart Data Saver? Settings > Wireless & networks > Data usage > Smart Data Saver

Here you go, attached. Hope you'll be able to read all the apps ?

Nope, all processes have an unrestricted background data ?

Nope, data saver has been turned off and moreover, most of the apps seem to be ticked as an exception if it ever gets turned on
Hope that you put all checkmarks on Google Play Services and all other apps you have notifications problem.
Well as you can see, considering Google's apps, all is good.
I mean this one in Settings > Battery > App launch > Three dots > Manage manually, have a look on attachment.
So, my Email client, Google Play services, Moj Telekom, Viber and WhatsApp have set all three options: auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. With this setup, I have no problems at all.

notification issues.

For anyone experiencing notification issues.
I was. None were coming through when they were sent. I changed push notification delay. I tried near everything
(Not coming through you have turned on notifications turn off power saving etc for the app)
If you have root and are able to freeze applications ( I have used titanium backup) to freeze the security app. All my notifications are coming though properly now.
I saw on a website someone that changed the security app so I thought why not freeze it. It works .
Still have access to permissions etc.
The only thing to remember is to keep them in memory. If you close the app you will have to reopen it manually.
I'm on ZUI 11
Not root case
If you don't have root, you can turn off battery optimization in settings for the apps you want, them put them on "autostart" in the security app and just minimize the apps
It's not a good solution, since you can't close fully the apps, but at least you will have notifications

Yes, it's not good, that's why I'm trying a custom rom now
But for those who are afraid to root/install a custom, it's what they have (notificon also helps, but have to pass through the same steps)

Just bought lenovo z5 pro 64gb. I have same problem with whatsapp and other user app notifications. Im on ZUI 11. 1.093 ST.
Im finally found a way to make whatsapp and other user app to make a sound when message coming.
Just install Missed Notifications Reminder from play store. After installation complete, just give permission access for this app to run. Next, you can set reminder for as low as 0.1 minutes ( fastest option and its fast enough ) and set reminder repetitions, i set for 2x repetition. Then finally you can select what application do you want to be reminded (any app on your phone).
Now, when new notification come, my phone will make sound
For those who still use the stock china zui, the notification bug still occurs?
yes i still have notification issues sometimes with whatsapp even though i went through all the settings in the security app and battery optimization.even installed missed notifications reminder which helped a little but not always.
im using the latest zui rom 11.5.247.things worked much better on 10.5
