I had this, but not on this phone.
It would play the sound when "Preparing sd card..." pops up, but that notification disappears when it's done so it just makes the sound and no notification.
Might be something similar for you.

had this too, twice today actually. but i also have a smartwatch figured that it popped up something that got dismissed on the watch.

I know a few apps that will make the notification ring, but won't show nothing on the status bar.
Anyways you could run the phone in safety mode for a while to discard a firmware failure.

[Q] Why does my default ringtone play after the battery alert sound plays?HKTW 2.3.4

I'm updated to the 2.3.4 GB going around...one issue I've noticed is that when my battery gets to the 15% and then the 5% warning, it plays the alert sound, then my default ringtone plays and I can't silence it.
Anyone know what is going on or how to fix?
Thanks
Just rebooted for something unrelated and my ringtone played for no reason as soon as the phone booted to the home screen.

I know same here. I just ignored it. Lol
Sent from rooted Atrix on 2.3.4 with unlocked bootloader using xda premium app.
Mine does it too (I'm assuming everyone's do also). Even if I ignore the message it keeps going so gotta pull the battery or shut down.
If anyone has any ideas how to fix this please share some thoughts. I know we could just not drain the battery down to 15% to avoid it happening.
Haha the same thing happened to me last night, I didn't know what was going on. Had to plug it in to make it stop.
It is the lack of UI Tones

No thanks needed..
Does that fix the issue? I still get the low battery sound...but it plays my ringtone afterwards also.
I guess I'll have to install those sounds and see.

[Q] Official ICS Notification Issue

I'm not sure why but my notification sounds will stop working at a random times. I have to restart my phone to get them working again. I'll have text messages and email without a peep from my phone. Notification volume is at Max and will even play the default tone when adjusted but will not play a notification sound or vibrate for any event until I restart.
I can also now confirm that both my at&t GSIIs with ICS do this but mine seems to be more frequent.
Anyone having this issue?

have ya done a factory reset? Pulled battery for a few? checked the water things inside the phone?
all **** at&t will ask you to do.
Factory reset will most likely fix, or its just the fact that your running a stock at&t build.
I've done all of the above and no a factory reset didn't fix it.
Also my phone is not the only phone this issue is affecting. Both of my GSIIs are doing it plus the other folks if you look at the other forum posts.

Loss of Ringer and Notification Sounds

My wife and I each have the T-Mobile LG V10. Mine works great! Hers does not.
Her sounds will not work consistently. This includes the ringtone and notification sounds. I contacted T-Mobile and they said they have not heard of this issue and I should exchange it. I looked online and found no similar issues. I exchanged it and a day later my wife is having the issues again!! What are the odds??? The only constant between the two phones is the SIM card and Google account info.
Has anyone else had this issue or have any additional ideas on what could be causing the problem?
I have already double and triple checked the notification settings, including the priority calls and interruption settings. I have also performed the factory data reset.

Are her ringtones / media files on an sd card? I'm thinking SD card faulty? Or using stock internal sounds? Then my theory don't fly.
Another test, reset hers stock, pop in your SIM and use your account. Troubleshoot those.

Thanks for replying. No SD card installed. Could the SIM cause a ringer issue????
Maybe a smart setting sound profile?
When you exchanged phones, this you or T-Mobile backup and restore stuff? I know the lg backup will bring old settings back. After the Factory reset, how did you restore the phone?
Does it still happen in safe mode?

Great idea, however, I did not use the LG Backup feature. I did check the smart settings, which are all "Off". How do I enter safe mode?

Set her phone back up as a "new phone" dont restore or sync her account. Check from there.
UPDATE: Exchanged phone again. This is her 3rd LG V10. Guess what happened a few hours later? Ringer and notification sounds stopped working! Then, they came back on again shortly thereafter. Then they stopped working again! This phone has the same issues as the previous ones...only at least the sound works more often than the previous phones! Hopefully this is a software glitch and LG will fix it. I am very surprised my wife has had three phones in a row with the issue and yet I haven't found any threads with others having this problem.
Have you tried getting her a new Sim card? This seems like an issue that is more user related than phone, since it seems she is the only one we know of with that issue.
I'm not saying it couldn't be the phone, but the chances of getting three bad phones in a row with what seems to be a very rare error is pretty slim.

I completely agree, very unlikely. This time I made sure we got a new sim card. If it is not the phone, the only other option is a software glitch, but the only app she uses that I do not is Candy Crush. I doubt that is messing with the ringtones and notifications...but she isnt willing to part with it long enough to find out!
At least this one works slightly better than the previous two...so far.

My wife and I have the same phones and hers after she plays a game the ringer and notification sound will not play. I have check all the settings but can't come up with a reason for it. If she restarts the phone it will work till the next time. I was going to take it back today after work, but after reading this post I don't know if that would do any good.

You are correct, I'm not sure it would help. After my wife had the issue with a third phone, she finally had enough and traded for a Note 5. Interesting note, the only difference between her and I was that she played games a lot...specifically Candy Crush games. Perhaps there is a compatibility issue with those or one of her other games. Hopefully this issue is resolved for you, because the phone was great otherwise!
Two of the games she plays when this happens are hearts and candy crush saga. I turned on vibration with sound and vibration will still work when sound profile doesn't. Haven't found connection yet.
I lost ringtone but still had notifications and message sounds. Don't know what happened but a restart fixed it for now. I don't have any games on my phone at all.

I am having the SAME issue with mine. I have had it since November 2015 and got my husband the same phone for Christmas. His works just fine and mine does not. It will NOT alert me for my text messages for anything. I have checked and rechecked ALL settings.
I too am having this issue and yes I think it's candy crush. This morning I had a full lives notification icon in the task bar and no alarm clock tone just vibration.
I'm having this issue as well. I do not play or have candy crush. My issue started after the last forced update. This is my 2nd phone that has done this. I also have at&t

notification sounds

My notification sounds will randomly stop working and I have to reboot to get them back. Is anyone else having this issue?
I've toggled sound
Changed notification sounds
Nothing but reboot will get them to start working again

Yes i had that but a hard reset fixed that up.
Are these the stock notification sounds, or ones you've added? If you added them, are they on internal memory, or the SD card? I've had problems on other phones with the sound files were on the SD card. They'd work properly for a while, then the systems would seem to lose them.
Hey guys! I have notification sound problems also. I tried fresh install, hard reset, checked permissions and everything but can't get them to work. If the phone is sitting on the table, only vibration if I receive SMS text or WhatsApp or email. If I'm in a game, I have sound for all notifications. Can anyone have any idea what to do next?
Thanks a lot!
I'm having the same issue here, anyone else run into this?
I had this issue with my note 8, had to reboot to get messages notifications back. Happened pretty often, but never thought to research it. Hasn't happened yet on my note 9

Ringtone Reverts to "Silent"

Hey all,
A few days ago, I noticed my phone was only vibrating during incoming calls. I checked the Ringtone section in the sound settings and found that the selected "Tone" was "Silent."
I've tried changing the ringtone to various different sounds, but it continues to revert back to silent. The ringer, itself, ISN'T on silent. It's just the ringtone that seems to get changed somehow.
Anyone else encounter this issue and know how to get it resolved?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Are you trying to set it to one of the built-in ringtones, or a custom one you added? If it's a custom one, is it on the SD card? I've had problems in the past with phones "losing" ringtones that were installed on the SD card, rather than internal memory.

I thought you might be on to something there, so I made sure that all of my ringtones and notifications were copied to internal storage and deleted all sounds from my SD card.
I rebooted, setup my sounds again, and had my wife call me a few times over a period of about 2 hours. Rang every time.
Then, just now, I noticed I had 3 missed calls from clients. NOT good. Checked the ringtone settings and it was back to "Silent" again! Infuriating.
It's not the location of the file. And, now that I think about it, if it HAD been the issue, I would've been experiencing loss of notification tones in all of my other apps too.
This problem has seemingly arisen out of nowhere. The ringer worked perfectly fine during the first few weeks I've had the S9+. It just started doing this to me a couple of days ago. I'd really rather not go through the annoyance of a hard reset...
Damn it, this is getting REALLY annoying
HaaaaLP MEEEEEH!
I'm having the same issue on my Samsung Note 8. Began happening after the device received the Android 8.0 update. I've tried everything and it seems to happen completely randomly. HELP!
Mine is working fine. I have mine on the internal storage in the Ringtones folder /0/Ringtones/ it's an mp3 less than 2MB in size. Not that I know any of that makes any difference.

I hated doing it, but I just performed a factory reset. Been setting up my phone again for hours and I'm not yet done.
So far, it's ringing, but I'm going to be really disappointed if it reverts to silent again. I'll keep you posted.

Tried that too. It worked for a while then randomly went to silent again. It will stay on the ringtone I set for sometimes as long as a day, but eventually it reverts to silent.

So far so good. I've had 7 incoming calls and the ringtone I've selected has stayed in place. For me, before the reset, it would revert to "Silent" after the 2nd call. Fingers crossed.
Same exact thing is happening to me on my HTC U11.
It started happening right away after a full wipe and install of Bad Boyz ROM (Android 8.0). No one else in that ROM thread seems affected.
I have tried just picking a built in ring tone too, and that will also revert. Sometimes it happens within a few minutes, sometimes it takes hours.

That is exactly what happens to me. Custom ringtones make no difference. I've assigned rintones to all my important contacts and those ring through no matter if on silent mode or not. Like you, sometimes it stays put for hours and other times it changes back after a few minutes. Rebooting seems to help it last longer, but I find myself checking my phone all the time to be sure it hasn't gone to silent ringtone. Frustrating!
Hard to blame Samsung if you're not running their software.

I don't believe anyone is *blaming* Samsung although the thread did begin in a Samsung forum. We're just trying to find out why our phones are behaving badly and hoping to find a way to fix a really frustrating problem. Do you have a suggestion on where we might look?
Well, I think it's safe to say that the hard reset did the trick. Ringtone is sticking now. Hooray.

Glad to hear this seems to be working, but not glad that the answer is factory reset. I really, really don't want to go through that. I think I'll suffer along a bit longer and see if someone comes up with a work around or perhaps an app that can lock the ringtone. One can hope.

Yeah, it was a bit of a pain in the a$$, but worth it. Reset definitely did the trick.
I have the same problem on my S9+ since the last update. the basic sound settings revert to Silent as do custom settings. Has anyone contacted Samsung to dee what their excuse is?
Hi Folks, I've been having the same issue since 3 weeks ago. Called Samsung and was told to delete my customized settings. That DID NOT WORK. Finally a Fix. I wipe my cache partition and it worked.
Turn off your phone. Turn it on while holding Power, Bixby, and Vol. Up buttons until you get the menu. Use volume down to get to Wipe Cache Partition (NOT wipe Personal data/factory reset.) Press PWR to accept.
This does not erase anything and it's worked problem free for about a week. I read in other forums that changing the SIM has fixed this issue, but changing your SIM will clear the Cache as well.
Hope this works for you.
The solution is to quickly remove the old ringtone and replace the new ringtone for the phone
