video recording issues - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

using RN4 snapdragon running Cardinal AOSP. No matter which camera app i use the video recording is always dark and cropped in. Its even worst watching the video on a pc as the video is dark as well as zoomed in or cropped into almost half. Whats causing this problem and whats the solution ?? I believe the video quality is not like that in Stock MIUI rom.

[Q] NeatRom 4.7 Lite problems with camera video mode

I've currently installed NeatRom 4.7 Lite. Everything is fine except for the video mode of the standard camera app.
Camera mode is ok as well, but when switching to video mode, the zoom factor seems to change, everything is bigger and I'm unable to record a good video without moving backwards.
Please have a look at the attached screenshots.
Anyone else with this problem?
Anyone with a solution to this?
Thank you.

It's not a problem it happens because of the changes in resolution, in photo mode 8 megapixel capture is at resolution 3264x2448, and max resolution for video recording is 1920x1080.
Edit :If you don't want to step back you can reduce video recording resolution to like 640x480, but the recorded videos will not be good for watching in a big screen.

I was using CheckRom v6 before (Android 2.3.6) and never mentioned anything like this, screen detail was the same in camera and video mode.
Has this something to do with Jelly Bean or only with NeatRom?
Do you know any alternative video recording app?

Well in max resolution(full HD recording) any kind of zooming is not allowed but in lower resolution zooming is there, and I don't remember about gb, but this is common in all my Jellybean device's.
Edit ;So what I mean is since zooming is fixed it's kinda at max zoom, and I am using NeatRom with this device and other jb versions on other devices.

That was my point.
Zoom factor seems to be at max level, whereas it was at min level on GB.
But good to know, that this not a NeatRom failure.
Do you know of an alternative video recording app?
This is a trick used by samsung because we can record on 30fps it crops the image for achiving target fps u cant do anything ..... hardware limitation

I don't know any good ones that record video at full HD, I myself use Camera Zoom FX for multiple camera features, and for video recording they use the stock recorder, and as far as I know the stock video recorder app is referred to as the best, for your problem if you are willing to sacrifice full HD, reducing the resolution to the one just below(1280x720) is also pretty neat since we can play with zooming levels to our desire, I myself find it more comfortable to use.

:good:
Thank you for your answers. Maybe the resolution was set to 1280x720 on CheckROM v6 / Android 2.3.6, so I didn't notice such a difference.
Switched to 1280x720 and now it is ok.
I use Camera Zoom FX for a long time and agree, that it is the best photo solution.

Video recording problem - pixelated (upscaled?) 1080p video

I just recorded a small video of a local event with stock camera app set on 1080p video. In the video if you look around face of the singer or any thin lines, you will see little squares or jagged lines etc., as if the video was upscaled from 480p or something. It's even more visible on original file on a normal PC display, but even in the web version it's a defininte huge loss of resolution. This is very weird. I'm using madsurfer's ROM, but I don't think it's ROM related.
Here's the video: https://goo.gl/photos/c17a5iofhPas73aP9 - first few seconds are out of focus, then you can see the problem.
Any advice?
OK, I have found a workaround for the video problem!
First - I have confirmed, there is definitely a problem with 1080p video recording with stock camera app. I'm not sure if it's ROM related or stock is the same, but it's definitely there. The quality is very very bad, pixelated and feels upscaled.
However when I have installed Cinema FV-5 app, the quality is great, no more pixelation, everything looks better, even crappy digital zoom is smoother. I have shot same video at the same time with stock app and FV-5, and there is a huge difference:
Stock camera app video - pixelated and jagged edges, huge artifacts, digital zoom shows big square artifacts. Check roof edges on top left, and a street lamp pole line.
Cinema Fv-5 video - everything is smooth, no jagged lines, digital zoom shows no squares or pixelation - just sharpness loss.
You have to open both videos on a PC in full screen and with 1080p HD quality to really see the difference.
So the problem is clearly with the stock app, or madsurfer's ROM version of that app or settings. I think another camera app such as FV-5 solves this issue. I liked the simplicity of stock app, but it's not usable at this moment.

Ah, did you try clean flashing other Roms? Top of it, Mido's custom Roms have camera bugs, like video recording isn't working blah blah. :/

Ah, sorry for the late response, went off for few hours.
I wish I could help you on this, but I never clicked either pics or recording video on my Mido. All I heard was there are bugs with camera on mido custom ROMs.
While recording video its just stuck few seconds/mins later. And one who got omnivision camera, isn't working. Apart from that I've no idea about camera.
Did you try enabling camera2 API? It has anything to do with that? I guess.
I already use many other camera apps, Google Cam, OnePlus cam, Footej, Snapdragon Cam
But, all same.
I will try to enabling camera2 API
Thanks @sachin n

We're looking for something more stock, that works with all camera apps, maybe a mod for the ROM/kernel
Use moto camera it fixes it
I also have this bug, also with the Samsung sensor ofilm_s5k3l8. Sensor does not get set to the proper ISO or brightness or such, it is really bad. As asusm930 wrote, ported Moto G cam fixes this and is a nice camera otherwise as well. And it is the only cam I found so far that fixes it. You can get it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/themes/camera-t3667358
I have samsung sensor but only with OnePlus camera, I haven't this issue. So I use gcam for photos, and Opcamera for video

Do you use the version from here (v 2.0) or some other? https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...-plus-5-camera-port-redmi-note-4-7-0-t3656125
Looks quite good, and seems to give better color reproduction in low light video. Though the photo part is buggy. Flash light is not synchronized with shutter, so it basically does not work and HDR is crossed out for me. Bugger, I would prefer to have one app for both photos and video.
i have same issue

HDR videos lookes washed out in Youtube

Hey anyone facing when playing a hdr video in youtube the color looks washed out
There is no contrast and no accurate colour see screenshot below
I don't think Poco supports HDR video with its "meh" display.
Edit: apparently it should support YouTube HDR playback in 1080p, but I think the screen is not capable of displaying it. I tried some videos and they look washed too.
Same Problem I have

Yup, I have checked for the same and yes colors are washed out tend to be more grey and white side so there is no hdr support in Poco. idk why they still show it in youtube listing like1080pHDR.

yes
this is annoying because if videos are HDR then we cant watch in youtube i didn't find any option to play hdr videos without HDR.
Pause the video in the exact frame, go to display settings, turn off Night/Read Mode and change the Contrast to Increased/Automatic contrast(Warm), reduce the brightness to the viewable range! come back to Youtube, you could see a nice difference in the paused image! shows good dynamic range! but once starts the video, display resets and it starts showing washed out images!! Looks display is ok to display issue in the software to me!
did anyone found how to disable hdr playback in youtube ?

This same video playback on my poco F1 looks like Ur screenshot 1 and def not ugly like the 2nd one.
Unfortunately I am not able to take a screenshot or screenrecord of the same .
The problem is with hdr playback the screenshot comes out black.
Is my display ok cos of the pie based beta 8.11.1 I am using.
Attaching screenshots to explain what is happening with screenshots
Well i played Avengers Infinity war 2160p.10bit.HDR.BluRay.8CH.x265.HEVC (3.69 GB) via both the stock video player and MX player and both rendered colors correctly ?
I can see HDR youtube videos near to the perfection for this screen. The colours are amazing.

I am whit MI 10.2 beta 8.11.1
I found a weird bug. Turn off auto-brightness and increase brightness. Now play an HDR video on youtube. While that washed out video is playing, hower your finger over the light sensor on and off. The screen will try to get dimmer for some reason as if the auto-brightness if on.
I can confirm too. YouTube HDR videos look more on the natural side and a tiny bit washed out. It's definitely doesn't render the more punchy Colors of HDR. Obviously because Poco display is not HDR complaint.
The youtube videos look way better on the web browser than they look on the youtube app.

Well I'm using the global rom but do check the screenshot for the additional details. As for the HDR screenshots, all of them comes out black.
Plays awesome in 8.11.1 beta Android 9 ROM...
Colours look beautiful for me in HDR. When I rotate the screen, it switches back to regular version for a split second and then back to HDR.
Running nitrogen OS on my device.

U mean to say the bottom ones are hdr videos playing on ur phone.
If that is true I certainly don't have such problems.
I have compared YouTube hdr playback on poco with non hdr playback on iPhone 8 plus and mine looked better.
If u can link which videos to download and test i can send screenshots.
the colors looked washed out, because when the phone is at max brightness (which HDR videos turns up the brightness automatically).
there is an option in "display"
"Contrast and colors" select "standard contrast"
pretty sure your issue will be gone, but do note that selecting this option will make your display look yellowish

Question HDR Videos colour banding and grayish overtone. Do you have this issue too?

Hi,
I have Mi 11x Pro (haydnin) stock firmware 12.0.2-12.5.2.
I am having this really annoying colours issue on HDR videos. All HDR videos have really bad color banding in dark areas and the colours appear grayish. The HDR is activated (as I can't change color filters in toolbox) but the videos don't look anything like they should.
I have played side by side with another HDR capable device Asus zenfone 5z and Poco F3 GT (K4O Pro Game enhanced edition). The difference is quite night and day.
Setting the phone in day mode almost fixes the color banding , but the colors are still dull and grayish and the blacks look like I'm using an LCD mobile!
Here see for yourself. A video speaks more than billion words.
If you have this device.
Please set it to night mode.
Set brightness to full.
Play this video on YouTube from 2:30 onwards. (
)
And let me know if you have the ugly color banding and greyish colours as well.
Confirmed the same issue. Seems that Xiaomi has not handled HDR content well

I'm thinking of the incompatibility between Miui and Youtube app when playing HDR content.

I'm not talking about the camera pics/videos.
HDR is terrible in the Mi 11i. It oversharpens and has inconsistent saturation. I'm hoping they'll address that in the MIUI 13 update.
