[SOLVED]Going back from Custom Rom to Stock? - Honor 9 Questions & Answers

Can I actually just download the latest version via eRecovery and let the phone do everything on its own to go back to Stock? Or do I need to go through another procedure? Sorry for this stupid question but I can't find a guide on this particular thing and I'm concerned about bricking my device.
I'm running Resurrection Remix.

Why do I need Stock Recovery and can't stay on TWRP?

In RR's honor thread, it's at least stated that you'll need to flashback stock vendor partition if you want to come back to stock EMUI.
Stock Recovery and stock boot partitions may also be needed to be flashed back.

Thanks for all your relies. I used dload method now end everything went well without any problems. (firmware, then the vendor)

I used the guide and links provided on this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/firmware-huawei-honor-9-stf-l09-stock-t3696892
I copied the dload/update.app into the root of my sd card and then rebooted my phone into dload (volume up + volume down + power). After it finished installing I interrupted the startup and rebooted into recovery where I did a factory reset and wiped cache. Then I removed the update.app from the dload folder, renamed the other .app file into update.app and did the same dload process again.
* Sorry for the bit complicated explanation; I meant copying the folder dload including the update.app into the root of the sd card. So was update.app not directly in the root but in dload folder.

Yes, already successfully updated EMUI 5 to 8 and eventually flashed Project Treble.
It's really working great so far, the only issue is the slow homebutton which I also mentioned in the thread.
Edit - Also, for those who are wondering because of my status bar:
Xposed Beta for Oreo as well as GravityBox [O] are working fine on this Rom.

L22 Marshmallow - System update failed

Hi,
Today i received a notification on my L22 to update to Marshmallow (310).
But when it reboots into recovery (stock), it says system update failed.
Note:
I have rooted my phone and installed custom rom before. But i used to get back to stock (both rom and recovery) with a TWRP restore. This has worked with all the previous updates of Lollipop (e.g. 130 to 150), but its not working with Marshmallow.
Can someone please help!!.
Can someone please help. I hope this is a beta version. Actually I had opted for the beta previously.
there are no restoration files zips for MM yet, alternatively, you can flash TWRP back via adb and restore your back up. else, follow the steps in thread below....good luck!

Thank you @nandakalyan @Arobase40 for the information.
I can check with them. But when i tried to login to their community, for some reason, my login credentials weren't recognized.
As an update, I tried the following
I downloaded the lollipop 150 firmware and flashed the BOOT, RECOVERY, SYSTEM and CUST image files. But I received REMOTE: COMMAND NOT ALLOWED error while flashing CUST. I even tried installing the USB/ADB drivers again. Still no luck.
Then i tried the update. Still the same error.
Again i followed step 1, then relocked the bootloader (successfully). But still got the same error. (Because i read somewhere that it could be due to modified firmware)
Looks like some issue with the package. So i might have to get back to them.
I will post the update once i get the update from them. Thank you very much guys.

That is correct, cust.img can't be flashed through ADB, I have had this issue too.
@mani0608
The only best way is to flash stock recovery, create a dload folder in the root of the sd-card, place the update.app (original firmware file) in it, boot into download mode (power + vol up + vol down) and let the whole factory image be flashed.

Please Help me my device honor 5x kiwi-L21 is bootloop

Hi everyone guys,I'm from Dubai.United Arab Emirates. I'm in trouble.
Maybe i bricked my phone.
I Rooted it, installed TWRP, and then i updated it not with the TWRP.
Since then i have got a bootloop issue, stuck with the Honor logo.
I can access the BOOTLOADER and the stock recovery (i tried to wipe and reset the phone here, but it do all the things and don't solve the problem) and ERecovery (same here i've got an error)
Try to put an update firmware on the MicroSD and make it run but didn't do anything, what can i do
U sure its a bootloop? First boot after update can make about 30 minutes. Anyways Flash stock recovery and try the update with the SDcard.

So to clarify you flashed your stock recovery, put your extracted stock firmware on your external sd card under \dload. Then you entered recovery and installed the local update and it did not work?

can u give me this stock recovery download link
What's the exact model ? KIW-L21C432 ?
You don't need the stock recovery, just plug the charger, then the phone will boot on erecovery (second/alternate recovery)
You need the full ROM though, not an update.
If it's a KIW-L21C432, here is the stock ROMs:
KIW-L21 B140
KIW-L21 B330
unzip the dload folder, put it on you sdcard, then bot with the three buttons pressed.

- Make sure you have a stock recovery
- Unzip the downloaded file
- Remove your sdcard from your phone and plug it into your computer using a sdcard reader.
- Copy the dload folder with the UPDATE.APP file to your sdcard.
- Remove your sdcard properly from your computer and plug it back to your phone.
- make sure you have enough battery, so leave your phone connected to the main power supply.
- Hold Power On+ both Volume buttons at the same time : it could be tricky to pass this process, so you may have to repeat it many times.
- Once done, the update should start !
- Once you get a success message, wait long enough until the process complete.
- You could then search for newer updates.
- Finally, stop using Cyanogenmod if you're a noob.

No storage after installing ROM

Goodafternoon,
I tried to root my Honor 7, but failed, don't know why, was stuck in a bootloop. Then I unfortunately deleted the whole system with TWRP recovery..
Then I downloaded the current ROM from a forum called modaco which seemed to be trustworthy and extracted it with HuaweiUpdateExtractor to then install the data with fastboot. I installed everything like system, boot, data etc. and everything works fine, except for the internal storage. Normally it should have about 13 GBs, but now has less than 3. When I go to Storage in the settings, it tells me I only have 3 GB internal storage in total.
As I don't exactly know how to describe this problem and therefore don't know how to google it, I ask you. If you need some more information let me know.
Would be very kind if anybody could help me or have some advices as I am not a real genius in doing such things.
Thanks!!
Hi,
First of all, is the custom rom deodexed ?
because on stock rom ( emui ) , you juste have to go into recovery, then factory reset, with a Custom, idk
I can only tell you before trying factory reset, make a full backup, then you could try

After manually flashing all the .img files you should perform a force update aka three button update, by putting the same version of UPDATE.APP from which you extracted those .img files.

So you mean, I have to flash the phone with bootloader with the extracted files from update.app and then put it on my SD card and manually update my phone with exactly that update.app file? or am I wrong? I already tried something similar, but couldn't find the option in my honor 7 in the update settings, to manually update (I have put the update.app on my sd card).
I tried to install another ROM (MoDaCo - ROM) with hard resets etc. but didn't solve the problem.
I do exactly have 3.87 GBs of internal storage after flashing the new ROMs or update.app files. I found somebody else with the exact same problem. He solved it by hard resetting his phone with the TWRP recovery, but didn't work for me. In that forum they told him, he has some "ghost ROMs" on his phone, from flashing his phone before.
If you do have any ideas or clues for me, don't hesitate to tell me. And thanks for your help!!

Yes, you have to do exactly that, flash files like cust.img, system.img, recovery.img, userdata.img(DELETES YOUR DATA), boot.img after extracting them using Huawei Extractor tool from UPDATE.APP.
After you do that follow below steps:
Put that UPDATE.APP in dload folder in your External SDCARD.
Switch off your phone.
Press the three button combo (Vol UP + Vol DOWN + Power).
After this your whole device will get flashed with that UPDATE.APP file you put in dload folder.
Try these steps, then tell me if the problem still persisits. I hope this solves it.

To update my firmware in future, I have to download the new update.app and do the 3 button update, right? Or any other way? Are OTA updates no more possible?

@Maxdr13 If you are rooted, then flash manually the img files then do a three button update, but if you are on stock ROM and recovery, just dong three button update by putting UPDATE.APP in dload folder will do.

@Maxdr13 I can't confirm about userdata, as once I did a three button update my data was intact, but some people also reported that data gets wiped, and after the three button update you will get OTAs.

Restoring Stock Rom on KIW-L24 but keeping TWRP

Hi guys,
I am using the link below to perform the restore to stock from CM13 but I think I am not interpreting the questions in this post correctly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/how-to/guide-kiw-l24-to-stock-t3318268
I tried to follow them to get my Honor 5x back to stock rom (while still keeping TWRP) and it was a no go. I kept getting stuck in a boot loop. I was able to immediately reflash CM13 though and get it functionaly. Would someone be kind enough to verify for me as to what steps exactly I need to follow (including ROM names, etc.)? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
@DigiGoon here's a person needing your help
I have a couple questions for you:
1) Before flashing CM13, what stock firmware version were you on? (e.g. b130, b140, b151, b331)
2) Before flashing CM13, did you take a NANDROID backup of your stock setup? Most guides have this step.
Follow these steps, and you'll get your stock ROM back.
Download your phone's latest firmware and extract system.img, boot.img, recovery.img, cust.img from UPDATE.APP using Huawei Update Extractor tool.
Boot into bootloader mode by switching off the phone then pressing only the Vol DOWN button, and connecting it to PC simultaneously.
Flash recovery first, using this command.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Flash all other extracted files similarly firing these commands.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash cust cust.img
fastboot flash system system.img
After doing this put that very UPDATE.APP from which you extracted the files in dload folder of your external SDCARD.
Switch off your phone, and press Vol UP + Vol DOWN + Power button simultaneously.
Your device will now get to the full stock firmware.
Hope this helps you.
@DigiGoon

There is also a full, latest twrp, recovery backup o.o for b331
You restore everything except data, erecovery, and recovery... 1.6 gig download o.o does the job in one fell swoop as long as you have latest twrp.

Extract UPDATE.APP via Huawei Update Extractor tool, pull out relevant img files (system.img, boot.img, recovery.img, recovery2.img(if not in your device), cust.img) flash this one by one via fastboot by booting your device in fastboot mode, fire the given below commands.

fastboot flash <img name w/o extension> <full path to the relevant img file>
After this try the three button method, if it doesn't work then boot into eRecovery then tap "Download Latest Firmware". It will connect to Wi-Fi and will start downloading the latest firmware of your device. After the process gets completed you'll be on stock ROM with your bootloader in "Locked" state.

Bootloader unlock break functions

Hi guys,
I want to flash any of the openkirin roms but when I unlock the bootloader I have no more audio/sound anymore and also I can't make any phone calls.
When making a phone call I starts dialing and it makes connection but the other person on the line can't hear me and after a while my phone gives me an error saying there is no network connection..
After this the dialer stops and the pincode screen comes up and I have to enter my pin again..
I had RROS installed, it was working fine except the volume level was a little low so I started tweaking with default_volume_tables.xml and mixer_volumes_BLANC_ce.xml. I also installed an app called "precise volume" from the play store and directly after this installation the problems started. So after i revert to stock completely..
The phone did a factory reset lowlevel because i relocked the bootloader, after it reboots and everything back to stock all was working fine again.
Then i unlocked the bootloader again and flashed RROS and the problem is there again..
So locking gives me a fully working phone, unlocking breaks functions.
Anyone that can help me with this?

Have you tried re-installing firmware?
You could use TWRP with HuRUpdater.
Factory reset only wipes /data, but all other partitions are kept as they are.
Download TWRP by Pretoriano80: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/development/huawei-mate-10-pro-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769904
And HuRUpdater: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
Easiest way for firmware is Firmware Finder app from Playstore. Search for your cust+build (for example BLA-L29C432B150, make sure you download firmware for your model and cust) and download FullOTA. Firmware is downloaded to /sdcard/TeamMT/FirmwareFinder/<versionnumbers>/
Make a new folder in /sdcard named Update, move update.zip, update_data_full_public.zip and (example, depends on your cust) update_full_BLA-L29_hw_eu.zip from the <versionnumbers> folder to the /sdcard/Update folder.
Rename update_full_BLA-L29_hw_eu.zip to update_all_hw.zip and update_data_full_public.zip to update_data_public.zip.
Place HuRUpdater zip in there as well. Reboot to TWRP and flash HuRUpdater zip and wait for installation to finish.

Have you tried re-installing firmware?
You could use TWRP with HuRUpdater.
Factory reset only wipes /data, but all other partitions are kept as they are.
Download TWRP by Pretoriano80: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/development/huawei-mate-10-pro-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769904
And HuRUpdater: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279

This worked! Thanks big time!!
Just a little off topic question..
As you are also in developing..
Do you know what sound mod is available for my device? Mate 10 pro now running on openkirin rros.
I used Ainur Sauron, i hear a clearer sound but still bt volume is low.
With my mate 9 i had the same problem but with this phone i had v4a working togerher with dolby atmos wich could boost the whole thing.
Any suggestions?
Best regards

V4A relies on drivers, but AFAIK those only work on Nougat for EMUI. :/ and no other sound mod does what v4a does.
As for your earlier problem; sound xmls exist in almost all partitions, and they do the same things. If you edit/break the one it tries to load first it will keep trying to load it when unlocked = broken sound/edited file is loaded.
If you lock bootloader, dm-verity is tripped and it won't load that file at all, but will load it from another partition where is not modified.
