Quick question regarding unlocked variants of snapdragon s8 and note 8 phones. If you purchased a unlocked variant of S8, s8+ or note 8 factory unlocked GSM snapdragon is the bootloader still locked? I am not referring to carrier variants but ones you buy online like amazon or bestbuy that are unlocked GSM variants.

THERE IS NO SNAPDRAGON SAMSUNG THAT HAS A BOOTLOADER UNLOCK PERIOD.
Only unlocked samsung s8 /note 8 etc is the Exynos Variants not Snapdragon so anything that is snapdragon that says unlocked is either a U1 variant device with a locked bootloader or a U variant device that is paid off and carrier unlocked only, and the bootloader is still locked, and will be forever.

Planning on buying an unlocked version from best buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-g5-4...ed-titan/5199400.p?id=bb5199400&skuId=5199400
Will this sucker be bootloader unlocked like the T-Mobile ones I see in the xda articles? I wish to buy a bootloader unlocked one so I may root it.
It's only carrier unlocked, not bootloader
If it just says "unlocked", that usually means carrier unlocked in 99% of cases.
Also, none of them are bootloader unlocked by default.
There are some models that can be bootloader unlocked (H850 EU, and I think one other model), but they aren't bootloader unlocked when you get them.
From the looks of that page that is the unbranded RS-988 lg g5 unlocked US variant.
And it more than likely will not have obtainable bootloader unlock in near future.
For now the only variant with easily available boot loader unlock and root/twrp, is the unbranded EU H-850
If u were willing to spend that much on the device, just order from clove in the UK great 2 day shipping to the west coast for me. Let me knew if u need link.
T-Mobile h830 has been shown to have root, but I don't believe it its widely available yet.
If u plan to use on gsm network,go with EU H-850
i posted this in the s9 forum by mistake. i'm actually looking at a + so i'm reposting here in hopes someone can fill in the blanks.
I'm looking to get an s9+, i know verizon will have theirs locked down
i see an "unlocked" version on amazon
SM-G965U1 is the model
is this just carrier unlocked or boot loader unlocked? can i flash kernel and custom roms with this model? if not, which model that will work with vzw should i get that can do that?
Thanks!!
U1 is just carrier unlocked. You could get exynos if you want to do all that, should be vzw compatible.
The tab S7+ has the switch to oem unlock stock from the factory.
Can the Samsung phones, the unlocked or no carrier/us snapdragon version purchased directly from samsung also be oem bootloader unlocked?
I guess we will have to wait to see on the new S21 devices when they will be delivered to us Unless someone already knows this from a hands-on experience.
I am looking to come back to Samsung, if I do I'll be buying direct from Samsung and will be getting the unlocked version. Has Samsung locked down even there unlocked version from being rooted or is it still just the vendor branded phones that can't be rooted.

Oem unlock (unbranded / free for other providers) is different from bootloader unlock which is needed for flashing custom firmware/recovery, etc. ... usually for rooting.
Exynos variants are in general easier to bootloader unlock and root than snapdragon variants.
I want to buy a Pixel 6, so: which one is the variant that i can root? (G9S9B, GB7N6 or GR1YH). I've heard Verizon variant (i don't know which one is the Verizon one) cannot be rooted.

Hi.
I buy my Pixel(s) from Google.
Global (carrier unlocked) version.
GB7N6 was the P6 version I got.
I am not certain but, I believe..
G9SB9 is the AT&T/Verizon (carrier) locked version.
AT&T version should be able to be carrier unlocked. Not sure about unlocking the bootloader.
The Verizon version can not be unlocked.
GR1YH is the Japan version.
Not sure about carrier/bootloader unlocking.
So I would suggest the GB7N6 version.
Cheers.

You may/can unlock the bootloader of AT&T.
Same as Japan, me with a Japanese Pixel6, you can unlock the phone bootloader.
