so i wanted to shout out a thanks to all the devs.
they have been asked for ETAs, and i wanted to just thank them for their work they have done on the mopho so far and i look forward to what magic tricks they have in the future.
I think they are amazing for the work they do. I would be lost without them, and they are amazing people to take a product, and tweak it to make it an even better product. I truly thank yall everytime i pick up my phone.
I think everyone needs to take a look at how many android phones are out there now and how many users the devs are supporting. its truly amazing when you look at the numbers. Android Rocks!
Thanks again devs!

Yep. And I will second this! THANKS!
Being my first Android phone, and not a junkie, I am looking forward to seeing what can be done with this thing and maybe even digging in a little myself as I check out what our devs do!
I will second that as well.
I just came over to the Photon from an HTC Hero. I picked up the Hero on the first day it came out and would have jumped ship long ago if it had not been for the dedicated hackers who made this phone so great.
My Hero lasted two years because developers spent their time pulling apart and putting together new ROMs. If the vendors supported their products a tenth as well as their developer base does, just imagine the kind of phones we would have. Support your developers with a donation. They deserve it.
+1 hero user here too! My Hero is still in service, handed it down to my mother.

I want to publicly thank all of you here on XDA (and some I know are on sdx as well) for your contribution to the rest of us users who lack the talent and downright genius to do what you do. Although some of us are sharp, and know a little bit, you are the 1% of us who have the ability take that idea and design and morph it into a theme or self operating system.
Thank you again. And thank you for being teachers as well! I have learned more in the past 6 months about computers and electronics and Linux than I have in my life being around them.

I'm pretty much in awe over how much you can learn here in such a short period of time. The raw knowledge that is available here collectively is absolutely amazing.

Thanks cobra. I do it for the love of the game!(that's why I got rid of my donate button) When toast was a little whipper snapper and I was teaching him about thingamabobs, I remember him saying "Chef, thanks! I'm going to make a dope ass build of cm7 for the evo 3d". Off to the dev section toast! And ignore the ahole trolls!
I also want to thank the devs (whether or not most of them were under my wing at one point or another). You ALL make my phone a ton of fun. I've learned a ton of cool stuff from the devs and users here at xda.

I rarely post but I just wanted to agree with the subject of this thread and the posts in it so far. I've learned so much about Android, adb, etc. since I got my first Evo a little over a year ago. Being able to mod and flash our phones is something I'm sure a lot of us, I know I do, take for granted at times, but is something that wouldn't be available to most without the great Devs here. So I just wanted to say Thanks for making my phones better each and every day.

Well said. And ditto with learning so much since my og Evo. The nook color taught me a few tricks also.
Rootyourdroid.net. My nephews blog.
Your post is excellent. Behind the scenes of any mod, rom and theme is began with a idea to make it different and or better. And the developers are volunteers that help all of us out. They contribute knowledge that when applied let's us get s-off, root, better roms, better performing devices. Countless of hours go to any one single item they put out..and in some instances...many man years, all mostly for free. Time spent away from friends, family job, and other obligation in lives. Some are good, some are bad but all deserve a big THANK YOU.
Good post. It brightens up the forums a little bit.
good post man.. it is important that we continue to show love to the community, this place has turned into such crapfest recently.. and its good to see people posting positive material; devs, chefs and themers need to know that we appreciate their work so that they will continue to press on.. its hard to find the passion to make something when everywhere you turn is some douchebag talking crap about what he doesnt even know..
and many thanks to all of the people who have helped me in my time here, to help me accomplish the things that i can do today.. i wouldnt have thought i would be able to do half of the things that i can do now.. back in my heroC days learning about kernels from decad3nce and s0be, rom building from aosp, and themeing from thoughtlesskyle.. and many many others.. thanks a ton, and heres to a better community.. *cheers*
Who is the culprit here? Someone must have said something. Man up and apologize to him immediately. He's one of the best themers/ modders on this site and it will be so sad without him. Please everyone, show your support for this great guy who has been making mods for us since day one. Show some damn appreciation and thank him. Send a donation if you can.

my theory is that it's not an individual or a few but the community. everyone was ranting and raving and showing impatience for his upcoming themes. when the time came to release he was underwhelmed from the thanks/donations afterwards. I could be wrong but that's my guess

Sure, they are optional, but people start getting demanding and the money helps put up with the idiots. I think the enjoyment starts to go away.
I always donate to those whose work I consistently use. But then I also buy apps.
There's a reason why devs want to dev for iphone even though there are more android phones out there. Android users tend to be cheapskates who would rather steal an app than pay for it.
cant blame the community . this one is the same as others. i know someone who was working on bamf rezound in the beginning said hed stop cause of the "community" and he did . we're not THAT bad, but quitting cause of that is kinda lame- though i do understand in away .

Yes you do, thank you!
And yes the second part of that statement tends to be true. Users forget that Dev's are people with real lives and real responsibilities and that Android Dev'ing, for the most, of us is just a hobby like collecting Stamps or baseball cards. They seem to think that because we make cool things we are some giant company with the resources of many when in fact we are only one person trying to bring some fun to your device. But anyways.. You know that already and I am grateful for your support!
I don't know about the iPhone thing though. I couldn't deal with it if I had to. I love Android. Never really liked Apple. Hahaha

honestly, I would still be on wp7 if verizon had one with lte and a bigger screen. Really enjoyed my hd7. Spent more time using my phone. Tinkering with it is fun, but didn't miss it jumping from winmo to wp7. Used to build my own roms back then, but haven't had the time to really dive into what makes android tick.

I was off to a great start on XDA, helped a lot of people, made a mod or two and gathered a decent number of thanks.
Lately though, I've been frustrated and it's showing in my posts.
I'm frustrated because after probably more than 150$ in donations to different people, it seems that developers left one right after the other and that money I gave to encourage development is now used to develop for another phone.
I understand there's no obligation for developers to stick to a phone for ever, everyone wants to play with the new hardware and being a hardware junkie myself, I really can't blame anyone for that.
I gave to Scott because I ran his ROM for quite awhile and it was really stable. Probably because it is stock with the fat trimmed but that met my needs. Later on I hear about all this talk going on about how he's not a real developer and he left.
Then I gave money to bored at least twice, once for his S4 Rom, and once again to help him get a new laptop. Shortly after he vanished for personal reasons. It's probably something big, probably not his fault, bad things happen and sometimes our priorities changes but it seemed that once again I encouraged someone who had to go away.
Lastly, I donated twice to Joel for his S4 ROM and to encourage him to continue developing and we now know what is happening. He doesn't seem to have the time and with the Roms coming out for the GNex and the One X, if I was a developer, I would be all over the new hardware as well.
So those events made me frustrated and I think I managed to p!ss off quite a few people so I'm sorry for that. I tarnished my own reputation because instead of accepting all that, I wanted something for my donations and I got nothing.
I decided to change the way I see things and consider my donations as a contribution to work that was done in the past. I used CleanRom so I donated for that, I used S4 a lot and Bored helped me port his blue theme so that it works with 3.6 Roms, and I donated for that. I didn't really run Joel's ROM a lot because the lack of bluetooth and screen rotation lag was too much for me but still, he put some good stuff together and it was good while it lasted.
So once again, I apologize for anyone I offended or rubbed the wrong way. Donating only to see people vanish got the best of me and I'm paying for it now because of my latest posts.

no hard feelings bro. id feel pretty pissed too if i donated money and it didnt lead to anything. this community, is broken right now. we have about three devs for cdma and 1 gsm left. i want to stay but it seems i cant! im pretty sure im leaving to get a GSM gnex and go to tmobile. its just better for me right now. believe me, THIS IS THE INTERNET!!!! if anyone gets offended, they are p*ssies
I started to think of the fact that the money I donated would have bought me almost a third of a One X at full retail price but developers do release ROMs before getting donations so I'm trying to see it as contribution done in the past, not in the future.
hey man, i'm just as upset as you with the developers leaving. our community really has been shot to hell, and i don't really see it recovering very well, and that sucks. we started off as a small, close, tight-knit community from like weeks before launch date. many of us were familiar faces from the Inc forum, so we were enjoying ourselves. once we got bigger, i guess everything began to get on peoples' nerves: lack of AOSP, RIL, kernel source, ICS not being released, etc etc.
now, we have less than a handful of developers left, as they've all left for the nexus.
hang in there, the source/ update drought cant last forever. If you can make it through the wait, it's inevitable that the combination of the hardware + the price of this phone will bring talent. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of those folks you mention above make their way back here again. Being stuck on 2 year old software isn't really exciting for many devs, but it's where we're at for the time being.
Nice to see that you have a new outlook dude

I like where this thread is going and I agree with the sentiments behind it, hopefully no one will come in here and turn this into a troll-fest.
Personally, I think this is a natural (though unpleasant) thing that's going on. In the forums for my last device, this exact same thing happened - as frustration grew over manufacturer/carrier delays for the next big/promised release and source code, things got bad in the community. It got ugly. Then the release finally came and source finally came and some really good things happened, including CM9. I haven't been back there in a long time so I have no idea what it's like now, but that's the way I left it. I'm hoping once we have source that good things will happen. I believe we'll see some new faces and maybe some old ones.
The one thing that complicates matters in the Rezound forums is the issue of donations (in my opinion). In my old device's forums, a lot of the devs (maybe most) refused to take donations, or at least discouraged donations, and actually it seemed the most talented devs were the ones most likely to discourage/least likely to accept donations. Here, a lot of the devs (most? all?) accept and even encourage donations, in some cases outright asking for them. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, I've donated to at least 3 Rezound devs myself, but there are risks that come along with accepting/encouraging donations. The people who donate then expect certain things, expectations are higher, and if you don't deliver or if you leave before delivering, you have to expect some people are going to take it hard. I'm not saying I agree with that, it's just human nature. There is a fine line between donating to encourage someone and outright paying them for an expected outcome.
I don't think I ever posted anything negative towards any dev, and I've never taken sides in the current "war" that's going on. I must admit there is one thing I really don't get in all this, one thing I really would like to post and ask about because I'm honestly confused by it, but I know 100% it would turn into a troll feeding frenzy, so I'm just going to keep it to myself and hope for better days ahead.
Personally I love this phone (aside from battery life) and think it's still better than a lot of devices coming out now. I'd love to get more into the dev game myself if I could just. find. the. frickin. time...
That was long-winded, I apologize...
I thank you all make good points and I feel the same way also and I'm so tired of all the childish stuff that just keeps going on iv been with most these dev's sense(pun intened) the inc and they all are very talented but really don't blame them for leaving whether it be personal or not.on that note thank you to all the modders themers and devs and anyone that's a helper and not a troll

I don't blame people for wanting to go develop for a newer hardware platform, I would do the same and if I could afford it right now, I would buy a GNEX and let Google feed be with updates.
We still love you.
The development section hasn't had anything good in at least a month.
I don't see the rage about the new S3, or Nexus (plus thought nexus was blocked for US sales??). I'm really enjoying the Resound and am having Zero issues at the moment with it. It would be nice to get some of the new updates rolling quicker with the phone, but the amount of work developers have put into the current roms is amazing. They are all very talented people, and there's no possible way to thank them enough for all they've done. I just do really hope some end up trailing back in our direction and bring/breathe more life into this phone..... Particularly Jellybean.

Let's see VZW/HTC stated this phone officially would have ICS Q1, it is now Q3 and they have yet to deliver. This phone has already passed it's shelf life so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't see the official ICS/source for another month, or two, or three. It sucks but you just gotta face it, this phone is dead. Great phone with a lot of potential, troll community destroys any hope of AOSP or the improvement of current roms.
The thing is, manufacturers have zero motivation to update the software on their phones because they make no money off of that and have to spend money on development.
If not coming up for an update for the Rezound and putting the latest on the One X, they ensure that anyone who wants the latest android will spend money on a new phone.
Yeah we're rooted and we do have the latest, but despite that, I think we all share that itch to get the newer phone with the slightly better CPU and a little bit more RAM.
It's a fact that faster hardware doesn't always make for a faster phone, the quality of the software running on it makes a huge difference as well. I see the same thing on my rezound, sense launcher has never been smoother while 3rd party launchers like Nova, Apex, Go, have never been slower. Open the app drawer, everything is smooth but flip through screens on the desktop and you get that low framerate feel.
I wouldn't consider the GNEX too old to buy but I'll be enjoying my Rezound until the next phone from Google.

Maybe some people need to change their expectations.
I don't donate for future work. Since it's entirely possible that the dev has run into a creative or technical wall, I think it's an unrealistic expectation. But that's just me.
I donate because I appreciate the work the dev has already done. If he takes the donation as an "attaboy" as inspiration for bigger and better things, I consider that a bonus.
Nilsp's ROMs are just about the only ones I've used since I got my Rezound. I appreciate the consistent quality, that he'll answer a question almost anytime of the day or night without snark, and that his ROMs are in a constant state of improvement. I've bought him at least one beer if not two, and if he can get Sense 4 to run properly, I'll buy him a case.
BTW...Nilsp had to be coaxed into accepting donations. Like many of the devs, his satisfaction seems to come in beating the challenges and the simple thanks the users of his product give him. The rest...beer money.
I think another problem with this community is the sense that Verizon has practically orphaned this phone right out of the gate. It was supposed to be a top of the line phone...by technical standards, it's still one of their best phones eight months out of the gate, which is saying something...but they never promoted it, and the dragging of their feet with the ICS update is simply maddening, given that they implied it would be one of the first to get it.
I like this phone. I'm pretty much stuck with it for another year anyway, but I can't see the advantage to jumping at quad cores, especially since few apps can truly take advantage of the extra cores anyhow.

I agree with you, but not completely. You see, I've noticed two ways of inviting for donations.
1. "If you like my work, please consider donating". That I agree with you, a donation is for past work and no expectations should be assumed on either side. You like the current rom and you want to donate, send a few bucks and enjoy the phone. No one ever said there would be a next version.
2. "Let's get 'x' a phone so that he can develop for the Rezound". This is far different than the first one. This, in simple terms, means "If you buy me a phone, I will release something". Maybe just one Rom supported for a little bit, maybe more, but this DOES imply that if the developer gets his/her new phone, that this person will develop something. This is money for future development.
Going with the second method is risky because it does set an expectation to get something back for getting that person a phone. Those expectations are likely to be different between the developer and people who donated. I am convinced that this is why there is so much friction and frustrated people in the Rezound forums. Different people have different expectations and some people are bound to feel like they deserve more.
I learned my lesson though. Next time someone needs the community to help them get a device, I'll politely pass because this concept of donating for future work is at high risk to cause frustrations.

Nobody bought me a phone. I'm not buying someone else one.
I prefer developers who plan to use their phone and their ROMs as daily drivers...because that's how I use my phone. If I'm helping a dev buy a phone, he's only in it for the challenge. Once he thinks he's met that challenge, he's off looking for a new one...while I've still got a year or more to go on my contract. And all of that presumes we're talking about an ethical developer...one that's not using his buddy's phone to do the work and pocketing the donations. ---NOTE---that is not an accusation pointed at anyone, just a hypothetical.
I'm not the government. I don't pay for future development....because more times than not, it doesn't work out to be much of a bargain for the taxpayer.

Huh?
Nils has been releasing GREAT stuff. Why do folks ignore this super-talented dev?

yeah, nils is the man. made some badass roms on the Inc, and continues to do so on the rezound.
It's so frustrating that XDA doesn't have an official forum for the LG L70. It should show up as a searchable device. It's such a great phone and I think it's pretty popular, since it's so cheap and performs so well. Maybe if we all thumbs up this post, then we can get it done. Reply with any feelings you may have about this below too.
I agree. I bought an L70 recently for my girlfriend after virtually no research (she needed a replacement phone quickly) and I was pleasantly surprised as to how good it was for the price. I was expecting Jellybean but it has Kitkat. I also didn't expect little things like the LG knock on/off to be there, which makes it even easier to use when switching from my G3. Previously I had to put my brain into "Samsung mode" when using her phone.
The only thing I don't really like is the hardware home button, which looks like it was installed to try converting some iPhone/Galaxy users over to LG. This tactic might work with some people, but it almost made me look for another phone altogether. I'm glad I didn't though, the pros of the phone far outweigh the con (for me) of the hardware home button.
I think this phone is a little gem, and I'm more than a little surprised there was no XDA forum for it. I think it's not so much that the phone itself isn't good enough, but rather not enough people know it exists.
It all comes down to people developing for it and I'll be honest most developers only grab flagship devices. So if you want development for it then the users will have to dig in and make it happen.

I see Zelendel. That's too bad. I noticed "androidforums.com/forums/lg-l70.2610/" has one, but I didn't really want to have to leave XDA.

There is a big difference. That is a user forum and we are a developer forum. We focus more on developers then users.

This one looks like a better link. At least it has some development threads in there(like for Cyanogenmod, etc.) and I was just able to unlock the bootloader and install CWM through some of the other threads there too.
