I have a few questions regarding ROM porting
1)If my phone has android 4.4.2 stock rom and i want to port android 5.1.1 for it...is it possible, beacause i have heard that is not possible to port a lower version to a higher version or viceversa
2)if i have a working CM based rom (version 5.1.1) can i port a 6.0 version of android based from that rom?
It is first time when i try to port roms so i am just curious
hello all
i have run into some issues with the current available custom roms and was looking at creating my own and just wanted to know how if possible you would increase the android version from 4.2.2 (official firmware cap) to say at least 4.4 kitkat or even further to something like marshmallow.
any help would be much appreciated
Hello,
My problem is, that i can't find any custom roms with android 5.0.0 or higher for my j100fn (j1 lte).
The reason, why i want this is, that the stock rom sucks and there are some apps, which require android 5.0 or later
Hello,
Yes, I know this phone is old and I'm hoping someone will help me but I have a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 and the battery is about to go bad and I also broke me MicroUSB port so I have to wirelessly charge it. I want to go back to my Samsung Galaxy S4 which it's on Android 5.0.1.
Before I got this Samsung Galaxy S4 had the same phone but I broke the LCD when I went to replace the screen which it ran Android 4.4.4, it was rooted, and had the SafeStrap custom recovery on it. This Samsung Galaxy S4 is on Android 5.0.1 and I saw a custom ROM that can make the phone run on Android 7.1 or Oreo so I want to do that to get the phone almost up-to-date close to my Motorola Droid Turbo 2.
I rooted using Kingroot so the first question is how to make SuperSU the main root permission.
I tried to use TWRP but it mess the stock recovery up so now it goes to Odin mode, the second question is how can I get a custom recovery to unlock the bootloader.
Lastly, what is the best ROM, I see the CM is nothing anymore and I saw a ROM called "LineageOS 14.1" which run Android 7.1.1, so the ROM I like to see haves at least Android 6 or newer and if there isn't any then what is the best Android 5.0 ROM.
--Here is the Phone info---
Model number: SCH-I545
Android version: Android 5.0.1
Baseband version: I545VRSGPL1
Kernel version 3.40
Build number: LRX22C.I545VRSGPL1
Keep in mind I'm little rust on rooting and custom ROM. I haven't done a custom ROM since the Droid 1 days. Please make it noob friendly as possible. I'm using a Linux OS right now but if I need a Windows OS I got one.
Thank you!

You're stuck on 5.0.1. forget about upgrading past 5.0.1. not going to happen. Ever.

Only the MDK bootloader can boot ROMS based on Android 6, 7, 8, etc. Once you've updated past MDK, you can't go back.
I'm very new to android development, so pardon any noob like things.
I want to update the version of android of some custom rom, could I do that by cloning aosp of that newer version and then merging the custom rom(old version) with the newer aosp.
If this is not possible is there any method that can be used to upgrade the android version
